Steven, Kendra, and Quiara have been amazing--they feel like family and truly care about the community and residents. The property is well-managed, secure, and has courteous neighbors, with no issues like smoking in the hallways. I've lived in three other properties in the area, and this team is the best. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but the quality is worth it. If you have complaints, maybe consider moving elsewhere--like Tacoma! read more

Just noticed more illegal activity in the garage and on the property. I chatted with Whole Foods customer service since they are the anchor and I was told by someone at Whittaker in the past that WF is the garage owner. WF denied this. I asked Grace for more information on who owns or is responsible for the garage. As I said before, no response. There have been crimes in the garage in the past. No one seems to care about being proactive or for input from customers, neighbors. Can't say I'm surprised. read more

This is the second time I have lived at the Whittaker. The first time was pre-pandemic in the 2019-2020 time-frame for the 2 years. At that time, I met Oliver, a maintenance enigneer employed by The Whittaker. He is still here with his family, doing his best to repair and fix the broken items. I have read the reviews of others, and while I can agree with a few, my overall takeaway for you is this, The Whittaker is a great place to live today in part because of the friendly and helpful rental staff in the south building. Stand-outs are Kendra Santos and Quiara Morris, both of whom work the weekends. They are part of a new leasing management staff. Seattle is my hometown, so my perspective is as a native, more or less. I love the rain, the snow in the mountains, and the cold. Steel-grey skies are second-nature to me. Many folks are not happy with any of that, and tend to take it out on the apartment complex for some reason. As we usher in a new City Council that plans to be harsher on crime, particularly open drug use, we have seen a noticeable drop in "vagrant folks", as others have termed them, at the front doors of the complex. In fact, as I personally meet my neighbors, I start to understand and like them more. Some will always be stand-offish. If you go looking for evil, you will find it. If you like people (like I do), you will also find them. I can say it has been initially difficult to pay the rent here, however I am happy with my situation on the 3rd floor, a quiet area on the terrace patio, surrounded by trees, bamboo, and native prairie grasses of Alki (Alki was originally a prairie that rose out of Puget Sound in 930 CE). As a senior citizen returning to his hometown, I find living here somewhat challenging, but in a good way. Seattle has change since I moved away temporarily. We could argue forever if that change was for the good. But I feel fortunate that I am here, now. I try to minimize my lifestyle in the spirit of Greta Thunberg, the climate youth activist whom I have learned much from. I am in observer-mode, not activist-mode. Keeping to myself, mostly. I head to LA Fitness, next door, in the morning after Buddhist meditation, then a veggie Beck Omelet at Easy Street Records with plenty of Aardvark Sauce and their fantastic bottomless cup of coffee. You couldn't ask for a more convienent Rapid Ride C-Line bus stop, right across the street. The Alki-Othello 50 is my favorite bus, down to the beach and The Admiral Theater. That bus stop has transformed with the new city council and law enforcement minimizing open drug use. So, there it is, a fine place to live if you can afford it. A garden terrace on the third floor with free WiFi for tenants. And below us, a Whole Foods and a Trade Joe's with the best veggies around. read more

The leasing manager does not care if you're being stalked or if you've been harassed in the building. He is on an ego trip, denies residents from their basic rights despite incidents being on site and police being involved and reported to regarding the incidents. I have proof of communications and also proof of incidents that have made this building an unsafe and hostile property to live in however, the leasing manager wants to ensure that he just gets his way. Their leasing office staff have also admitted to have received multiple complaints about individuals and mentioned that police had been called. My apartment door in their South building had been kicked on, attempted to be unlocked. My wife has been stalked multiple times that we have even reported to them and the police, however this one particular leasing manager Steven feels the need to show his power trip by disregarding all of that. They like to deprive tenants of their basic rights as per Washington's Residential Landlord-Tenant Act. Will definitely be taking it much further up the chain along with taking them to court this time as I have a 1 week old baby and a 15 month old toddler and despite knowing and admitting very well that it is unsafe, they want to hold firm to their stance! It's annoying enough that you have to walk through a stinky parking garage that randomly floods to get between the North and South building, but security is rude. The wine room, which has no signs posted, apparently closes at ten. So while reading a book and sipping wine at 10:30 pm, a blaring voice (it was so loud it literally hurt my ears) came on announcing she was not a recording demanding we leave immediately and come back during business hours. The stairwells consistently smell like piss, the lobby to the parking garage smells like dust, elevators are constantly out of order, and while the leasing ladies are nice, they can't make up for the lack of luxury that excudes from their holes in security. I have legit seen homeless people sleeping in the stairwell as well as doors that don't close to the outside, but they are worried about residents who pay way too much as it is using the amenities "out of hours". 10/10 would not recommend. update: your response was as trash as the smell in the parking garage, where another car was broken into just this week. whoever is in charge of responding here takes no accountability for the lack of safety at these apartments. I saw a grown man cry in the elevator bc his car was broken into. you care about what time people are using unlocked amenities but homeless ppl sleep in the stairwells at all hours and security does nothing. rent is too high for peoples cars to be broken into this regularly. the leasing people are nice but who every runs yelp and security: do better read more

