Loved it here ! Visited the downstairs bar on a recent Monday nite. The bartenders were really friendly and attentive. Drinks were great too ! Happy hour only knocks a dollar off drinks .. Despite the fact that their beer selection is just okay, I'm all for the Whiskey Brooklyn. I'm biased because the few times I've been here, it's been with great company, but I'm such a fan. The picklebacks are excellent, the whiskey selection is (obviously) great, and the bartenders + wait staff are all really friendly. The wings and fried jalapeno poppers are aces (they're hard to fuck up, but still), and there's never too long a line for skeeball or shuffleboard. Plus, when the weather is great, yes being underground kind of sucks, but do you really want to wait in the neverending line for Brooklyn Brewery that's just down the block? No chance. read more

Very decent spot for a beer or a cider to escape the hella hot Brooklyn weather. As you descend down to the basement a wall of cold artic air hits you and it is the best thing ever. This place reminds me so much of my college bar. Lots of young people with a large selection of games as well. I guess if you want to just grab a drink and talk to people this place is good. Whiskey Brooklyn rocks! Everyone who knows me, knows I love my whiskey and I love my spicy backs. What better way to celebrate a birthday? Knowing it was going to be a bigger crowd this year and seeing I'm always in BK anyway, Whiskey Brooklyn was the obvious choice. Like his brother, Whiskey Tavern, Whiskey Brooklyn has an extremely friendly and funny staff. There's also great drink specials ($10 shot + beer) and delish fried foods (get the tater tots!). If all the drinks, food, and the amazing people you're with aren't enough, go over to play a few games at the skeeball machine, join the shuffleboard tables, or ask the bartend for a box of Jenga. Whiskey, good music and friends! What else could one ask for? The pickle back shots are a must try. One shot of whiskey and one shot of pickle juice/brine. Drink it back to back and it's an awesome pairing of flavors. The lemonades are also good! My Fiancé preferred the vodka version over the whiskey, but still loved both lol We went on a Saturday and the crowd was fun and packed. Parking is iffy so try to get their early. Whiskey Brooklyn, despite being in hipster Williamsburg territory, immediately shot to my favorite bars list. The place is in the basement of the building but isn't at all a dive. It's got a great classy but laid back feel. They've got plenty of seating between the giant bar and the booths. They have a bar menu that is both reasonably priced and quite unique. You can get meals and burgers or smaller bites. Small snacks run the gamut whether you want a bag of piping hot tater tots or a bowl of bacon, they have it. And yes, you heard that correctly, BOWL of BACON. Unfortunately I haven't tried the food but will be sure to update the review as soon as I do. The drinks are reasonably priced and also run the gamut from the Miller Lights to the more obscure micro brews (and other drinks and cocktails). Service was good as well. Something Whiskey Brooklyn excels at is what they have to do there. They have two table shuffleboard tables (free to play), a photo booth, basketball, foosball, and a couple other games (sadly and surprisingly no darts though). I also saw a stripper pole and a DJ booth so I'm assuming this place gets pretty crazy on the weekends. If you're trying to get away from pretentious dives with no elbow room but still want something with personality then this is really the best place to go for it. read more

(3/4/16) Day 6-for Californian's. We ended up at this place when we found out that the Brooklyn brewery we were headed to didn't open till 6pm, and it was only 2pm. We came very early in the day, so really it was too early but there were a couple of people there. Dave, the bartender and the person who waited on us was very nice. The area is very dark and cavern like, flat screens that played sports shows, pool tables and several arcade games in the back near the bathroom. For me, I was just ecstatic to find a jumbo size Jenga and Connect four games on the tables. It was a perfect way to pass our time as we wait for the food. I ordered the soup for today, pork and chickpea stew. My husband and friend ordered buffalo chicken wings, waffle fries, and a turkey club sandwhich. I just had water since I had a headache coming, my husband ordered the grampa toms lemonade and my friend ordered house whiskey. We were still playing the jenga when the wings arrived, then a few minutes later the rest of the food. I really liked my the pork and chickpea stew. It was hearty, thick pieces of pork, chickpeas, carrots, celery. It was a lot for me. You cant really go wrong with fried potatoes so the waffles were perfect. The wings were a good size, not dinky ones. Overall, our experience was mellow, and problem free. We enjoyed the warmth, the food and Dave was very attentative. read more

