You'd probably leave with some sort of skin rash but the place has some cool bands that roll through.

Best bar for punk, metal and cheap beer. Best bartender too. The Houston scene now revolves around this holy place.

This is an okay place. It's good to listen to local artists but there's not much to this place. Super small and they have no liquor.

There is a cover charge of $10 for most of the performances but if you check out their website and the calendar, some of the shows are free also. The crowd is mixed but as would be expected with the genre of music, it's older - I would guess the average age of the crowd on the night I was there was 50-60 but they were getting down and having a good time so that's the important part! Parking kind of sucks here so I would suggest coming in early and if you find something in the parking lot or by the mechanic shop, back your car in because people will likely park behind you and it'll be pretty tight getting out later. There is also street parking around the neighborhoods but check the signs to make sure you don't need a permit.

Ambiance (3/5): Dan Electros is located in a residential neighborhood. They have a relatively small parking lot and it was completely full on a Wednesday. We ended up parking on the street a block or two away. Initially, I wasn't too impressed. Dan Electros has a gravel parking lot. Never a fan. It gets your car dirty and your shoes dirty. When you walk in though, you're entering a dive bar with some character. It's tough to describe what that is exactly but it's something you feel. Dan Electros hosts a lot of live music and they have a small dance floor. If you're into live music, as I am, this may be the spot for you. They also have a pool table which is always a plus in my book. Service (4/5): I ordered a drink at the bar. I was greeted promptly and received my drink promptly. When I later went back to the bar to close out, I was able to do so without much effort. Solid experience overall. Food (N/A): I didn't have any food as I had dinner prior, but I don't think they have food anyway. I'm not 100% though. Drinks (4/5): For a dive bar, Dan Electros has a cool menu with some interesting cocktails and a good beer list. Even at a dive bar, it's nice when you can order more than just beers and simple cocktails. With that said, I had a beer. When in Rome.

I don't remember them serving food while I was there, but the drinks were definitely flowing. The bartender was friendly and quick with the mixes -- no long waits at the bar, which is always a plus when the place starts getting busy. The energy really picked up once the house music got going. The DJ kept the crowd moving, and the whole space felt lively without being overwhelming. I also appreciated that they had plenty of seating, including booths for groups who wanted to sit back, catch up, and still enjoy the music. I hadn't been to WHL since before the pandemic so I was looking forward to coming back. This place is pretty much the same as it's always been. The one difference is the raised VIP area near the sound board. I'm not sure how long that's been there, but it looks like it may be worth spending the extra money. It's a raised platform with a couple of reserved tables. The drinks are still pretty reasonably priced. A Deep Eddy with tonic is $8 which is less than House of Blues. The music was really loud last night. The sound was more clear on the left side. We saw Teddy Swims and he was fantastic! Security is much more relaxed than at HOB. They don't check vaccine cards and don't have any mask rules. They barely search your bag and they didn't have any explicit bag size policies like HOB. We were able to get street parking since it was a Tuesday night. We had parked in a lot next door, but the parking was $20 so we went and moved the car. The lot had a pay station so it wasn't advertised that it was $20 until we went to put in the license plate info. I'm glad that WHL survived the pandemic. It's one of my preferred music venues in Houston.

It has a bar and merchandise table next to the stage and there's plenty of standing room to watch the performance. Standing only from what I saw so wear your most comfortable shoes. Location is in EaDo next to a few bars and eats so it makes for an adventurous night in town. Look forward to more shows here; now they need to book some solid upcoming artists!

Luckily, two people next to us did not show up so we could have a seat between us. Otherwise it was shoulder to shoulder. That's the only improvement they need to make. Lots of nice bars and seating along the sides of the venue which allows you to hear the music. The restrooms were small and only 2 were working which made for a long line.