I'd like to first start out with the positives. Whenever there is an issue with appliances or maintenance issues, the janitorial staff is helpful and fixes the problem. I appreciated their friendly and courteous demeanors. I liked that the apartment complex was across the street from the gym and stores, huge plus for having Whole Foods beneath the building. I liked that there was an amazing view of the Seattle downtown landscape. The staff members grow plants and herbs up on the rooftop, which was cool to see their process alongside this chill spot that offers BBQ's, lounge chairs, and fire pits. There's a small gym as well which has been convenient during the pandemic and cold rainy days. There aren't many variations of equipment but it's better than nothing. I'd also say that their prices were a lot more affordable than pre-COVID. The apartments are nice inside, some have quarts countertops. Some layouts make the units appear smaller and aren't as aesthetically pleasing because everything is crammed in for example some of the units have their kitchen in the hallway which makes it very tight. A few units will have balconies while others offer Juliet's, and others will just have windows. With the positives, there are also negatives. There were a plethora of vagrants who would congregate and loiter in front of the main entrance and it would wreak of smoke and nasty other smells. They'd litter all around the property which is an issue if you have a pet and don't want them to unknowingly ingest something. I'd like to note that although this is West Seattle, there's been an alarming amounts of crime and also lots of loud noises. My friends who live in units facing the street typically get the worst of the street noise including angry, restless, and belligerent homeless folks. I also began noticing lots of unfamiliar faces coming in and out of the building, letting others in, especially younger people who barely looked of age for drinking and were partying until about 1am in the Apex Lounge. Mind you, they hauled in their own large speaker to film a music video (also during a pandemic, so there were plenty of non-residents disturbing sleep). I notified Whittaker security only to be informed that they couldn't do anything and to call the police. Not to mention, there is typically a pet fee in addition to DNA test $60 I believe for each animal residing in the residence. Pets aren't allowed anywhere in the building like the common lounges or the courtyard. They get to walk through hallways, stairs, and hang out in the apartment all day. There aren't any grassy areas on site, you'd have to take them to Alki or Lincoln Park. Even the grassy park down the road is reserved for kids and sports, owners will be ticketed for having their pets there. Having paid $125 each PER vehicle in a gated garage yet there were times it was broken, left wide open, so anyone come and go through this way. Our neighbor's S2K was defaced and there was no responsibility taken to acquire video surveillance. One lasting bad taste they left was how nonchalant they were about a break in robbery. I'm sure no-one was notified about this. My friend was out of town a few months ago and someone had broken into their unit, and stole valuable and sentimental items. The door was not fixed right away and we both found it odd that there was no warning sent out because this was a huge breach of safety and extremely interesting that neighbors did not reach out to the Whittaker about this invasion of privacy. I'm sure I can find more things to elaborate on, however, this is what I can recall for the time being. read more

TLDR summary- just keep looking elsewhere This review is for the North building not the main building where the management office is. I've been here for 2 months and regret moving into this building. The neighborhood is great but there are a dozen other buildings in a few block radius; pick one of them. Management exhibits a lack of information and knowledge. When I toured they didn't understand when I asked about composting and garbage/recycling room. They don't know when elevators or hot water go out for hours. When I asked why the prior tenant was being billed for water/sewer/garbage my email wasn't answered, so I went to the office in person and it turned out the tenant information feed to the w/s/g billed had stopped working 2 months prior. Vendors do maintenance work with no review or follow up (hallway carpet cleaning left hair piles that resembled dead mice all throughout the halls, sat there for 3 days). North building suffers from management not being present in the building or communicating with residents. We've had an elevator down for 3 weeks now. I got 5 emails about the payment app change but still no word on elevators. Power went down Saturday night at 2 am and now 12 hours later we still have no hot water. The North building has no garbage room so all oversized garbage and large recycling must be carried out to the dumpsters in the alley. There is only one package room for both buildings and it's located in the main building (but we have 2 useless business conference rooms in the north building). Between the packages and lack of garbage room I spend far too much time in that alley. Units are fine but not high quality. Tiny drawers in kitchen (can't fit a utensil organizer tiny), kitchen counters that stain and smudge, screen door that fell off onto unit below, washer that put itself in a coma (maintenance told me it was due to wet lint, huuuuuhhh?), and flooring glue throughout the unit from the installation before I moved in. Soundproofing is inadequate ; I get to hear every footstep above me and their bed wakes me up when they have sex. So just go elsewhere, there are plenty of options. read more

I seldom write reviews but I think the Whittaker deserve a 5-star review. The staff is amazing and very helpful. They have went above and beyond on multiple occasions to assist me. Something I've never experienced with the previous apartment complex I used to live in. I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews on here. This is a multi family residential building that has over 300 apartments. Of course things will break and go out of service. The staff always does a good job with communicating to residents. I had the opportunity to speak to the staff about some of the issues at the property through out my 3 years living here and I can say that they are doing the best that they can to address the issues. They helped me understand some of the things that went on at the property and quite frankly, they are outside of their control. There are multiple moving parts behind the scene that I didn't understand until they explained it to me. All I have to say is, there is always two side to the story and we need to be open minded. Also, it's worth noting that the building is shared with retail spaces on the first floor, so sometimes the Whittaker management would need to coordinate with them to get things fixed since the retail spaces is managed by another company. This can sometime delay things. Overall, I love living here I would recommend anyone to live here. read more

