Local gem! This is a cool spot by Carter Lake. Our family of 4 stopped here on a Saturday at 2pm on our way to the lake. It definitely has a biker bar/roadhouse feel but it was family and dog friendly also. We sat on the patio and were helped quickly and our burgers came out fast. The burgers were awesome! My husband and I are kind of picky with burgers and we were pleasantly surprised! He and my son got the Road King and I got the Knuckle. Everything was great! First visit. If there was a sign that said either "Wait to be seated" or "Seat yourself", we didn't see it. We stood there awkwardly for a few minutes, then went over to the bar and ordered. There was one woman tending the bar and waiting on every table; we thought she did an amazing job, but it was asking too much on a Friday night. Our burgers came surprisingly fast. My "Road King", with brisket and BBQ sauce, was good. My wife's "Bad Boy" was OK after she removed the extremely-wilted lettuce. My onion rings were good and maybe worth the $2 extra charge. My wife's fries came from the bottom of the bag; the longest one was about 1-1/2 inches. $6 for good beers isn't bad; I do recommend Nitro Milk Stout and don't recommend Devil's Dunkel. On a curious note: that's the loudest restroom music I've ever heard! read more

Ordered a burger the RoadKing, the best burger I can remember out. Not a frozen patty, you can tell they formed them and cooked them, a toasted bun and fries for me, wife had same burger w onion rings. Both delicious! Ate outside on patio with lake in distance. Haven't been to the windjammer in years, decided to go up. We ordered wings 20.00 wings for 12 expected it to be good but was sorely disappointed. They tasted like the made them the week before and refried them. The pulled pork was so dry and served with frozen crinkle that were not cooked properly. I was given a small container of bbq sauce that tasted out of a can. Horrible paid 60.00 for garbage. To top it off the waiter / bartender told us sorry he was chatting with his friends and did not mean to ignore us. There was only 4 people in the place !!! Won't go back or recommend!! read more

Unless you ride a Harley, have a pony tail & a handlebar mustache, I don't recommend you go to this dive of a bar. Burger for 12.00's was fair. French fries were overcooked & nachos are made with velveeta cheese & beans. That's just the food. For gods sakes don't bring any kids here! Talk about making you feel uncomfortable. Bartender/server wanted no part of any kids. Nasty, crabby & service was terrible. If you do take kids here, ensure they don't even touch the pool table! Tried to use the pinball machine & was told that it was our fault for putting quarters in to fast. The thing never worked & had to ask 3 times to get the .75 back. You should have seen the look I got for asking for one refill of my drink. Drive your Harley here, don't bring kids. This is for locals only & they really don't want your business. Howdy y'all. This place is worth stopping into when you are out for a motorcycle ride with the crew or club. I dig their burgers... Service is usually good, even on a poker run and there are 30 guys goofing around in there. It's usually pretty clean and a decent amount of space. My husband and I were so looking forward to a night out with our little family at the restaurant after seeing the reviews on Facebook. We were unfortunately very disappointed at the lack of courtesy and basic service. We sat ourselves outside at a table with our two small children and let them play while we waited for a server. After ten minutes of not being acknowledged by anyone, my husband went inside to the bar to try to get us some drinks and a menu. He waited there for ten minutes more and did not get so much as a look in his direction. Once he came back out, I got up and asked the server if there was a way we could order some drinks and look at a menu. She replied that they were busy and were making their rounds and that we should try the bar. The problem for me, was that several parties came in after us and had received prompt service. I even made eye contact with her and another man who I think was the owner/manager and was passed over. I get that all new restaurants have growing pains. I do not appreciate the treatment by the server, however. I hope to get a better response if we go again the future, but I'm not sure it's worth the drive. read more

This place rocks! I came for a quick drink and ended up spending the night dancing, eating a burger outside by the fire pit in the new 'beer garden' and making several new friends. Since that first night I've been back several times including for a friends birthday party. I visit every time I'm in Loveland it's that good. Don't be fooled by old reviews. New owners are clearly listening to what their customers want and investing in making this place the Carter Lake hangout while keeping the rustic Roadhouse feel. This place is worth a drive up to Carter Lake for the burgers alone. read more

Gave this restaurant 2 tries. Once last year, once today. Last year service was not good. Tonight we stayed for 20 minutes without service at all. Others in the restaurant experienced the same thing. Under new management and the food is 100% improved. All the new BBQ's are great, our personal favorites being the smoked brisket and the turkey. The service has improved greatly as well considering the place is situated by a lake resort popular with boaters, campers and bicyclists, far from other food venues, and things do indeed get busy particularly when dozens of motorcyclists roll in all at once. The new management and staff have the proper, positive attitude to make it work. read more

To start out we made a special trip up to check out this bar/restaurant for dinner , at 6;30 they were already out of 3 items on the menu. The waitress was trying very hard to get things right. But waiting over an hour for food on a Friday night with only 3 tables seated is b.s. On top of being out of brisket and sausage. then after receiving cold onion rings, and after waiting and getting hot ones . The cocky manager says he hears we have a problem. I explain all the things they are out of and he blames it on the cook that had to leave and he does not know how to cook. Then he says he would remake the rings or we could have 20 % off . Of course when I asked upon getting the bill he said he already remade the onion rings and acted like we were trying to pull something on him . Oh and by the way we were told after getting our order and not bringing the coleslaw that they were out of that too. The manager/owner running things needs training on how to handle customers and have a better attitude ! And quit blaming his lack on everyone else including his own staff !!! read more