Well, to start... I always love downstairs bars and I don't even drink whiskey. This place is great; very friendly group of patrons and staff. I'm also now addicted to fried pickles (Kitchen open 'till 2am). A few trips ago, I attempted the Bowl of Bacon + Fried Pickles = Not recommended unless you have a partner. Still very tasty and will be back again and again, especially after afternoons drinking at the Brooklyn Brewery. Update: I tried the Spicy Back last time I went... I love them. Great service. Solid whiskey selection. Good bar food. I went solo on a Wednesday night expecting a stiff drink and a lot of face-to-phone time, but was pleasantly surprised by the conversational bartenders. The drinks were what you'd expect at reasonable prices for the area, and they serve, quite possibly, the best spicy pickleback in Brooklyn. The burger was a thick patty with an admittedly limited cheese selection, and it was, in the most complimentary way possible, a lot like Hardees-- a larger-sized lean patty on your standard bun. But the waffle fries and chipotle mayo were the winner that evening; not to be missed and difficult to bogard. The service will bring me back for more and the whiskey should prove to make it difficult to remember any flaws in this gem of an establishment. read more

Came here over the weekend with a group. Took a very long time to get in. The line was not very long, but the ID scanner broke and it seemed like the bouncers were very unprepared to check IDs without the scanner. The bouncers were also a bit rude upon entry, but we had a great time once we got in. Had to wait about 45 minutes to be able to get downstairs, but was worth the wait-- much better music (mostly throwbacks), ski ball, less crowded, and a whole different environment than upstairs. Rude staff. Confusing drink prices. On Saturday, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon The Whiskey Brooklyn. We went in to watch the remainder of the 8:30pm football game. We found a comfy seat and enjoyed...until we started buying drinks. The first time my boyfriend bought 2 drinks, it was $16 which wasn't bad for 2 large alcoholic beverages. However, the second time he went to buy the same type of drinks - same amount, same size but made by a different bartender, it was $19. Huh?? Ok. After the game was over, the news came on and we were watching the news and discussing current events in relation to what was on the TV when all of a sudden a staff person came around and turned off all the TVs. HOW RUDE!!! It wasn't closing time and there were still people sitting in the outer area near us watching TV. Whether there are people still watching the TVs or not, kindly let your patrons know that you're turning off the TVs. Don't just walk around and turn them off!! You're sending the message - you ain't gotta go home but you gotta get the hell outta here!! And that's just what we did. We quickly finished our drinks and left. Never going there again!! I'm not a fan of blaring music at the bar. But this place has both an upstairs and downstairs with the upstairs being less loud than the other. If you want to chat without screaming , stay upstairs. The bar menu is the same at both bars with a good selection of whiskey but not much beer or cocktail choices. Downstairs there are arcade games and other games as well as tables for big groups. Very disappointed with this location... I have been here several times and never treated so poorly. I came with a group of ten friends because I thought it would be a fun time. I bought run/pineapple and cranberry/vodka for everyone but it tasted like juice. I told the bartender and he laughed... This place was my go-to spot for a fun night. Especially, the Shuffle Board table is the main reason I still continue go. The reason this place deserved an one star review is directly related to the unprofessional people working at the front entrance checking IDs. I do not know what are the requirements to become a bouncer at this place, but it is definitely nothing higher than an elementary diploma. Apparently, this establishment does not allow individuals with Timbs... Now, I was not sure if my yellow boots were the real reason I was not let in or my yellow skin. Stopped in here after the Brooklyn Brewery and I'm instantly in love. First off all, you have to go downstairs as that's where it's at. Secondly, the bartenders are awesome, especially Jeremy. It was my first time in Williamsburg but he made me feel right at home. The bar itself is horseshoe shaped and has ample seating for many people. It was lent too busy when I was here but I can see the place getting packed on a Friday/Saturday night. Some of the tables have giant jenga or giant connect four to play. Something that stuck out to me (and I found amusing) is that there isn't really a bathroom per day. There are 3 (maybe 4, I didn't sleuth) bathroom stalls (huge plus!) but the sink is outside where people can see you washing (or not washing -_-) you hands. Let's just say that this place was super packed on Saturday at 9 pm. The service at the bar was slow since there were only 3 bartenders and a lot of costumers waiting to order. Whoever is in charge of this place and could possibly read this review- I beg of you PLEASE get rid of that DJ. I understand the appeal of playing throwbacks and love to listen to them too, but this dude has zero clue of how to transition songs and spends way too much time playing weird throwbacks that most people would rather not listen to. It's a common complaint, and your sign that says the DJ can't take requests doesn't fix the problem. This place used to be so much more fun and had bomb music. She talked to us nonstop, answered all of our annoying touristy questions and literally took the time to write out a list of fun and local places to go and sights to explore. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I went here for a friend's birthday and was treated worse here than any bar I've ever been to. All the bouncers need to be fired or taught a lesson in basic etiquette or at least taught how to be a normal human being. My friends and I were objectified and yelled at by the bouncers. They made us beg to be let in. And when I did not say thank you after one of the bouncers gave me back my ID, he claimed I gave him an attitude and made me step to the side of the line and wait longer as he let other people behind me in first. (Mind you, it was like 40 degrees out) then seeing that I looked cold, the bouncer told me to wear tights with my skirt next time..... It wasn't until another bouncer came over and let me in that I finally got in and got to rejoin my friends.... Then a couple of hours later as we're leaving, the same bouncer tells me if I've dropped my "attitude" yet and then proceeds to comment on my outfit. Don't come here if you're a girl and are looking to be treated like a piece of meat!!!! Horrible, horrible place. read more