Kendra has been an amazing advocate for my move-in, she really worked with me the whole way through. Kendra remembered all my requests for an apartment to the last detail, as nothing was available at the time of my inquiry. She really listened to all my needs & delivered within a few weeks time! I have absolutely loved living here! The Whittaker is located in the best area in West Seattle. The junction is right up the street. So many groceries stores nearby including Whole Foods below us (super convenient). I never have to use my car to get around. The amenity spaces are beautiful. I had friends over for a bbq in the rooftop and they loved seeing the Seattle skyline. Management and maintenance are super friendly and they are always so speedy in assisting. My wife and I just moved out of The Whittaker after breaking our lease - we were only there for 8 months before we decided we couldn't take it anymore. While the property management has attempted to fix some of the issues I'll list below, it's pretty clear that they are restricted from offering more generous concessions by their corporate regional office. This is a very misleading property, with lackluster responses to problems and a pretty clear disdain for going above and beyond for their residents (again, due to the corporate office, not the onsite employees, who were generally very friendly and attempted to be helpful to the best of their abilities). Here's a summary of the problems because Yelp has a word limit. - Fire alarms on a weekly basis at all hours of the day and night (literally at 2am sometimes) - Marijuana smoke in the hallways and stairwells - Horribly thin walls (could hear neighbors screaming obscenities at each other and having loud sex at all hours of the night. Management refused to do anything even after issuing them multiple 10-day notices.) - Continuous issues with the "secured garage" and no concessions. Waste of money. - Dirty amenities (BBQs always dirty, sometime not working) - Insanely slow elevators. Do not live here. It's not nearly worth the money and you can find so much better value elsewhere. read more

I have been living in a studio unit since day 1 of the north tower opening, and I've got to say, I cannot stress how much I love living in such a convenient location with so much around. That being said however, the amount of inconveniences I've dealt with has been insanely absurd. If you enjoy living somewhere that claims to be "pet friendly", you'll love the consistency of pet accidents about the lobbies and/or elevators. If you enjoy receiving threatening emails from staff for overly strict "amenities rules being broken" that have no relevance towards you, this is the place for you. If you enjoy constant fire alarms in the middle of the night and day, this is the place for you. The North tower lobby alarm is always broken an beeping. The North tower lobby staircase entry is locked, therefore, the only way to go "up" is to take the elevator, which makes no sense because you can access it from ANY other floor, including the garages. There is always garbage strewn about the P2 parking garage. As someone who became self employed recently, and works late through the night, I have received multiple "noise complaints" according to staff, and a warning to "vacate the premise" should more complaints be received, yet have not once been informed OR warned at all for such. This not only has put me at unease, but now has me questioning how easily noise travels through walls, especially without having a way of gauging through feedback or warnings. When confronting one of the managers around the issue, I pointed out I had never once been approached or warned for this sudden, out-of-nowhere and recent noise complaints until now, to which their response was uncertain and confused? What I'd like to understand is, do all residents only receive a sudden "warning/threat to vacate the premises if one does not comply within 10 days" as a solution? RIDICULOUS. Lastly, you have to pay $125 for private parking, yet for 1) you do not have a dedicated/assigned parking slot, and 2) there seems to have been the same resident leaving the same rotting trash on the floor next to the P2 entrance. The resolution? Someone OR staff occasionally leaves a garbage bin in the same spot, rather than all the time, or finding a solution that isn't at the discretion of other residents to see/deal with. There is too much negative than positive to list, but these are the majority higher points I wanted to share, so to anyone that reads this review, and is looking to move into somewhere that hits on all the points of "Convenient, comfortable, clean, welcoming, good cost, and pet-friendly", DO NOT consider this location. This location IS however, only good for the fact that it's a "newer" building, is about to get a Whole Foods underneath, and has quite a few businesses around/within it, however, strip that away, it is an overly priced, at surface level "eye capturing" apartment complex. We just moved to Seattle last month, therefore we have not been in the apartment more than a month. We are paying basically a car payment to park in the garage and even leave our bikes locked in the resident garage. The appealing part of this apartment was that there was a secure access gate to even access that level of the garage (p2). That being said, it has been broken since before we moved in (which we were not told in our tour). Anyone can access the resident parking and resident lobbies to the south tower. The Whittaker has security walking around at night, however our $1,600 bike was stolen from the garage this week. Keep in mind we haven't even been here for a full month. We are extremely disappointed and frustrated with not being told up front that the gate had been broken when we were touring and that anyone can access a space we are paying so much to use. The leasing office states they will look at footage to provide in a police report and that the gate is being replaced. However, keep this in mind if you are thinking about moving in and paying so much to park. read more

I've lived at The Whittaker over 2 years now and just singed another 14 month lease. I find the office staff to always be engaging & friendly, the grounds are always clean and the amenities are top notch (only seen amenities as nice as this in 5 Star Hotels). When reading other reviews about trash the first thing that comes to mind is we are all adults and need to clean-up after ourselves (can't blame lazy residents on the management team). The Whittaker offers very clean buildings, the cleaning staff is here 4/5x a week (that I see), friendly and keep the place spotless. The location is spot on. I personally do not have a vehicle and who needs one when LA Fitness, Trader Joe's (soon to be Whole Foods) and all of the California Junction is all within walking distance (blessing to work from home). For someone who works from home, this is a very quiet building. I do NOT hear my neighbors - music/tv/conversations - ever (and I'm here almost 24/7). I look forward to another 14 months at The Whittaker. read more

