Fried chicken, onion rings, garlic parm fries

My family and I drove an hour and a half to eat at Ms. Sally's, and the only downside was the cooler we brought for leftovers almost wasn't big enough. This restaurant is 100% gluten free, and you'd never know it. The fried chicken and catfish? Top tier. Onion rings? Delicious. Banana pudding? So good we bought a quart to take home. The standout of the night and biggest surprise? The pork n bean bread dessert. Don't let the name scare you off, it's warm, buttery, and melts in your mouth. Our waitress, Mallory, was wonderful and gave us the best recommendations. Whether you eat gluten or not, Ms.Sally's is a must try if you're ever in Mansfield. And even if you're not, the drive is well worth it. Just bring a big enough cooler!

Tenders came out before wings but only because she had the cook fry another order because they were not crispy , but still not crispy. Tenders were so bland and tasteless my son said he would just eat the fries, which he couldn't eat as well, took a bite of both, the fries tasted like old grease and the chicken tasted like fish. when she asked me how it was, I politely told her it was not good and told her so she could tell the kitchen staff so they are aware of it. never asked to take anything off the check, nor did she offer. while Getting in the car the manager came out and asked was there a problem with my food? So, I again told her the same thing.... Immediately she became defensive and proceeded to tell me how she changes the oil and the batter is separate from the fish and I was wrong...and I was the first one to complain about their food. Well, maybe I was the first one to speak up? Usually when people have a bad meal, they just don't come back, that would be me, but I really wanted this place to work because it is so close to us and wanted to give them constructive criticism. If the manager wasn't so defiant and unapologetic to my disabled son, I probably wouldn't even be writing this. shame on her, all she could of said was sorry you your son did not like his meal. if your reading this , I hope you learn from it ., that's all.

We've eaten here enough times that it feels less like a restaurant visit and more like part of the tradition. Tonight I ordered the Blue Plate Special with hamburger steak smothered in grilled onions, collard greens, green beans, cornbread, and a big bowl of Brunswick stew. My unsweet tea stayed filled thanks to Rhonda, who was serving tables while also managing the restaurant. We learned that Hot Rod's started the evening with three servers scheduled. Business was slow, so one server was sent home. Naturally, that's when things picked up. Even so, Rhonda and the remaining server kept everything moving smoothly, and we never felt neglected during our visit. The Brunswick stew was excellent and gave us an unexpected opportunity for comparison. Earlier in the day we had Brunswick stew at Fresh Air Bar-B-Que. Hot Rod's version was chunkier, with larger pieces of meat, more noticeable vegetables, and a slight kick of spice. The Fresh Air version was smoother and more finely blended. Both were excellent, but they were definitely different styles. The hamburger steak was flavorful, the green beans and collard greens tasted like proper Southern vegetables, and when the Texas Pete hit the table there was only one thing to say: "My man, Texas Pete goes on the collards." Then came the surprise ending. We learned that peach cobbler was half price today. Unfortunately, they were out. Or so we thought. A fresh cobbler was still in the oven. For the next several minutes, the suspense reached maximum peach. Finally, the cobbler emerged from the kitchen and was served à la mode. The French gave it a classy name. The South perfected the application. Warm peaches, a buttery cobbler topping, and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream that immediately melted with a purpose made for the perfect ending to the meal. It was absolutely worth the wait. Hot Rod's continues to be one of our favorite stops in Social Circle, and after another great meal, I have no doubt we'll be back again the next time we're in town. It's a small place sort of looked like it could have been a fast food restaurant. There was plenty of seating. You could order from the menu or from the hot table (not sure what else to call it). There were two ladies working up front and it took a long time to order. I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, green beans, a cornbread muffin and a tea (half sweet/half unsweetened). My colleague had meatloaf, Mac and cheese, green beans, and a biscuit. We each ordered peach cobbler. They serve a lot of food! My colleague said she was going to take some for dinner. Well. . . she ate everything. It must have been really good. I haven't had good fried chicken in a long time and it was delicious. I ate all the green beans and the cornbread. I took the chicken to eat later. The mashed potatoes started out tasting good but then I started to notice an after taste that I didn't like. I didn't eat them. My colleague could not eat the cobbler. I'm not sure what was wrong with it but she tasted it and said she couldn't eat it. I unfortunately never got to eat mine. It sat in the fridge in the hotel and I ended up tossing it before I left. I was a little disappointed. I really was expecting some grits and maybe some greens (not green beans).

The cooks' hands are blessed, because the way I INHALED that food should be a crime in itself. The decor was cute and festive for the occasion, but all I could concentrate on was that FOOD.

The Dining Room may be in a small town outside of Atlanta, but this place measures up to the heavyweights in the city. The service, decor, attention to detail, mixology, creativity of the dishes, and flavors were all top notch and very well thought out. They offer an a la carte menu or a 3 or 4 course tasting menu. Don't make the mistake I did and order a la carte. Go for the tasting menu. They say that the difference is that the a la carte portions are bigger, but I didn't really find that to be the case. The tasting menu is more of a prix-fixe menu as the portions are pretty close to full-sized if not actually full-sized. I mentioned the mixology earlier, and they really know their stuff in that area. Just asking for a classic cocktail, they asked the questions that most bartenders wouldn't think to ask. They really know their stuff, and I may have picked up a new favorite drink. Considering the full 4-course tasting menu is going for $99 as of this writing it's the most affordable fine dining experience you're going to find anywhere near the Atlanta area.
