I am here vacationing, and happened to find this place on Groupon. The menu looks interesting, so we decided to give it a try. It is OUTSTANDING. The vibe is very laid back and warm. The lights are lower, the music is great, and it's super comfy. The man who helped us was the owner, we also met his son who works there as well. They couldn't have been more knowledgeable, attentive, and gracious. We got the 6 meat, 6 cheese, and 6 chocolates. My mouth is watering just writing this, it was the best I've had. If you get a chance to try the wild mushroom brie, you need to; it is to die for. In addition to the extensive wine list, they also have some exceedingly tasty craft beers. Thoroughly enjoyed our ladies night out at the wine bar. We took advantage of a Groupon promotion for a tasting for four. We enjoyed 4 glasses of wine, 4 cheeses, 4 meats, and 4 chocolates. John was our bartender and very helpful during our visit. He was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and wines, and all his recommendations were on-point. No small feat considering our preferences ranged from moscato to bold cabs. I appreciated that we were all offered a small tasting portion of the wine before "committing" to a whole pour. Especially since there was one wine I tried (at my request) that didn't make the cut this evening! (Nothing wrong with the wine, just not what I was in the mood for). John was quick to notice that it wasn't a winning horse and quickly made other suggestions. They also offer half glasses so don't be afraid to ask :^) Our cheese and meat plate was presented very nicely by chef Chris, who served us and walked us through the plate. The 5 year Gouda was quite good, with all the "crunchies" you'd expect from a high quality cheese, and the Pinot Grigio hard salami was also exceptional. We didn't order off the small plates menu, but I would love to try the "slow cooked dr.pepper pulled pork sliders" on my next visit! Served on Hawaiian king sweet rolls with sweet and spicy pickles, it was truly an exercise in restraint to not order these (or 2 orders... Or 3...) Overall, we had a lovely experience at The Wine Bar and appreciated the exceptional service and I was very impressed with John's through knowledge of all the offerings. Awesome! Love their large wine selection. Good vibe and friendly staff. While planning a weekend trip to Charleston I came across this place on Groupon. We decided to buy it to use after dinner on Saturday. We purchased the bottle of champagne with 6 chocolate deal. When we arrived we asked the friend guy who greeted us if we could exchange the champagne for wine. He said that was fine. I am not a chocolate person but I enjoyed all of the chocolates we had. There was a guitarist playing smooth music when we arrived. We sat in the couch area, but in two sling back chairs. All the tables were taken. We both really enjoyed our experience here. We chatted with other patrons for a little while. We noticed the crowd seemed to come and go in waves. We arrived as the first wave was wrapping up and a couple of other groups arrived. I really liked the large and fully stocked women's restroom. It is rare to see a restroom with bobbypins, nail files, and more for patrons to use. The little details like this really make a different. We will return the next time we're in Charleston. read more

The owner of the bar was extremely rude. He made a scene at our table when we nicely asked to cancel our friends order because they were waiting 30 minutes for their charcuterie board. We received our charcuterie board first, even though we ordered our food at the same time, and patiently waited 30 minutes for their board. It was busy at the time and we understood so we kindly asked to cancel their board since we had almost finished our board and the owner rudely came to the table and made a scene. We used to love going to this bar and the server was extremely nice, but unfortunately with the service we received from the owner we wouldn't recommend going to this wine bar to anyone. They must sell a lot of Groupons. We got one as a gift and it was about to expire. We went during Happy Hour. Don't bother. They won't allow You to redeem and get Happy Hour. A shame because we went online to check and did not see this restriction. I think it should be more clear. We did each have a nice Malbec suggested by the bartender. Went great with our plate of meat, cheese, and chocolate. We really enjoyed the plate. The plate was a little smaller than I expected but each item was very tasty. I am no expert on wine, cheese, meats, and chocolate, but certainly like to enjoy them. That being said, The Wine Bar has a comprehensive menu that I appreciated very much. It didn't