I was recently looking into options for an at-home vet for my German Shepherd, Gretta. She has always been a huge handful when it comes to the vet. I figured I'd try looking for vets that make house calls. I found out about the Welcome Waggin from the excellent reviews on Yelp and Google. I gave them a call and explained the situation. They told me it was no issue and I scheduled the appointment. Today, Dr. Safford and Sarah arrived for Gretta's appointment. I let them in and they prepared her sedative to make the process as stress-free as possible. The injection was done before I knew it and my furbaby was off to sleep. Dr. Safford and Sarah worked together like the team they are to get all her shots done and nails trimmed. Along the way, they answered all the questions I had (a lot) and made some recommendations. Once they were finished, they administered the reversal for the sedative and stayed with my dog until she woke up. That took a while! They were super patient and super nice throughout. Payment is super easy, I paid with my credit card. They ordered all the medications my dog needed and provided me scripts for those I could get at the store. If you're looking for an incredible vet that does house calls, I'd highly recommend Dr. Safford and her team! The visit was much-less-stressful doing it at home. Strongly recommend the Welcome Waggin- we have a timid cat that is very afraid to leave the house. She was experiencing eye and ear issues. The doctor and the assistant were amazing at putting us at rest as well as our sweet cat, Susie. I was super impressed that they are full-service with the ability to test ear infections, do a blood draw and a full physical all in the comfort of the home. I have lost their names in the fog of the experience, but the veterinarian and the tech who arrived to put our Corky down were absolutely wonderful. This practice had long supported the cat of the lady across the hall and I am so glad to have had this contact. Corky was dying, but it was not necessary to allow him to suffer for days, and so we called Welcome Waggin. These two women were wonderful to us and to him. We paid $567.00 on Friday for them to come check our sick dog. They forgot the blood sample at our house and had to come back to pick it up. Our dog was sick all weekend. We emailed this weekend and called at 915 this morning. They didn't even call us back. Now it's 730pm. No response. Unbelievable! Do not recommend! They are always accommodating and we've never had trouble getting them out to see our dogs. We used their end of life services for our 15 and 1/2 year old German Shorthair pointer. Dr McIntyre and Sarah have been treating our dog,Max, for the last two years. Max gets very intimidated at the Veterinarian and we felt treating him at home would calm his nerves. Max loves Dr McIntyre and Sarah. He's not at all afraid and loves that they sit on the floor and give him lots of love while examining him. A few months ago Max got into my daughter's candy. We had no idea how much chocolate he consumed and we were panicked. Dr McIntyre was so compassionate. She walked us through administering hydrogen peroxide to make him throw up even though it was extremely late at night she took the time to help our baby! She checked in several times during the night and the next day. You can tell that the staff at Welcome Waggin loves animals. I would not take Max to anyone else! read more

If you have an elderly dog who can't travel easily or needs end of life services I can't say enough good things about The Welcome Waggin. They were great with my older dog. If you have a healthy dog and just want routine veterinary care for a puppy I can't recommend them at all. The cost is far above and beyond what you would pay for a fixed veterinary practice and the service we received didn't warrant the much higher costs. We had three appointments with our young puppy thinking that it would be less stressful for her versus going into an office and knowing that with COVID that some vets come out and take your dog inside without the owner. Our wiggly puppy got jabbed 8 times at her last appointment with Welcome Waggin for four shots (one with a needle meant for larger dogs and not smaller ones because the technician didn't check the size before they tried to administer the vaccine). To say I was upset would be an understatement. It was not a good experience. She was crying and trying to get away and I was nearly in tears myself. The cost for some vaccinations were nearly double compared to the office down the road (in spite of the WW claims that they were comparable). i.e. Lepto was $26 at Riverview and $47.67 from WW. After the house call fee and the added cost of the vaccines you will wind up paying ALOT more to have this service come to your home over a series of puppy shots. Lyme was $62 from WW and $42 from Riverview. 50% higher is not comparable. I get that they are coming to your house; but they don't have the overhead of a clinic and a lot of employees so the math doesn't work out IMO. I switched to Riverview Veterinary Clinic and had a much better experience. I also felt that my dog got a more thorough exam in the office by comparison. read more

Dr. Jeni and Sarah came highly recommended and they did not disappoint! We had Welcome Waggin come to our home, during the last 3-4 years of Gracie's life. The 70# dog was not a fan of going anywhere in the car, in her final years, so their service was well received. When the time came, our lab passed away in the backyard she'd played in for 16 1/2 years, thanks to them. They showed such compassion for both the family and our beloved pet. Several days later, we got a hand written note, expressing their sadness for our loss. Then, a while later, we got a card announcing that they had made a donation, in memory of Gracie, to the Arbor Day Foundation. Having three cats, it can be very difficult to get them to the vet. With Welcome Waggin there is no need to take them anywhere, the vet comes to us! Dr Lisa and her assistants are extremely personable with us as well as the cats. Unfortunately, our first encounter was when we had to put down our eleven year old cat. We wanted him to be at home and not stressed like previous pets we have had. Dr Lisa came and gave her condolences before even meeting our Lucky. I wanted to get my cat tested for hyperthyroid, and Dr. Lauri and Sarah came out to our house within a few days of inquiring for an appointment. They were efficient but caring, treating Graham with the same tenderness I would (if I was sticking needles into him, anyway!) I appreciated their honesty as well - they did not try to sell me additional food or other tests that weren't needed. It might be a tiny bit more than going to an area veterinary clinic, but I will always call The Welcome Waggin when I need a vet from now on. They put down one of my cats and was completely rude about it and very insensitive after injecting my cat to put him down. Also, they love to lie to you about everything pretty much. read more

