Great food truck in Springfield, and may be the best tacos I've had in the area! They have a bit of outside seating underneath a small canopy in case you'd like to relax when the weather is nice, but I took my order to-go. I had the sweet steak tacos, with a "3" spice level, and a side of guacamole (order comes with chips and two small corn tortillas for a total of ~$10). Pretty solid portion size, and the flavor was great. I liked the Mexican cheese and good quality meat. I would definitely get these again, but they have quite a few unique fusion combinations that I'd like to try on another visit. The Wheelhouse website and online ordering can be a bit tricky to manage, so you may encounter some issues. However, the food was made quickly, I received a text confirmation, and it was ready for pickup in about 30 minutes. This is such an unexpected place- it's inside a hotel and has bits of Thai, Korean, and Mexican food. I had the drunken noodles with shrimp, which were pretty tasty but could have used more heat and veggies. My coworker had the kimchi fried rice and loved it. The expression is it's "within your wheelhouse", neaning your speciality that your particularly good at. So when I saw they served Thai and Mexican. I should've known better. The single worst facsimile of pad Thai I have ever tasted. Unfortunately I run into that a lot in this town they are tons of restaurants but none of them are very good. I am not sure what the sauce was but it definitely wasn't pad Thai. And I have never tasted so much lime in my life. It was like eating lime noodles, bland, spice-less, no heat what so ever. The Wheelhouse is a counter-service restaurant on the ground floor of the Vīb hotel at Sunshine and Glenstone. The interior is bright, modern, and casual with plentiful seating, large windows, and airy high ceilings. A welcome addition to Springfield's somewhat lacking vegetarian restaurant scene, this is one of the few places in town with a variety of vegan offerings. I had the vegan drunken noodles, my husband had the chicken pad Thai, and my daughter had the orange chicken which was on special. All the dishes were well-prepared, served piping hot, and were lovely and flavorful. A word of caution: they ask you to specify a heat level between one and five for your meal. I chose two and it was almost too hot. So maybe start with a one and work your way up. Also, the large portion of noodles is **large.** This is also a nice place to have coffee. We had an iced caramel latte that had plentiful whipped cream over coffee that was nice and strong. They had desserts in a case but we didn't try them. The staff was pleasant and efficient. Finally, follow them on Instagram! They have a great presence there and you can find out more about daily specials and such. I ate here for the first time last week. The peanut butter chicken tacos were great. The tortilla chips were hard as rocks and oversalted, so I couldn't eat them. I ordered the same meal today, and was extremely disappointed. The peanut butter chicken tacos were served with a small container of the peanut butter sauce on the side, and it was like water. Awesome food! And fun atmosphere at the Vib Hotel. We are from North Carolina and were stopping through Springfield on the way to Table Rock Lake for our family vacation. Saw the reviews and thought this would be perfect since my husband loves Mexican food and I love Thai food. We had Peanut Chicken Tacos, Pineapple Fried Rice with chicken, and Drunken Noodles with local pork. All was delicious; we shared family style with our 8,3,and 1 year old boys. Portions were generous, prices were great, and all 5 of us left happy and full. What a lucky find! I would come back in a heartbeat, if only I didn't live halfway across the country! Chose to eat here for my birthday based on some nice reviews online, it's oddly casual for a hotel restaurant... we sat at the bar- right next to the ordering counter and the waitress who took our order and she couldn't find us but when she did she had the appetizer and main dishes with her...I ordered the Wheelhouse Pad Thai which sounded amazing on the menu but on the plate - not so much... the tofu was crispy and Maple tasting on the outside (which was great) but the inside tasted like the tofu had not been properly dried. I am usually a cilantro fan but it tasted like soap in my food. My fiancé couldn't finish his food. And the orange infused water just tasted like the Rhine of an orange.... won't be going back... read more

Located on the first floor of hotel Vib, The Wheelhouse is an asian fusion place from what I could see on the menu. I had the kimchi falafels, which I thought was pretty delicious. But their kimchi tasted off, and had a weird aftertaste. Their black bean dip is amazing! Lots of vegan and gluten free options, would come again to try other items if I had a friend that couldn't eat gluten or animals products. Other than that, not really that memorable to me. read more

I was down in Springfield for work staying at the Vīb hotel. I thought, looks okay, maybe I will grab a bite. Two weeks later and I have had the chips and bean dip almost daily. The Kombucha on tap is beyond amazing! I suggest lavender, but they are all good! The fish tacos are delicious, I do wish they were grilled, but either way, they are delicious. Chicken peanut burrito bowl is the best and the vegan (cauliflower) wings are addicting.

