Perfect place for our Galantine celebration with my long time girlfriends (and one gf's daughter). Food and drinks: They had an amazing selection of gluten free finger sandwiches and sweets for me; so grateful for the vast selection...I did not feel like I was under served with my amazing selection. Pesto sandwich was my favorite...delicious!!! There was a Chocolate truffle that melts in your mouth. Every item was soooo good! They had a special selection for the eight year old with yummy sandwiches, heart candy and non-caffeinated chocolates. The tea selections were amazingly delicious and the teacups and tea mugs were fancy. We also had Bellinis!! (Of course) Service: the two servers were very sweet and attentive to our needs. The full afternoon tea service with the set menu and your choice of tea for 2 hours was $30. They have vegetarian options as well as non-caffeinated tea options to choose from. The vibe is more cute with different decorated tea sets and furniture styles mixed together. A nice place to spend time with friends or have a mother/daughter date. As for the food, the sandwiches were a little on the salty side, but still had the classic, typical variety. The sweets were very balanced, not too sweet. So adorable, I've never gone to a place to do an afternoon tea before, and enjoyed the experience. The space is basically one room though, so it can get a bit noisy with people chatting and servers shuffling tables around. The prefix menu includes a full pot of tea for each person, tea sandwiches and sweets for only $30. Compared to other tea services, this is a pretty reasonable price! Their prefix menu does change, but they offer bother standard and a vegetarian options. Vintage Tea has a couple of other locations that I'm curious to try out, since the atmosphere seems different at each location. The vibe and decorations of the place were great, definitely enjoyed the vintage feel. Just wish service were a little better as this was our first time, when we went in, there was no indication of what to do and we had to seek out a waitress in order to ask despite having reservations. The tea quality was not great, opening the pots revealed a singular teabag per pot for the sencha (watered down) and Buckingham palace, which we had actually ordered the Garden Party (and sencha). Since the waitress never came back, we never got the chance to swap it. My mother is definitely a tea connoisseur and it's sad to see a tea place skimping on tea quality. The little snacks were good and I enjoyed most of them, received a mint white chocolate which upon asking the waitress, she revealed we received because they ran out of milk chocolate. Just felt like a lot of the items pastry wise were not fresh/from somewhere else which is fine but nothing to write home about. This place felt very presentational over actual quality of items. Such a lovely spot. My husband and I love a good tea, so I surprised him with a visit here as we both had the day off. The space is bright, clean, and definitely has a vintage feel. Tables have mismatched chairs, there are lace table clothes, the vibes were spot on. We made a reservation which I would recommend. There were only two severs taking care of the entire room ( at least 10 tables were sat) and those ladies were definitely hustling but were still incredibly friendly. The menu is obviously straightforward, includes finger sandwiches and sweets. There are veggie substitutions and they are allergy friendly and allowed me to sub a finger sandwich I was allergic to. There is a solid tea menu, and I really loved all of the mismatched pots and china. You can also order a glass of prosecco here (my favorite) and there were seasonal flavors which was a nice touch. The finger sandwiches were solid, but not incredible. The high points were the service and atmosphere for sure. Not the best tea service food I've had, but I will be back just for the ambiance. Super cute tea room, and very cozy too! It's a very quaint. We have vintage tea cups and tea pots that were not matched, but they were original and very beautiful. They also presented our traditional tea sandwiches and scones tastefully. All were yummy. Loved my Rooibos tea. The location is in a suburban neighborhood setting. It's not pretentious or overly formal but if you wanna have a nice afternoon tea with friends, this is a really great option. $30 is very reasonable per person. My friend and I visited the tea room today and were very, very disappointed. I had been there a few years back and raved about it to friends encouraging them to go. Not this time. First, we both ordered the traditional array of patisseries and finger sandwiches, and when they arrived it looked like it was for one person. The plates were sparsely covered. Next, some of the finger sandwiches didn't look fresh and the bread didn't seem fresh. The clotted cream for the scones was in a tiny one and one half inch wide container that wasn't even half filled. I asked our waitress to please fill it. The scones were blah and maybe two bites each. Difficult to understand how they continue to attract a crowd. Planning to attend a tea room with a friend is special, but Vintage Tea and Cake missed the mark. While the ambience was an A+, a tea room needs more to make it a special experience. read more

