After years of using Yelp, this is the first company that has compelled me to write a review. I recently purchased a used vehicle which had some pretty gnarly curb rashes on the rims. I searched on Yelp for rim repair/reconditioning services in the NYC area and that's how I stumbled upon Derek and Natasha at The Wheel Doctor. On my first phone call, I spoke with Derek. I asked Derek about the cost of cosmetically fixing the curb rashes on my rims. He informed me that he unfortunately no longer does them but gave me some good advice on finding the right shop to do the job. I mentioned to Derek during the conversation that the best price I had gotten was $150 per rim. He informed me that no one can really give a final price until they see the condition of the rims. He also mentioned to me about replica rims which he stated (depending on my model car) could even be cheaper than trying to recondition and repaint. According to Derek, replica rims look exactly like the OEM ones, are made to spec, and are sometimes even made in the same factory as the OEM rims. It just doesn't get branded the manufacturer's logo on the inside - which you will never see anyway. This was basically a 9-10 minute conversation that Derek invested in to a guy (me) who had no potential of being a customer. Once we got off the phone, I just thought, "Wow, it really sucks he doesn't fix curb rashes anymore." Derek just came off as a very honest, genuine, and super knowledgeable guy. I briefly googled replica rims and confirmed everything Derek had told me in regards to their quality and reliability. However, at that time, I assumed that there was just no way it would be cheaper than just having my current rims fixed cosmetically. Fast forward to a few days later... there was actually a myriad of things wrong with the car. Fortunately for me, the dealership I purchased it from was a reputable one and did their best to fix all the issues with the car. One of the issues diagnosed was that one of the rims didn't just have a curb rash issue, it also was bent... but could only be detected via noticeable vibration at 55-60 MPH. This was the last and final issue with the car to give it a clean bill of health. The dealership sent me to their local wheel repair shop to fix the damaged rim. After the fix, the vibration disappeared completely at 55-60 MPH but there was still a little slight shake at 65-70 MPH. It was so slight that I wondered if it was just all in my head. Or maybe it was the 3 other rims? Maybe one or all 3 of them had minor issues? Once I got home, I decided to look up pricing on replica rims. To my surprise, it was $40 cheaper PER WHEEL to get brand new replica rims for my car versus cosmetically fixing them!!! My second call to The Wheel Doctor was when I spoke with Natasha. She explained to me the cost and the technology they used when balancing and mounting the wheel and tire that made their service so unique. Just like Derek she came off as very honest, genuine, and knowledgeable. I ordered the rims and had it shipped directly to The Wheel Doctor. Once I got the tracking information I e-mailed it to Natasha. Not a minute later, Natasha e-mailed me back to confirm that she had received the tracking information. The wheels had come on a Friday afternoon. As soon as the wheels arrived, I got a missed call and a voicemail from Derek while I was at work. When I called Derek back, I told him I wanted the work done as soon as possible because of my hectic schedule. Unfortunately, the shop closes at 6:00 P.M. and I wouldn't be able to get there until 5:15 - 5:30 P.M.. Derek told me that he was willing to stay late that Friday in order to get the job done as long as I was willing to wait. I told him absolutely. He estimated it would take approximately 2 hours. True to his word, Derek finished the job in 2 hours on a Friday night. At 7:45 P.M. he handed me the computer print out and explained in detail all the work he had done. Friday night with no extra compensation, here he was still taking extra time to make sure I understood what my money was put towards. As for the work, the road force machine Derek uses at his shop, WOW!!! My car is a completely different car!!! It's like I'm driving on air!!! It was worth every penny!!! The amazing customer service and attention to detail is just icing on the cake. The proof is in the pudding is what they say! All the reviews on this shop are legit. I hope Derek, Natasha, and The Wheel Doctor stays open for a very long time. This is the place I'll go to to get any sort of balancing/mounting from here on and out and would highly recommend them to anyone who requires such service in the NY area. The automotive industry is filled with a lot of sleaze balls. I'd give this place 10 stars if I could! Please read! Ive never met a guy who's more honest and dedicated to his craft than the gentleman that owns this place. I found the wheel doctor in my search for a wheel repair shop, just looking around and I was intrigued by the unique name. I checked out the website (yes, this shop has a website) and was impressed at how well it was