I decided to go all in with the Blue Plate Special, which was basically a sampler of every BBQ meat on the menu. And Brunswick stew. We sat at the counter; our lady was amazing. FRIED GREEN TOMATOES! Doesn't get any better then that. We got there 10 minutes before they opened and thank goodness we did. They get slammed fast. The servers never stopped moving and they did it with grace. The food was awesome. Fried chicken , creamy corn and mashed potatoes with brown gravy was spot on. My wife had pulled pork sandwich she loved it. The batter they use for the onion rings and fried anything was perfectly seasoned. Very hospitable. Service was pretty good, the place is in good shape. Was surprised that they surcharge $1.50 for eggs. After lunch I found myself questioning the surcharge. Wholesale eggs are far less costly than retail. Current average retail price of a dozen eggs is about $4.80. So a two egg dish has an egg direct cost of $0.80. I would compare that to 6 months ago where 2 eggs cost $.60. So the cost increase is $.20 but the cafe is charging the customer $1.50. So really the surcharge is each customer pays for the price increase for an entire dozen. read more

What a cool place and such a gem to stumble upon when in the area. We are from North GA and made the trip down specifically to visit this restaurant and make a few more stops in the area for a day trip. The food and service are amazing. The town is adorable and has plenty of references from Fried Green Tomatoes. The train comes by often and even shakes the restaurant. Make sure to check the open days and times. We came at 12 noon on a Monday and there was a decent wait. We weren't in a rush so it was perfect for us to walk around until we were sat. You walk up to the door and write your own name on the wait list, then they will call out when your table is ready. This is a must visit when in the area for sure! read more

I'm more of a 3.5 here; I'm not sure if the success of this cafe is because of the connection to a 30 year old movie, but bless their hearts. Firstly, the grub's not made from scratch. These days in time people think it's hard, it is, but you do it anyway. Like grandma. Great service, very kind and entertaining staff, run of the mill Southern diner fare. Food could be elevated a bit, but I suspect a general lack of concern for that seeing as how they maintain the foot traffic they do. No matter how busy you stay, you can always elevate dishes. Very basic menu and system, sign in at front door, wait times can be hit or miss - there is an in and out feel but without being rushed. If you are a huge FGT fan and feel like you're missing out if you don't visit the cafe, you're not. Even this block of shops grasping at the bubbling touristy type is really dragging the golden 15 minutes of fame out. If you don't care, and simply want some Southern fixin's, go and get'em. Brunch and Bloody Mary -- search elsewhere. I would go back if invited, but not on my own. We took side roads out of Atlanta to avoid traffic snarls and were speeding down the road when we saw an old and seemingly homemade sign. It was THE PLACE. Never would have expected it. So we visited, ordered the appetizer platter and received exactly what we were expecting. The best fried green tomatoes we've ever had, some really great chicken, great sweet potato fries and onion rings. All were great because the sauces ... oh, the sauces. I loved the red pepper one. One of my favorite movies is Fried Green Tomato's. Imagine my surprise when I discovered I live 2hrs north of where it was filmed. No trip to Juliette, Georgia is complete without a meal at the Whistle Stop Cafe. Expect a wait if you go on a weekend, because it's very much the whole attraction in town. While you wait you can peruse the street still lined with store fronts seen in the movie. Once inside the restaurant looks like you can expect to see Ruth working the register. I was fortunate enough to get a seat at the counter on the end so I had a nice view for people watching. The cafe has about a dozen lovely southern ladies running it so every sentence starts with "how y'all doin" or "hello sugar". Of course I had the signature dish fried green tomatoes which were delicious. The menu has a nice mixture of southern favorites such as fried catfish and country fried steak. Don't look for vegan or calorie friendly items on this menu. This is down home cooking. I had the Yard Bird sandwich (fried chicken) with sweet potato fries. The portions were massive and the food was very good. Lunch was a little pricey, but not uncommon for a tourist spot. It was an excellent way to top off an afternoon site seeing. read more

