    The dark inside
    Justo C.

I was hungry for fish and chips - English style, so my wife and I went to eat there. It was a little difficult to find because it's tucked in behind a building. Anyway, it was pretty dark when we arrived and not busy at all. Luckily, the bartender/waiter was there. We told him we heard about how good their fish and chips were and wanted to try them. My ordered a Cobb salad, which she declared, was delicious! The fish and chips were as good as advertised. I would not say similar to the English version though. I got a pint of Guinness to wash it down. Overall, the place was ok. It may be a little dark inside but maybe it needed more people in it. Their fish and chips are worth going back though. I'm just saying!

Service was very good. Ambiance ok but not that inviting. Food was mostly breading with a little bit of filling. The drinks were just ok. Nothing great nothing bad about this place. Just a mid but expensive spot. I likely will not return.

5 star service here at the Winchester! Our server was so on the ball and quick to check on us, refill waters, etc. She was great and the team here are very friendly and helpful. I had been once before just for trivia and now to dine in, my experience today surpassed that by far. The food also really surprised me as the portions were large, everything came out fresh, and tasted amazing! I highly recommend the chicken schnitzel dish, the gravy it comes with was so good. Being an English pub theme and more sports bar oriented (first impression) I was very happy with the food and will be back to try other menu items.

One of our favorite pubs in town! Their food is amazing and we always have a good experience here. We went recently and I got a burger that was incredible. Super juicy and full of flavor. The fries on the side were cooked just right as well! It was a very large portion, so well worth the price. We don't usually order dessert out, but the waiter convinced us to try the whiskey cake and WOW! I think it was better than the other restaurant known for their whiskey cake if you know who I'm talking about! On our latest trip, it took a bit for someone to initially check in on us and get our order, but once we ordered the staff checked in many times. Great spot for a drink and some amazing pub food!

Food was amazing, prices were decent. If you get a chance, definitely try the scotch eggs. No longer an Arsenal bar though.

Oh man. I didn't mean to get full on an appetizer. But I ordered the Big A$$ Bacon and a beer. And couldn't think of ordering a meal. So I ordered Chorizo Mexi-Scotch Eggs. Paired up with Guinness. Because that's what you do. Sam is the bartender on Mondays. Say hi.

Found myself at The Winchester for the first time this past week! I've always seen on Broadway, but have never gone in. From the outside, it looks like a small place in a corner, but it's actually quite big! I was there playing Trivia with friends. I believe they host trivia every Tuesday! Fun prizes - $60 gift card for 1st place, $40 gift card for 2nd place, $20 gift card for third place. Only catch is you can't use the gift card the night you win it and it expires within 2 weeks of receiving it so it keeps you coming back! The trivia host was great and the service was really good. I just had a couple beers, but a friend ordered the fish n chips and said they were great!! Very cozy pub environment. This place definitely exceeded my expectations. Will return!

I've seen this place a ton of times because it is right next door to my favorite book store, Nowhere. I was so excited to finally get to have dinner here for a book club! A friend had also recommended it when I asked for suggestions on English food/pub style places since the book was set in England... Gotta follow the theme! I love the atmosphere here. It's cozy and chill. Dark and a little moody. Only negative is getting orders in was super slow, but they were waiting on more people to show up that we had learned weren't coming, but noone had checked in for a while. The fish and chips were divine! I was waaaayyyy too full and didn't even finish everything! Crispy outside, soft inside. The fries were so crispy and I don't know what seasoning mix they used, but it should go on EVERYTHING! The chorizo scotch eggs are spicy! The egg part is perfectly cooked, but the chorizo has a kick! (At least as far as a bunch of white women are concerned...) You have been warned... Staff was so nice! Friendly and welcoming. I loved our waitresses style. This would be a great place for dinner, a date, a book club, a hang out, anything. Food, drinks... All good! Parking is limited since so many businesses share the lot, but not tooooo bad. Oh, and they do charge $1 for water, just so you're aware/not surprised.