Stay away from the Whittaker. The apartments are overpriced and are not worth it with what you get in the end. At first glance, they look nice. But after living there for a bit, you'll begin to scratch your head at their poorly thought out design. The apartments are made to look nice but they are not functional. The amenities are nice, if you use them. Most of the time, they weren't used. So if you're thinking "oh what a nice view this rooftop has!" DO NOT BE FOOLED. You know what else has a nice view of downtown? Virtually every hill in Seattle. The utilities are a scam. The apartment building tallies up all the charged utilities for every renter and then you pay a portion of that. Once I moved out, my utilities became a 1/3 of what I was paying at the Whittaker. They don't have air conditioning either so during summer, you will roast. Lastly, the people who work at the Whittaker get a gold star in incompetence. I have never seen more managers leaving this place for other ventures. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place and do not be fooled by all the amenities they lure you in with. read more

If you think I'm just being sensitive please read my other reviews. I've never rated anything else poorly ever. Its so looks pretty and the prices are competitive but... Did one of your neighbors make toast? Oh you'll know. Not only will you smell everything your neighbors do(EVERYTHING), but you'll hear every footstep. Did they mention the building construction starts every morning at 7am? It will sound like a drill into your floorboards on that one day you decide to stay home with a migraine at 7am and will last until 5pm. So you think you'll finally have peace after 5pm? Hahahah nope! That's when the fire alarms start. Calibrated to the highest sensitivity most night you'll hear them chiming away. The Whittaker also doesn't control anything the construction crews do. To give an example of why this causes problems I was on vacation for a long weekend when I saw an email stating that all cars in the garage would be towed if they weren't moved by the following morning. I contacted them and they not only weren't sympathetic, they said they might force me, to pay the towing fee. I asked if I could move out 21 days early months from now (see above for reasons) and they told me they will fine me two months rent for doing that. Basically they are a corporation that cares nothing for me or you. They want the most profit they can get so they get you in with the pretty design and the good price and put no effort into keeping you happy, because they've got lawyers to make as much money off you moving out as staying there happily. Edit: They said they would never have charged me for the tow. That is a lie. Here is the exact words from their email. You will be towed at your own expense. I have the email still if anyone doubts they are lying. Beware! "There will be construction work going on in P1 Wednesday & Thursday this week (June 28th & 29th) for the retail spaces and with the kind of work that will be taking place, ALL cars will need to be removed from the parking garage by 7AM on Wednesday June 29th. If they are not removed, you will be towed at your own expense. You will not be able to park there at all until the work is done Thursday evening. We will let everyone know when it is available again to use." read more

Picking a place to call home was very important to us. I love living here for many reasons and am currently reconsidering if I should sign a new lease here. I'll list some things we love and things to consider so you can make an informed decision. Note, your experience can vary greatly depending on which unit you get, and who your neighbors are. Pros: 1. A+ Gym 2. Awesome Location - Right next to 24 fitness, Orange Theory, medical center, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, California Ave, MOD Pizza, nail salon, etc. 3. Near public bus stops. Note, Amazon Shuttle doesn't stop here anymore. It used to stop right in front but now it's 6 blocks away. We mainly picked this spot in the beginning because the Amazon shuttle was right in front. 4. Lots of beautiful resident spaces for parties, studying, etc. Many apartments only have 1 space so this has been very helpful. If one room is taken, you can always go to another. You can also reserve rooms for $50/hr. 5. The apartments are very nice, modern and new. Washer/dryer in unit. I feel this is the main thing you're paying for. 6. All the staff are really nice. The maintenance team is just amazing, quick, and always fixing/updating stuff. cleaning staff and front desk staff are all nice and always quick. 7. Resident events are nice - waffle saturdays, thanksgiving, pizza nights, etc. One recommendation to the staff is to have more diverse food and diverse themes for events. 8. Guests can park in free 2/hr street parking or in P1. (garage not for overnight though) 9. There are so many cute dog and cats who live in this building! :) **Things to know before you move in. These are not deal breakers but more good to knows) On top of your rent, you have to pay for parking ($125 per spot), Luxor package receiving system ($150 per year and you cannot opt out), and pet rent. The deposit is reasonably priced, I believe it was $500. Street parking is almost always full and 2 hour max during the day, so it's best to get a paid parking spot. Not gonna lie, the apartments are expensive. For the same rate, you can easily rent a house in West Seattle. They do raise the price for lease renewals which is why we're considering moving. Fire alarms - In the 9 months we've been living here, we've had at least 7 fire alarms in the middle of the night (2-4am). They are excruciating loud - it feels you'll go deaf. Some people get earplugs for their kids. Parking - The parking garage door has been broken almost the entire time we've been living here, which means no security. This is a bummer as we're paying $125 per month a high amount considering many places in West Seattle have much lower rates. They try to fix it, but progress is slow and they haven't found a reliable system yet. Management should do the right thing and consider waiving it or discount the parking fee til it's actually fixed. If you have a luxury car, this may be concerning considering the amount of traffic this building receives. I have a basic car so I don't worry. Some spaces can be tight so my car has been scratched a few times by the concrete, but the spaces are still much bigger than DT Seattle. We now have assigned parking spots which helps. The entry to all building doors and elevators almost always smell like dog urine and doesn't get hosed down regularly. This is due to the high number of pet owners here. There are dog poop bags around the premises for free. I'd recommend to Management to have the outside of building doors cleaned/hosed down more regularly. Although this isn't a deal breaker for me, it is something to consider and is a serious sanitary issue. Regarding noise, we're super lucky to have quiet neighbors so we don't have noise issues like the other reviews. Occasionally we hear the children from above our unit running around but it doesn't bother us. We like to stay at home and it's nice and quiet most days. We can easily understand how noise can be an issue for other residents who live near louder neighbors. Although the apartment is pet-friendly, you can't really bring your pets to any of the amenity areas as there are no pet signs in all the outdoor resident spaces. This makes sense, as it can start smelling pretty terribly like the outside of the building real quickly. We don't have any pets so that's good for us but it's something for folx with pets to consider. read more