done. Most small shops that do a niche repair like this do not have websites or anything outside of a sketchy storefront. I called the place and a man named Derek answered the phone and answered the questions I had and he said if I can get to him before 4pm, he'll work until completion on my car. I got there at 3:30, and I was blown away at how professional, polite, knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming Derek was. He put my car on the lift and showed me everything he saw wrong the rims, and how all 4 actually were bent not only the 1 that was very obvious. He explained how and why, all about the tires and how the machine and process works etc. I already knew 3 of them had issues, so I wasn't surprised to hear all 4 needed repair. He got to work immediately as soon as I said to have at it, and we spoke and he was happy to explain to me while he was working how and why he was doing the things he was doing it. My wheels came out PERFECT, and he gives you the paperwork from the machine to prove it and then goes over the paperwork with you and explains everything in full detail. All in all the job took 4.5 hours because it's intricate and he doesn't rush it and does it correctly the first time. Derek is an artist and a perfectionist and truly someone you can trust with your car and your wheels. My car runs smoother than it has ever ran before and I couldn't be happier, I highly recommend anyone and everyone to go to The Wheel Doctor for anything tire and rim related! read more

More like the wheel whisperer. All I can say, is do not even hesitate a split second bringing your car to Derek to work on your wheels. I have a 2016 Jaguar XJR that has always had a minor "vibration" in the steering wheel at speeds over 60 since I bought it. I have brought the car to the dealer multiple times and they finally came back and said that the wheel was dented. They "fixed it" and guess what? Yep, still had a minor shake. Brought it back and they fixed it again. Their repair? Inflate my left front tire close to 50 lbs PSI. About a month ago, I hit the trifecta of potholes while getting onto the Rockland bound Tappan Zee bridge. The minor wheel tremble turned into a bad shake. There was no way I was going back to the dealer to get a fluff repair. I did a little research on the web and found The Wheel Doctor. Sure I was apprehensive, as it is in a off beat section of Yonkers. But, after my conversations with Derek and his wife in setting up an appointment I felt reassured that this was the right choice. The day comes for me to drop my car off and I finally meet Derek. The man is passionate in his work. He takes the time to explain what he will do from how he will Road Force Balance my wheels to the procedure of getting the 21 dents out of my left wheels. Yes, thats right. A total of 21 dents between the two left wheels. And Derek got them all out and the car drives like it just came off the showroom floor. He also took the time to show me the before and after test results from balancing equipment. Is it cheap? not really in comparison of whats out there, but cheaper than what my dealer charged for a bad repair and if you want it done right, The Wheel Doctor is your only option if you want it actually repaired correctly. read more

I don't normally write glowing reviews (I'm generally a negative person who likes to complain about every little thing wrong with a business) but this one is warranted. This shop is amazing. Derek is friendly, knowledgeable and seems to love what he does. Unlike other wheel shops that do not know how to properly use a Hunter Road Force machine, it is obvious he does. The shop is clean and has top end equipment. Visited initially a few months ago, had a nasty wheel vibration which turned out to be a poorly machined refinished wheel that I got from an insurance claim. Even after initially Road Force balancing the wheel at a different shop, there was no difference. Looking for a wheel repair shop, it led me here. Derek indicated that this wheel could not be fixed, but believes he can make it much better. Lo behold, he got it down to 29 lbs of road force, and drastically reduced vibration of the wheel to the point where I can live with it. Fast forward to a few days ago, hit a nasty pothole which coincidentally bubbled the tire and ruined the "bad" wheel. Got a replacement used wheel off craigslist with new tire which was also bent (argh!). At least it was cheap. Took it back to Derek, who indicated it was bent in multiple spots and showed me the printout which confirmed the problem and got to work. Got the wheel down to 0.018" Radial TIR. Before the repair was 0.196". The level of detail that goes into his work with absolutely nothing to hide is why I would go out of my way to visit his shop for all my wheel repair needs. Hopefully, I won't need to, but living in NYC it's about as certain as death and taxes! Pricing is very reasonable and they take credit cards. edited for grammar. read more