feel pretentious and the descriptions of each item was creative and fun to read. For two, I would recommend getting the 3 cheeses, 3 meats, and 3 chocolates option. It had the perfect variety of tastes and textures and left us quite satisfied. The plate had honey, various nuts, fruits, and pickles that made each bite different and tasty. I do wish the cheese and meats came out on an actual charcuterie board instead of a plate though. Cheese: The Belletoile Brie (how fitting for Beauty & The Beast out in theaters ;)), Goat Gouda, Bacon Cheddar. The Goat Gouda really stood out to me, in terms of texture. It was so creamy and soft. Bacon Cheddar wins for taste. I mean, how could you not like something that has bacon in it. It had the perfect ration of bacon and cheese. Meats: Chorizo, Brunschager Liverwurst, Spanish Jamon. Out of the 3, the Chorizo was my favorite. It had a lot of flavor and spice to it. The Liverwurst was my least favorite due to the texture of it. Chocolates: Caramel Dark and Sea Salt, Almond Cluster, and Macadamia Cluster. I'm not a sweets person, but the chocolates really impressed me. I enjoyed each of the chocolates and they all tasted so good with my Cabernet Sauvignon. Wines: I wish I remembered the two Cabernet Sauvignon that we had, but they were both great. For you beer lovers, don't fret. There's something for you too. They do have a solid list of craft beers to choose from. It was busy and the server was a bit overwhelmed, but he was able to juggle many tables, the bar, and orders. He apologized for the wine and food to come out, and my boyfriend and I appreciated that. It didn't bother us because it was nice to take our time to enjoy the wine. The ambiance was nice as well. I'm a big fan of the very dim lighting and dark furniture. Very cool date spot. My boyfriend and I met another couple here on a Friday. They are not open on Sunday!!!! We almost came here before I checked their opening hours. So we ordered two bottles of wine. In addition, I had a Groupon deal that offered 6 types of meats, Cheese's and chocolate for $36. It was such an awesome deal. Favorite cheese would be drunken goat. Earlier this week, I visited The Wine Bar for the first time. It was awesome. The wine is excellent - I had the Havencourt Chardonnay. My husband had a port which he really enjoyed. There is such an extensive menu - something for everyone. The cheese, charcuterie and chocolate options are the best. I'm making it a point to try every cheese, charcuterie and chocolate they have! :) The smoked gouda is awesome and the chorizo and italian hard salami are delicious. Tip: Often, there is only one server but the food and service do not disappoint. It is well worth the wait. The atmosphere is great too. The cozy setting is great for dates as well as spending time with a small group of friends.This was an impromptu "date" for me and my hubby. My husband and I are Charleston locals and always enjoy frequenting here for date nights. The atmosphere is cozy with candles burning throughout and choices of high top tables, couches, or seating at the bar. There is a large selection of wines from which you can choose. We always enjoy letting their very knowledgeable sommeliers pick something out for us. Tonight we each enjoyed a red wine flight as well as a charcuterie board that consisted of 3 meats, 3 cheeses, and 3 chocolates as well as other accompaniments such as fruit, nuts, olives, etc. Bryan served us tonight, and as always, service was impeccable. Favorites of mine include the red dragon cheese and the PB&J chocolate paw. I hope these never leave the menu!! I highly recommend a visit to the wine bar. Tonight, we decided to join some friends at The Wine Bar after being gifted a Groupon. Upon entering, we were put off by the employee as he stood behind the bar and did not direct us toward the seating policies. We promptly sat and waited approx 10 min to be acknowledged. Upon which point, I asked to order the special off the board (the NZ sauv). The employee brought the bottle back and proceeded to open and pour the bottle, without asking if it was the bottle as ordered. We greatly enjoyed our cheese/meat/chocolates, but upon receiving the check we were in utter shock. The wine, pictured above, was apparently $15 a glass. We were in disbelief to see that a restaurant with an average bottle of wine price of $30 was offering a special of $15 a glass. The server never discerned this upon ordering (probably for his own benefit). I'm very disappointed in the lack of clarity and service with this business. Please ask more questions of these people, before you let them take advantage of you. It is clear to see why they offer a Groupon to get business in. read more
