Well, I've stayed a few times: once in the cloud cottage with my husband for our 20th anniversary, and later on the top level of the pink house, just myself and my teen&tween for girls' trip on my daughter's 14th birthday weekend. In a sentence, White Pig is a vegan bed-and-breakfast with Victorian aesthetic, where proceeds go directly to helping rescued pigs, goats, and horses. Both of our stays were incredibly enriching and meaningful to us as lifelong vegans. The rooms are extremely comfortable, elegant, tastefully and practically laid out. Heavy emphasis on pig related knickknacks, wall art, and general animal decor reminds you what is at the heart of all this. Founder/ owner/ innkeeper, Dina, is also chef extraordinaire. She provides gorgeous and nutritious vegan breakfast in a charming kitchen with cheerily arranged pig-forward table settings. As soon as you start talking with her, you'll find her to be one of the most compassionate advocates for animals you will ever meet. She's devoted her life to raising awareness and introducing people to the intelligent and gregarious animal so many of us grew up eating. Dina knows the area well and has wonderful suggestions. It's thanks to her that my husband and I took a hot air balloon ride over the Charlottesville Mountains during our anniversary stay. When I returned with my daughter's on our most recent visit, we opted to stay on the farm and visit with the resident rescues for the entirety of our leisure time. The horses and pony are located near the big house. My girls adored these social creatures who come to greet them over the fence. Then it was on to the pigs & goats. Oh my goodness there are domesticated pigs of every style and breed I thought imaginable, so many we had never heard of . Adorable kunekune (fury pigs), dignified little warthogs, standard English pigs with floppy ears, and every color and pattern a Vietnamese potbellied pig can be. For the most part the pigs are interested in a friendly hello. Some little fellows are standoffish and there's plenty of space for them to stay away from the commotion of visitors. There are quite a few goats in the mix as well. Each of these rescue animals are so delightful and it's humbling to think of the journeys that brought them to this beautiful vegan sanctuary. What a perfect stay we had at the White Pig B&B! It was the perfect December cozy atmosphere, the whole house is decorated to the nines with adorable farm and, of course, pig decor. It was a special touch that they shared the history of the pig our room was named after, along with a little bit of the sanctuary's story. Our room was beautiful and we were greeted with cupcakes when we arrived. They even went so far as to make a gluten free batch for my friend who called ahead of our stay to let them know. The vegan breakfast served was delicious! We had coffee, juice, grapefruit halves, an oven-baked omelet, apple turnover, and hash-browns. After breakfast we greeted and gave a few snacks to the horses, said hello and gave pets to all the miniature pot-bellies, and walked the gorgeous property. Beautiful 100 wooded acres animal sanctuary and bed and breakfast. They provided some Vegan snacks and serve a Vegan breakfast. We sat down with the owner in one of the pig enclosures for an hour. Nice conversation and pigs and a cat came up to be petted. She is extremely pleasant, friendly and dedicated to her cause of providing love, care and a home for animals in need. We couldn't hear any road noises and enjoyed the hiking trail. This was just what we needed to relieve the stress of traveling. We went to the nearby grocery store and brought whole food plant based food back to eat. But there are no tables to use or picnic tables outside. Also, the Jacob and Willaby rooms are the only available rooms for people needing 2 beds. They share a bathroom, but aren't connected. We didn't realize this when we booked the room. Having to go out into the hall shared by other people during the night and unlocking the Jacob room door, to use the bathroom was a bit inconvenient. read more

This is the worst experience I have ever had. It was dirty inside and out. The water container was half full and it was yellow. There is one 19 inch tv in the very small living one for all the rooms. To turn the lamp on in the bed room you have to go down the hall and hit a switch. There is no fresh deserts, refreshments and drinks as specified. No kitchen available. No phone service. I highly recommend you do not stay here. The owners would not accommodate anything. We were told breakfast would be at 9:00, we did not stick around to see if any breakfast was available. We had no other choice to stay since no refund would be given. There was no one there to welcome us at 3:00 pm in the afternoon. They left keys with our name on it. read more