I hit a pothole on a Thursday morning and realized my ride was off. After looking under the car i could visually see a bent rim on my new 1 month old BMW. After calling the dealer I was told a new rim would cost $433. After a google search, I found the wheel doctor and called them Friday, the next day. They were very nice, informative and went above and beyond to accommodate me the very same day by staying late to inspect and fix my wheels. They worked on my car from 7-930pm on a Friday night!! After Derek inspected my vehicle, he found and showed me two bent rims as a result of the pothole impact. He digitally measured the damage using high tech machines and was able to show me numerically what the damage was. After he finished repairing my wheels, he ran the same test to show me that numerically that the rims were not only round, but rounder then they come out of the factory. He then printed before and after readings to show me that the wheel repair was very successful. I spent the entire time watching and talking to Derek as he worked on my wheels. I have never seen anyone take so much pride in their work and have a true genuine passion for their work. Derek is an artist and really touched me with his passion, pride and professionalism. He inspired me so much that I am posting this review on every review page for The Wheel Doctor.. and I NEVER take the time to write reviews for anyone. Highly recommend The Wheel Doctor to ANYONE and EVERYONE. Don't let any car dealer talk you into buying new rims, Derek will repair them BETTER then new at a fraction of the cost. read more

It all started when I was getting vibrations from th car... I called up Derek, mentioned to him that I needed someone to take a look at my wheels and he mentioned he'd look at them and preferred to work via appointments. After back and forth we agreed on a good time for both of us and brought my car into the shop. I noticed Derek had plenty of gear to fix anything wheel related, so immediately I knew I brought the car to the correct shop. Derek explained to me his fees and we proceeded with the diagnostics and eventually repairs. It went like this: you get a readings from one of his machines that determines if it needs fixing and Derek works his magic and fixes it and reruns the machine. When it's all set and done, machine says you are clear and when I drove off the shop, vibrations were gone. At The Wheel Doctor, I was able to walk underneath the vehicle and take a look at the different jobs others have done at balancing my wheels. Also, got to see Derek perform some of his work and was able to ask him questions and he provided feedback. We even get into some heated technological debates about car. I was not asked to leave a review, however I felt like Derek's work deserves to be recognized. At the end of the day you get what you pay for and this is true with The Wheel Doctor. Thanks Derek! I meant to write this review for a while now, but just never had the chance. And I'm only stating that fact because i want people to understand just how professional the service you receive here is. I could have just left it alone months later, but Derek was so understanding and helpful that months later the service i received is still on my mind. Because my dealership was unhelpful in finding the cause of my rubbing/grinding sound I decided to take my car to the Wheel Doctor to see if my rims were that badly bent. Derek squeezed me in for an afternoon appointment on the same day I called, and when I arrived i was not disappointed. He put my car on the lift and in 2 minutes found a problem that the dealership spent an hour misdiagnosing. I needed a new wheel bearing and Derek offered me the name of a good shop where i could get my problem fixed. Many shops in his position would have straightened my rims as requested and i would have been stuck with the same problem and less money to fix it. Derek, however, said I should wait to get my real problem fixed and then if my bent rim was still bothering me, he would gladly fix it. The service was offered free of charge and he even offered me a peace of rum cake while we discussed my options! I will definitely be sending business his way and coming back when I'm ready to do my rim work. read more

It was an absolute pleasure to have been a customer. I am very particular when it comes to who I allow to work on my car. I read the reviews prior to visiting the shop and decided to visit due to the great reviews I read. Words cannot express the experience I had at the shop from start to finish but I will do my best. Derek is a true gentleman and professional. From the first interaction you have with him, you will know that you are in the right hands. He is very knowledgeable and treats his customers with the utmost respect. He does not shy away from answering any of your questions no matter how long it takes for you to understand what he is telling you. Derek takes the time to educate you about wheels and you leave the shop wiser than how you came in. I mounted 4 new tires onto my wheels and also had to repair all 4 of the wheels because they were bent. Derek did an excellent job of repairing the wheels, mounting the new tires, and balancing the new