So...What I remember most from our first visit here is the discomfort the whole time because it was a hot day and their AC apparently wasn't working. The fact that none of their touch screen ordering machines was working didn't exactly help elevate our experience, either. Now their green tea was decent although we had to have the sweetness adjusted a coupe of times, and their boba was fine. Service was quick and casual friendly, so no comment there. I wish them well. I can see us going back if we lived closer, but never say never. read more

Wow! I am so happy with this place! I've visited the New Haven location as well, but I already can tell this location is a standout. The location in downtown is perfect and the store looks so homey, great setup. Ordering online was seamless. Plus you get a free drink through the app after a certain amount of orders- fun pro tip! I arrived and it was super simple. The cashier was also very friendly and offered me a bag if I needed. I didn't realize there was a stamp card you could get so they explained it to me and gave me two stamps for the two drinks I bought- very kind! The drinks themselves are great, the boba was so warm! The lids are so cute and I've never seen them at the new haven location. My partner loved the matcha drink. Definitely recommend the brown sugar as well, give this place a try! We are visiting from out of state, we are staying within walking distance. The service was amazing, we got a mango slush and Mango tea with lychee jelly. The tea was really good I would say maybe pair it without the lychee jelly as it could come off as soapy flavor. But overall so refreshing and deliciou! 10/10! the service here is nice but that's about it. we came in on a hot humid evening and there was no air conditioning inside the store, just 2 puny fans for the entire space. we ordered a creme brulee oreo milk drink. for over $8 with tax, we received watered-down milk with maybe 2 oreos' worth of cookie crumbs mixed in, and barely any creme brulee to speak of. maybe the other drinks here are better but we were sorely disappointed, especially considering the rave reviews. read more

This was the second time coming. The first time i tried the Jasmine Tea and it was subtle and light. Today i got matcha and the boba complimented it was well. I was super excited when they opened after trying the one in Fairfield. It's about time that there was a legit bubble tea place in Stamford. They use fresh ingredients and is a bit pricy but for the area, in line with other bubble tea prices so it's well worth it. Ordering by phone or in person allows you to get stamp cards for buy 10 get 1 free. Service is always nice and they take care in making each drink. Yesssssss finally some decent boba and tea on the east coast! Every place we went to either had bad tea or bad boba.... (clearly I haven't been to Manhattan yet, I really want the boba guys ). We have been searching far and wide and finally found a (good!!!) local place!!! .... Well, this might be the only boba place in this town; so I guess it's the best. We got our tea 200% sweet (judge all you want) it was delicious, the boba was hot, fresh, and flavored. I ordered milk teas and didn't get just the milk (see Kung Fu Tea). We got the whale crystal, creme brûlée brown sugar and creme brûlée Oreo milk teas. Plus, the guy (prob the owner) was super nice and the lady was nice, too. We'll be back for more. Best tasting Boba in Stamford! I am really picky when it comes to Boba but I appreciate the service I get and also the quality of the tapioca used in the boba. Other places have it like a hard, cold and gummy texture which is not good, but the whale tea has it really chewy and flavorful! I love getting their creme brûlée and appreciate their customization option as well as their amazing quality of slushees. Definitely best around! read more

This place has absolutely amazing bubble tea. Stamford needs a good bubble tea shop and this is one. HOWEVER, service here is absolutely terrible, as terrible as how good their teas are. Make sure you plan a good 30min mid day during a weekday with 1 person ahead of you because that's how long you'll wait on average despite there being more than 1 person working. This is literally ten times slower than any half decent bubble tea shop in NYC. They'll take a whole minute confirming arguing with each other over who added sugar to a tea. We arrived at 3.30pm with one customer ahead of us. We got out at 4.10pm. They will get almost half your orders wrong be it via seamless or in person. Literally every visit we had there was at least one drink with an option. Paid for extra milk foam? They'll forget it. Paid for large? Get medium. The staff they hired is also rude. We were waiting in line and saw a staff with red hair being mean to a gentleman. The customer asked for a slush, got a regular tea instead. When the customer confronted her, she flat out denied it and snapped at the customer instead insisting that he's wrong and didn't pay for the additional slush. All in all this just means the franchise is great but the owners are terrible at hiring staff and staff is really bad. read more

WARNING!!! I love this new addition to Stamford but one CRITICAL issue, which is the reason for my 1 star review... They do not disclose on the menu everything they put into their drinks! I ordered a drink only to find out after finished it that there was a slice of watermelon at the bottom. You're probably thinking, "So what?" Well, I'm allergic to watermelon. I don't remember the exact drink, but I'm pretty sure it was a peach tea --basically something that in no way seems like it should have watermelon in it. I got pretty sick from the drink. To the store's credit, when I called they "tried to make it right" in offering me a free drink. While that was very nice of them, what they really need to do is disclose everything they put in their drinks on their menu. I made this suggestion (twice!) and was brushed off. I don't think The Whale Tea understands the importance of labeling food items for allergy purposes. Or maybe they just don't understand that allergies are more than gluten and dairy... Hopefully this review will make them realize it is extremely important and quite frankly not doing so can be dangerous. Until they update their menu to reflect all the random things they put in their drinks as garnishes, or to actually make the drink, I STRONGLY suggest that if you have any food allergies (especially fruit!), no matter how unlikely you think it is they'll put it in the drink, TELL them when ordering. Apart from this issue, which I find to be a pretty big one, I'd actually give them 5 stars. If and when they update their menu I will happily update my review. My current rating is purely in the hopes that other people with food allergies will read it and that The Whale Tea will realize just how big of an issue this is. read more

The boba and tea are legit. Was happy to see this be available in Stamford. I guess that's why they can command the price $15 for two basic bobas, a bit steep but they are the only specialty place around doing this. Some logistics behind the counter need to be worked out , the ticket count and number of people behind the counter do not add up to the time you have to wait for a boba. Wasn't much hustle but the entire set up of tea pitchers and ingredients bar was inefficient and not ergonomic. I can see how the other reviews are angry about wait times and customer service. They need to hire some folks who have worked at busy city street corner Starbucks'. read more

The tea itself is good. The bubbles are made well and taste good. BUT... There is no organization when it comes to making orders based on when they are made. I ordered 3 drinks online and it took a FULL HOUR for them to be made. I came to pick them up when the confirmation email said they would be ready (about 25 minutes later) and they had not even started making my drinks. When I asked, they showed me the cups that had stickers with my orders attached and said they were not ready. I left and came back 15 minutes later and they had STILL not even started making them. People who I saw placing orders when I first came in were getting their drinks and I was still standing around waiting. The stickers on the cups have no time stamp, and they seem to just make whichever orders they want to, completely disregarding the time when the orders came in. The online ordering process could be improved. For instance, you can leave comments to make a drink 50% less sweet, but there's no way to know that they will actually make it that way. They could just make an option to change sweetness, like most other tea companies do. read more

I never had taro puree in my bubble tea before and I really enjoyed it the first time I had it... which is why my boyfriend and I get whale tea all the time despite the prices (about $6 for a small and $7 for a large).