Wonderful weekend at this vegan bed and breakfast/ animal sanctuary with my partner and dog. There are 15 pigs, 2 horses, 3 dogs and 3 cats. The tour of the pigs is awesome. You learn about each of their stories and how they made it to the sanctuary. We stayed in the cottage, which is dog friendly. The cottage has a full kitchen and wood stove. Hiking trail approximately 1 mile, nice and wide. Hot tub at the main house is great. Night time has a beautiful view of the stars. Vegan breakfast is fantastically delicious! We had a wonderful stay in the Cloud Cottage at White Pig. It's a great location--just far enough outside of Charlottesville to be in the peaceful country, but close enough to go into the town for meals, etc. It's also close to all the breweries and wineries in the area! Staying at the farm was so great because we got to take the farm animal tour and learn a lot about pigs and animal rescue. It was really cool! And we went back to pet the dogs and pigs before we left. I am a vegetarian and my partner eats meat, and even then the vegan breakfast Dina made was absolutely delicious! The cabin itself was very cute and even has a little back porch. Lots of privacy and very fun and romantic. Can't recommend staying there enough! We will definitely be back. One last note: It was really great to stay somewhere where we knew that our money made a difference. There's a big difference between staying at a for-profit hotel or rental and then staying at a cottage where the money goes to saving and helping animals. read more

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. We loved our evening here and plan to come back when the weather is nicer. The land and cottage we stayed in is beautiful. Our room was very clean and the bed was comfy and cozy. We said hi to some piggies and the owner made us really awesome french toast for breakfast. She was accomodating to me being gluten free even! In the living area, there was information on where we could eat for dinner, and there were board games and snacks left out for us. There was even a map of the farm and information on what to do in the area. I would definitely reccomend for vegans and non. We had a great time. read more

Lovely stay in the Cloud Cottage! Every need was taken care of. No detail was overlooked. The cottage and every room in the main house are clean and meticulously decorated. The cottage has a screened-in porch with a beautiful view of the forest, a comfortable bed and futon sofa, fully-stocked kitchenette, A/C and wood stove, and even guest bathrobes! Dina and Caleb were incredibly generous with their time by telling us about the sanctuary and introducing us to the pigs and horses, and Sharon cooked an amazing breakfast. Vegan bed and breakfast. Hang with piggies and horses. Loved every minute! My husband and I spent our honeymoon here. It was magical! We met Dina and the pigs on arrival. Every morning, the piggies get fed at 8am. Dina cooks a delicious, vegan breakfast every morning at 9am. It's close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and Shenandoah National Park, both of which have tons of day hikes or longer hikes. We spent the rest of the morning rubbing the piggies' bellies, walking the field with the horses, and playing with the farm cats. Had the weather been nicer, we could have walked all the trails in the almost 200 acre land too! We went to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home near Charlottesville. We plan to go back to visit The White Pig at least annually! read more

I never knew there was a vegan B&B in central Virginia until my boyfriend suggested a little vegan getaway. It thought it was a bit pricey and wasn't sure what to expect, but it was quite lovely. When we arrived, there were keys for us with more information about the house and property, along with slices of homemade vegan pie, sherry and other snacks. There was free lemonade and water in the fridge, and bottles of local beers available for $1.75 a bottle. It was really nice to arrive to snacks. The property is huge and you can hike around it. We took a stroll around the property and stopped to see the half-dozen pigs who live there. There were also a couple of cats around. I loved that there were animals to visit with. When we got back to the house, we sat on the swing on the porch for a little while before heading into Charlottesville for dinner. This place is really in the middle of nowhere, and it makes it very serene. It's just very relaxing and quiet. We rented the Jacob Room, which has an incredibly comfortable king sized bed. I slept like a baby. The Jacob Room was a lovely, airy room upstairs with a huge window overlooking the back of the property. Even though there were other guests, it felt very private. The Jacob Room also has a lovely bathroom set up. It's divided into one small room with a toilet and sink, and a larger bathroom with an old clawed-foot tub and a sink. They also supply ample towels and vegan soaps and toothpaste, etc. At night, we turned on the hot tub outside and brought out some drinks in paper cups. The hot tub was a huge highlight. The breakfast in the morning was another highlight. We had the sweetest, juiciest grapefruit waiting for us at our tables. Fresh juices and coffee and homemade pancakes with berries and field roast sausages. yummmmm. I really didn't want to leave. I absolutely loved this place, and would go back if money were no object. My husband and I stayed at the white pig to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were even permitted to bring our dog! We stayed in the "cloud cottage" which was a lovely appointed cottage with everything we needed for a very comfortable stay! Our vegan breakfasts were delivered each morning and were delicious! Lots of fun destinations near by, including many wineries, devil's backbone, and bold rock cidery (lots of others). It was a perfect get away, and visiting the pigs was a total bonus. Beautiful house and beautiful property. We were also glad we were able to bring our dogs with us on our weekend getaway, since the cloud cottage was "dog friendly". The cottage itself was very cute, and had everything you need for a weekend stay. We only had one issue that quickly changed our opinion. The owner stopped by to see if we would like breakfast, and our dogs were outdoors playing. When I politely declined breakfast, she informed me that if our dogs wandered down off of the immediate property where the cottage was, they would be shot. I was taken aback and shocked so I just said, "Okay." Needless to for the rest of our weekend we were concerned for our dogs safety. Strange that a place with "frog crossing" signs would threaten to shoot my pets. read more