tires. He was able to catch a couple of errors made by previous installers I visited and was able to correct them for me. My car rides better from when I first purchased it. Yes, I know this is repeated in the reviews but it hold true for me as well. The car slices down the road like a hot knife through butter. From the moment I called Natasha - I knew I was in for a treat. A pleasant, courteous and professional interaction. I made my appointment for the next day. My welcome to NY was 4 bent rims, 1 blowout and 2 wheels with bubbles. Thank you NY. When I showed up for my appointment, 45 minutes early, I waited in the office while Derek finished up with a customer. I had no idea what I was in for.....nothing but goodness! There is a basic principle that I ascribe to - whatever you do, do it well, to the best of your abilities, and better than anyone else. Derek is the embodiment of that very principle. He is extremely meticulous and thorough. He provides the care for your car that you would or more - as if it were his own. That kind of accountability and ownership, let me know my rims were in the right hands. The passion he has for what he does shines through and is palatable in his enthusiasm even after spending several hours rounding all 4 of my rims to true - beyond factory tolerances! I've had wheels balanced a half a dozen times and no matter where I went, Firestone, Mavis, etc. it was hit or miss as far as if my car would run smooth after the job was done. This time, I learned there is a wheel balancer called Road Force by Hunter. I learned there are a select few shops in my area that have one of these machines, and of those, they either couldn't provide a printout, never used the printer feature before, or the shop had bad reviews from others. The Wheel Doctors had nothing by rave reviews. I showed up at my appointment time with my new tires in-hand. Derick was unable to get the tires I wanted due to being out of stock. Derick thoroughly inspected my tires before mounting, and actually found a potential defect, only to be confirmed later by the Road Force. Derick took me through every step of how the Road Force worked while my wheels were being mounted and balanced. Tires even had to be readjusted on the rim as a result of the Road Force's precise calculations. The end result...a more than satisfied customer...with a car that ran smoother than the day I bought it new out of the showroom! This is my "go-to" location when I need wheels balanced! read more

Derek is an artist. He is the antithesis the typical tire shop hacks you'll inevitably run into in the tri-state are. I'm outright OCD when it comes to my cars, I know my stuff, and I do pretty much all my own work. Why? Partially because I enjoy it, but mostly because I don't trust anyone with my cars. And for good reason. Unfortunately, there are certain things I can't do myself, due to lack of space, the right equipment and certain skills. One of those things is wheel/tire repair and balancing. This is where Derek steps in. He has most up-to-date Hunter equipment, the passion for cars, and the skill to do things right. Bottom line, he won't destroy your jack points by putting your car on a lift incorrectly/haphazardly. He won't bang up your wheels when dismounting tires due to laziness and outdated equipment. He won't compromise your tires by not reverse mounting them when it's clearly necessary. He won't over torque your lugs and compromise your wheel studs because he's too lazy to use a torque wrench and decides to hammer them on with an impact. What he WILL do, on the other hand, is take his time, and solve your wheel/tire issues the right way. read more

This is one of those places that once you use, you never go back. Just like all the other reviews on here, I have had nothing but an amazing experience here. I have chrome 20 inch rims and I am very meticulous about my car. I was referred here by a friend to get 4 new tires installed. Other shops I've seen scratch rims daily and just don't care. Wheel DR installed my tires without a scratch because he has expensive machines to do the work safely. He also has a special machine for balancing wheels that was unlike anything i have ever seen. A fake like, road comes down on the wheel and reads all sorts of data that gives the wheel a near perfect balance. You don't realize how amazing the difference is in the balancing until you leave and your car feels butter smooth. All vibration gone. I brought my GF's Mercedes here and that car was smooth from the get go but after getting the balancing here it rides even better like you're on a cloud. First off, when I walked in, you enter right into the garage. And its clean. Its nice. And you can tell right off the bat, the equipment is all top notch. I went in with a bent rim, which turned into a cracked rim. I asked about replacing it, but instead Derek told me he could fix it and would guarantee his work. After the process, the best looking part of the rim is where he worked - never seen better work done with more pride in my life. He also tested all my other wheels and found small