    Reuben with collard greens
    Claudia E.

This is a super cute place that I had heard some great things about. We now live a lot closer than before and I finally got to try it, and my husband got to come back for the first time in 15+ years. The standout is the atmosphere. Even before you walk in, you can feel how lovely the little spot is and how homey the restaurant will be. There is a train motif all over the restaurant, given it's immediately adjacent to the train tracks. The food was alright. We started with the fried green tomatoes and the fresh baked bread. I did love the tomatoes, and the bread wasn't half bad either. The loaf was surprisingly big. For our entrees we got the Reuben and the chef salad. This was pretty standard. I was disappointed with the fact that there were three little slices of meat on the sandwich. The thousand island is served on the side, which I thought was interesting. The chef salad was also fine, pretty average. I would love to try their desserts next time. We will definitely be back, I would love to bring my parents here to spend the day in Glendale and cap it with a nice hearty meal. Check them out!

We made the 40 min drive from Louisville to Glendale today for lunch. Parked in front of the restaurant. There where five of us. We where seated by a very sweet young lady. Our Seaver was great. We all had something different. I had the meatloaf, mashed potato's and fried corn bread. My friends had fried chicken, chicken and dumplings and Ruben sandwich, everyone said the food was just OK. It's decorated in a train motif which was very adorable and while we were sitting there a train went by that shook the whole building. After we ate. We went across the street to the cute little shops, then we went back into the whistle stop and had desserts. We all got a different dessert that consisted of coconut cream pie, butterscotch pie, chocolate, pecan pie, butter cream pie and I had the hot fudge cake We all tasted each other desserts. My favorites were the hot fudge cake and the coconut cream pie. I definitely would recommend for the ambience. It was a fun day.

Delicious food, awesome fresh pie, friendly and fast service, country cafe atmosphere. If you're traveling I65, "Historic Glendale" is just 2 miles west of I65, just south of Elizabethtown,KY. The Whistle Stop is a wonderful place to get off the road. We stopped here for lunch and arrived at 11:20 and got right in! This place is popular and gets busy fast. The only challenge is finding a parking spot, but just be prepared for a little walk. I had the teriyaki chicken with 2 sides. I got broccoli casserole and a side salad. My husband had the chicken strips which came with one side, and he got the onion rings. All was good. For dessert we shared a piece of coconut meringue pie. It was incredible!! They make their pies fresh daily, and our slice was still a little warm. Highly recommend this place as a comforting stop when you're in the area!

Upon a family friend's recommendation we stopped here Saturday afternoon as we were heading southbound to Middle Tennessee. Wait time was minimal. Excellent service -- she was extra friendly and very knowledgeable. We all three thoroughly enjoyed our homemade entrees. Chicken & Dumplings; Pork tenderloin special and the grilled chicken special dish. We brought home some homemade pie slices as well. Situated in an historic older structure (former hardware store) that still retains much of the original walls & floors. Dark woods adorn the walls. Booth spaces are smaller but cozy and intimate. During prime time serving hours expect a wait time to be seated. No reservations are available.

As soon as you walk in the door. It just smells good. I had the Whistle Stop Burger. It was delicious!!!! Cheryl was our server. She was as sweet as could be and very attentive. We also had Fried Green Tomato's. Best I have had since visiting Kentucky. You can tell their rolls are fresh baked and doughy. Great food, great ambiance. Thank you

Food was AMAZING! Some of the best chicken I've had. Prices were a bit on the higher side, but I'm able to get at least 2 more meals out of it. Rolls were amazing. Great overall experience!

We got reservations for the Mother's Day buffet in advance. It's held in there upstairs part of the restaurant. Once we were able to get upstairs & confirm our reservation, we were seated, there were plenty of tables but the table we sat at was ever close to the other table next to us that getting in & out was ever tight & we kept trying to bump into each other. Our lovely server took our drink order, we asked for coffee but told there wasn't any upstairs. So we settled for there iced tea & soda options . The buffet was set up in the middle & they had staff there to serve. The protein options were meatloaf, fried chicken, pot roast, sides were broccoli casserole, mashed potatoes, Mac & cheese, green beans & rolls. They also has side salad that the server got for you. It was a really nice buffet set up, that we didn't have to get up for drink refills, salad or dessert just got up for the main menu & our server kept the table clean by taking our plates. Everything was delicious & fulling that one plate was enough. We really enjoyed the relax environment. When it came time for dessert, we noticed other patrons had coffee, asked our server & she said someone did make some for upstairs. We finally got our coffees with dessert which was a nice ending to the meal.

Down home cooking at its finest . Unfortunately, they were out of meringue pies so didn't get to try that . It's just another reason to go back . Haley did a great job of taking care of us . Nice experience.

Now this review could have went a different direction but thankfully there's a happy ending. We were the first customers of the day here and we were seated promptly the server came over and quickly got our drink order then she says before I start taking your order we can't make anything that's fried. Well that's 90% of the menu and I came for the fried chicken. So we made it work and placed our order and then she returned and said the truck arrived and we can make the chicken. So we all changed our order and everything was delicious. They got some great fried chicken here. And their mashed potatoes and green beans are tasty too, everything was hot, fresh and tasted amazing.