The Windjammer provides mediocre food with the cost of time. The food's quality makes sense for the location. However, what is INEXCUSABLE is the lack of empathy, human connection, and lack of service. My party of 4 arrived on a Friday night at 5:30 Pm hoping to grab a moderately quick bite. Instead, we waited for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Our server, who was also the manager, didn't give us any warning about the wait of the food, or show any sort of quality management. We were left without ketchup or any condiments and were never checked on during our wait. As leverage, she used her experience in the industry, older age, and the small kitchen as an excuse. She claimed that a 12 inch pizza took over an hour to make, which should be recognized as false. Although it is a mountain town, there should be no excuse for a lack of service and absolutely no empathy. We received no apology. In response to requesting the owner's number, she purposely gave us the wrong phone number, and answered the phone HERSELF, further refusing to get us in contact with the owner. All we asked for was some sort of compensation or acknowledgement for the waste of time and completely terrible personnel and service. Not one apology the entire time. It would be nice to actually hear from the owner, instead of the astoundingly disrespectful manager. read more

This a great old place near one of the most picturesque areas in Northern Colorado. Its been a favorite stop for Bikers, Fisherman, Locals and Tourists for years. It's been thru a few owners the past few years but it continues to retain its retro charm. This is a true roadhouse in the classic sense. I personally love the fact that the building shows signs of wear and decay, adds to the charm. Many would say i show the same signs :-)... This is by far the BEST BURGER in Colorado. I can't comment on the rest of the menu as i can't seem to order anything other than the Pan burger, it's THAT GOOD. Staff is usually pretty friendly though they can get pretty slammed on occasion. I have personally never felt un-welcome and i have been here many times over the past few years. The outdoor seating area is large and has awesome views of the area around the bar. If you enjoy cold beers, amazing burgers and a true old school roadhouse feel, then this is your place! read more

Another new owner took over in the last year or so, but the Windjammer still keeps it's good food, great location plus fun and not too serious atmosphere. The good: Wonderful location with great views and often there are deer grazing in view while you're enjoying your drink and lunch. The food is pretty good with a nice sized burger cooked to our specifications, although the fries were a $1 extra, it was still a good value for the money. The beer was cold and the inside of the place is clean, although cluttered with all kinds of trinkets, signs and so forth that give the place its fun personality. The not so good: It seems every time we've been there the bartenders are slammed, even when there are not that many customers there. I have to think they have some process issues in how orders are taken, things are rung up and so on. While the staff have always been friendly and we're not usually in a rush, them always being frazzled does make us seem like we're a burden rather than a welcomed customer. The bad: In general the inside looks pretty good, but the outside is really falling apart. The siding needed paint some years ago and now will need to be replaced. A few things are broken and in general it looks a bit ratty outside. Hopefully with the warmer weather coming they will get this taken care of to make the place seem a little nicer and place you might want to bring your parents or children. In summary, the food has been good with nice portions cooked well at a decent price, the beer cold and inside is a nice environment. The location is fantastic and worth a stop anytime you're int he Carter lake area. Either getting another person in their to alleviate the haggard looking and sounding staff, or improving processes so they are not always slammed, will go a long way toward improving the customer experience. Like someone else said, this is likely a 3 star place, but it earns another star just for its the location. read more

My family and I were camping nearby and had forgotten hamburger buns. As the marina was closed, I stopped in to see if we could buy four buns from this establishment. They wanted to charge me an outrageous amount and basically mocked me for asking. I get they didn't need to sell them to me and we were in a supply and demand moment, but I hope if the owner is ever stuck in a similar position with his family people will treat him better than he treated us. We are frequent visitors to the area to boat/camp and have eaten at this place before, but never again. read more

If not for the location, the Windjammer would probably only get 3 stars, but because they're located on Carter Lake with no other restaurants for miles. The bar food was above average, but then again, it's hard to mess up fried stuff. My middle schoolers were happy with their wings, pizza, and we shared the appetizer plate. Service was friendly and timely. Twice over a 4 day camping trip, we were the only dining customers but there were a few folks at the bars. The foosball and pool tables were unused, the music was good and at a decent level for conversation. If we get to Carter Lake again, and I think we will, we'll go fried or go home again. read more

I've been riding past this restaurant for the last few years and been meaning to stop in. My wife and I finally decided to stop in while taking out Shepard for a swim in the lake. Ivy was the waitress that helped us and she was top notch. She brought a bowl of water and a piece of bacon for Scarlett. This kind of hospitality is hard to find and note worthy. We ordered a mushroom burger without onions and a couple of beers which was fantastic. The first burger accidently had onions on it and Ivy acted quickly to rectify the situation even offering to let us keep the onion burger for the dog...how cool is that!! I recommend the Wind Jammer and urge you to ignore the negative reviews cuz the place is superb. They buy there hamburger patties at SAMs . Lots of flies. They were handing out fly swaters to people as they came in.like its there job to control the fly infestation! Stared working at windjammer in 1973,I have known every owner sense the first ones the jones. The new owner is the worst. The flies are breeding under the bar, there is an hatch the floor in front of the register that you can go under the bar. Human waste and mold can be found and tested. read more

A couple of weekends ago, went up to Carter lake to go fishing. My husband and I stopped to have a quick dinner, what a horrible experience. It took us 30 minutes to put an order in and at least an hour to get our food. We would never would have gotten the order in if we had not gone up to the bar and ordered ourselves. The Jammer is our "pub" for those of us who spend a lot of time at Carter Lake. The food is good. The staff and clientele are friendly and accommodating. It's a great place to hang out after boating or fishing. When there's a poker run it can get a little hectic. But the bikers are easy going and it's always a comfortable atmosphere. The Windjammer is one of a kind! The drive up to Carter Lake is beautiful and there are excellent chances for seeing deer, elk, turkeys, and the occasional bear. The restaurant serves great food and the staff is awesome. We eat here at least once a week! read more
