I have been a patron of Pete & Jen's mini-store for many years. It's a bit out of my way, but it's…read morealways worth the trip to get locally raised goods. The store is open year-round, 24 hours a day. While that may seem novel for a little shop that only sells fresh farm products, the even more novel part, is that it operates exclusively within the confines of the honor system. Of course, they have cameras set up, because even the tony community of Lincoln has its ne'er do wells. Nevertheless, if you need something at any hour, just fill out one of the shopping lists and drop it, along with your cash into the slot before you leave. It's pretty rare that I need emergency meat, lard, or eggs, but there was definitely one occasion, a holiday, when everything was closed, and I needed eggs, and the mini-store saved my ass (and also my dessert). As you might imagine, because this is all locally produced fare, you will pay more for it. Sometimes substantially more than your nearest supermarket, but if you want premium ingredients, and you prefer local produce and meat, this shouldn't come as a surprise. In fact, if you compare it with Whole Foods, you're not doing badly at all. The range of products available in the mini-store is much wider than it used to be, so rather than list it, I have included an image of their on-line inventory list. The list changes with current inventory, and is updated regularly, so if you're going after something specific, check there first. Time, and my budget preclude my getting here as regularly as I would like, but I'm always grateful to have Pete & Jen's as a resource.

YOU DO NOT, because Pete and Jen's Backyard Birds is open 24/7 for your locavore egg purchasing needs. I feel safer, don't you? Go make flan. Do it. Now.

Lovely experience Apple picking at Honey Pot Hill Orchards this last week…read more Service was great all around despite over an hour wait for the cider donuts (which were most definitely worth the wait). Apples were extremely tasty with great variety and plenty of ladders for picking. My only fret was that the signage at times was not the most clear. And the best part: the ambiance of it all. Perfect cool day in Mass with all the Fall colors and families having a great time... it was such a positive atmosphere. Would totally go again.

I got a small bag for $12.50 which was a great deal. I had no problem with parking. I got a good amount of apples, although I wish the signs for the types of apples were clearer. The main reason my rating isn't higher is due to the policing near the exit. I've been through security at concert venues that were less scrutinizing. When I was leaving, an employee was near the entrance was inspecting the wagon of a family with multiple bags. I didn't hear the entire conversation but I did hear the employee lecturing them about not overfilling the bags. The employee also said to not reuse the bags (something that could be prevented if they wrote the dates on the bags as other orchards do) and understandably the family said they wouldn't come back. Even though I wasn't the target of the apple police, it created an uncomfortable atmosphere. The best part of my visit was the cider donuts. The farm store was disappointingly small with mainly apples and cider available for purchase. Considering the plethora of options for apple picking in MA, I don't plan to return here.

Went with my husband and 10month old to pick some asian pears and honeycrisps. There was organized and ample parking. The main paths have large gravel rocks that were loose and uneven and a grass strip in the middle. It was a bit hard to push through even with our stroller with large wheels. The tractors that occasioned through blew the dust up around the paths too. There were plenty of porta potties and I also liked they have a hand washing station too. We didn't try any of the food trucks but appreciated the option. Farm stand was small, there were some picnic tables but could have been more (potentially near the food trucks) There were some chicks, bunnies, a goat, and donkey? to look at. The kids play area has a 2-5 & 5-12 play structures and water play but they were very close together, not much room to run around between the structures.

From what I could tell, there are larger orchards in the area but Shelburne seemed to have everything you need - a food truck (with an excellent burger and pulled pork sandwich), a hard cider place, the aforementioned apple cider donuts, and a little general store selling jams and whatnot. At first glance, there didn't appear to be a ton of seating but if you walk a bit further up the hill, past the grassy patch, there's a good amount of benches and tables. Apple cider donuts review: 4/5? Not as fresh or as warm as I've sampled at other orchards but these had a healthy dusting of cinnamon sugar and a great chew. Downing two of these bad boys was not a great decision for the ride back (plus I had a cheeseburger). Cheeseburger: 4.5/5. Just a bun, patty, cheese, ketchup but listen, this was one of the best cheeseburgers I've had in a while. The bun was perfectly buttered and toasted and there was just the right ratio of meat to bread to condiments. I felt really, really food-drugged after eating this and the donuts. All the burger needed was some pickles. The only thing I didn't love about the layout is the area with the food truck had only three or four tables (no chairs) and faced the row of Porta Potties but I get that space is at a premium. There was also a sizable hill to get from the food truck to the area with tables/benches/donuts, which made walking in cycling shoes an enormous pain, though that's a me-problem.