issues and balanced them out for me. All in all, not cheap, but totally worth every penny. I left in a ride that hasn't driven that smooth since the day I bought it. I recommend The Wheel Doctor to anyone who needs wheel work done. I might even go back to him once a year just to have him balance out the tires since I have never seen anyone take the care and pride he did. Nor have I ever seen anyone do as good of a job as him. I purchased a set of aftermarket rims and tires for my 2017 BMW x4m40i about 3 years ago. After some time they developed curb rash and I sent them out to be refinished. I received them back in very nice condition balanced and mounted by Concept 2000 in the Bronx, only to have them rebalanced 3 more times, to no avail . I looked up The Wheel Doctor and decided to give them a try. After arriving to the shop, first thing in the morning, I consulted with Derrick and he went thru the dynamics of tire balancing in great detail. I said to myself, this kid sounds like he knows something. I sat and watched him do his thing. Only then, while listening to his beats, I asked his age and realized he was no kid at all! We had great conversation and realized how knowledgeable he was. As for my rim and tire issues, problem solved and would not recommend any company but his. Stumbled across this site looking to get a cracked rim repaired, saw the reviews and decided to call. When I called the shop was at the point of closing, greeted by his wife who was very friendly, engaging and attentive. She sensed that I was in distress and told me to come in right a way, she even gave me directions to get there quicker. As soon as I walked in I could feel the level of professionalism. Once he diagnosed the problem he called me out to see the damage to my rims. As he explained the work that needed to be done, I began to panic. I'm saying to myself he's never going to be able to do this work today, however to my surprise he gave me a timeframe and went to work. After completing the job he educated me on the work he had done and the improvement/quality of the ride that I should feel immediately. Derrick is gracious, knowledgable and the embodiment of the patience necessary to get the job done right. Natasha is an accomodating and pleasant host. Whether you want to watch a movie in the office or watch Derrick perform his magic, you will be happy when you leave. He spent 6 hours getting my wheels and tires just right... and taught me everything along the way. Bent wheels... straightened. Crack found... crack fixed. My car has never felt so buttery smooth. And the best part is Derrick is the kind of guy you'd want to have a beer with, if he wasn't so busy working through lunch to set your tires and wheels up as perfect as they can be (wheels ot of round by less that 0.01 at all four corners well below manufacturer's 0.03 recommendation; and TIR down by 35%-75%). read more

I found this place on Goggle and can say it was one of the most pleasant experiences I have had with an auto service company. Derrick is a guy who has a passion for his work and he provides his customers with professional and courteous service. My 2014 Mazda 6 Grand Touring with 19" rims took a beating on the Palisades Parkway this winter and all four rims had varying degrees of damage. Derrick evaluated the rims with an impressive array of Hunter equipment and was able to just balance one rim to better than factory specs, however the other three were really bad. His attention to detail is impeccable and I was impressed to watch him work his craft. All three rims were returned to better than factory specs and my car drives as it did when I bought it new. I stumbled across this website and saw they were close to me. I looked up the reviews for them and was impressed. I made an appointment and was greeted by Derek and I found out later his wife as they were shoveling out the driveway. Once I got in I was treated in a friendly manner. Unfortunately I also needed a tire with my wheel straightening. Derek's wife got on the phone and ordered the same exact tire. Derek explained all the steps he does and why. Long story short, I am very happy. I will recommend The Wheel Doctor to anyone I can. I was made to feel like family If I could give them 7 stars I would. No alignments, but he can recommend. P.S. These guys are good! I bought some winter tires and wheels and was struggling on if I should install them myself or let a shop does it (read too many forum posts about people in shops over tightening lug nuts). Found this place on tirerack.com, it's close by where I live and seems to have flying reviews so thought would give them a try. They are real pros, best equipment and paid attention on very things. They take time to hand tighten each lug nuts, check tires' pressure, helped me to reset the pressure monitor, helped me to wrap my summer wheels up nice and cleanly and load them in my car. I will just keep coming back here for my tires and wheels needs. If someone this good is doing the job why lift my own fingers :) P.S. wow they even called the next day to make sure everything is ok!