Came with 4 sandwich pieces, 3 pastries, and 2 desserts, so 9 pieces total, plus a very large pot of tea each. I thought the pastries were good but the sandwich portions were pretty small. The Tall Man and I went to Vintage Tea for our anniversary. It was our first time there, and I was excited to try an affordable afternoon tea in the near suburbs that could accommodate my dietary restrictions (gluten and dairy intolerances). The service and interactions with the owner made this place a gem, while the food options are more expansive elsewhere. The tea room is in a light filled dining room on the first floor of a renovated house. It's cozy and feels more intimate and casual than other tea places downtown. On a Friday afternoon it was about half full with a quiet chatter. The owner is lovely and conscientious. Making reservations was pretty easy. We emailed back and forth to clarify my dietary restrictions, and I very much appreciated her responsiveness. It was great to meet her in person as well. The tea selection was pretty good. We got some classic black teas (Scottish and Irish breakfast/afternoon) that paired well with milk. We each received full pots and got extra hot water, too. Love that they brought me oatmilk! Since I had noted that cross contamination isn't an issue for me, my food was served alongside the Tall Man's gluten-filled items (but let them know if you need things separated). We each had 1.5 tiers of food on the stand, but not the same amount: I was given three sandwiches while he was given four, and I had four different sweets while he had five. I understand that they aren't able to make GF/DF versions of each item (very time consuming!), but I would have appreciated the same amount of food even if there were duplicates. I'll first say that the regular menu items were all quite good. The Tall Man enjoyed them thoroughly (I can't remember all the varieties) and was able to ask for seconds of his favorite items. My sandwiches were decent (cucumber and vegan cream cheese; fig jam and vegan cheese; and hummus). The sweets were fine but not too memorable. They were mostly various cookies (linzer, ginger, and another) that could have been store bought. There was also a chocolate cake that was rather dense and would have benefited from cream or frosting. The server apologized that they didn't have a scone for me, but I wasn't surprised since scones are rarely available GF/DF. All in all, we had a good experience, mostly due to the service. If you had a group without dietary restrictions, I would very much recommend coming here, especially to support a local business. It was like stepping into Bridgerton! The decor is exquisite and beautiful with tapestries on the walls, even the tea sets are like delicate pieces of art. A beautiful airy sun filled room. The menu is set with a vegetarian option. Only downside is you are allowed to choose only one tea flavor which I found odd since there are so many to choose from I would have loved to try multiple selections and pay for it if it was available. There is also a bubbly drink menu. The food was mostly chocolates and sweet treats but very tasty and fun to try. The entrance is a bit hidden but parking is free on Sundays. We saw multiple families come in while we were there and overall peaceful atmosphere and not loud at all when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon. My issue with some other high tea places is that the tea sandwiches are too salty and/or stale and the sweets are too sweet and/or basic (not fancy or special enough). They give you a big pot of tea which is nice. When I went on a Friday the place was full. Like other reviewers have said this place is LOUD when there are a lot of patrons. I definitely had a hard time hearing my friend. Decor was fine. Nothing special. I didn't like how close we were to other tables. It felt like they tried to squeeze in as many tables as they could. The room is very lovely and the service was good. The sandwiches and savories were very good. The price is extremely reasonable. I have never been to tea anywhere is the US, UK or Ireland where there wasn't a full size scone - the mini one we had was wonderful, but the scone is the highlight of tea. I think if you are going to offer a mini scone, maybe offer two in different flavors. The sweets were not great in my opinion - the quality was clearly excellent but the choices didn't excite us. The Madeline was excellent. We all thought the banana tart was ok but when you're not a banana fan as many people are not it's not so great. Lemon squares are one of those things you either like or don't (1 of 4 of us like them) so while I thought it was very good, nobody else in the party ate them. My suggestion based on the other high teas I have been to would be to stick with tried and true basics. I don't know if they change the menu but I would definitely return if they did. read more

