Its my friend's birthday, we were bar hopping & I was walking towards the entrance and was about to show my ID, and this group of "PR" saw my gay friends from a distance walking towards me and one of the guys said "oh theyre gay" and they all started laughing. I had to pull my friends away from the bar & didnt even bother telling them cuz I didnt wanna ruin the vibe. But its just sad that this still happens, especially in New York. I LOVE this bar. I came with two friends this past Saturday night around 9pm. It was crowded, but we were lucky enough to get 3 adjacent seats at the bar within 10 minutes of arriving. We were then served by one of the best bartenders I have ever had named Ash. He was so kind and funny and served us three huge, EXCELLENT spicy margaritas and was kind enough to give me ample limes (I love limes). I would rate the whiskey Brooklyn three and a half stars. There wasn't a wide variety of craft beers available. The focus was on non-craft and adjunct beers. The bartenders were really quick and were diplomatic about helping people despite how packed the bar was. They have plenty of televisions around the bar, so patrons can catch the game no matter where they stand in the bar. The bar was two table shuffleboards and a few arcade games including skeeball and basketball. Unfortunately, the arcade games are not complimentary. read more

The Whiskey saved the day for New Years Eve! Since we were told at at 9:45 that we would not get into Berry Park ( a friggin joke - considering it's Brooklyn ) another plan of action was quickly needed. I had just been walking by The Whiskey and saw that there was no line and no cover charge to get in! We had a winner! Our whole crew jumped over to here and we had a kick ass New Years party! Not overly crowded, DJ spinning great tunes all night, video game room to enjoy, fun considerate crowd, and flat screens everywhere. Even better, is that they did not raise beer and drink prices at all for New Years Eve! Beer and a shot for $10, pints at the normal $5 - $7 range, and the bartenders were all quick and friendly. My friend is a huge fan of pickle-back shots, so he chose Whiskey Brooklyn to celebrate his dirty-thirty (it only seems fitting, amiright?). He invited a group of 20 of us, each of us came during different times. I was running 35 minutes late--and was afraid they'll take all the shots without me, but obviously the goal is to buy another round of pickle-backs to get everyone lit. By the time I got to Whiskey Brooklyn, a few of my friends were standing outside, including the birthday boy, SOBER. Huh? I thought they wanted to chill outside, but found out two of the men in the group were denied entry because of what they were wearing. One of them, who have been there over 10 times, was wearing basketball shorts and a pair of Adidas boost, and he always got in just fine with that attire. Last night, he was denied. Another friend was wearing Yeezy pants and casual walking-sneaker-shoes (okay, this isn't the real category for this type of shoe, but you know ... shoes that look like Keds), and he was denied also because his pants were "too athletic." I also want to note our group of friends is Asian, and we see other people, not of Asian descent, get in with jeans, t-shirt, and sneakers. I spent the entire morning going through their album, and it looks like women wearing sweatshirts with holes in their jeans and sneakers is fine, but when it comes to us last night, there was an exception. I do not understand it. This type of profiling/discrimination is wrong. I will not support this type of behavior, and thus, I left with the guys and a girl who also didn't want to support this establishment. Whiskey Tavern in Chinatown, Manhattan is so much fun and they're really nice to everyone in the community. I'm shocked/sad to see this place so different from WT. If there is a dress code for Whiskey Brooklyn, then management should really change the dress code on Yelp to reflect "dressy" instead of "casual." The environment itself is a casual place, so why give people who are willing to spend money at your sports bar a hard time? I spent almost two years of my life working in restaurants and I understand how hard it is to make/keep business. I hope management will take note of this and make real change. read more

