If you're looking for an elegant seafood spot in Westport, the Whelk was a great spot we recently checked out! All the seafood was fresh! The interior is very clean and sophisticated with bright lighting. I felt the risotto was a little too heavy on the acidity but the scallops were cooked perfectly and paired well with the risotto! Our server was very nice as well!

We were so happy to grab a spot at the bar for an impromptu date night tonight and were thrilled to meet the incredible bartender Nico who made the most amazing cocktails. We've always loved The Whelk but it's a gift to have such exceptional service AND amazing drinks, thank you Nico!

Came here for a light early dinner. We had the place to ourselves. Nicole was our server she was awesome. They have a happy hour , kind of limited but you can find something on there. We ordered a half dozen oysters . Happy hour special $1.50 each . Right behind were the roasted oysters and crab toast. I wish the portions were bigger for both . Lol the kimchi butter on those oysters soooo bomb! Crab toast was so good too. Last on the spread we ordered the deviled eggs/fried oysters. Those were great too. Overall we had a great experience. Gonna try the pasta on my return date.

We made reservations for outdoor dining on a Friday night. Indoors were packed and the outside area was also pretty full. They have heat lamps spread out, so on a colder night it is not too bad, but you should still dress warmly. Our waiter was very attentive and enthusiastic about everything we ordered. We started with cocktails and a dozen oysters (local and Massachusetts). The oysters were well shucked and clean and come with 3 different mignonettes. We then had the burrata and the smoked trout dip. Both excellent. The burrata could have come with a few more slices of bread. Then we had the halibut and octopus. The halibut was skinless but seared enough to have a crisp edge. The butternut squash purée had a slight kick to it that was surprising and tasty. The octopus was cooked well and was well seasoned and tender. It came with some sort of Mayo sauce that I think was unnecessary and made the dish heavier. Cocktails were all excellent and we were too full to try dessert. They automatically include a 20% service charge, which was well deserved. Would recommend.

Upscale seafood restaurant serving fresh, local ingredients that even non-seafood lovers can enjoy. The staff flawlessly accommodated our party of eight on a busy Friday night. We started with the brussel sprouts and deviled eggs with fried oysters: the brussel sprouts were perfectly roasted and starved steaming hot. The oysters were perfectly cooked, lightly fried and nicely contrasted by the flavor of picked onion. The fried chicken sandwich was delicious however we thought it was lacking the pimento cheese flavor as described on the menu. The burger was also perfectly cooked, juicy, and paired with shoestring fries. I have to add, we were impressed by the beautiful cutlery served with our burger and chicken sandwiches. As someone who does not eat any (and I mean zero) seafood, there were many menu offerings that I found delicious and I would look forward to going back and having again. Not pictured : the basket of fries was enormous - even our party of eight couldn't finish it! We also loved the chocolate pot de creme dessert!

Very nice cool chic casual vibe along the river in Westport. A smart casual mature crowd at the bar and adjoining tables. Food at the bar is trendy, hip and excellent. Prices are fairly high, but in line with the clientele. Nice outdoor seating.

Not much of a lobster & crab roll for 26 bucks. Badly overpriced. BTW they rarely have whelks, despite their name. Avoid this place!

Fun atmosphere, great food, fairly limited selection of entrees. Very busy on Saturday nights so expect to wait even with a reservation.

There was street parking when we got there but they also have valet and some self parking in the back. As we walked in, the ladies at the host stand were so warm and inviting. They were also the cutest ever. They encouraged us to sit out on the patio versus the bar so we headed upstairs. Our waitress came over with menus and it went downhill from there. She was so inattentive that we had to ask the other waiter for things we needed. He was engaging, checked on us and we even chatted about his Jordanian heritage and my trip there back in December. Our actual waitress, however, checked on the table next to us 6 times (yes I counted) in between her checking on us. Even when I ordered a mocktail, I guess they didn't have the one I wanted so she brought me an entirely different drink without asking me. Then got upset when I didn't want it. The absolute audacity. As far as the food, we got the crab cake, lamb, whipped mashed potatoes and the bread. The food was good but the bread took it to another level. It should have been complimentary though but that's neither here nor there. Overall, loved the experience but wish we had another waitress. She didn't even acknowledge my friend's birthday. Sigh.

Other than that, I'd definitely dine here again!

On the other side of the dinning room is a full bar that has a nice vibe to it as well. There is a big patio (this is where we sat) and tables on the closed off street. Great outdoor space. As for the food, it was alright. I had the Ahi Tuna Bowl. Flavor wise it was pretty good. The tuna was good and fresh and the avocado was perfectly ripe. It came with so much (almost too much) shaved carrot and radish on the top. I felt like I had to eat through all of that to even get to the tuna, rice, and avocado. The sushi rice that is on the bottom of the bowl was very soggy and almost mushy. Servers were nice. Had to ask for the check after a long wait once our food plates were cleared from the table, maybe 20 minutes.

Staff is very friendly, pleasant and accommodating. Rizzutos is one of the few places (3 in my area) around Connecticut that does igloos for the winter and then canopy tents in the summer! This is great if you're looking for that added privacy and special touch to your dining experience. The inside is also lovely as you'll be able to dine by a wonderful fireplace that definitely feels amazing during these cold northeast winters. One recent addition that I think is amazing and what brought me in this last time is their seasonal four-course menus! For like $30 you get a four course meal! Such a great price for the experience. The portions are samplings so not TOO large portions but with the amount of courses you will get comfortably full.

We had a 1pm reservation on Sunday. We requested to sit outside in one of the tents. The area was not clean and I asked if they could come and sweep it. It was ignored! There was food, and napkins, and all other kinds of stuff on the ground underneath the table, including french fries with ants, crawling all over them. The service was very slow. We actually thought that we were being ignored and I was ready to go inside to see whether or not they were going to take our order. I ordered the crabcake brunch, which was actually smaller than the crabcake appetizer that someone else ordered. The portion was small, compared to the price. The food was OK. The service was slow, and I was disappointed that they were not a little more concerned about the cleanliness and atmosphere outside. I have been coming here for years, and it was always a Special place to visit, but not so much anymore. If there was a manager present; they should have been more concerned about presentation and cleanliness. What a shame!!