I've lived at the Whittaker with my girlfriend and our cat since the North phase opened last September. We had searched all around West Seattle and settled on the Whittaker mainly due to the location (close to Trader Joe's and QFC, close to the bus line, close to California Ave, etc etc) and the beautiful leasing office. Sarah was great - super helpful, listened to all of our needs and wants, helped up pick out the perfect place, made everything so easy! The amenities are great - we spend many summer evenings sitting on the huge rooftop deck enjoying a beverage or a quick meal. The grills can get busy on the weekends, but everyone we've interacted with has been friendly and accommodating. The gym is really awesome and they keep adding more things in there - we've been known to close the barn doors and do some yoga or cycling on the Wellbeats system. I love our apartment, top floor, west-side. It has been getting hot, so this summer might be tough, but who's going to complain about sunshine! As far as the complaints from others - I don't really hear noise (top floor probably helps that) other than the occasional vibrations from my downstairs neighbors video game sessions and the strange singing homeless man that's taken up residence next to Jiffy Lube. My biggest pet peeve is the pot smoker down the hall that makes the whole hallway smell, but that's calmed down since they first moved in, so I can only assume the office is doing their thing. DOG LOVERS BEWARE - If you are looking for a pet friendly community who cares about its tenants this is not the property for you! I have been living at the Whittaker in West Seattle for the last 2 months and have been dealing with issues from building management regarding an apparent issue from my emotional support animal barking before and after quiet hours and during the day. I have received an email, 2 phone calls and a 10 day cease and desist letter, then a call on 07/26/18 to let me know the building had no choice but to evict me because of the noise complaints that were coming in to management. The building manager agreed to let me break my lease and give my 20 day notice as long as the barking stopped. I had been suspicious that the barking was not an issue coming from my dog as I don't leave my apartment in the morning until after 9am (quiet hours are over) and I'm home before quiet hours start. There is also a dog below my apartment that howls at all hours of the day and times where when we have gotten calls or emails about my pet when either me or my ex boyfriend have been home at the time. Camilia informed me that her staff has seen my dog "multiple" times from the window in our unit barking incessantly which is conflicting information because 4 of the 5 times we were contacted about a noise disturbance we have been home with our dog. I received a phone call from said manager (Camilia) today saying that my dog was "howling again". My dog was at WORK with me today.. Clearly embarrassed she quickly apologized and ended the call. I'm assuming the same person who has been making these complaints heard the same dog barking again which today have proven it was not my dog. The amount of stress the staff at this building has caused me in the last 2 weeks has been astronomical. I was fully prepared to stay at the Whittaker and finish out my lease but instead had to completely uproot my life scrambling to find an apartment and put down a deposit so I can move out within the 20 days that was agreed upon. I am new to this state and have had family already purchase airline tickets to fly out and help me move. I have NEVER received a complaint about my dog barking at any property I have lived at. After meeting with the manager and venting my frustration at the situation I received zero sympathy and essentially just a shrug. Even after she admitted that she was new to this property and didn't do a proper investigation said there really wasn't anything they could do and "at least" I didn't have to pay to break my lease. Unbelievable. Side note: I have an emotional support animal with ALL of the supporting documentation for him. I provided the office this documentation and was told that the doctors note I had was "expired" and just like a drug prescription I would need a new one before they would accept it. I explained to them that my primary care physician was in Utah where I moved from and did not have a doctor here in WA they told me that their lawyer? Needed me to provide a new doctors note or they would not be able to accept my ESA. So long story short I had to find a new doctor and cross my fingers and hope they would grant a new patient they were meeting for the first time a note for my ESA which I was lucky I as able to get. This property is extremely pet unfriendly. No pets allowed in any of the common areas. Your pet must be a certain amount of feet away from the building to use the bathroom, and they keep removing pet waste stations from around the building so residents are having to walk farther and farther away from the building to dispose of their pet waste. And the remarks in previous reviews about "threatening" emails being sent out? Completely true. The main priority of management here is to fill the units and not the people who live in them. I have never felt more unwelcome and been treated so poorly by a property in my entire life and greatly regret ever moving into the Whittaker. I still to this day have not received an apology. There are plenty of beautiful new buildings in the area with amazing amenities your pets can also enjoy I would steer clear of The Whittaker! read more

They constantly disregard you.... we pay $125 dollars for a "secure" parking garage and multiple times the garage door has been broken some times for weeks on end and they have straight up lied to us as residents twice. Once when during one of these times someone broke into my car and I filed a complaint because this is what happens when you don't fix the security door. I went to them and asked if that happened to anyone else and they straight up told me no ( because they didn't want to be liable) then a small world moment happens and a guy at my work is coming in because he is fixing $6000 in damages on his vehicle and come to find out he lives in my building and it happened in our garage the exact same weekend. They told us they would hire a security guard and that they would be in the garage, neverrrr happened. Then the garage is leaking some sort of fluid on multiple people's cars and they have yet to fix it. It's been doing this for months and people are starting to put towels on their cars because the management is doing nothing about it. I cannot get it off my car and I have put in a complaint in to have them call me. read more