Wow. So Yelp tells me this is the only place in the area with the kitchen open late. So I show up with my 4 friends to come down here and have a burger as thier website had a decent menu and kitchen was confirmed open late. Now the man at the door (when I asked for his name he refused and said he would only tell me his name is security) would not let us in because "The owners have a policy of any group of three or more males to not be serviced." I was shocked and disgusted because it was pretty clear what he was trying to say. I don't know if this is an anti-gay thing or just an anti-minority thing but I am very offended. The security guard would not tell me his name. I gave him the benefit of the doubt as he was just doing his job which I understand. However their website states that "ONE OWNER IS ALWAYS THERE!" And when I asked to speak to an owner of manager he refused. I highly doubt that in 2016 this place does not have a manager on the premise. There's way too many restaurants in the Brooklyn to be having to be dealing with this type of segregation and behavior. They do not deserve anyone's business because that is absolutely absurd to have such segregation policies for your establishment. STAY AWAY!!! Next morning UPDATE --- so I call up the "manager" Joel to let him know. I ask him does he ever read the Yelp reviews? and he tells me "No. I don't read them because people make stuff up". The name says it all. We went here after the Brooklyn Yelp event. It was literally next door to Mables and could fit us all. It was really spacious. There are video games and shuffleboard, even a photobooth. I was still the designated yelper so I was only sipping on water. The food wasn't that bad. I had the craving for tacos and fried pickles. YES they had both of them. What was funny is that they have "Little Hot Dogs". We were expecting pigs in a blanket type hot dogs. We got the total opposite. 2 regular sized hot dogs in a bun that were cut in half. They were good, but now what we were expecting. This is a great hangout spot if your in the area. It's in a basement so watch your step if you have already been drinking... I won't say who, but you know who you are. read more

I came here on a Friday afternoon not realizing that the Brooklyn Brewery only opens earlier on Weekends (apparently my days off don't count as weekends *shrugs*). So with a friend from out of town in tow we made our way down the block to the nearest happy hour sign...and what a sign it was "$10 dollar lunch with drink" sold! We enter into a labyrinth of stairs headed to a dungeon with neon signs lighting the way into what's actually a very large space that would be rather dimly lit if it weren't for so many HD TVs at every turn. This is a sports enthusiasts paradise. My friend and I had a tv to ourselves for my French football preferences and every table around the bar had it's own communal game space. We selected connect 4 as we threw back beers. Oh yeah, back to the food... so the $10 lunch was a burger option, regular or veggie (nice) with either a beer, a whiskey drink, or something else but I completely ignored the special when I saw the perplexing sounding Vegan Whiskey Rib ($15 with a side) sandwich...i was curious and jumped at it blowing my cheap get me in the door budget out the window. It was better than I imagined it could be. It was rather tasty and I'd order it again on a $10 budget. All in all this is a great space. I'll check it out again with more friends and probably get some jenga going. read more

Short review: skip it. They're too big for their britches. Plenty of other fish in the Williamsburg bar sea. Two friends and I were looking to grab a drink after a show last night and figured we'd go here since every other bar was packed and it never is. I'd been there several times before (never my choice, just with groups). It's reliably pretty empty, probably since it's mediocre at best all around. It was a Wednesday and as usual, nearly empty. As we walked to the door, a gentleman came out who seemed to be some kind of bouncer. He took my first friend's ID and seemed fine. My other friend has a passport, which seemed to give the bouncer pause and confuse him. He took it, looked at it, and said "sorry, not tonight guys." I was fishing out my ID (since I didn't think I needed to have it ready to enter a basic bar as a 33 year old on a Wednesday night) and wasn't really paying attention, so I thought I misheard him and handed it to him. Again he said "no, no, not tonight." I didn't know what that meant. Why not tonight? Was there a private party? I don't think so. If there was, why would he even humor us and take IDs? What about tomorrow night? I have never been rejected from a bar, so was pretty appalled and confused. We left and went elsewhere to a place that did not reject us for no reason. Again, this place is basic and only a good choice because there is usually space. My questions are: 1. Why do they have a bouncer on a Wednesday night? 2. Why do they have a bouncer when there are hardly any people there? 3. Why are they rejecting people, business and money when the bar is empty? 4 Why did they reject people who were obviously of age and not drunk/belligerent? Pretty cool dive. We went on a night where it wasn't overly busy so drink waits were short and we had a table. I was also able to charge my phone on a handy wall outlet which was great because my friend and I were having a lot of fun messing around on the Boomerang app. The music was interesting, mostly 90s with a mix of today's Top 40, but it wasn't the mix it was more so the song order that was strange. Either way the place is well-staffed and attentive as well. They have a fairly good drink menu for those of us that are not so keen on the whiskey, but have tons if that's your things. They do have games in the basement, which is where we were seated. A lot of people crowd around them which made manuerving to and from the background slightly tricky. read more