So, I'm not normally a bed and breakfast kind of person, but my son loves pigs, and I looked for somewhere relatively close to Richmond we could visit with some pigs and hopefully give our money to a cause that helps them as well. We really enjoyed our stay at The White Pig. The lodging was very comfortable and roomy and it was nice to unplug a little. The grounds are beautiful. And the pigs! So many pigs! I was amazed and my heart was a little overwhelmed by how many animals Dina has taken in and cared for. It it a obviously a lot of work and clearly a work of love. My son loved visiting with the pigs and other animals. I hope we can come back. I would definitely recommend visiting if you love animals and want to get away from it all for a little while. It's also within about 30 minutes from Charlottesville and some wineries and breweries. read more

We loved this stay. The owner, Dina was not only courteous and full of amazing stories of connections with pigs, but also an utterly amazing cook. Our room was not only super amazingly comfy bed and blanket wise but the view of the horses was amazing (The Norman room). The first morning we had a grapefruit and strawberry starter. This then was greeted with an onion and broccoli vegan quiche and then some savory and not at all oily roasted potatoes. We opted for lunch and had some amazing vegan turkey sandwiches on what I think was like a farmhouse seeded breaded and some an chips and bananas. She then brought some fresh amazing cookies we regretfully forgot to bring with us as an evening snack. That night we voyaged to Devils Backbone Brewing Company where the veggie burgers were an ok falafel style burger but we would go back. There is such an atmosphere there that you sit around an outdoor firepit with strangers and just feel relaxed. Even employees from a neighboring cidery were amongst the crowd. The next morning we awoke to a fresh peach yogurt and strawberry cup to be followed by almost unfinishably large Belgium waffles covered in fresh fruits. We bought lunch for the drive home there too and went home with some fantastic texture and flavor wise, overflowingly good, vegan chicken salad sandwiches and chips. I highly recommend this get away for anyone who needs to disconnect from outside and reconnect with that special person. We had such a lovely stay here. The property is beautiful and the horses and many many friendly pigs (more than I had anticipated) were so nice to watch and pet. We stayed in the Jacob room, but all of the rooms that we saw in the pink house were lovely. We loved bathing in the claw foot tub. The breakfast was delicious. We had yogurt, juice and tea to start, then blueberry pancakes with fresh fruit and vegan sausage. We left with full bellies for sure. Stayed one night here in the olive room with my fiancee. We had a great time. The b&b is very cozy and charming. It's a tad pricey but the price includes a fine breakfast, hot tub, and short walking trails on the property. The pigs and cats living there are awesome. Nearby you can go kayaking/canoeing, go to Monticello, or check out other things in the Charlottesville area. It is a nice getaway (albeit a slightly expensive one) for nearby city folks! read more

