Not much to look at from the outside, in fact we nearly didn't see it, but The Westy was a pleasant surprise once inside. At the front is the bar and some tall tables, further back and up a few stairs is some regular seating as well as 2 skee ball machines and a couple other games. I ordered their brownie sundae first, because as an adult I get to eat dessert first if I want to. The brownie is one for hungry corner lovers, it is quite large with a crunchy top and gooey underside. I also ordered a Cesar Salad, which had that classic zing one always hopes for, and their Sriracha Thai-Basil wings. The wings were absolutely my favorite thing and for anyone afraid of spice, they were sweet as can be. Of course my review wouldn't be complete without a generous nod to our great waitress. She was tending the slow bar and to us in the back, which she did with ease and an outstanding attitude. We fell in love with this place and have been back many times. They hands down have the best bloody marries in Seattle (Ghost Pepper). The food is rich and homie and the atmosphere is dark and comfy. I rate three stars because I have been to this place 10+ times and out of all the times only one server has always been nice. The servers are generally inattentive and disengaged. Due to the last time we went we will hesitate to go back because they made a mistake on the order and instead of just replacing it they argued that it was correct. I just have to say this is such a West Seattle gem. The atmosphere, the staff, the food, the drinks...all 5+ STARS. Went in around 8:30 pm last night and had drinks and shared some food. Their take on the Old Fashion, Old Mischievous Ways, is divine. That spiced simple syrup and theJohn Jacob Fremont rye they use combined perfectly. So much so that being the Old Fashion snob that I am, I had to have another. I do prefer mine with a luxardo cherry in it (I know this can be taboo!) but this cocktail was so delicious I didn't even miss it. A+ For food we shared the seared broccoli (I swear I come here just for this dish!) and also the Mexican corn dip. Both generous servings and I even brought some home. We shared The Rancher's Chicken Salad, a salad I haven't seen on the menu before, and it was outstanding. Again, a very generous portion. Please support this little gem of a place. I've been trying to expand my culinary horizons after ordering takeout from the same 3 places for the past several months, so I found this on door dash and decided to give it a shot. I'm not normally a huge fan of bar food so I went in with my expectations low because of my own bias. What I will say is that I didn't expect this 'bar food' to be so...Seattle. Note: This is not a complaint. I ordered the healthiest thing that I saw that wasn't a boring salad, which was the quinoa fried rice- I don't have any photos for once because I quite literally inhaled it. They have to use extra egg to make the quinoa stick together and I absolutely LOVE that. It added a nice texture to the dish that made it better than fried rice to me. I also got the pretzel bites- they arrived HOT and soft, and the spicy mustard-like sauce they come with isn't my cup of tea but objectively it was still good. The pretzels also came with a cheese that I couldn't quite place and am too lazy to look up on the menu, but I can tell you that it also was not my cup of tea. But who can complain about being served hot, soft, salty pretzels? I still enjoyed everything! The only gripe that I could possibly have is the price but I mean...I do live in west Seattle, so I set myself up to complain about this particular point in almost every review. Cute place and great location. Various menu items- mostly bar food but they do have bowls. The tuna bowl was a solid gluten free option and they had Ghostfish blonde on draft. My friend ordered a burger with a side salad. The food was decent. The rice in my bowl was mostly cooked but interspersed with uncooked or hard rice pieces making it difficult to eat. Sat in a little plastic pod on the sidewalk with a propane heater- felt safe and the waitress was on the ball. Warning for actual celiacs they do not have a dedicated fryer here despite the GF markings on the fried items. Got here about 5pm on weekday for happy hour and found parking very easy on the street out front. I walked in to a fairly crowded bar and figured they must be doing something right. Nice long bar with plenty of TV's and an upper level in the back with additional table seating. I sat at the bar and looked over the happy hour menu which was straight forward and simple. Everything is $5 and there are plenty of great options! I wish more places would do it this way. I went with the Westy Jr. burger and irish nachos and both were really good and a great value. The nacho plate was huge and I couldn't finish it. Great tap list as well with some really good local beer options. This is a great take on a sports bar without being over the top and generic. Buried halfway between White Center and West Seattle on 35th is the Westy. It's so easy to drive by as you head between these Seattle neighborhoods. Slipped in between is a really great place to just hang out. It's a upscale dively sports bar that's really hopping on a Friday night. Pretty solid food and a full bar with some local brews; got me a Reuben's Brew there. I'd definitely try this place out if you want to be in one of