My friends and I always come to Whiskey for a good, fun night out. The place is always packed, but it never takes an excessive amount of time to get a drink, and the drink prices are extremely reasonable. They have a dj who plays an array of music, but doesn't really accept song requests which is a bit weird. They also have many security guards outside in front of the bar as well as inside, so any issue that may occur will definitely be taken care of, and safety isn't an issue with the crowd that is there. I came here on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday party. God was this place packed. And by packed, I mean it was so crowded I thought it was a free open bar event or something. And everyone here was young. Like college-aged young. I swear I was reliving my youth at this place. Maybe it's better on other nights, but I will definitely never be returning on a Saturday night. It was so loud and crowded. I felt like an old cougar. Maybe I am an old cougar, but my days of visiting bars like this one have come to an end. The drinks were huge and $10. Was visiting my best friend who lives in the area with like 5 other friends from college, so we needed a night to go out and tear it up and Whisky Brooklyn honestly allowed that. Let's start off by saying the bartenders are so nice and also beautiful. Our drinks were so strong and not that expensive, if I recall correctly - 4 vodka waters and you'll be feeling nice. The place is also huge with an upstairs and downstairs. Upstairs is more chill with seating, and downstairs is more litty. The DJ truly killed it. From Mama Mia to throwbacks to country to some Top 40, I wanted nothing more in my life. Two very important things to note: 1. The bathroom line flows nicely. There is man directing you throughout and making sure you are quick and efficient. Like I said - important. 2. There's a PHOTO BOOTH. Lord knows I was in there multiple times per night. While gentrification has slowly crept its way throughout Brooklyn, its great to see a bar that maintains its earthy, salt-of-the-earth charm. Our crew was in need of some drinks after stuffing our faces at Smorgasburg. After wandering around aimlessly, we decided to give this place a try. This place does early boozin justice, all while giving your inner drunk kid a chance to foray their bar games. Ironically, itt doesn't hurt that their tater tot game is on point. HUGE Bar, with all these random arcade games in the bottom and a gigantic bar space. There are like 100 bartenders and a huge square bar where you can sit around. Pretty typical brooklyn bar for the area, and the drinks were actually pretty cheap (in comparison to manhattan). Not exactly anything special, the DJ could've been dropping some sicker beats tbh. Overall, a good place to go and get some drinks and hang out and yell at your friends over okay-ish music. I was recommended this place last night while I was in Williamsburg as a cool dive bar to check out. Conveniently located on N 11th and Berry it wasn't too far of a walk from the subway. We walk down the stairs and immediately immersed in a whiskey fantasy. A giant bar in the middle surrounded by booths and the best part - arcade games. We played skee ball, peer pong, and the basketball game and had a blast. Each game was a dollar which is a bit pricey but if you are drunk and want to play you're going to pay it. As for the drinks, the specials are great every night. We did the beer and pickle back shots (what they're famous for here). It was my first pickle back shot and I had to do it with whiskey considering the name of the place. I was a fan! We then ordered a pitcher of "light draft" (all other beers come in a can) and it was gross watered down miller light. However it was so cheap it was worth it. I don't come to Williamsburg often but I will absolutely be back and recommend this place to anyone! read more

