These people are not social distancing. Seating people back to back and adjacent booths when entire rooms are empty. Bartender not wearing a mask. Server had nose out of mask. Manager handled my silverware and didn't offer to replace. VERY EXPENSIVE. Buttermilk Pie was like a curdled scrambled egg. $28 steak is a bit of meat alone on a plate, "their steaks don't come with any sides" ... $28-$40 steaks that don't include potato or salad or anything and that fact is NOT LISTED ON THE MENU. We had come to the cafe after touring the Johnny Cash boyhood home and arrived about 12:45. It took us a while to get waited on and when we did get our order in, we waited about an hour and noticed everyone around us was eating even though we were there before them. We asked about our food - and our server checked and said that our ticket never did go in and that they would begin the food immediately. We had ordered the blackened Bacon Cheese Sandwich and Avocado Turkey Sandwich platters. The server was so casual about it and acted like it was nothing. We got our food near the 2:00 closing time, then had to ask for tableware and napkins. The server seemed smug about it. It was like squeezing blood from a turnip. We didn't get any compensation off of our expensive lunch at all, even though we waited almost an hour and a half! I would not recommend this place just simply because of the uncaring service. This little gem is hidden in the middle on nowhere Arkansas, but is probably the best restaurant between Memphis and St. Louis. Yes, it's a little out of the way. But totally worth the detour off I-55! I've eaten here several times for both lunch and dinner. Everything has been delicious. Run by two chefs/restauranteurs from Memphis (The Elegant Farmer), The Wilson Cafe has quickly become the best food experience outside of Memphis, specifically in Northeast Arkansas. The wait staff, although only two months experienced, is wonderful. The food. Well, it's just all amazing. The lunch specials are full flavored, huge portions that will kill an afternoon worth of productivity. The dinner menu is also huge portions of wonderfully prepared dishes that aren't typical of small, rural town Arkansas. The shrimp and grits, topped with braised greens are a must. The dessert menu - chocolate chess pie, doughnut bread pudding and sweet potato pie - is wonderful. The best part about The Wilson Cafe is that all ingredients are fresh from many local farms, including veggies and meats. Definitely a "diamond in the rough" sort of dining experience. My family and I visited the Wilson Cafe on the evening of August 14, 2021. We drove an hour in honor of my parents's wedding anniversary. While this establishment is visually appealing, the experience was dull. There were 3 things of note, which I will list in decreasing significance. Firstly, the service. Our waitress seemed disinterested in us and serving. She was terse, hard to hear, and possessed a flat affect. She did not smile, project, or reply. Additionally, she was untimely. There were abnormally long stretches between her visits, and she would leave almost as soon as she came, as if merely passing through. After finishing our meal, my sweet tooth inclined me to desire dessert. Just when we were wondering if our waitress would return, she reappeared. Unprompted, she had brought the check and disappeared again. She did not ask us if there was anything else we wanted. She did not ask us if we wanted desert. She simply dropped off the check. My father simply supplied his card, as I was the only one who had desired dessert, and her attitude had disinclined me. We just wanted to leave. The majority of the reason I bother to write this review is simply so the young lady in question can improve. Unsatisfactory service lost her a better tip. Secondly, the food was fine. Nothing more, nothing less. It wasn't worthy of any specific attention nor of an hour's commute. And finally, the music. This may seem petty, but I'm being genuine when I say it detracted from the otherwise nice ambiance. While not objectively bad music--nor profane--it was inappropriate for the setting. I like Coldplay's Paradise and Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know (ft Kimbra) and Keane's Somewhere Only We Know as much as the next person, but it left the ambiance unfinished. I just thought I'd mention since I was writing a review anyway lol. My family and I were looking forward to our time at Wilson's Cafe, but unfortunately the unsatisfactory service and average food did not meet our expectations. read more

Hostes, did not greet or smile at my family and I. She only said hello with a frown after I spoke. The men's bathroom had no soap or dispenser and took forever after I asked to get some; eventually she went into the Female bathroom and brought some to me. It arrived slightly over cooked on top of a few florets of broccoli (and I do mean few) and some carrots that could have stand to cook way longer. Total disappointment. This beautiful restaurant is located off the "Main Street" that goes through Wilson, Arkansas (population 900). Wilson Cafe is on the southwest corner of a one block town square. There is plenty of street parking near the Restaurant. Members of the service staff are professionally dressed with the comfortable warm attitude that you would expect from a proper southern restaurant. It's twenty degrees today, so I started with a hot cup of mushroom soup. It was delightful. The fresh tidbits of mushrooms and subtle seasoning was the perfect warm-up for my main course. I selected the grilled hamburger steak with rich brown gravy and caramelized onions. I choose the homemade cream corn and mashed potatoes as my sides. The waitress offered several side options including Macaroni and Cheese which was very tempting. The cream corn was well seasoned with droplets of cream cheese. The heirloom corn was fresh, firm, with remarkable flavor. I ordered a bottle of 2013 Heitz Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It was incredible and complimented my meal perfectly. The wine was served in proper stemware and the wine service was professional which is rare in this part of Arkansas. Heitz Cellar is a Napa Valley Icon and is owned by local Arkansas business man Gaylon Lawrence for who's family the town of Wilson, Arkansas is named. Finally, it was time for dessert. The staff was suggesting many of the freshly made pies, but Donut Bread Pudding was the clear choice for me. It arrived hot with homemade whipped cream. I managed to make it halfway through before my conscious made me stop. Overall, Wilson Cafe is a unique find in this rural part of the delta. The restaurant is a culinary oasis in a sea of cotton and rice fields and well worth the thirty minute drive from Memphis, Tennessee. read more

Drive to Wilson to check out the mercantile store and have dinner. Unfortunately the information on the website stating the store closed at 6PM was incorrect. We got there right at 5PM as they were putting the closed sign up. The sweet girl that worked there, let is look around real quick but we were unable to buy anything because she had closed out the register already. Anyhow .... We went across the street to Wilson's Cafe. The cafe is decorated nicely. It's warm and welcoming. There were only a few people there when we arrived and we were seated right away. The menu itself is not very large but the have a variety of items. They also have kids meals that are not listed in the menu .... grilled cheese, chicken strips w/fries. Don't remember what the third item was I ordered the hamburger and my friend had the special which was Barramundi, Mac and cheese and bbq cauliflower. The hamburger and fries were very good. The fries are homemade. My friend liked all of her meal. She had never had barramundi but liked it. She commented that both the mac and cheese and bbq cauliflower were very good. I tried a bite of her fish, which was not bad but a bit too fishy for me. It was a nice dinner and a nice atmosphere. By the time we left an hour or so later, the restaurant was pretty full. As I was visiting from Vegas, doubtful I'll be back but if I was a local, I would eat there again. read more