Some of the best fried green tomatoes I've ever eaten. They were HOT. The tomatoes must have come straight from the fryer to the plate. The breading was thin and did not fall apart when biting into it. And I actually bit into a tomato! It was NOT like those fried tomatoes where half of the bite is all breading. Whistle Stop's fried green tomatoes are CRISP! And THIN! And well-spiced. I was not as impressed with the rest of the food. The corn bread was dry. The veggie plate I had was very good, but it was about on par with other Southern restaurants. The decor inside is fun and country. I love that it's a small cafe with a large bar in the center. It was bustling but not overcrowded. After lunch, we went to the antique store across the street. The tiny town in the fall feel added to the ambiance. We have been here several times and never disappointed. We went on Mothers Day this year and although there was a waitlist it was worth it. It is very cozy setting and lots of memorabilia from the movie. You can walk through the town and in the shops while you wait. I always get the country fried steak and the fried green tomatoes are the best I have ever had. I wish I had taken more pics of the food, but we were hungry and all I got pics of were the tomatoes. read more

This place is awesome! If you simply watched or are a dedicated fan of the movie Fried Green Tomatoes, this place is a MUST visit. I was staying in Atlanta and without a doubt, I was going to visit the mythical town of Whistlestop. It did not disappoint. The cafe opens at 11am and I took the advice of fellow yelpers. Arrive before noon and avoid the rush. We arrived about 10:50 and the timing was perfect. As we got out of the car we heard the loud sound of a train whistle. WOW! We gathered on the porch of the cafe after taking a few photos. The host arrived on the dot, 11:00 am, and told everyone to sit wherever in the cafe. We got lucky, the waitress with attitude took our order. With seven years of experience it was clear she had dealt with a tourist or two. It was fun to see her gruffness as she did her job. Idgy is alive? Maybe? Service was nothing short of fast. We had our order in under 10 minutes and it was clear the cooks know what they are doing because the food was coming out steady and fast. The fried green tomatoes had good taste and called the best by the other person in our party. It was my first but she had them on several other occasions in Minnesota. Of course we had the Bennett BBQ. The bun was extremely fresh but the roast beef looked preformed like it was made the day before. But after all it was the Bennett BBQ ! Still had good taste and the vinegarette type sauce tasted ok. I guess the secret is in the sauce! Bangles (onion rings) tasted great with it's lightly battered onions. All food was served very hot. The cafe is the main attraction but save time to walk around the former ghost town. Ruth and Idgy's home is there as well as the train depot and Smokey Joes's shack. The shack is behind the cafe along with the bar-b-que. Most buildings are original except the brick bank. Movie makers thought the town needed one so they built a movie set of one. Make sure you touch the brick because it is made out of cardboard! Amazingly looks real!! The owner of the gift shop is a local full of stories. A MUST stop. Almost every store is playing the movie, some on 1992 TV sets!! Drive past the cafe and down the road a mile to see the church as well as the flat grave stones of Buddy and Ruth. The Dam/waterfall is a short drive over the tracks, over the bridge and taking the first road to the right. Most stores are open by 1:30. A fun place to relax and spend a few hours envisioning a simpler time. read more

Waiting benches on the porch are falling apart. The air is insufficient for the establishment. Today was a bad experience over an hour to be seated ( which I was fine with) however over another hour and after telling them to cancel my food because the rest of my party was almost finished they came with my food. It's Father Day and I expected to wait but 1:30 to 4:00 is a bit much to ask anyone. Also not one person apologized for their inefficacy. read more

