This was my 3rd time there as we are new to Monroe County and like to shop local. Sorry, but I will never go back there to eat! The first time we ate there it was ok. The home made soup was fantastic. Service was excellent. The second time the food was not so good. And last night it was a horrible experience ! However, great service and atmosphere but the so called fresh cooked Burger and fries with sautéed mushrooms. By the way, I specifically asked the waitress if it was freshly cooked to order because so many places keep pre-cooked Burgers in a warmer and quickly warm them up. A process easily identified by the dryness and inside temp of the meat. The small Salad was ok. The 2 lukewarm Biscuits were a little dry and undercooked. The sautéed Mushrooms were like shoe leather, dry and overcooked. The Fries were cold as was the dried up poor excuse of a Burger. Too bad there is no pride in the Kitchen! Hard to beat 5 Guy's for a good Burger. Having traveled just about everywhere in the USA. My review should be taken seriously. This place needs a Kitchen Manager that cares about all the food they put out. Not just the semi fancy gourmet that they try to produce there. If they got their Kitchen in order it could be a great destination restaurant ! read more

We were passing through and came in on a Friday evening around 6:30. It was pretty busy but we (two people) were quickly seated. The biscuits they start you with were PERFECT! Warm, cheesy, savory. Yum! We got the winter harvest salad to split first and it was such a great combo of flavors. I ordered the pork chop and my husband got the shrimp and grits. His entire wasn't your typical bowl of grits with shrimp but it was delicious! Wish we had more grits honestly though. My pork chop was a little dry and needed a little more seasoning. But I loved the fried green tomato and Mac n cheese with it. Overall a good experience. Would be a great date night place or place to hang with some friends for a meal, but not really ideal for small kids. Great service! read more

We have been going to Grits for many years as a place to celebrate milestones in our family. They always had great food, a little pricey but if the food is great not a problem. Unfortunately we went to celebrate another milestone and the food was not great in fact it was less than par. I nor my son's girl friend could eat the trout and my wife's shrimp had no taste. When we are traveling to and from Florida, we always make sure that we land to be able to enjoy the Grits Cafe. It is a culinary delight in Georgia well worth a little out of the way travel this last time my husband had lamb which was cooked to perfection and I had something I've never had which was a shrimp and grits martini. Basically it was served in a martini glass, which was very attractive and it was perfect. The shrimp was seasoned well the Grits had Gouda cheese in them and were delightful all in all it was absolutely delicious. We also tried their fried Grits sticks, which were very yummy again it's one of our favorite places to travel to in Georgia, highly highly recommended. read more

We make a special point of stopping at the Grits Cafe going or coming from Florida! Never been disappointed. Tonight, we enjoyed Grits Sticks that were piping hot with a delightful, pickled slaw. I ordered the amazing Shrimp and grits martini. Shrimp was seasoned and cooked to perfection along with creamy mushroom grits. OMG the bacon crumbles on top made it so-o-o good! Husband loved his crab ravioli in a light sauce. Never had a bad meal here in the years we make sure to stop. A real gem in this quant town 60 miles from Atlanta. Yesterday was my first time actually eating at the Grits Cafe and I was immediately amazed at how amazing it looked inside. I had purchased the ranch burger but my family as a collective got three plates of their fried green tomatoes along with their separate orders. The service was incredible and responsive (we also went in when it wasn't as busy neither, so I think it was also a contributing factor). What an absolute little gem, a perfect lunch break for our long road trip, highly recommend! Luckily the weather held up so we were able to sit outside. The staff was more than thrilled to have us and our little four legged friend. We started with the grits fritters which were very tasty and for lunch I had the salmon BLT and my fiancé had the French dip. The waitress was so friendly and happily allowed us to try some of their soup of the day. She also told us we could substitute the fries for sweet potato fries, or a salad or a soup if we liked. (I went with the Caesar salad which was excellent and I loved how the croutons were also made of grits, how fun). My BLT was great too. The sandwich bread was excellent and I loved the remoulade sauce too. So many amazing options here, it was certainly hard to choose! Our waitress was so super nice, as was everyone working there. Pax was so happy too! He loved the pets from the hard working staff! Grits never fails to please. The bone in pork chop is one of the best dishes in all of middle Georgia.