It was a great experience and can see why it's a soccer game watch destination. We would definitely comeback.

The food is mediocre gastro pub fare. The service was good but no one could figure out how to put our favorite football team on one of the many televisions. They have posters up declaring any game on Sunday but someone didn't renew the subscription or teach the staff how to get ANY LIVE game.

Guinness-Chorizo Mexi-Scotch Eggs -Chicken Wings Pound Hot!!

The bar is comfortable, chill, and dark. The servers are friendly and are quick to attend to you and the orders come out quickly. I had a Guinness and the Chorizo Mexi-Scotch Eggs and Chicken Wings Pound Hot. The Chorizo Mexi-Scotch Eggs were spicy and tasty without it being overwhelming and the eggs were a perfect soft poach. The wings were plump and had a delicious kick to them. This is bar food done with excellence.

Tucked away in a strip mall in Alamo Heights. They do have parking in the back as well.

Loved it! Stopped by for a late lunch. Minimally staffed but the bartender/waitress was out going, friendly and on top of things. It wasn't super busy but I'd like to go back at dinner time. It has really cool vibes in there. It reminds me of the Irish pubs I'd visit in the Boston area. The buffalo chicken sandwich and garlic fries were delicious. My wife got a fried Brussel sprout salad. Not my jam but she loved it. We'll be back for sure!

Do they have Guinness on tap?

    Yes they doo

Do they offer happy hour ? What are the times?

    Yes but limited

Is this business kid friendly for an early dinner?

If you go for an early bird dinner, especially on weekdays, the place is quiet and not densely seated, and the booths are very comfortable for family seating. Hopefully the kids aren't having a fussy time, but there is a sidewalk along the building…

Have they built the outdoor patio yet?

Small back smoking patio has been built

Does it still smell like smoke indoors?

Not at all, a few months of scrubbing, changed out fixtures and TVs, new carpet. Etc....

First of all, they no longer offer chips and salsa! Margaritas and chips and salsa are the binge food of most San Antonians, but not at Bays anymore! Also, goodbye to Scotch eggs. The nachos, which used to be a glorious gathering of refried beans and cheese, are now tiny chips with strange black beans scattered over them and lightly topped with some unidentified cheese. Barely edible. Thank God they didn't mess with the chili, although when I asked for chips with my chili, I was told there were none. The nachos were made with chips, but I couldn't get any for my chili. I then asked for crackers, expecting at least some saltines. Nope, I got wheat thins. And the frozen margaritas are now snowcones. If there is tequila in them, I couldn't taste it. Our server kept claiming he was "new" so he couldn't answer our questions about the menu changes. But he was quick to point out that he worked for tips when he brought us the check. All in all, this was a VERY disappointing experience. My first and LAST experience at McFly's left a lot to be desired. There was very little seating available during the NBA finals, which I guess is to be expected, but when I did find seating, a very rude Mexican girl slid onto the seat next to me and attempted to make more rooms for her friends to sit down. When my friend came in, we decided to move to another table to avoid any issues. Shortly after this, a Mexican male came over and purposely blocked our view of the game, and when my friend POLITELY asked if he could move over some, she was told that it was her problem that she couldn't see the television. RUDE, MUCH? Then, another male came over and inserted himself into the discussion. A 'security guard' came over and attempted to 'quiet' things, but he was clearly taking the male's side on this issue. The 'security guard' proceeded to tell me that he was told that the Black female was the aggressor. WOWWW!!! WHY do Black people have to be the aggressors in situations??? These two Mexican males were clearly with the group from earlier, and decided to disrupt the time we were trying to spend watching the game. This is one of the WORST establishments I've ever experienced, EVER. If you're a Black person living in or visiting San Antonio, stay FAR away from McFly's!!! Save your money and find another establishment to go to! One that doesn't make Black people feel unwelcomed!