Came to my home and took excellent care of my senior cat. Explained everything she was doing to examine him in a way that I could understand. Really an exceptional team of women that I have met so far in working with them to care for my cat. They have a texting phone line they give to clients; the client can then text them any kind of follow up questions, send photos or videos of what is happening with their pet, etc. This service doesn't cost you anything extra and you will receive a reply informing you of their office hours and a recommendation of where to go in cases of emergency. When they return to the office, or if it is during their open hours, they are very reliable and prompt in their reply. It is so nice to be able to effectively communicate with the vet without the mess of phone calls and holding and "they're not in right now can I take a message..." these things don't exist anymore with the incredible convenience of the text line. This is the only animal care business I don't feel overwhelmed by. Thank you so much for your considerate care for my little guy! This Saturday we had to put our beautiful 12 year old dachshund to sleep after he experienced quick and unforeseen bladder and neurological issues. After many agonizing visits to the animal hospital and pain management, we had made the decision on Friday after speaking with our local vet and getting a second neurological evaluation and opinion to let our baby go. We called around and were directed to The Welcome Waggin. I spoke with Sarah who was very kind on the phone and she helped figured out a way to schedule a visit with Dr. McIntyre the next day. As my mom said, "Dr McIntyre was an angel sent". She arrived at our home with warmth and compassion. Our dachshund was surrounded by our family, had an amazing meal of rotisserie chicken and peanut butter ice cream before we were ready to say our goodbye. Dr McIntyre was patient, knowledgeable, kind and really made the whole experience peaceful for our pup. This felt like the most humane way of letting our baby go, without the scrutinizing pain of going to the vet and causing him anxiety. My dog, Jack, has had lumps and bumps all his life but there was one on his back leg that was particularly bad. It swelled and broke during the night and by morning his entire leg was swollen so badly, he couldn't put any weight on it. There was no way we were going to be able to get him in and out of the car (he's 65 pounds) to take him to a vet without stressing him and us out completely so we had to look for an alternative. We found these wonderful ladies here on Yelp and I called them when they first opened. They were able to come out within a few hours and I was so impressed with them. Jack is particularly suspicious of strangers and can be difficult but they soon won him over with treats. Dr. Laurie checked Jack out completely and even though they muzzled him for safety, Jack was okay with it. She gave him a couple of prescriptions and told us where to get one of them filled so that it didn't cost too much which I appreciated. Jack is now resting comfortably and I'm sure he will be so much better in a day or two. All of us had a stress-free experience using this service and these ladies are so kind and caring. I was worried a little bit about the cost but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't even as expensive as taking him to a regular vet would have been. With the added plus of having Jack taken care of in his own home, It was so worth it. They will be our veterinary service from now on. Dr. Lauri and Sarah came to my home last week to help me with my decision to end my feral cat's life. Jack was completely feral for three of his eight years and befriended me first. Slowly I got him into my home. Unfortunately the good life with too much abundance of food caused him to develop diabetes and then neuropathy and his walking became very difficult for him. He trusted me and fortunately he only had about 30 seconds of "fear" before he was sedated and relaxed to be euthanized. I miss him very much but have comfort in knowing that he did not have to endure a crate, car ride, strange office--just peace. This was my best decision. I could not have been more satisfied, it was time to face the inevitable. An out of town family member recommended in home euthanasia. I did a quick search and found very favorable reviews on Yelp. Two articles, one from the Sun Times and the other from the Tribune convinced me I was making the right choice. I was on the phone with Sarah within minutes of finding out about this wonderful service and later that same day, Dr. Lauri arrived on our doorstep and helped us through our heartbreaking situation. Dr. Lauri kindly and compassionately advised us of the process and procedure and gave us all the time we needed to say good bye. Our beloved dog, who hated the car and going to the vet was spared the high anxiety of that situation and instead went peacefully to sleep on her favorite couch in the only home she had ever known. I will recommend The Welcome Waggin to anyone I know facing this dreaded event. I felt the price was very reasonable, and after life services for burial or cremation are coordinated with the Hinsdale Pet Cemetary. A week later we had her ashes, and it felt like she was home again. Furthermore, if and when I get another dog, The Welcome Waggin will be my vet.
