The true measure of customer service commitment can only really be seen when things don't go according to plan. We moved my father-in-law (Papa) late June '26. The transition for him was seamless, but his room wasn't ready when it was supposed to be. When I emailed Ms. Jennie Fay, the Marketing Director, late that Saturday night to let her know what happened, I didn't expect to hear from her until Monday, when normal business hours had resumed. But she got back to me right away. She adjusted things on their end to make up for the loss of time, allowing us to move Papa in before admission. When he showed up, his apartment was ready, fully moved in feeling as much like home as possible. Sherwood Village has dedicated employees that have worked there for ten years or more. The fact that they hold on to good people and promote from within their own facility is a testament to the quality of the work environment. Happy employees simply do better at their jobs - which means better, more stable care for their residents than a place with high turnover. The fact that they take both private pay and state assistance residents means that Papa will not have to move, even if he needs to go on state aide. That's huge both for his mental and physical stability as he ages, and for us - saving us the worry and time of having to find him somewhere else to live and moving him all over again.

We happened upon SDS when we needed to move my Mom to a 24 hour care Memory Unit, but needed an…read moreindependent unit for my Dad. A place that would allow them to be close and feel safe, supported. The property is lovely, and every single staff member I have come into contact with in the last two weeks is gracious, kind and friendly. It is not easy working in the senior retirement community business... I know as I worked in it for roughly 4 years as an ED. It is even more difficult working in a memory care unit, where aging loved ones are not the same selves they once were and need a lot of care. You have to give a level of trust, and rely on strangers to take care of your loved one the way you would. My Mom was here for roughly 2 weeks, with supplemental hospice care from the time she moved in, until the time she passed. The team in the memory care unit was always amazing to us, and my Mom. We were not there 24 hours mind you, but I observed the other residents being cared for and looked after by all the staff. My Mom was pretty much incapacitated and relied heavily on the kind and gentle care of the team here. Besides the Wellness Director Jackie, who was knowledgeable and kind, there is one lady in particular who was a standout to me. It was such a stressful time, I can't even for the life of me remember her name... but she had an eastern European accent. I felt as though she always took great care with my Mom, making sure she was comfortable and looked after... especially when we were not there.

For those who prefer to dine in private, room service is also available. Witch all of it was a lie with the exception of room service it's sad to say that they have no culinary experience whatsoever. My first experience with Devon Gables was when I had my foot amputated…read more I was sent there for Rehabilitation. So I could walk and build strength! The Nursing staff were good, extremely good was a nurses assistant name, LeAnn, very attentive to my needs ! She helped me with the little things that I was not able to do, like plugging in my phone, getting the items I wanted out of my dresser drawer, bringing me new Kleenex, and others things! She even helped me get shaved up! Suzy was really helpful with getting me showered up! The Rehab Team was very helpful too!, especially Paul, Tino and Lisa! They made sure I was able to meet all the requirements of rehab so I could be discharged. Paul however in my personal opinion, went out of his way to keep me enthusiastic and positive about succeeding! ( more on Paul latter) The really bad part about my experience at Devon Gables, is the Food! I'll explain the reason I know about institutional cooking and hospital cooking. I served in the Army as a cook, and cooked for Generals as well as for Troops, exceeding 2500, 3 meals daily in Garrison and in Field Operations, also as a dietary cook in the kitchen at Silas B Hayes Army Hospital at Fort Ord, California. I know food service extremely well, I know the principals of food safety and why it is exceptionally important for the health of the people that are being served. The management nor, the kitchen staff has any functional capabilities of how to provide any of the above traits needed to make dining here pleasureable! We had a meeting with the New Chef/ assistant to the manager, David, and the manager of the Kitchen, Melissa, recently, about the food for upcoming Summer months. Alot of the residents complained about the food, just what I said, overall, they hate it! Breakfast, Dinner and Suppers are at Best!, terrible! The food lacks flavor, eye appeal and, has no smell that can be decifered as appealing as wanting to eat! When meat of any kind is served, it is well overcooked, has no taste as to what it is supposed to be, and usually is dried out. Vegetables are always mushy, no nutritional value at all, broccoli is just the stems, no flower parts! Soups are either so thick with flour or starch thicking and no flavor, or they have to much liquid and no flavor! Alot of patients are diabetic, most of the menus are made up of, noodles, potatoes, and rice, a lot of carbs, and calories! Basically the food is not healthy for the overall population! I've been served food with hair in it, and mold, I contacted the manager about it, and all she does is make excuses about it! The executive Staff cover for the lower management staff, especially when confronted with follow-up to needing something done in our apartments, ( I live here unfortunately because of fixed income) example, it took a year to get our bathroom faucet replaced when the old one broke and the day it was installed, it took five hours to complete! This is my home?, and it looks worse than TJ Mexico, the fences are so worn out, they look disgusting, boards are falling out and even falling as a whole, but when I ask about making our homes look appealing to our family and friends when they visit, if they visit, I'm told it's not in the Budget!, but the front of the office area and the pictures shown on the website are made to look very appealing and the rooms look like a hotel room, but that's far from actuality! where most visitors enter, that area is kept up, but our independent living area and assisted living areas looks terrible! ( Except around the office area) They don't water the grass, trees and bushes are dying off, and again it costs too much to keep it up! When my wife and I first moved in here, it was looking pretty nice, but now it is really shabby! I feel that if you want to have a business that has Health and Rehabilitation it should maintain what they advertise! Not here though! When, I would say, anyone goes looking for a new home or Apartment, Condo or, whatever, They would want curb appeal to be looking nice and kept up, nice neighborhood, professional knowledge Management, appropriately priced, etcetera. I personally believe Devon Gables on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the worst, and, 10 being the best, I'd give a 3, for overall! Believe me, if I had the money to do so, and be able to afford another place I would leave here! This is just My opinion mind you, but talking to others around me who live here, they feel the same way! Another little note, I've seen personally, five people leave here because they died, and three leave just because of the food issues! Remember I said more about Paul! He still comes around to see how I'm doing, says Hi to my wife and asks if there's anything he can do for us! Paul is a real person down to earth individual who genuinely cares about who he provides physical therapy to, but also he is a man that cares about and for all people!