The Whittaker - Apartments Near Me - Seattle, Washington

I just moved out of the Whittaker in July and they were very great in working with me near the end of my lease to extend it for an extra 30 days. I did not receive any of my deposit back, and owed them money, which was expected because my dogs are horrible. The charges were slightly above what I've ever experienced- my apartment required touch up paint which was $400. They replaced the whole bedroom/closet carpet for 'urine damage' (my dog had a few accidents and I used a professional carpet cleaner on it) for $600. A lot of my complaints are echoing what other people have said: -the building's fire alarm has gone off multiple times in the middle of the night and the communication regarding the reason why was lacking. -the least dog friendly apartment building I've ever lived in. You cannot bring your dog into any community space, there are no dog runs, and there's a pet rent and deposit. You also have to pay for 'PooPrints' to get a DNA sample of your dog to move in so they can test poop left around the property. -the animals that do live in the building pee and defecate everywhere. Instead of using the DNA samples to test the poop and fine the owners, threatening emails were sent to the whole building. -parking is frustrating. To park at the Whittaker, you're supposed to pay a few hundred and park on P2, behind a controlled access gate. They have 'future resident' parking which always had the same resident vehicle parked there, which never got ticketed so that resident parked for free. The alleys were FILLED with cars parked illegally, no one would ticket them or tow them. -the amenity space rules are a bit ridiculous. They close very early and I believe the guest limit is 2 per apartment. They have threatened to fine larger groups via email. -if you live in the south tower, it's very annoying to enter the building. Only two entrances, both on the same side of the building. Also you can't reserve an elevator to move in and out and the elevators are slow and small. Moving is hard. The location is very good though, so close to all the grocery stores and restaurants. Very close to the C Line, which is also convenient. read more

Being one of the first residents of the building... had to go through some of the opening growing pains but now that things have settled down (for now) I want to say that my living experience has been OK. It could be better though. The unit itself is very nice and we don't have too many issues with it. I live on the top floor and TYPICALLY don't hear anything from neighbors or those walking in the hallways. I do hear sounds that seem to be coming from the roof???? sometimes.. and that was annoying in the beginning but perhaps I have tuned it out now. I thought living on the top floor would finally rid me of noisy upstairs neighbors but perhaps not. The design of the bathrooms are a bit weird, as the light switch is a good 2.5ft in, so you kind of have to go into the bathroom in the dark before you can even turn on the light. I do not smell neighbor's cooking very often (unless you walk right by their apartment, maybe) like other reviews have stated. My other qualms with the building though are mostly echoed throughout the other reviews though. The P1 parking garage does not have controlled access for whatever reason... meaning that anybody can walk down the ramp, or park their car and gain access to the entire building. Strange. It looks like they are finally working on it but seems like a bit of an oversight right? Unfortunately what I have also learned is that you cannot get rid of yourself from trashy neighbors, no matter how much you pay for rent. I have lived in a few of these 'luxury' apartments now and the same issues always turn up, whether that is on management or not. People will go shopping at one of the very convenient grocery stores and take their carts and leave them outside of the building. Classy! People will allow their pet to pee and poop as they please and for whatever reason REFUSE to clean it up! Disgusting! Accidents happen and it is NOT hard to clean up but of course, they won't care. So perhaps a larger cleaning team would be great but then again, these people do not care and will continue to let their pets do as they please... it will happen anywhere you go really. The amenities are really nice. I just wish they did not close at 10pm (especially the gym). Perhaps it would be irresponsible to allow people to congregate in the amenity areas late night, for fear of disturbing the surrounding units, but the last few places I have lived at did not have any major issues with it and the ones that did pop up were solved immediately. My major issue is with the gym being closed at 10pm since it is very easy to work out quietly without disturbing others. For those who cannot fathom doing so, perhaps they should not be allowed in the gym past 10 and it is a shame that they have to ruin it for others. The biggest gripe of all is that with the opening of MOD pizza, parking is atrocious and cars fill up the alley way between the two towers and the masonic lodge. This was a non issue before MOD opened, but now they just let anybody park there. It is always congested and makes navigating this area very difficult and frankly dangerous. The roadway used to allow two cars so that the flow of traffic was smooth, but now with one lane of traffic filled completely with parked cars, it is a nightmare getting in there off of Fauntleroy. Pedestrians are walking by, if a car is already in the roadway one of you will have to allow room for the other to get out onto the street before coming in, etc... I could care less about the people that park closer to 40th ST since the volume of cars going in and out isn't as high, but it would be a god send if they just coned off another 20 feet so that cars could get in and out of there safely. When Whole Foods opens up, I fear that it will be disastrous out there. As a driver it is definitely frustrating, but as a pedestrian I have almost gotten ran over twice by people speeding through. The other entrance/exit is off of Edmunds St and while getting in there is a bit better, getting out is so dangerous! There are cars that park up to the drive way on both sides so visibility of cars coming down Edmunds and turning onto Edmunds from Fauntleroy is very bad. Well, seeing cars traveling West (down) on Edmunds is not completely awful, but people turning from Fauntleroy to go East (up the hill) are typically almost completely blocked by the cars that park down there. If they eliminated the front most spot, visibility would be improved ten fold. It is difficult for the oncoming car to see you coming out and so incredibly difficult to see any oncoming cars while you pull out that I am surprised there has not been an accident yet. The building has many staircases that are not accessible from outside the building so once you go out, can't get back in. Also those same staircases are locked on the first floor so if you are tired of waiting for the elevator you can't opt for the stairs instead. Why! read more

