This review is for the delivery service that I ordered for a first birthday party at a park, where vendors (actual serving of the food by staff) was not allowed. I had ordered carne asada, carnitas, and pollo which came with salsas, guacamole, rice, beans, and chips for 70 people, with an add on of horchata and watermelon agua fresca. The delivery and setup went smoothly, and the amount of food was more than enough for the group. The amount of condiments given was generous as well. The downsides were the quality of the carnitas and pollo. The carnitas seemed dry and was chopped into large cubes. The pollo was shredded and mixed in with equal amounts of bell pepper and onion. The best meat was clearly the carne asada, which was completely gone by the end of the event while the other two remained. We gave away the leftovers because they were mediocre. The horchata was good, but the agua fresca was barely sweet and kind of lacking in flavor. I have sampled many taco bars at various events over the years. Overall, I was surprised that this company had a rating of 5 stars on both Yelp and Google. For a price of a little over $1200, it felt quite expensive and like we were mainly paying for the delivery and quantity of food. My family has used this caterer twice. First time was for a twin 11YO birthday party where the kids also had pizza. More kids came for the tacos and quesadillas. All the parents that hung around were very happy as well saying it wasn't your ordinary taco guy. The first party prompted me to hire for end of the year Little League Board meeting. I was looking forward to getting the food, then my wife got sick the day before the party. Rather than say my deposit was gone and tough luck, they let me reschedule my order and keep my deposit with less than 24 hours notice! Our party was yesterday. They showed up to set up the order exactly on time. I went with the catered option instead of live taco service. They set up 5 huge hot catering trays that stayed hot for my entire party, and the materials they used were top notch - great risers and solid trays that held up to many people eating them and can even be reused! We hired The Wanted Taco on very short notice (reached out Friday for a Sunday event) and Denise responded with a quote right away and they were able to accommodate for our party. They were very responsive and catered to our needs. Day of the event, they arrived on time for set up (one hour in advance of planned serving time) and were ready to serve the 60+ guests. I did misinterpret the quote which stated tablecloth for salsa bar and assumed tablecloth's would be provided for the guest tables, but it wasn't a big deal as we had brought our own just in case. The salsa station looked elegant with nice tablecloth and setting and tacos and quesadillas were great. We ordered the pollo, carne asada, and al pastor. Al pastor was easily my favorite, and the salsa verde and guac were on point. We had many guests comment on how good the tacos were, and took business cards for their future events! Andy and Victoria were terrific and provided excellent service. They were awesome and worked hard to make the food for our guests. The food itself was fine; the chicken is shredded chicken (wish it was grilled pieces) and the carne asada seemed like low quality red meat; we got the shrimp upgrade and also veggies which were both good. The rice and beans were good and the salsa bar was well-presented. We paid for the upgrade of having meat quesadillas but what was actually served was pre-made cheese quesadilla with your choice of meat placed on top. It wasn't actually a meat quesadillas that you'd expect (like a chicken quesadillas would have chicken and cheese between the tortillas--this was just cheese quesadilla between the tortillas). A few things could have been handled better: (1) ordering process was difficult with long delays in getting responses from the coordinator; there were also mistakes in the quote provided and unnecessary follow-ups as a result but the coordinator was very nice and honored their original quote. (2) the Guacamole is "free" but they don't bring enough. We ran out early in the process (like 30-45 minutes into the 2-hour service). What's crazy is that we only had 50 guests show up due to last minute cancellations and no-shows but had ordered for 63. I wish they had told me that they typically run out of guac (as the servers told me which indicates they don't bring enough) so I could have paid more for the guac and not run out. They actually charged extra for the sour cream believe it or not which was odd but fine because we didn't run out. I didn't mind paying for something as long as we actually get it and it's enough for our guest count. (3) there was no menu at all so most people had no idea that they could order different items (in our case, tacos, mulitas, and quesadillas). I asked many guests whether they tried the mulita and they either said what's that or said they didn't know they could order that because no one told them. A simple menu to put up on the ledge of the taco stand would be very professional and let people know what they can order. (4) A few hours after they left, I found a box full of tortillas (taco, mulita, and quesadillas sized tortillas) by the wall in our backyard near where they had been serving. By the time I saw it, ants were going everywhere in the box and it was a mess. I think they forgot to put it in our house like the rest of the left-over food. Anyways, this was a decent experience but not the 5-star experience we were hoping to get. read more