those hidden neighborhood bars that only the locals know about. That said, I think the words out on this place. I wish I would have reviewed this place when it was one of my favorites. I would have given it four or five stars. It's a nice little neighborhood bar, the bartender is a good guy and the food was great. It's an unfortunate axiom that restaurants rarely, if ever, get better. They stay the same or get worse. I hate to say that, in the case of the Westy, the latter is true. I used to laud the quality of food here. Not only did they have one of the best reubens in Seattle, they served late night which is also a rarity around here, particularly West Seattle. My visit before this last one was a bit embarrassing. Friends were visiting from out of town and I knew one of them was as much of a reuben aficionado as I. Unfortunately, his wife was more of a chicken and waffles fan. The waffles were received well, but the chicken was completely decimated. So much so, that we asked for a re-fire which turned out only slightly less overcooked. I figured it was a one-out. Every restaurant can have a bad night or a menu item that doesn't rise to the level of the rest of the faire. Much to my lament, my last visit may be my last visit. I had a long day at work and I could hear that reuben calling my name. Once there, I heard the devastating news that the reuben was no longer on the menu. My first thought was to leave and go to Roxy's for some overpriced, but yummy Chinese food. I should have went with that. Have you ever eaten something at a restaurant and wondered how it made it to the menu? That was my thought at the moment I bit into the Italian beef sandwich. The bread was so overdone, it was like eating a giant crouton. The menu describes it as a 'rustic roll' which turned out to be accurate. Even if it hadn't been, it was way too much for the overabundance of pickled relish consisting of cauliflower, red peppers and pepperoncinis. Nothing else was there to tie it together. No cheese, no sauce, nothing. Quite possibly the driest sandwich I've ever almost eaten. Now, I'm a glutton. When I'm hungry, I'll eat almost anything. And I was starving when I got here. But I couldn't eat it. I tried a second and third bite, each worse than the last. So, I reconciled myself to eating just the meat and some of the fries. The meat was dry but passable to someone as hungry as I was. To top it all off, the waffle fries were overdone. Come on! I ate what I could to stave off the hunger and left unsatisfied and thirty dollars poorer (including a beer, a pop and gratuity). In fairness, I didn't complain. I was in a bad mood and didn't want to say something I would regret later. I don't want to write this place off, so I'll probably give them another try and hopefully revise my rating. For now, the only reason this isn't a one-star review is the caliber of the bartender and a history worthy of one more chance. Also, there are still good things on the menu. The Buffalo Cauliflower is still a favorite and the Westy Burger is still a good menu choice. Thus ends my overwrought and petulant, yet accurate review. They were delicious and addicting to eat, a definite must from the appetizer menu. For dinner I had the ghost pepper burger. It was cooked perfectly and it was pretty spicy! I am not much of a sport person. However, my husband loves sports. So I have gone to watch "the game" in many bars. When we came to visit Seattle, our friend who helped open the Westy wanted to give us a tour of the bar. It was amazing to have a personal tour of the restaurant/sports bar. We got to hear all the details that went into making the place it is today. Even walking in, the entire front has been completely redone. It use to look like just like the business next door. I loved the front since the window actually rolls up exposing the fresh air and a little counter. It will be the perfect summer spot to come for the game. My husband can watch the game while I soak up the fresh air and since, there is a wonderful array of beverages, I would definitely find the perfect IPA to sip on. We ordered some food and I was happy to see that there were plenty of vegetarian options. The broccoli was a definite highlight. It was pan fried, and spicy, tangy, garlicky perfection. I could have had the whole plate by myself. We also ordered the Irish nachos with the bacon on the side. The waffle fries made it a very filing bar grub. I wish I could have tried the black bean burger or the salmon burger but it will have to wait for next time. I also enjoyed that there was other fun activities like skee ball and shuffleboard. And in the large back room there are there cool lockers. Our friend told us the lockers use to be from the University of Washington. And the same lockers were used in the private room in the back too. There were so many aspects of the bar that were repurposed.When walking from the font bar to the larger back room the side of the wall has wood panels dyed in 3 different shades to create a mosaic look. When we sat at the bar, we met a couple who expressed their gratitude and they expressed that this bar filled the void in their neighborhood. And that they enjoyed coming to the Westy to enjoy a burger and a good beer before heading home. Another patron mentioned that he had returned for a full plate of wings. He had been in the Westy earlier and he had to share so he had to