    Whistle stop in historic Glendale

Whistle stop is located in historic Glendale in a very old building. There seem to be several small rooms with 4 our so tables. So lots of character, though not necessarily lots of comfort. My wife is biting. She ordered tomato soup and grilled cheese, which she enjoyed. I really over did it. I started with the bean soup which comes with their fried cornbread. The soup was good cornbread very good. Cornbread was like a corn pancake. Not dense at all. I also got the 1/2 fried chicken, knowing I'd take done home. It was only $3 more so why not? The chicken had a tick coating (southern fried). It was a little greasy but very tender snd very flavorful. I ended up getting 3 meals out of it because it was just so much and so rich. The Mac and cheese was great, among the best I've had. Corn puffing was very eggy and I didn't care for it at all. My wife did get butterscotch pie. She said the flavor was different than she expected, but she ate it all (later as a carry out) Our server was friendly snd attentive. I'd definitely go again when we are in the area. It's a real experience.

Loved this oldie but goodie. Really old fashioned but just what you're looking for in a spot like this. Can't wait to take some family out there to try. We all enjoyed our fried green tomato appetizer. They were huge. Our plate had some the size of a hamburger & The breading was delicious. I can only suggest if you get the Buffalo chicken platter to ask for less Buffalo sauce or just have it on the side to dip. Other than that we really can't complain! Service was good. Our waitress really had a sense of humor & that's always a plus! I loved their little store front to purchase a few things.

My favorite dish was the Jägerschnitzel. The fried chicken was a close second. I loved that Tony got on the piano and played Happy Birthday while guests sing. I got a free dessert for my birthday. I choose the creme brulee! I can't even put into words how good it was. The top was perfectly caramelized and the middle was rich and creamy. I will definitely be back!

My guest had a Gluten restriction and was shocked to learn that the chef could make her fried green tomatoes using corn flour to accommodate. Overall, they offered a lot of GF options for her. She was thrilled as she said that it was the first time in 16 years she's been able to enjoy them. I reserved most of that appetizer for her, but I did have one slice and to be honest, it was either that or the shrimp alfredo I had, I was not feeling good at all within an hour of our meal. I suspect that it was the corn meal as I was not used to it. I would try again, but I will order something else next time.

The restaurant includes a long row of bar seating that extends to the other end of the restaurant, so there was no problem for me to find a seat on a busy day. I ordered the Mac n cheese and braised greens, and the Mac n cheese was really good and creamy. The braised greens were just okay, it wasn't the best greens I've had and it could use extra flavor. I don't know if this is a thing they do at Doc Crow's, but in my opinion the bartender excessively kept asking me what I wanted even while I was still looking at the menu. This definitely frustrated me since it was clear that I wasn't ready yet. I think she should have done a better job reading my cues to figure out when I am ready to order.

My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I spent most of the afternoon on a bourbon tour and a post-tour distillery so...food was needed. And quickly. In our mild defense, we didn't really know how the day was going to go or when we were actually going to have dinner, which made it a little tougher to pre-plan, but no research went into this at all and we paid for it. We wrapped up our bourbon adventures at the Angel's Envy distillery probably five or six blocks from here. Instead of being grownups and doing at least a quick/impromptu recon for spots, we literally just walked outside and down W Main St until we hit something. And we hit this, which was right on the edge of the main tourist area, pretty much Louisville's equivalent of the Times Square/MSG area. And as someone who works and used to live in NYC, you'd have to do a lot of convincing to get me to eat in that particular area - it's overpriced and the food/service just tends to not be very good, which makes you wonder what the appeal is for tourists beyond the convenience. But regardless, it's always struck me as an odd way for a tourism spot to put its best foot forward (or not). Doc Crow's is enormous, and when we were brought further into the restaurant to our table, I think we literally walked through three or four large rooms and navigated through multiple passageways. If you told me this place took up an entire city block or close to it, I'd believe you. Beyond the size/scope, there's nothing really distinctive that separates it from the myriad of other restaurants you'd expect to see catering to out-of-towners. It was the Friday evening of Memorial Day Weekend, so a place that I suspect is usually pretty busy was even busier and louder than that. Maybe not the greatest recipe after a bourbon tour, but who can say. On the app front, we got the Crispy Salmon Bites, which were fine. Not an item I typically see on a menu, even one with more of a seafood bent. I thought the cornmeal/panko breading was the right call; I'm a big catfish aficionado, so I'm of the opinion that cornmeal is underutilized, at least in the Northeast where I come from. Otherwise, nothing really mind-blowing there; probably would have made sense for it to be a different type of fish given the prep (I think salmon is best raw in a sushi roll or grilled), but it could have been worse. I don't think a ton of thought went into this on my end, but I went with the full rack BBQ ribs, along with a side of mac n' cheese. Again, okay, though not as flavorful as I would have hoped and I thought the ribs were on the dry side. Not their fault, but I always regret getting the full rack in hindsight because ribs have a deceptively significant amount of meat on the bones and a half rack is a very decent portion by itself; I am a work in progress just like everyone else. The mac n' cheese was also pretty dry, which I think you can see pretty obviously in the accompanying picture. Tasted and felt reheated at least once or twice. The service was pretty efficient given how busy it was, but our waiter was just on robotic autopilot. Not remotely personable and everything I said to him was responded to with, "For sure, for sure." Maybe he was having a rough night to start the holiday weekend, but it felt like he was just going through the motions and just checking off some boxes there. I went into this already predisposed to not like the generic tourist trap places, so grain of salt. But my recommendation if you have the time/bandwidth (now that I'm a cagey Louisville vet) is to bypass this area if you can and find something tastier and more interesting in the Highlands neighborhood. That's where the real ones are.
