This inn is truly unique, especially for this area. Having just been to Germany in April, the first thing that crossed my mind as a I walked through the place was this looked very much like I was walking through the streets of Munich.
We stayed in the Captain's quarters which had great views of the surrounding woods, although it was a bit foggy and we really couldn't see too much, but had the fog not been there, I am confident, the views would have been amazing.
So the inn itself is actually set up like a small village. You enter through what looks and feels like the back of the inn. It looks like a construction zone and to be honest, isn't the most inviting because we couldn't really tell whether we were in the right place and it didn't look like it was open. As you go into the inn, you immediately pick up that European feel and you can easily tell that a lot of work went into the details. The lobby is all wood with a fireplace, some chairs, coffee maker, microwave, etc.
The Captain's Quarters was small and quaint with lots of smaller windows, one of which looked like it faced directly into the lobby, but that was easily solved by closing the blinds. The bed was very comfortable and they had Dish service with plenty of channels (unlike hotels that only a series of crappy channels). The bathroom was really nice and large and had everything we needed. The climate controls weren't centralized and the remote control was confusing and I probably could have used a quick lesson on how to use it, but it wasn't too cold or hot, so I guess I figured it out okay.
Once out of the room, it's kind of like you're in a castle, the lobby is to the right, more rooms down the hall to the left. Go down some stairs and there is a dining room where they serve the breakfast (which is really good...especially the homemade granola), there is a theater room that had some couches, blankets, stuff like that, and a modestly furnished gym.
All in all, I liked the place and wish we could have stayed a bit longer, but the lack of cell service made me feel as if I was cut off from the outside world. They do have WiFi, but it's unsecured and a bit spotty and I had quite a few problems connecting and stating connected.
The hosts were definitely hospitable and friendly, so all things considered, I'd definitely go back. read more
