Made a reservation for 5:30 arrived early and able to get seated at 5:00. We are from out of town but visit the area often, always wanted to try this place. Finally did and glad we did! Service was fast and friendly. Drink was Miami Vice, little too sweet at the bottom but still good. Jerk Chicken - sauce that comes with it was hot! I ordered it hot, it was nice to actually get something with some heat and flavor. Large portions. Curry Lamb was also flavorful and DELICIOUS . Should come with some kind of bread like Naan but still very satisfying. Can't wait to return in the future to try other items on the menu!!

omfg, wow (insert your favorite adjective..)!! this place BLEW ME AWAY!! i'm a a self-admitted foodie / food snob, and to find this gem of a restaurant on the iron range literally amazed me!! went there on a date (thursday), had the stuffed salmon, my date had the coconut mahi, we started the meal with chips w/pineapple salsa & the crispy brussels sprouts..ALL AMAZING!! drinks were made very well (per my date), i had the raspberry iced tea, again, very impressed!! then, friday night, walleye fish fry baby!! two words; do it!!

What a find! I can't believe such an exotic and colorful place with such delicious food was near the bike trails we were on this week. I have never cared for jerk from previous places but their jerk chicken was out of this world. We almost licked our plate (had the jerk nacho starter.) My main course was the coconut crusted mahi and was just beautiful. Our server was quick to check in on us as needed, was friendly and recommended the painkiller cocktail which was DELICIOUS! Great place. If we lived in the area it would quickly become a regular for us. (Lucky peeps in Gilbert.)

What a pleasant surprise when we discovered this place. Excellent food, drinks and great service. Home run.

Been going here on and off for 15+ years, definitely NOT disappointed this last time! Hard to find flavor and uniqueness in this area, but here it is! Flavor, variety, and vibe all here! Jerk anything, pork, chicken, whatever, is all amazing! Deep flavor profiles! Although I'm normally a jerk gal (and love the Rasta Pasta), I got the sweet curry this time with sweet potatoes and plantains--WOW! Addicting and huge portion! Negril nachos are some of the best nachos ever! Even the bread basket that comes with the meal is out of the park! Will have a great lunch for the next two days with my leftovers! Service is great, manager was VERY helpful, considerate, and social. Only negative is that it's a little hard to get a spot (small place) and they put mushrooms in my hubby's pasta when he said specifically NO MUSHROOMS! Only complaints though--Can't get back here soon enough!

This desert was absolutely awesome. It was a very nice finish to my meal.

Food and atmosphere and service were all excellent . I highly recommend stopping in for a bite.

Different and unique especially for the area. Always great food with bold flavor. We've been here three times. Since the new owner has taken over i have to say a good place got better. Place feels cleaner, fresh, and a bit more upbeat. Recommend checking this place out.

I've been hearing about this place for over 4 years and never ventured the hour drive because it seemed to far...... Let me tell you, it's not!!! I would drive several hours for the deliciousness that awaits at the Whistling Bird! First, the vibe and decor is a breath of fresh air. Second, the staff are super friendly. Third, and most importantly, the food is amazing. We tried the stuffed mushrooms and bacon wrapped shrimp appetizers. Both were amazing. We shared a jerk platter and....mmmmmm. Jerk pork, shrimp and chicken with rice and hush puppies. You just have to have it! Go now. Seriously

Having tried burgers, sandwiches, entrees, pizza, wings, I would summarize the food this way, straightforward. Everything that I have eaten has been good. Not extra special or amazing, but good and consistent. I have had consistently friendly and helpful servers. I don't personally know anyone who works there but my interactions with staff have all been very friendly. I have eaten here alone and with groups, there is always music or TV sound happening, but it not so loud as to bother all conversation or prevent you from reading. I personally like ambient noise as long as it is not too loud. It is one of the reasons I would go out by myself is to be in that environment. I have found this business to be consistently accommodating and reliably good quality.

However, we also had to call the restaurant while we were there to get service, Still, we're "up north " so trying to "chill". After we were finally served our food (it was a "so-so" meal ) we had to actually call the restaurant yet again to pay the bill! It will be a great story to tell everyone about.....we waited around forever. Stood up and went to get a server to make sure that our bill was paid- which was another ordeal. A good story for the ages, but we won't recommend it for the faint of heart Food (honestly) wasn't even close to be worth waiting for. Restaurant wasn't close to being busy either.

Our meal…read moretook over two hours, and it very much seemed that the staff believed "sorry we are busy" and a free desert would make it all better. More details below. The food was excellent, except for the falafel. I've never had falafel before that wasn't crispy on the outside. I'm not sure if the dish sat for a while before being served, or if The Pines simply serves it non-crispy. It was soggy. The great food included: Chicken, Scampi, Sea Bass, Walleye Tempura, Popovers, Potatoes, Beets, Cauliflower. All of these were excellent and everyone at our table was so pleased. The service: I'm not sure if I will return. It is unlikely. Our initial round of food appeared very quickly. Things slowed down after that. The rest of the food took an eternity to arrive. I truly considered asking for the bill and leaving before our mains, but we were treating friends. My tiny water glass kept going empty, and finally someone asked if we would like a carafe of water. Yes, yes indeed. Beverages were in general slow. We were told that we would receive a free desert, and asked for the menu. When she came to see what we might order, we had to ask for the menu a second time. More slow. What fun. I privately let our server know I was quite disappointed prior to the bill arriving. I was crystal clear before we ordered that I was to receive the bill. The bill was left on the table with one of my guests. I provided my credit card, and again the bill was left with my female guest. Did you even look at my name on the card (an obviously male name).

The restaurant itself is bright and inviting, the staff is super attentive and friendly and the food is fresh and innovative. Their Risotto was one of my favorite dishes I have ever had and I am still dreaming about the popovers. There is also a speakeasy in the basement and the drinks are delicious! Upscale workout being stuffy. Loved everything about our visit!

I had the shrimp dinner and couldn't believe how good the shrimp was. Crispy on the outside, shrimp was tender and not overcooked! Side salad was fancy too. Also had the bacon Mac as a side. Was not as impressed with that however. Surprised what you can find in a Northern Minnesota range town.

I visited BoomTown this evening for their Taco Tuesday. I ordered the Boom Boom Pulled Pork tacos…read more I have had these many time before, but tonight they were over the top spicy. I talked to the table next to me who agreed, in fact like me the lady at that table ate almost two of her tacos before she couldn't handle it any more. I told them I was having the same difficulty. One waiter said the tacos should be more "sweet" not spicy. Our waitress said others had complained today regarding the spiciness too. I stopped eating my tacos, chips and salsa, since I couldn't identify where the spice was coming from. When I asked my waitress, who had admitted others were complaining, about a discount since I couldn't finish my food since the heat kept building in my mouth. She stated I couldn't get a discount since it was Taco Tuesday so the food was already discounted. Not pleased. To add insult to injury the lady at the table next to me made the same complaint and she was offered new food. I don't know if it was because her husband made the complaint on her behalf, and I was a table of one? Very disappointed in service and food. Sadly I drove by Thirsty Moose who has amazing food, but picked Boomtown tonight. Regretting that decision.