We had a number of appointments scheduled and felt either OK or uncomfortable with the places we toured. Then we found out about fellowship Square. We didn't have an appointment, but thought we would stop by anyhow to see if there was a possibility that we could take an unscheduled tour. Sandra came in to get to know a little bit more of the situation and what things my mom was looking for and to explain the property and amenities. Ultimately, she spent several hours with us. She took us to the dining facility so that we could experience the facility and the food. We were very pleasantly surprised Both by the dining facility and the food and the staff. Our server was Robert and he was absolutely wonderful. He also overheard that it was my mom's birthday the next day and when we finished our meal, he had all of the servers come out and sing happy birthday to her. During the tour, Sandra passed by several of the residence and knew them by their name Which was a very positive Indicator of how the staff treats the residence. The facility itself is very open and full of flowers and fountains and trees And just a very positive place. The apartments themselves are good sized and all of the amenities are wonderful. My sister and I will be very comfortable with our mom living there and it is a place that my mom also feels comfortable about. The fact that they are a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit or organization and a Christian organization was icing on the cake!!

The staffing is amazing, there are both medication techs and caregivers focusing on the residents as a team. There are licensed LVN's 7 days a week which is not standard in this industry, so these examples of staffing truly sets the cascades apart from other facilities. Additionally the reception team answers the phone at all hours and are kind and extremely professional as well. As a recent retired RN I know what quality care looks like and the Cascades has given my family the piece of mind we need and the care my mother deserves. Long story but he is lazy, unresponsive and unhelpful. The phone passes to the bistro and they can't help nor transfer the call to the receptionist. The receptionist is ill equipped at best and transfers the call to the manager, Juan, who either ignores the call or just doesn't care or work his shift. I needed simple stuff and got no response. Time to let that dude go. It's a difficult job, but it's not getting done. I will recommend the place when they set the manager straight. It's sad.

Since then, grandpa has passed but before then the staff at Fairwinds worked so that he could stay there and be cared for. They took such good care of him and he loved the staff. Now, it is just my grandma and she continues to do so well and receive amazing care. It allows her whole family to rest assured that she is ok. I can't say enough about the staff, from the front desk, maintenance, the restaurant, events, etc. they are all amazing and so good to my grandma. Plus, the nursing and aid staff are fabulous to her. I go and visit her there at least twice a week and can attest to the fact that this is a great place for anyone who has someone that is in need of help to ensure they can live independently and safely. They have tons of things for her to do and activities to take part in. Finally, the food and menu is actually really great and the wait staff is even better!

The staff worked with our family throughout my Dads residency and spent time helping us with difficult decisions on his care. It is also located in a quiet neighborhood with a beautiful front and backyard for the residents and family to sit outside. I would highly recommend Casas Adobes over any other homes in the area.
