My attorney referred me to you, and you agreed to assess the condition of my hand and foot for a lawsuit against a company. It gave me hope after 3 years of the pandemic putting my justice on hold. As we began our appointment, I explained right away how severely I am affected by PTSD and dissociative disorder. You asked me how my hand got injured. I told you that my hand was run over by a truck. Your tone was snotty, and you mocked me saying, "So...what, you were just laying on a road..." That really hurt, but I kept my composure and explained that I was riding my bike and a truck cut me off and my hand and foot were run over (and almost my face). You looked at my twisted dominant hand saying Invalidating things like, "well, you can open a jar, right?" and,"You can still use it, right...?" This is when you saw the hurt and hopelessness in my eyes. You were looking right at my very expressive eyes as they welled up with tears. We sat face to face at a maximum 4 feet from each other, so don't say you didn't notice. You were persistent and cold. I wondered how I may have wronged you, to be treated like this by you. You continued to interrupt me when I spoke, rudely making up your own narratives instead of just listening to me. You asked me what I hoped to get out of this appointment. I answered that I was just there because my attorney had sent me to assess the condition of my hand and foot. I kept calm as you did not accept my answer, asking again. I told you I needed a moment. I had a mask on, so you could only see my eyes welling up with tears. I was trying so hard not to cry, but as your voice kept becoming more and more assertive and your volume got higher, I felt bullied. I was literally too choked up to answer and could not speak and tried to make hand gestures to ask for a moment. Instead of acknowledging the tears that were just about to spill out, or responding with any kindness, you yelled at me, "So... YOU'RE JUST NOT GOING TO GIVE ME AN ANSWER?!" I hope you remember badgering me until I broke down in tears. I forced out the words, "It's really hard to answer you when I'm so choked up because you are being so mean to me." How you could remain so cold at this point is incomprehensible. I am a kind person who rarely loses my cool, but I could take no more. Your cruelty triggered a PTSD episode so severe that I stood up, defensively yelling how absolutely inappropriate you were being and gathered my things up to leave. While I had my back turned to get my backpack, I heard you mutter "I'm sorry." but it was only words because when I turned around to look, you were void and it was completely apparent that you did not mean your apology. I left and saw your colleagues with their jaws dropped as I stopped to tell them all how completely inappropriate you were. As I left your office, I had a complete breakdown and called a friend who picked me up outside the office. She said I was in a fetal position on the cement, hiding behind my bike. You made a horribly traumatic situation even worse. My experience with you was awful and surreal. I have trouble comprehending why you were so disrespectful, mocking, cold, and mean to me. Kindness. A few reasons why they were so amazing: I was worried and uncomfortable going into my consultation, but those feelings were quickly waived as I felt immediately comfortable with Dr. Cober. I didn't feel judged whatsoever. I felt I was in the right place, with a doctor that had very capable hands. It was recommended that I get a mammogram before my breast reduction. Not required, but recommended. This mammogram resulted in abnormal cells that had to be removed. Dr. Cober was incredibly supportive and referred me to an excellent oncologist, Dr. De Melena, who was able to work hand in hand with Dr. Cober. Without skipping a beat, he pivoted and had Dr. De Melena piggyback my original surgery to remove the bad cells at the same time, minimizing the need for additional worry, panic, planning, or surgery.. This was, without a doubt, life saving. Dr. Cober and his team held my hand through the entire process, and were responsive when questions arose. I sent the team a message on Christmas, and it was Dr. Cober himself who responded. That is above and beyond excellent service. The results of my mommy-overhaul were better than I could have ever imagined. I am no longer in chronic pain, I have healthy breasts, and my abdominal muscles work appropriately. In October of 2023 I went in for a routine mammo and my primary doctor found that I had chronic bilateral silicone implant rupture with silicone in my lymph nodes. I had been experiencing chronic fatigue, hair loss and joint pain. In other words, Breast Implant Illness. I was told by my primary that I should try to get them removed promptly. So I started looking for a surgeon. I instantly wanted to go back to doctor Mia Skourtis who had put my implants in 10 years prior because I loved her and she did a great job on my surgery. However, she was not available for several more months. I started searching for the next best thing and came across Dr. John S. Lee in Portland Oregon. His website and reviews seemed great over all and the consultation went good with friendly staff. I thought I had made a great decision. His office told me that they did not take insurance but that if I payed upfront they would help me by giving me a discount and the insurance codes to file my claim myself. So I went for it and had surgery in November of 2023. A few days after surgery I came back to the office to take off the bandages for the first time. I sobbed. Dr Lee was not even there and it was just me, my husband and a nurse. I had implant removal with a lift and did not want implants back in but was looking for just more of a healthy and a natural look. Dr. Lee removed the implants, capsulectomy and did a lift but he left my right breast nonexistent. Both breasts are super small because I was small before and then you add a lift and you will lose a half cup size or so. But the right side is completely flat. So as I said, I sobbed that day and the nurse told me to give it time and they will "fluff". It has been two years at least the one has never fluffed. After that visit I walked out feeling sad but hopeful. In the meantime I continued on trying to file the insurance claim. This is where everything else fell apart. It took me almost 7 months to finally get a resolve. After trying to file the claim dozens of times all while trying to heal emotionally and physically, nothing was working for me to get my money back through insurance and his office became so rude to me. I made dozens of phone calls, countless hours on hold with insurance and one day I was told that he was actually "in my network" and that he should have never taken my money but that by law he was supposed to follow his binding contract and work through insurance. At that point I felt so taken advantage of and neglected as a patient. His receptionist Gina was so rude to me. I have all of the emails, results, screenshots from my medical claims, etc. After almost 7 months the final day came that I threatened their office with a lawyer because I was tired and upset. She finally reimbursed me the money owed back to me that they should not have taken. Since then I can see they went through my insurance as they should have done and got their money through the binding contract they had. Besides all of this I have ongoing pain in my right breast and have had to see so many doctors, trying to get resolve on my pain. Dr. Lee has never personally reached out to me and the lack of patient care on his part has left me with no help from the doctor that operated on my body. I would not recommend. My advice, do your own research and talk with insurance. If a doctor is in your network they have a legal binding contract wit the insurance company. It doesn't mean they have to operate on you but if they do then they have to bill insurance. Also, talk very clearly about expected results and what they can do if it is not ok.