My partner and I stayed at The White Pig Bed and Breakfast for a five day retreat (6/4/2016- 6/8/2016) to get away from the quick pace of city life and to enjoy a relaxing and quiet week. Our time at The White Pig was a magical experience to say the least. It is certainly a vegan oasis, but it is truly an oasis for anyone! The living spaces are beautiful and welcoming, the breakfast is stellar, the grounds are beautiful, and most of all, the sanctuary residents will make your day! We stayed in the Cloud Cottage and enjoyed the serenity of a secluded space that overlooked the Blue Ridge Mountains from a perfect screened in porch. It rained on and off many of the days we were there, but we enjoyed drinking vegan wine from the romance package on the screened in porch and watching the rain. It was perfect. The cottage comes with all of the kitchen amenities you could need including (but not limited to) a cooking pot, coffee maker, dishes, knives, spoons and forks, and a very large personal refrigerator (stocked with coffee, water, and ice). We packed food so we did not have to leave the grounds and it worked out perfectly- we made our lunches and dinners daily! We absolutely LOVED the VHS and DVD selection that comes with the entertainment center. It is not often that you get to enjoy the nostalgia of using a VHS player AND have a really fun selection of films. We ate breakfast every morning at the farm house so we took a five minute walk from the cottage to the farm house and it is a beautiful stroll- down a tree lined gravel road you will enjoy smelling the fresh mountain air and hearing and seeing birds. Vegans and non-vegans alike, rejoice! The food is phenomenal- fresh fruit daily and a main course ranging from a frittata to waffles! The White Pig was a perfect retreat because the grounds are beautiful and a breath of fresh air from city life. As I mentioned, my partner and I did not leave the grounds and we spent the days walking nature trails (outlined on a wonderful little map provided by The White Pig), enjoying quality time with the sanctuary residents, capturing natural photography, reading, and watching films. The grounds provide treelined walk ways, rolling hills, as well as mountain views. The greenery is peaceful and beautiful and there are butterflies everywhere! Of course, our absolute favorite part of The White Pig is the sanctuary. We had a tour on our first day and enjoyed hearing the stories of the pig and horse residents. We had the opportunity to spend time with the residents each day! They are beautiful and inspiring beings and it was absolutely delightful to spend each day with them and get to know them! I cannot recommend this beautiful sanctuary enough! read more

My girlfriend from DC booked this place for us and it was a mistake. Deena the hotelier was nice. Other than that I was unimpressed with the place and the location. Not worth the trip if you want to be in Charlottesville. Really, really, far away from anything. The town of Lovingston has a couple of restaurants but none are notable. Hiking is pretty far away as is Devil's Backbone brew pub. The place itself is mediocre too. Kind of nice in a run down sort of way. Make no mistake it is a farm in the middle of nowhere. Follow up: I am from Chicago my girlfriend is from DC, did you even read my comments above? I stand by what I said, it would be a great place if you just want to read a book but other than that it is nice but run down, in the middle of nothing, close to nowhere, no restaurants, bars, nightlife or historic sites except we visited the Walton TV show museum which was nice but run down too. read more

We stayed here a couple of years ago, when we traveled to Charlottesville for the Vegetarian Festival. This place is out in the middle of "nowhere", but that's a good thing! The owners live in a house next door to the B&B. We got settled in, and found out that we were the only guests that evening. The owner (can't remember her name) cooked us dinner, and then left us alone for the evening! That dinner....MAN. I still think about the (faux) scallops she made. So good. And we also had some kind of chocolate pie thing for dessert. We were free to watch dvd's in the living room. The room we were in was very nice- the bed was super comfortable. We stayed in the "Olive Room". There are lots of animals on the land, including alot of pigs, cats and dogs. I would go back for the food alone! All the food is totally vegan. Oh, the next morning's breakfast was this awesome HUGE frittata. SO much good food! read more

I would highly recommend the white pig to anyone in need of a getaway. It was such a relaxing place to be and so much better knowing everything was vegan! We stayed in the Olive room which was really beautiful. Dina served us parfaits and waffles one morning and grapefruit and pancakes the other. She left out afternoon snacks of chocolate peanut butter pie and cupcakes and what seemed like endless snack and drink options. We really enjoyed the hot tub and all the beautiful scenery. We were the only guests at The White Pig for a two night weekend getaway. It was very relaxing. We stayed in the Jacob room, which was comfortable, with huge windows on three sides. My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at The White Pig for a weekend getaway. If you are looking for a peaceful, serene, get-away-from-the-rat-race destination, this is the place. We booked the Anastasia room and enjoyed our private living room and private rooftop deck. The entire B&B was clean and inviting. We had fun meeting the resident animals, including dogs, cats, pigs, and horses. Dina was very nice and made a lovely vegan breakfast for us each morning and even left out snacks, including some delicious vegan cupcakes. Even if you are not vegan, this place should not be missed. We had breakfast with a couple that was staying in the cottage on the premises. They weren't vegan and loved The White Pig as much as we did. There are a lot of hiking trails in the nearby national forests. We drove 45 minutes to Crabtree Falls and had a great hike in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. We will definitely be back to explore more of the area and enjoy the hospitality that The White Pig and its owner, Dina, extended to us. read more