I've eaten here before and it was good but tonight was extremely disappointing. I ordered drunken noodles and it was completely inedible. The flavor was bitter and chemical. The whole dish tasted so strongly of anise that the other flavors were drowned out. Worst of all, the chicken was just dry, shredded chicken dumped on top with no sauce or anything. I would still cautiously recommend this place but whatever you do, don't get this dish. The Wheelhouse is one of the best kept open secrets in the SGF. Those of us who know how awesome this place is continue to come back time and time again, and I always talk it up with friends and family. The Wheelhouse is now located in the VIB hotel, right in the lobby. They have a wonderful set up and they now serve alcohol. We often like to grab our food to go and eat at home. Some of my favorite things on the menu are the falafel appetizer, all of the burritos, the drunken noodles, and the pineapple fried rice. My go-to is the pineapple fried rice with the beef. I like that you can kick the spice up on a scale to 1-5, and my comfortable/happy spice place is like a 3. Be warned: the portions on the rice are huge. I got the large portion the last time we stopped by and I was able to get a dinner, a breakfast (don't judge), and a lunch out of it. My husband loves the burritos and the large burritos are giant, like small baby-sized giant. The noodles were over cooked and all clumped together it al turned into a huge piece if dough, the noodles are not regular length either, overwhelming taste of Thai basil The Thai basil chicken was way to crispy the sauce was good but the chicken was left in to fry for too long. Where is the Kimchi? Tasted nothing like kimchi The orange chicken is Katsu chicken with what taste like a generic store bought sauce my son immediately said the name of the store brand sauce we get at the H-Mart. If you have an experienced pallet , avoid it. You will compare it to everything good you've had and the past and it will not live up to the hipe. This "fusion" had to work at some point to make it to a hotel lobby. Sweet people and good food! Pineapple fried rice with chicken was a super-sized portion. I got mine 5/5 on the spicy level...it was hot, I would probably try 3/4 next time. The Peanut Chicken Burrito got moderate reviews. Hubby said it could have used more lettuce and rice. I am sure they would make it however you want...but this was our first visit. Kids enjoyed their cheese quesadillas, chips, salsa, and guacamole. Glad I talked my boys into trying something new and off the beaten path on our way to T-Town. It was a fight b/c of the rainy weather, but to our surprise the Wheelhouse not only boasts a kid friendly outdoor eating area, but a simplistic indoor dining area with a restroom. Delicious. And the portions are out of control...so have a big appetite or bring a friend. It's my personal mission to try every food truck in this town, but I have eaten here more times that I can count. Not too many places offer peanut chicken or falafel or tofu as a standard protein option, but the Wheelhouse does. It's a great place if you are vegetarian or an adventurous eater. You can also customize the heat level on a lot of their dishes--I hover around a three or four for most things. There are large square patio tables with umbrellas--almost too large of tables. You can easily sit 8 at each one with a lot of elbow room, so you will make friends if it's crowded. Plus there is a tropical sno truck right next to it at the moment, so there will be sugared up children running around. Keep a tight eye on the Wheelhouse's Facebook page. They are great about advertising their specials (and they are super creative). Be sure and try the kimchi fried rice--they don't have it very often, but it's great. it's their pineapple fried rice mixed with house made kimchi. I usually get it with tofu but I've had it with steak and chicken too. Even a small size is at least two meals! read more

They did not taste like your typical Thai dishes so I'm guessing that is the fusion part - ie chicken is shredded like you'd have in a burrito. It was still very tasty - just maybe not the flavor I was expecting. Also, I asked for a 2 on the spice level - I'm used to much spicier even at a 2... Today, I came in and had the pad Thai with chicken and my girlfriend had the pineapple fried rice. The fried rice was actually pretty good, but on the other hand the damn pad Thai was horrendous. The sauce that they had on the pad Thai took away the flavor of the noodles and chicken because it was overly drenched in the sauce. This is to the workers, next time you serve the pad Thai, ease down on the sauce and then it would actually be good. We also had the kimchi fries which was not that bad. I was in town for work and The Wheelhouse looked like a cool alternative to the burger heavy other Springfield options. This place is AWESOME! The portions are huge (I got two single servings and it was... a lot of food). Dishes are between $6.50-9 for a single serving (I did veg for both) and are packed with flavor. What a surprising selection and some nice vegan and vegetarian choices on a large meat eaters menu. Every body in your party will have lots of choices. There are no photos because I ordered delivery and it is never pretty. But it did arrive hot and tasty, exactly as I ordered. I had vegetable tacos which were fabulous though the hand made tortillas don't travel well. Chips and salsa were generous and tasty.