This is a great (whiskey) bar in Williamsburg well deserving of your patronage. It's a great spot to watch a game, catch up with friends, grab dinner, have a drink, and/or play some skee ball. Note: There IS a photo booth. Happy Hour is Mon-Fri 2pm - 7pm and there are some great deals. The "bowl o' meatballs' has some great marinara sauce that may or may not have stained my favorite shirt. I loved the spicy mustard that came with the soft pretzel and the fish tacos were top-notch. Spring for the avocado if you're so inclined. The special sauce on the McWhiskey Burger was one of the best I've ever had. If you noticed, I'm very into sauces, please don't judge. I think condiments are the key to happiness. I've been here 3 times now, with the most recent being my birthday party this past weekend. I've always had great experiences here but this was the best. I reserved a section and walked in to signs blocking off my area with notes saying happy birthday! The bartenders graciously let me bring in a birthday cake and also put it in the kitchen. When it was time to bring it out, they brought it out with all of the candles I brought but also included a sparkler and sang happy birthday to me and cut it up and brought plates/forks. This place deserves 0 stars, and I have been here for several years for birthdays (including my own) and parties. I was unbelievably embarrassed for my boyfriend and my friends after the terrible encounter and blatant discrimination displayed by the bouncers - not allowing 3 black friends in (one being my boyfriend) because there were too many guys, yet let all the white men in. Then saying they don't do groups as my friends who were already in were vouching for them to be allowed in. My friends and I got in first no problem, mixture of Asian, white friends, and one black girlfriend. After waiting and wondering why my boyfriend and his friends weren't coming down to the empty bar, it was apparent something was wrong. As I walked by men clearly coming down to the bar, we found my friends (who already got in) arguing with the bouncers OUTSIDE. When I confronted the fact they were letting in white men, but holding up my friends, they plainly told me "this is the owners policy. I'm following protocol." Is this a scene from a movie? Where the black bouncers are telling me that they are only following protocol from their racist bar owners to let only a few black men in at a time or not at all? AND not provide me the owners name? HOW are you making people feel when they are standing in line for a bar, but are told a lie that it's full or that there are too many guys? But realize quickly it was because they were black when watching white men get through the doors. These were friends who wanted to have a good time and cheers to a new year, but suddenly feel like garbage... Not good enough to enter a bar because of their skin color. Yesterday was the second time I went to whisky Brooklyn and it honestly was mind boggling what went on. One of my friends had a drink in her hand while getting out of an Uber all the way across the street. She discarded the drink and proceeded to showing her two forms of id to the bouncers like requested. The bouncer said she had to speak To his supervisor who was standing behind him. We were all Confused but the supervisor basically lectured her about bringing drinks around the place and that is wasn't allowed. Keep in mind she threw the drink Out all the way across the street and was not intoxicated. Did not try to enter with it anywhere near her. Anyway throughout the entire night whenever he saw me or friends from my Party he would mention how we should drink Water and not get too drunk. I've never been to a bar that discouraged drinking. No One drove and we were all 23. I literally closed my Tab because I felt like if I started to drink I would get attacked with comments from the manager/workers. One of the bouncers also was very rude to My friend who took a pull of her Juul inside. He yelled in her face that he told her so many times to Stop when in fact that was their first interaction. The supervisor explained they are super strict with drinking because a cop was there one night and drove drunk and killed someone. While that is devastating that has nothing to do with me and my friends considering none of us were driving. I'm Gonna stick to going to bars that want us to have a fun night when we want to drink and don't try to limit our alcohol consumption before we enter the bar.