This place blew our minds. The chef knew what he/she was doing, and we felt the love in every bite. Can we start with the complimentary homemade cheese biscuits? Ah, so good. We got the grit cake fries and the wedge to start. Everything is elevated here and sets itself apart from many other places. That was one of the best wedge salads I've ever had. We shared the tuna as our main entree and enjoyed wine and cocktails. We would go out of our way from Florida to come back here. My husband and I have passed Forsyth many times as we've traveled through Georgia but we've never even seen the downtown. What a cute and busy little town! We walked into the restaurant and the hostess station is right inside the door. We were originally looking for a diner to have lunch in. This is not a diner. It is a nice restaurant with great decor and great menu. I'm not saying it wasn't a great place- it was. It's just not a red/white checkered tablecloths kind of place. My husband and I both ordered unsweetened tea and it was fresh brewed and delicious. We ordered the meatloaf sandwich and split it. They split it in the kitchen. We chose sweet potato fries as the side. We left there stuffed and very satisfied. The flavors of the sandwich were a perfect combination. It had tomato jam and a nice sauce too. The meatloaf was thick and flavorful on its own. The bread was a grilled Texas toast. We were too full for dessert. Our server was very friendly and efficient. My family was on a road trip and had to stop for a quick bite. The reviews for the restaurants by the interstate were terrible so instead we drive just 7 minutes into the cute town of Forsyth to eat at Grits Cafe. I'm glad we decided to eat local and we enjoyed this nice restaurant with super pleasant waitress. We started with the grit cakes. It was nice and creamy in the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. I highly recommend. I had the Coca-Cola fried chicken salad which is a take off the southern way to drink a bottle coke with peanuts added. The chicken was marinated in coke then breaded and fried. The salad was topped with roasted peanuts and corn. The cilantro dressing was to die for! Portion was huge! My son had the Caesar salad and the croutons were actually crispy grits too. We have been going to Grits for a while now and have never had any complaints. However we were there over the weekend and the service was the worst I've ever seen. We were there 40 minutes before we ever got our drinks. The waiter never asked how we were doing, in fact we had to remind him that we needed to order. We had been there for an hour and twenty minutes before our food came out. At this point, no one is hungry and is just ready to go. When we finally got the food, it was just ok. Beef tips were not seasoned and like I said we had just been there too long. We all wanted dessert but was afraid we would be there another hour waiting on that. It will be a while before we go back......if we do. We have never had service like that and it's very disappointing, because it is one of our very favorite places to eat. read more

Very pleasant moderately upscale downtown restaurant. Service was beyond 5 star, as my server worked very hard to rectify a string of errors from the kitchen. The fried green tomatoes were almost tasteless and overly breaded and fried. 1.5 star. The special I ordered came out lukewarm with overly hot sides and a hot plate. It was a lamb shank that had obviously been sitting somewhere for some time. I sent it back and got a pork chop that was dangerously undercooked. The kitchen finished cooking that and sent it back to me. The food itself that I ultimately received was fantastic. 4.5 stars No offer to comp anything or even a visit by management after 2 colossal failures on the entree. 2 stars. Will go back for sure but if anything like this happens again I will not. On a return trip to Atlanta from Amelia Island FL, we found ourselves in a torrential storm system making driving unsafe. We made a decision to get off the highway, stop in Forsyth and find a hotel and a dinner spot. After studying reviews in Yelp and talking to hotel staff, we decided on the Grits Cafe. So glad we did. The restaurant is a charming and a locally very popular cafe located right in the center of town and near I-75. Classic American cuisine with some unique features. For example, the croutons on the Caesar salad are deep fried cubes prepared from frozen pieces of grits with crispy outsides and deliciously soft insides. Quite a nice surprise when you first bite into them. Some other dishes have innovative use of grits, hence the name of the cafe. My grilled pork chop was huge, tasty, and served on top of Mac and Cheese. My wife's ribeye was nicely seasoned and also huge. I enjoyed my freshly baked warm chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream. Service was great and very attentive. Highly recommend if you find yourself nearby. read more

I'm still working through the menu at this restaurant and there are some items that are simply much better than others, overall, this is my go-to place in Forsyth, particularly for those celebratory dinners, ie birthdays, anniversaries, promotions etc. And maybe the occasional date night if we don't mind splurging. The Ginger Soy Ahi Tuna is absolutely incredible!! The one thing I have to order every single time, no matter what. The Southwest Spring Rolls are good if you don't mind the vinegar-based sauce, and the fried green tomatoes are great, topped with that pan seared shrimp. In my opinion the remoulade is what really counts when it comes to Fried Green Tomatoes, and they have a great remoulade that never seems to be enough, because I find myself searching for more, long after the tomatoes are gone. Wonderful southern gem! We flew into ATL and had to head 2 hours or so south and had a hard time finding s place open and Gluten Free! Fortunately I have stellar search skills on Yelp, this place was worth it! We were hungry, we ordered appetizers and a meal each. We had the tuna appetizer snd the grit with seafood martini appetizer thing. We both ordered the specials as meals, me the burger with no bun and my coworker the fried chicken sandwich. The two apps were the highlight! To be honest we would have been happy with those, the flavors were rich and fresh. My burger was good, but kind of bland, the tomato jam and garlic Mayo made it able to eat. My coworkers fried chicken sandwich looked good and he said it was fine. Was in town shortly for a business trip and always enjoy local fare more than chain restaurants or fast food. This place was top notch. Customer service was warm, friendly and quick (think they were under staffed but didn't really notice too much). The fried green tomatoes I could eat those as a meal alone. Delicious!! Fried perfectly so crunchy outside, nice hot soft but not mushy tomato inside. The shrimps on top where **chief kiss** good!! The shrimp & grits was tasty too.. not how I normally take my grits but was still good. Would try another main dish next time. I also ordered a cherry limeade, a bit too much lime and not enough cherry, but still good. Though the waitress cleared it away with the last bit remaining before I could say anything.