For such a lovely space with such a friendly atmosphere and good drinks and attentive staff I feel I have very little choice but to call out this renegade bouncer who made my sister (the bride who we booked the party for at this location) cry. Admittedly there was no problem letting all the wedding guests in and ushering us to the downstairs bar where we had planned to continue our joyous occasion but when it came time to admit the (very obvious) bride all of a sudden the door man decided to throw a fit and deny her entry as she only had a photo of her ID and not the physical copy BECAUSE SHES THE BRIDE AND MOST WEDDING DRESSES DONT HAVE POCKETS. This individual made every aspect of her simple entry into the bar a personal slight against himself. No members of the wedding party were overly inebriated or causing any issues but this gentleman thought it appropriate to berate this bride until she cried. This caused our entire wedding party to promptly leave the establishment which assuredly none of us will return to. Truly a shameful performance by The Whiskey Brooklyn and their staff. I originally tried to go to the Brooklyn brewery to drink some beer but when I got there is about a 45 minute wait to get in. Since it was so hot out I checked yelp to see what else is around and found this place. I'm extremely glad I did! When I walked in I was able to grab a seat right away as a few people where leaving. There was a lot of good options to drink and eat so I needed a few minutes to make my choice. I started with a shot and beer. Then chatting with the bartender Ryan decided to do a Lawless flight which was good since I haven't had any of the Lawless liquor before. After the flight I had a couple of Brooklyn Beers and ordered the buffalo chicken bites. They were really good and I like that they were small little bite size which was nice! In the hour to two that I was there I encountered some amazing service from both Ryan and Tony. Not only did they do a good job of suggesting what to get but also were extremely personable. Being from out of town I was at the bar by myself and they were both super engaging the whole time. Not only would I come back for a drink but knowing that there is awesome service will make me come back next time I'm in town! read more

This bar was right next door to Brooklyn Brewery and the tasting room didn't open until 6 PM, so we had an hour to kill. They had 2 drafts on tap. Light and Dark. Very Boo! WTF!?! They had a few Brooklyn Beers (In cans), but we ordered a Summer Ale for $4 (In a can). You are twenty feet away from Brooklyn Brewery and you don't have them on tap!?! My friend ordered a red wine, it came out in a whiskey double glass. WTF!? He was taken a little off guard. The bartender took forever to bring us our bill because he was hitting on ladies around the bar. It was very odd. The basement atmosphere was kind of cool though. Deep, dark dungeon like. Come for the whiskey. Stay for the whiskey cocktails. We stumbled across this place because I foolishly didn't reserve a spot on the Brooklyn Brewery tour down the street. I was angry and hungry. Nothing satisfies my angry hunger like whiskey and chicken fingers, nothing. This place had plenty of both. There is a nice selection of good bourbon and whiskey. The food prices are pretty solid. I don't know much about the area, but it didn't seem like an expensive place. I first got the Grampa Tom's Lemonade and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed my chicken fingers, but I wish there was more of it. The meatballs were good as well. Eventually, I moved on from the lemonade and got the Kentucky Snakebite. I usually don't care for cocktails that contain with beer. However, the bartender convinced me to get it and I thought it was great. I could drink those all day long. Their cocktails look pretty simple and basic on paper, but they pretty damn delicious and strong. A solid place for good cocktails and food that is reasonably priced. read more

I don't know what it is like to spend time inside. I was admitted inside and waited for my friends to join me. Myself and one guy friend got inside. Our third friend, also male (brown skinned) was fishing for his ID (since it was cold I went inside). When he found his ID, and presented it he was asked how many drinks he'd had, and consequently refused entry. We were polite and not belligerent. I promise. The bouncer was having a very private in nature, and content, conversation on his cell phone .. which we overheard and were a little surprised at. (Texting was invented for a reason) Not sure why our one friend was refused entry. We inquired and the bouncer said "conversation over" I'd like to give this establishment the benefit of the doubt! Went here with 7 friends after a weekday night at a local bowling alley/bar. Before allowing admittance to the bar we were asked what we had done before, where we had said the bowling alley we were not allowed in "that night". After explaining that our two female friends were already guaranteed entry the security guard had checked in with the bartender who expressed homophobia and discrimination upon our levels of alcohol consumption. After this exclusive behavior, when seating ourselves at the bar, and ordering pickle backs (which mediocre) we were asked who exactly were to take these shots depending on how we looked ("your friend in the back doesn't look like they want on" when they were someone we were ordering for.). The deep fried food was delicious just as in if an tow fungus growth would be. They kept filling up my water as if my review would really review this. When asked a request on the playlist we were answered with "no because I don't think that is next that it is appropriate" when it was exactly on theme with the throw back moment. read more