return to fill his void. The appreciation of this business can be felt by the community. Right from the get-go this place impresses. I typically prefer divey kind of joints but this place "gets it". The Westy has a super relaxed vibe without being a total shithole. Its very well decorated, constructed, and very well attended by friendly and cute waitresses. You may think this a misogynistic thing to say and maybe it is, but the last I want to look at is a lumber-jack brogamer while I drink beer. Supposedly this was the place to go, but I definitely had some issues here. My main issue was eating a hunk of wax paper that I found in my burrito. I realize I'm not going to die from it, but it definitely grossed me out and I lost my appetite. The potatoes that came in the burrito and as a side I felt were super greasy and overly salted, and I like a lot of salt! I also tried the fried pickles and they had quite a bit of breading on them, not what I like. I do have to say it's a nice clean place, with a good atmosphere. I just can't give it high marks because of these issues. I would be willing to try it again though, in hopes I'll have a better experience next time. read more

Really good new bar in west Seattle. Has solid drinks and good beer tap selection. Happy hour for both drinks and food. Have had there wings and nachos. Both worth getting. They also have brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Not a lot to select from but decent. Had the biscuits and sausage gravy. It was ok but not the best. I think there breakfast will be better as they progress. Still recommend this bar if you're looking for a new fun spot. They even have two ski ball lanes to go with there many tv's. read more

Very good mixed drinks here the "on tap" cocktails are excellent. I had one mixed like an old fashioned but with just a bit of champagne in it aged for a bit. It wasn't bubbly but it had some good flavors from the champagne. They also put in two kinds of bitters so it didn't become overly sweet which was really nice. Food on the happy hour menu here is excellent! They make an AMAZING burger for $5 and the broccoli is surprisingly delicious. The make the broccoli with Thai chili put it in oil and vinegar and add a bunch of garlic. My mouth waters just thinking about it. The Cuban sandwich was a bit of a disappointment because the meat was very subpar but the bread was pretty tasty. Great beer selection as well! They rotate things through but they always have some tasty brews on tap. read more

This place is a cool sports bar with a pretty good menu. A lot of gluten free and veggie options! The place is small and usually packed on game days. I suggest going early to get a table. Westy serves tots as a side instead of fries which is a bummer for me but bf loves it. Their veggie burger is good and bf thought the Westy burger had good flavor. One night we did take out and thought to try their desert options - cinnamon bites and the brownie sundae. I think they use husky deli ice cream which was amazing but the brownie we didn't like the taste. The cinnamon bites had a cool twist of being waffles - I can't say they had much flavor and was a bit on the hard side. To be fair we came for a Seahawks game and only got drinks and the Irish nachos, BUT if their whole menu is anything like those Irish nachos then 10/10 because I was impressed! So. Good. First, they're huge! Tons of cheese throughout, perfectly melted and stringy, topped with tons of creamy guacamole, and sour cream. Definitely will get those again. It gets pretty crowded during games but that's what makes it a sports bar, obviously. And it's fun! The only thing is our waiter didn't know their drink list very well, since he recommended a sweet cider when I asked if they have any dry ones, turns out the did have dry and he just didn't know, but that's super minimal. Really the best neighborhood bar in West Seattle... I think the only downside is that it is pretty pricey for a sports bar, but the food is really good quality and they have a seasonally-changing menu, so I get it. I really don't think I've ever had a bad meal here. The drinks are great, too, and they usually have at least one cocktail on tap. And let me take a moment to show my appreciation for the pterodactyl sauce. It is without a doubt the best hot sauce I've ever had. It's legitimately super spicy, but it actually has a flavor beyond "hot". They should really bottle that stuff. I've been there a few times now and the waitstaff is great, always quick with a smile and they make sure we all get the same message about the latest covid rules. The last time I was there I had the Flatbread Supreme and enjoyed it very much ! Had kind of a pizza vibe to it - perfect. But the person next to me ordered the chef's special and it looked great I am going to look for the special now whenever I go. I guess it changes but whatever it is, it will be worth traveling from Burien to West Seattle to taste it. They have the NHL Center Ice package, and have been great about putting hockey games on TV when requested. Lots of great things going on here - they have great food, and not just for a sports bar, a wide selection of draft beers and a strong chance you'll find something you'll love, and I have met some really cool people / had meaningful conversations while bellied up to the bar. I'd like to go again tonight, now that I think of it...