Finally - a luxury apartment comes to West Seattle! Everything from the design of the office to the resident lounge, lobby, and even mail room - the detail and ambience caught our attention right away. We were greeted by an overwhelmingly kind office staff - Chanel the leasing consultant, the property manager Ashley and assistant manager Lauren all came up to greet us and thank us for coming in. We were offered coffee and water and then started our tour. First of all - in a world where contractors are pressured to throw up a building and cram as many units as possible into them without regard to living space, I was shocked to see that this was not the case with The Whittaker. The floor plans are amazingly spacious, with HUGE ROOMS - walk in closets in both and large front loading washer and dryers. Bathrooms with beautiful wood framing the mirrors - truly an art statement. In addition to the beauty, they have amazing amenities. Their resident lounge is up a beautifully crafted 2-flight stair case, and it truly looks like a restaurant or billiards. Space for wine, entertaining, a dozen Café size tables and a fireplace in the middle - and free wifi! Their fitness center is still under construction but we were offered a subsidized LA Fitness membership (which is right across the street) until it is completed! Needless to say - we wanted in! We are so happy to be moving here and the first to review this place! The Whittaker is in the heart of everything we love in West Seattle and a Whole Foods is being built underneath it. My life is complete! This community was designed like a resort and that's exactly how it feels. I just moved in October 2019 and so far so good! The best place I have lived in Seattle so far! Great location! The building is always clean and tidy. The customer service is prompt and the people are super nice and accommodating. I have never heard the neighbors, the building is very quite. I love all the amenities including the roof top patio, games and dog wash station. There is always an event going on for the tenants where they service food and beverages, it's really nice. It is expensive to live here but I feel that it's worth it! read more

Edit** Camelia the new property manager reached out to me for a face to face conversation. She addressed my concerns and truly heard me out. I think she will turn this property around. I am changing my 1 star to a 3 because of her good customer service and care. I was the first person to live in my apartment and that was a really nice thing. Everything after that has been a truly terrible experience. My biggest issue is that I never felt like the people who run this business took ownership of any issues, they are very quick to point the finger at someone or something else. For example, if the fire alarm went off at 1AM and woke up all the residences (which happened 3 times in a year) they would send an email the next day blaming the businesses in the building. Or if they found dog pee in the hallway, they would send a threatening email to EVERYONE saying that they will 'charge us' or 'terminate our lease' if this continues to happen instead of just fining the person who left the mess in the first place. What would be nice is to see the Whittaker be proactive in helping their residents instead of pointing the fingers at everything else. Based on their comments on other yelp reviews I am seeing, I am curious if they will take my feedback and grow from it or make excuses to try and "community manage" this page and comment. On top of one bad experience after another, they are SO quick to try and take advantage of you financially. Honestly, if you want a nice place close to the junction, I would try Oregon 42. I would seriously not recommend the Whittaker to anyone that I like. The noise is horrible - you can literally hear everything in every apartment around you. Cooking. Walking. Talking. Showering. You name it. You can hear it. When people walk down the hallway, it sounds like a scary riot is in your bedroom. And, even worse, when you try to move out, you won't get any of your deposit back even if your apartment is impeccable :( My whole experience with the Whittaker has been terrible. I lasted a couple of months and took my first (and really expensive) opportunity to move out. My deposit 'return' was $49.15 from $300. Seriously?! I lived there for two months and didn't make a mess. What a ripoff. I wish I would have read the reviews before moving in. Now I'm seeing how unhappy so many people have been. I would have kept looking, but I was in a hurry... My mistake - but hopefully not yours. As they say, buyer BEWARE! read more

We decided to rent so we can have the ease of travel , sold our house because we are now empty nesters ( 5 bed room with just the two of us ? No ) at first it was fun and really cool , cause we've always owned homes ( still own one that we rent out ) . Now the fun and glitz is over , we do travel a lot , but dealing with neighbors who have no consideration or respect for residence or dwellings . 1) found a broken full bottle of alcohol in the elevator with glass all over and left it . 2 ) easy access to building and all floors through the P1 elevator ( though many brought up this concern ) 3) multiple times encountering people off the street wondering the halls that do not live here . 4) Dog urine and poop found in elevators , hallways . 5) now with MOD open , residence can't get to the parking garage because of cars parked in the alley blocking access . 6 ) found myself cleaning up a elevator that someone puked in and left it in there !!! 7) And sounds travel from people downstairs and we are on the top floor .. makes sense ? The thrill is gone because it seems like the leasing staff is concerned with just getting new tenants , rent payed on time and not these issues ... I mean cmon !!! Anyone can get access to any floor anytime and cause some damage !!!!! When the lease is up , we are out ... especially if they decide to raise the rent , if anything they should lower it , because people are not getting the " luxury " experience advertised or that we signed up for . read more