A Cautionary Story -- What I Wish I'd Known Before My Breast Augmentation…read more In 2022, I finally decided to get my breast augmentation -- something I had dreamed about for years. I did my research carefully and chose this clinic because the surgeon promoted a "unique technique" that supposedly eliminates the need for a post-surgical compression bra during recovery. That promise was a huge part of why I trusted him with my body. At first, everything seemed fine. But once the swelling settled and I began to really look at my results, I noticed something was off. My left breast had shifted far to the side -- so much that when I lie flat, it literally slides toward the outer edge of my body. Standing up without a bra, my breasts sit noticeably wide apart. When I put on a bra and pull them together, I love the look. But without it, the symmetry and shape are disappointing -- and completely opposite of what I was told to expect. When I shared my concern during my final follow-up, the surgeon brushed it off with, "Side boob is a good look." Maybe for some women it is, but not when one breast has migrated halfway toward my armpit. That's not style -- that's structure gone wrong. I waited a few years to be sure my body had healed before reaching out again, hoping for an honest conversation about possible correction. Instead, I was told I'd have to pay $190 just for a consultation -- and that they don't offer complimentary post-surgery implant checks, even years later. I had assumed they would at least verify that the implants were still properly positioned and safe. For context, most women are required to wear a post-surgical compression bra (a supportive medical garment that holds the implants in place and helps the chest heal evenly). I wasn't asked to wear one because the surgeon claimed his "no-bra recovery method" made it unnecessary. In hindsight, I wish I had worn one anyway -- it might have prevented my outcome.

All was good until she asked for the $200 consultation fee - the most expensive fee of any of the other doctors I researched and consulted. The day of my consultation I get a phone call from the receptionist informing me that their 3D imaging is down and I could either reschedule or come in regardless and not get the imaging. I wanted to get the imaging, especially at the $200 consultation fee price, so I rescheduled. The day of my rescheduled consultation I get another phone call from the receptionist saying again that their 3d imaging is down and I can reschedule or come in. I'm a busy mom of two young kids, as any mother knows, it's tough enough to schedule appointments yet alone rescheduling. I decided to keep the appointment and meet with Dr. Connall. Day of my consultation I was greeted by a friendly receptionist. I filled out some paperwork and a nurse brought me back to the consultation room. The nurse was very warm and pleasant (the best interaction I had that day). Dr. Connall was professional and thorough during the consultation and answered my questions however, of all the doctors I've seen he was the only one that recommended a small implant with fat grafting - the cost of two procedures instead of one. Additionally, said I could come in again a year down the road and increase my breast size with another procedure. So, instead of one standard breast augmentation I was looking at 3 to get my desired results. Initially, I liked the idea of fat grafting as I do have some fat tissue to lose, but hindsight I feel like it was an up-sale tactic with the 3 procedures. After the consultation, I was brought into the scheduling room to book surgery. I was interested in getting on the schedule to then go home and talk it over with my husband. I was not told there was a $250 surgery scheduling fee, as my card was charged that same day. So now I'm 450 with Espirt with no 3d imaging and a procedure I didn't intend on getting. I decided to continue with the surgery, as i was excited to finally get my breasts done. On the day of the pre op appointment, I met with a nurse first and as she was going over my notes, she stated I was getting implants and liposuction (not fat grafting). I corrected her and said Dr Connall wanted to do fat grafting in addition to the implant. Another red flag that my surgery was incorrectly written in my file. This led to me having to now get a mammogram because of my age - this was NOT mentioned to me during the consultation by Dr Connall, the nurse or the scheduling secretary. Because of my age, my insurance won't cover a mammogram and it would be an additional 300-500 out of pocket. At this point, I get a huge rush of anxiety. I would not have scheduled the surgery had I'd known I'd have to get a mammogram. There were too many red flags, too chaotic, unorganized, non transparent and sneaky that I decided not to move forward with the surgery. Ultimately, I want to feel safe with the doctor and staff when I'm going under on anesthesia. I want to feel confident that I'm safe, I'll attain my desired results and I want to feel more than I'm just a monetary value. Due to my concerns listed above, we asked for at least my $250, as there was no way I felt safe or valued to go under the knife with them. Dr. Connall refused to refund the $250. He offered to pay for the mammogram, but we explained to him all the red flags and he didn't budge. Dr. Connall refusing to at least refund the $250 is so telling of his character and the Espirt practice. I wouldn't recommend Espirt or Dr. Connall and staff to anyone. I would run far in another direction, as there are competent and compassionate surgeons in the area. Save yourself the $200 consultation fee and just cross this doctor off your list. Best of luck to you reading this review in search of a plastic surgeon!