Tea with The Madre! This time we tried Vintage Tea & Cake Company in Lexington. The pics aren't great due to the sun shining through the window... but they're ok. The room is nice, but when it was filled up it was very loud. It's possible it was due to a large group of women that came in shrieking. But I imagine it tends to be on the loud side. I really couldn't hear my mom speaking through the whole thing. I love all of the mixed china cups & plates. I didn't see any clunky ceramics, so that was nice. But, they used paper napkins... cheap thin cocktail napkins were set at our table. I would have really appreciated a nice cloth napkin. The paper really didn't match the vibe and was really off-putting. They had a decent tea selection and it was unlimited, so that was nice. I got Oolong and my mom got a black tea blend, but I can't recall the name. Sandwiches I usually love a cucumber sandwich, but this was not one of my favorites. It was a bit on the dry side. I think there might have been a bit of butter in addition to the herby cream cheese, but not enough to moisten it up. Brie, Arugula & Fig sandwich was very tasty! A bit more filling would have been nice, but I enjoyed this one. I think it was my favorite. Chicken Salad... basic chicken salad, soft bread, I'd happily eat a normal-sized one of these for lunch. Caprese... this was also very good. Nice bread, with a light spread of basil pesto, sprinkled with little mozzarella balls & grape tomato halves, and topped with a balsamic drizzle. Definitely very tasty! These would be an awesome party appetizer. Next on to the scone level! I loved this little blueberry scone. I think I only had one blueberry in mine, but the scone was great!! Not dry, very flavorful, I would happily enjoy larger ones at home if they were sold here! The clotted cream and strawberry jam were perfect toppings. They also served macarons. Everyone serves them these days. I don't get the appeal. I also don't think I know anyone who enjoys them. I ate it. As far as macarons go, I'd say this is a valid one if you're into them. Reading this out loud before posting, I discovered that my brother-in-law LOVES macarons! I would have brought one home for him if I had known! Lemon bars... Yum! This was a tangy, sweet delicious lemon bar! Yum! And the dessert level! Yay! No chocolate! This is definitely a plus for my mom and me since we don't care for chocolate. Pumpkin Pie Bite... I'm not sure what the little cup was made of, but it tastily contained the creamy, lightly spicy pumpkin pie filling. Yum! This was really good. Fruit Tart... This was delicious, nice little crust, filled with creamy custard topped with fresh fruit. So.Much.Yum.! All in all, this could have been nicer. The atmosphere was lovely and the table setting was reminiscent of a true English table, little silver milk jugs, cubed sugar with tongs and sweet English bone China cups and saucers. Location is one of the side streets in downtown Lexington with metered parking around the streets. Agree with other reviews that the room is a little noisy, which I didn't mind since it was filled with a few groups with young children. Perhaps they need to have more ambient music playing? The room was lovely and bright, especially considering we went on a cloudy rainy day. My kid soaked in the experience and even enjoyed having her own pot of tea where she could stir in her sugar and milk. I thought ours came out relatively quick as we made only one small adjustment(she wanted only peanut butter instead of a pb and jelly). Made a reservation for high tea for my husband's birthday. I really enjoyed this place. I had been to a spot in NH shortly after Christmas, and I did enjoy this more. They gave a full, large tea pot with whatever tea you wanted to have. The food was good and I liked that there was an option for vegetarian (I do eat some meats, but this worked out better for me in the long run). The little finger sandwiches were delicious. I also liked the ambience. It was like having a nice tea party. It was a small place for sure, but worth it. Although a very nice setting and a historical town, my family and I went there for a birthday tea celebration and were disappointed to say the least. I thought I had told them to help us with the birthday and for a nice table but that did not happen. They put us at the worst table by the corner near the entry for the kitchen, which was crammed next to a 12 top for a bigger, celebration trumping ours. On top of that the incredibly small portions were almost a joke. I mean micro-size portions, and I had to order extra just to get something in our stomach. The hostess was great and very friendly, the tea and all our food options from start to finish was wonderful. High tea is one of my favorite indulgences and a great way to spend an afternoon with friends. There's lots to love about the high tea here-- cute individual teapots and cups, decor, street parking, a feast of scones, sandwiches, macaroons etc. They have GF upon request (but note they do sometimes run out so worth double checking ahead of your visit). Seatings are timed and should be reserved. Service is good, and fast so you do have enough time before you need to leave. There are a couple things to note though-- the treats were very sweet. Very. If the treats are all still at the same level of sweetness, I strongly recommend being picky. I was in a large party to be sure but it was just too loud. The dining room is one big open area and everyone's conversation just bounces all over the place. If you prefer a more quiet experience, avoid busy weekends. read more