Pro's...Location....the neighborhood of West Seattle is a really great place to live. Great local shops, places to eat and have drinks and the building is within walking distance to it all. Festivals in the summer, beautiful wooded parks, a small theater and cinema. Fantastic water access and bike trails. Great maintenance staff, kept the halls and common spaces super clean and responded to calls quickly and professionally despite the pressure of having so much work to do in a huge understaffed building. Cons's...Our dog still goes into a panic over the slightest chirp of a fire alarm from all the countless alarms we experienced, many times in the middle of the night. The parking garage gate was broken the entire time we lived there and once that gate is up anyone can access the elevators to the main halls. The police were frequently at the building investigating disturbances. Our gear was stolen from the resident storage room without even an apology. People lived in their cars in the garage for a time. Walls are definitely very thin, you'll be well aware when your neighbors are cooking, arguing, cleaning, walking, etc. And the big beautiful windows, when we looked at the unit they had just been cleaned, after that they were cleaned once in the entire time we lived there. When it comes to trying to deal with concerns, you feel as though you are getting nowhere.The leasing agents are very nice and good at selling the apartments. The property manager position turned over at least 3x while we lived there and it seemed that none of the irritation of living there ever got any better, even though it did seem attempts were being made. The final insult came when we were offered a lease renewal with a rent increase! After our things were stolen, after having insecure parking for a year, after constant fire alarms, water disruptions.....enough was enough. Not surprisingly, after moving they gouged us anyways through fees for every little thing that they could conceivably find. read more

I recently moved in, new to seattle and I absolutely love this place. I don't hear anything from my neighbors, I feel safe and the staff is great, Trevor was awesome in showing me many apartments. I have been living here for six months and my experience has been less than great. While the apartments are beautiful, living in a brand new complex has its drawbacks. First, since this is a brand new building, you will be obligated to pay an additional fee to the City of Seattle for the installation of the sewer system. This is a monthly fee on top of your water, sewer, and trash fees. Second, the businesses in the building are constantly testing one thing or another. This means that your fire alarm will go off periodically, obligating you to abandon your apartment due to the deafening sound. The businesses also asked the apartments to turn off their water in order for them to conduct a test, and we were without water for about 7 hours! When the water did come back on, it was brown for a few hours afterwards. All we got from management was, "sorry for the inconvenience". I'm sorry, but having running water in your apartment is not a convenience, it's a necessity. We've also had to leave the parking garage and find street parking because businesses needed to install something. And if you live in West Seattle, you know how difficult it is to find street parking. Lastly, they have no control over their parking. They ask you to pay to park there, but there is no gate at the present moment (someone ran their car into it a couple months back and there is no sign of it ever getting fixed) and anyone who wants to park can without any issue. They send periodic email reminders, but nobody cares since nobody enforces anything. The door to the building is completely unsecured, so any stranger can walk in here if they wanted to. Beautiful place, but just be ready to be "inconvenienced". I'll be moving out after my lease ends. read more

This is for the North tower opening. I hope that it is just the growing pains of opening a new building and trying to rent out as many units in as little time as possible... but I won't hold my breath. The units themselves are really nice. I wish I could have seen the actual unit I was moving into before it was moving day though. That may have been my fault but I was intent on getting the unit that I wanted. Of course they are offering promotions if you move in now but if you started looking a month ago and put your deposit down, sorry, that $1000 they are offering doesn't apply to you. The amenities are beautiful! The gym is HUGE, though could do with a bit more equipment. The courtyard is awesome so far. However the building has been open two weeks now and still isn't fully furnished, and the amenities have only been open for one week. Understandable I guess... Those beautiful amenities are actually only open until 10pm. If you are 'caught' out in any of them later than that, expect a huge fine, even if you were not bothering anybody. Zero tolerance policies don't even belong in the school system, so move here if you want to be treated like a high school student again! We have a couple weeks left of a beautiful summer so if you were expecting to hang out on the roof after 10pm, no can do. The north tower does not seem to have central A/C on right now so with the recent heat wave, it has been upwards of 85 degrees in the building. It is unbelievably hot all throughout the building with no explanation. They may offer you a box fan if you ask though, to help circulate some air into the units that get no airflow. The North tower also doesn't have the Luxor package locker installed and they are directing all deliveries to the South tower. So whenever you have a package, you have to go to the other building to grab it. Have fun doing that when you have some huge furniture delivered, or multiple boxes. There is a package room in the North tower that they have decided not to use for whatever reason. Renting amenity spaces is pretty expensive ($50 an hour min, up to $100 or $150), and the rule is only 5 guests per unit before you have to rent out the space. You get a key card for access and if you want a key fob like all the other new places, it's $50. $15 a month to store your bike, otherwise you can use your own lock to store your bike in the garage that is shared with retail space; completely open to many strangers that will be in and out daily. Construction is still going on throughout the building, so be prepared to be woken up by it. Also, today the water is shut off. They initially told us 9-12 but now it may be off until 5pm with NO REASONABLE ALTERNATIVE! Need to shower today? Hope you were up early. Need to pee or poop? Well you can do either one ONCE, flush and then just pray you won't have to go again for the rest of the day until the water is back on. Recycling chutes have been full since I've moved in. I haven't even been able to use them once and they are completely packed. I take all my recycling down in multiple trips. Very awesome for when you are piecing together your apartment with new furniture. A lot of this stuff is easily solved so I hope they get it together because at the moment I regret signing my 12 month lease here. I pay over $2000 a month for rent here and expect the 'luxury' apartment to actually be one. Thank goodness the units are awesome, though the pictures showed white countertops and mine are gray... didn't know about that when I was moving in either. The residents I have met are nice. The staff is nice too! I just think that they need to manage the place better. read more
