i feel like i sort of lived here this winter. i'm surprised i didn't have to pitch in for rent or a chore wheel or anything. really cozy place (it's dark and comfy)... nice to stop in for a beer or a cup of black coffee or both. they have some shows and stuff too, which are always interesting, interesting being the operative word in the past. the people who work here are always super nice. i'm not crazy about their food, but like i said, beer and coffee and you can't go wrong. read more

Alright! I think the Waypost may have figured it out and seems to be mostly a bar these days. It still retains a generally quiet vibe. The lighting and seating got an upgrade it appears. This place holds a special spot in my heart. It's grown leaps and bounds since I starting coming here 2 years ago. But the service is still awesome, the people are so nice and cool, the beer is cheap and the food is DELICIOUS. I could eat the vegan tacos every day. Especially if it's turned into a burrito. Twice this week I've gone there during the day for coffee, only to find a note on the door stating that they're either opening late or not opening that day at all. Went to brunch here with my boyfriend and his boys (11 &14)....Great breakfast for the price! I definitely recommend the seasoned tofu! We ordered the waypost rancheros, the breakfast burrito, biscuits and gravy and a tofu scramble. It's not fancy, you order at the bar and there is definitely a hipster vibe. Found this place in North Portland on Yelp and was not disappointed. Searched warm and cozy and this was a great place to meet with friends and hag out on a cool winter midweek evening. The happy hour drink prices were good and the beer selection was fine as well. Small menu of food items but had three different items and they were all very good (yellow curry, chicken pot pie and meatball sandwich). When I walk into a coffee shop, I want a smile and a bit of eccentricity. I found both of these as soon as I walked into The Waypost. I love coffee, but it was late and all I really wanted was a good Chai. Unfortunately, I was nervous because, lately, I have had the misfortune of experiencing some really bad Chai teas in this area. Thus, I was pleasantly surprised with the temperature, the sweetness, and the overall taste. I feel that the drinks, the service, and the cozy environment deserve a visit from any coffee shop lover like me. I gave it four stars because it is hard to arrive there by bus - bike riders will have no problem :) It was also a bit cold with all of the doors open. read more

This super casual coffee shop/bar has a pretty dang good location. It sits right on the bike thoroughfare of N Williams and borders a reclaimed garden space it uses for its outdoor seating. There are few tables in the small patio area, and no smoking, but feel free to wander the slightly overgrown and interesting garden path with your beer or coffee. In the late spring and early fall the sun warms the unshaded seating area to the perfect temperature and leaves you with the feeling of hanging out in your friend's back yard. Inside things are eclectic and unpretentious. A wild assortment of art and found objects grace the walls. Random furniture arrangements offer both comfy couches and the more standard 4-tops. Nothing matches but it offers something for everyone. You don't have to fight for a seat, but there is always a buzz of some activity in the evening hours. I'm pretty sure they would never kick someone out for overstaying their welcome, so put up your feet, send some emails and relax for a couple hours. The staff is friendly and generally recognizes you as a familiar face once you've stopped by a couple times. They have a great and rotating beer selection as well as continuously updated infused spirits with creative mixers that are enjoyable, some downright amazing. They offer both vegan and non-vegan food options on a short but sufficient menu. The food can be hit or miss, but is generally pretty good for the price and is always fresh. The Cozy Pies are DELISH and the yellow curry is dependably yummy. This month they are featuring all the election debates. They regularly host non-profit events, live music and trivia. You are downright guaranteed to find some informed, involved and outgoing people to chat with on any of these occasions. read more

My girlfriend and I came here for brunch for the first time. I was very pleased. The space was cozy and unpretentious and the staff were extremely friendly. The draw for me was the vegan biscuits & gravy. While the mushroom gravy didn't have the most appetizing appearance, it still tasted great. I also ordered a bloody mary, which tasted very fresh, but maybe could have used a bit more vodka. (Or maybe just I could have...) We stayed and did some work for bit while we sipped coffee. I came to the Waypost last night for a band from out of town my girlfriend told me about. The music was good and the atmosphere was moody which I like. I saw they had music tonight and their drinks are reasonable, so I went in again with some other friends tonight. There were some cool cover songs. I also liked the bartender with the red braids. She remembered what I liked to drink from the night before and offered me food and the tacos were pretty good. A lot of small bars like this one avoid their food menu and just push booze. Their infused liquor drinks are tasty and worth their price. I'm going to definitely be checking out what they have going on when planning a night out or showing company around Portland. read more

This venue has a history of booking bands and not letting them play. My boyfriends band was on tour from Austin and they changed the set time and didn't tell them and wouldn't let them play. This place was my home away from home when I was unemployed. It's a great place to bring your books or laptop and work (or apply for jobs, if the economy has treated you as badly as it treated me, haha). Wifi is reliable. Food and coffee are basic but solid. They have a good beer selection and cocktails, too. Excellent cider toddies in the winter! I love that this place maintains a cafe vibe more than a bar vibe even in the evenings.