Very cute, famous cafe where scenes from the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" was shot! Went in at exactly 11 AM and there was already a line of families waiting to be seated. Luckily, my friends and I got a seat at the bar. The decor around the restaurant was cute too. Very funny signs posted on the wall. Started off with fried green tomatoes which is one of the main dishes the cafe is known for. DELICIOUS. The tomatoes were fresh, breaded lightly, and most impressively, not greasy! When I bit into it, the texted of the tomatoes was like biting into a fresh sliced dill pickle - crunchy, tangy, and tart. Paired with the spicy dipping sauce that was served with the tomatoes - wow. Tons of flavor and worth every penny. My main dish was "Rooster Strips" with a side of fries. I enjoyed my chicken tenders. Like the tomatoes, the chicken wasn't over breaded or greasy and tasted fresh. Very straightforward dish. I wasn't impressed with the fries very much. I actually kinda regretted getting them. Not flavored really well and sat pretty heavy after I only had a few. Luckily had some refreshing half and half ice tea to wash it down. The apple dumpling was warm and served with homemade vanilla bean ice cream. My only critique was the pastry shell was too large, and not enough apple or ice cream. Date of visit: Sun Feb 20, 2022. First time eating here at Whistle Stop in Juliette, GA We visited with a party of 6. When we arrived I counted 34 ppl ahead of us. I am not sure of each party size. We signed in at 11:39 am. We waited 1 hour and 20 minutes to be seated. If you are a party over 4 they only have what appears to be 3 tables capable of seating a higher capacity. I ordered 2 sampler platters for our table before the meal was ordered. The sampler had chicken fingers, sweet potato fries, onion rings, and fried green tomatoes, and 4 sauces, honey mustard, ranch, BBQ, and a house zesty sauce. The sweet potato fries were great and had a slight hint of cinnamon. The chicken fingers were very large, piping hot and fantastic. The onion rings had a light batter on them and great flavor everyone agreed. The fried green tomatoes were battered and were decent. In fairness, I've never had fried green tomatoes before so I have nothing to compare them to. All the sauces were good. I ordered fried chicken livers, zipper peas, and stewed tomatoes with a slice of cornbread. I also ordered a Coke. Soft drinks come in a can and Do Not have free refills according to the waitress. The menu we were given didn't show any drinks, the prices or what style they came in. I don't mind paying .75-1.00 ( still a 50%-100% profit) for a can of soda no refill, but a $1.99 is ridiculous with no refills. The next time you ask what drinks a customer wants, at least tell the person it's in a can, it's $1.99, and no free refills on sodas prior to bringing it out The zipper peas were very tasty and were in a slight gravy of their own from cooking. The stewed tomatoes were average. The tomatoes themselves were some of the most beautiful red I have seen in stewed tomatoes. The chicken livers had a very nice crispy coating. But the chicken livers were fairly salty, and all were bitter. I don't think they soak their livers to remove the bitter. I soak mine in whole milk overnight, in a pinch I'll soak in water and sugar overnight. I never have bitter livers. The cornbread was fairly thin, think frozen burger patty thin. It was very dry. My wife said hers was the same way. The wife had the pulled pork, sweet potato, cole slaw. She said the sweet potato was absolutely flawless. The Cole slaw she said needed to be a tiny bit creamier but still good. She said the pulled pork was very tender. The glasses were about 12 oz. Our waitress revisited 1x to refill drinks. The next visit was at the end of everyone finished and ready to go. I drink a lot when I eat, so this was disappointing to me she only visited 1x, especially since water was my only option after I finished my can of Coke in about a minute. The building outside looks like it's about to cave in. I am sure this contributes to the "nostalgia" from the movie it was in, I guess. But, in reality if it weren't a restaurant from a movie ppl would likely question walking into a building that looks like it needs completely rebuilt. Paint flaking off, paint on the glass of windows, gravel needing replenished, boards falling off planters, boards on steps popping up etc. There were several people outside smoking. So if you mind cigarette smoke, be prepared to experience that also. Overall an average experience taking all into consideration. read more

They have a sign upon their door that says "service animals must have service vest and documentation." Which is against the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which is federal law. We were told "things are different here in Georgia and the owner is on a rampage today." So a member of our party with service dog was made to wait in the car and wasn't allowed to come in the restaurant. Because the dog didn't have a service tag or falsified documents. There are no "official" service dog papers, anyone who has those papers has just paid for them online through a scam. The ADA does not issue any type of paperwork for a service dog. Thought this would be a great experience since I love the Fried Green Tomatoes movie, but this is one more case of Hollywood vs reality. This really tainted my views of this place. Knowing that this business is being run by someone who has no knowledge of laws and thinks they can discriminate against people with disabilities with rules they made that break the actual law. read more

Finally went to the much hyped Whistle Stop Cafe for lunch. Arrived shortly before 11:00 so we could get a seat in the first sitting. That proved to be a good strategy. The food was excellent and the service was hospitable and fairly expedient. And the interior is appropriately nostalgic. It is very cute inside. Why the 3 star review? Cleanliness and attention to detail is severely lacking. The menus were very dirty and neat-up. Should have been reprinted 5 years ago. My perception of the cafe is that they are really busy 11-4 every day of the week with low rent and subsequently should have good profits. Regardless, when the cafe is closed there should be plenty of time to clean cobwebs and bugs out of light fixtures and profit to fix broken fixtures. (See photos) Don't get me wrong. I liked the restaurant but I couldn't get over a the little things that so many restaurant owners miss after being in business a long time. Remember that arrival strategy? It gave me time to look at the front porch and see the dead potted ferns and a ceiling (see pic) that needs pressure washing.
