Had a wonderful little tea party at Vintage Tea & Cake! I haven't had Afternoon tea in the states before, only abroad so it was fun to try it here. It was done well! I had a dietary restriction (gluten free) and we let them know a week in advanced. I tried calling them 4 days in advanced to make sure, no answer. Emailed 2 days just in case and there was also no answer. That was a bit disappointing. When ordering, they did not have prepared GF items and I had to change picked foods. Even with a week in advanced, little sad. The servers didn't know much about celiac and wanted to put everything on one plate, but I let them know we couldn't. The savory items were good and the sweets were alright, menu did not match online menu. Which is okay! Besides those issues, we really did have a fun time. You can never go wrong with tea and a friend! I would come back again in the spring and call again further than a week in advance or try a different location!

I was so excited to find out that vintage had opened a location in Arlington down the street from my house! My friends and I went this weekend and had so much fun dressing up for this experience. My friend made the reservations which required a credit card to hold our seats. If we ended up missing our seating, she would have been charged $30 per person. This definitely helps to weed out those who are not serious about afternoon tea! When we arrived, we were shown to our table immediately which had been set for us before we arrived. We were given two menus, one of which tea options, and the other, which informed us about the food selections for the day. We were able to choose from the standard carnivore menu and a vegetarian alternative . One of my friends is gluten-free and they were able to accommodate this as she had contacted them earlier when making the reservations initially. The space is in a store front on Mass Ave (I think it's the former Mamadous bakery) and is simple yet tastefully decorated. I love the shelves with British tchotchkes on them. We all loved the sandwiches and sweets. It was quite filling and I had even skipped lunch. There were several other parties all of whom were celebrating birthdays. The staff brought cake with a candle and sang to each table except the one that requested a quiet celebration. Definitely a nice place for a birthday meal!

    Our tea sandwiches and deserts!

I went here for a private event and it was wonderful! The china and miss-matched plates and cups were adorable, the tea and snacks were beautiful and delicious, and the service was excellent. It was a smidge pricey as all tea places are, but excellent as a treat and a lot of fun!

Ok, but a little disappointing. It must be difficult running a business like this and building a…read morefollowing. I got inspired by watching youtube to make a jambon buerre sandwich - supposedly a popular quick sandwich for Parisians. The sandwich is half a baguette with butter and French bistro ham. I tried searching all over for the French bistro ham with no luck. The only options were online sources with expensive shipping and/or expensive minimum order sizes. Somehow I stumbled upon MA-France nearby in Arlington and they sell jambon-buerre sandwiches. It's a small shop that sells sandwiches, pastries, and a small offering of French food products. Lots of pastries and baked goods like quiche, tarts, cookies, croissants, etc. The cheese offerings were very limited and basic. I can imagine that the cheeses that they sell are the same types and brands that they use for making sandwiches. For example, they sell President brand Brie - that you can also buy at Costco and market basket. Disappointing, but understandable because they can't afford to buy more variety and more expensive offerings without a big enough client base to buy those cheeses before they go bad. Getting back to the sandwich - it was half a baguette with some thick slices of butter and two pieces of French bistro ham. The bread was kind of dense and the crust was more chewy than crispy. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to spread the butter, but if they're not selling enough sandwiches then they're probably keeping the butter in the refrigerator - making it too difficult to spread. When I got home I fixed up the sandwich to my liking. Overall, the sandwich was okay, but not good enough to make me want to go back. At least I was able to solve my hunger for the jambon buerre sandwich.

Now it's quite underwhelming. The apricot croissant is now some smaller glorified danish that has no richness or personality. The plain croissant is quite "bready" now, whereas it used to be light and buttery. I have a sneaking suspicion that they have a different croissant supplier now. What saved this spot from a lower grade is that the pain au raisin and chausson aux pommes are passable. Also a save is that they still offer various French products, from soaps to cheeses to canned goods. I have to find a new French bakery in the area.

Went for Mother's Day 2026 and could not have been more disappointed. We made a reservation for 2pm…read moreand by 2:50 had still only received water. When our tea came we did not even have napkins or spoons to stir the tea; the place had only one server for a holiday and everyone in the restaurant was waiting an extremely long time. Why wouldn't you have more servers at a tea house on Mother's Day? I wound up getting up from our table to get our spoons, knives, and napkins from a stand I saw because we weren't being paid attention to. The food itself was pretty measly. Would never ever return. Very bad experience.

I heavily regret to say this was the worst experience ever in Tea Service!…read more We arrived here promptly at 10:00 AM as it was the only availability for Mother's Day. Firstly, I wasn't entirely thrilled about the tacky decor with peeling wallpaper. I understand they were trying to be vintage and eclectic, but it looked very cheesy to me as mismatched, teapots and plates and cups was displayed for a yard sale. On top of it they had very dirty filmy water glasses on the table which is very interesting considering we're there for tea. Why on earth would you have bottled water in Tea service? I requested another glass so our server literally picked the other glass from another table which was equally if not more filmy. Here's the most annoying part. We were there on time at 10 o'clock and there were two other parties that came literally 5 to 10 minutes after we were seated. What I don't understand is these two other parties had their tea and tea plates first and we are literally sitting there with the tea we ordered without anything to eat. Our server seemed to be overwhelmed, unnecessarily considering it wasn't crazy busy with a line out the door on the contrary, there were a couple of empty tables. There was no real reason for us to wait for our food. We waited for a good 20 minutes. We did not complain at all, but our server knew that we weren't happy based on my husband's very hungry expression and my silence. She however, apologized voluntarily about the wait and said "Sorry for the wait ...as you can see we're quite overwhelmed". When our tea tower finally came, it looked fine except we were missing the two scones. She never checked up on us and when we flagged her down regarding our missing scones. She comes back with the two ugliest scones ever one tiny one and one larger one. I was trying to not think that this was a personal vendetta. If this person was properly trained, they would know that if we're waiting, you should put two extra stones to make up for the horrible experience.. now honestly she was an older woman (who am I kidding? We're probably same age) so I felt very bad for her for some reason. There was no reason for any issues honestly, how hard is it for anyone to plate pastries and tea sandwiches on a plate??? it shouldn't take long. I have gone to many Tea services in Boston ( like The Courtyard) and even the Vintage Tea House in Lexington, which I believe might be the same company. So what happened? Different ownership? The restroom is equally bad and this entire place needs a serious upgrade. We left without any acknowledgment or goodbyes, which also confirmed the lack of warmth here. I want to be clear that it is not my best interest to put down any small businesses. On the contrary I am a big promoter of smaller businesses. But unfortunately, I know my teaware, Teas, bites, and proper service. This establishment could be top notch. If you look like looking for an upscale experience where you can have bridal showers or any celebratory occasions I would recommend other places. If you are more casual, then this place would be more appropriate. I think I overdressed for the occasion.