I go to a lot of afternoon teas, it's my just my thing. I have been to afternoon tea at the Plaza in New York, in Boston and in Salem, MA, in Newport, RI and many other places around the US and a few in Europe too. It's a general rule of thumb that Americans don't know how to brew tea. What you usually get a light brown lukewarm water that tastes like boiled socks. I must say, The Vintage Tea and Cake room actually KNOWS how to brew tea. It was the right temperature and strength and it was very good. Their scones were clearly home made and excellent plus they use a real clotted cream. The pastries were amazing too. Plus the space is very cute, they are using beautiful china and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. 10/10 experience and that's coming from someone who is extremely critical when it comes to tea I will be back. read more

Pros: We made a reservation for 11 am and were able to be seated promptly upon arrival. The mismatched but beautiful tableware was a nice touch. They were able to accommodate all of our food restrictions (dairy free, nut free, gluten free). The food items on the regular menu were all delicious. Cons: Despite being seated at 11 am, we did not get our food until a little after noon. Considering the menu is so limited (you basically either choose regular or vegetarian) and the limited seating times, I would have expected the food to be ready much earlier. In fact, it took so long for the tea menu, tea, and then the food menu to arrive that we told the waitress we wanted to order before she left after giving us the food menu. I can only imagine how much longer it would have taken to get our food if we hadn't done that. The noise level in the room was quite loud so when the waitress was speaking to us, she had to bend down and was basically talk less than a foot away from our faces without a mask on, which I found very disconcerting. I would have put my mask back on, except it was in my purse, which was not near me since there was nowhere to place it (the backs of the chairs were rounded so I couldn't hang it there and there wasn't enough room on the table to place it there). Some purse hooks for the table or on the wall, or a special stool or hamper for purses would have been a nice touch. I ordered the chai tea, which never got strong enough to be more than a light tan, and I had to ask for the milk to be brought to the table. I would have expected the milk to be brought out when the teas were brought. I'm grateful that I was able to eat from the regular menu because I would have been disappointed with the items that were brought out for my friends with food restrictions. I don't remember those items being explained when they were brought out either (and they were not listed on the menu). Overall, this is a cute place for afternoon tea for people without food restrictions and aren't expecting to be served quickly, but the price point is higher than expected for the amount of food and the service. Very disappointing. My second visit and while the food was good and elegantly presented the noise level in the room was overpowering that conversation for just two people was almost impossible. Noise was a problem when I visited in June also. Today we had a 1pm booking but the food did not arrive for at least 45 minutes so the kitchen staff must have been stressed because the menu had only 2 choices - vegetarian or finger sandwiches, so it should have all been ready to serve. I assume the sweet scones and little pastries were the same on every table so no surprise for the kitchen staff there. Noise really did spoil the experience as conversation had to be limited that it accentuated the wait for the food. The tea arrived fairly quickly but we had to ask for milk and there was no low fat (whole milk is too much for a good tea for many tastes and a tearoom should really know this basic.) Once the food arrived the noise level did decrease a little as people started eating. Maybe staggering bookings so that everyone does not arrive at the same time might improve the noise and the reasonable timing of food arriving at the tables. The food was tasty, especially the brie, fig jam, and arugula sandwich. The tea was really good. I had English Breakfast, husband had Darjeeling. Our server was sweet. We didn't feel rushed at all. We had a wonderful time, the service was excellent and the staff were very caring. While I'm sorry I had to post the original review, I did get a reply thanking me for pointing out the problems.
