It was a cold and rainy night... but we were determined to bring our pup to dinner. Edmund's Oast has a dog friendly covered patio, the Bower, that kept us dry and a little warm on a cold winter evening. There's a separate menu at the Bower than dining in the main dining room - but we got to try exactly what we wanted. Order food and drink at the bar - we didn't have a server. But first off, drinks. We started with some cocktails - The Red Wedding and How About One. Both were boozy and tasty. I particularly enjoyed the Red Wedding's hibiscus tea ice cubes! We wanted something simple but hearty - the fried chicken meal was perfect for that. We chose the Garlic Crab flavored 2-piece meal (which comes with collards and pasta salad) and also ordered the chicken combo (which was a daily special that day). Both were fantastic and perfect for a cold day. And of course, we don't leave a meal with a sweet treat. The snickerdoodle cookie sandwich was the perfect way to end the night. I was also curious about the Peanut Butter & Jelly beer, a lactose beer. It really did remind me of a PBJ, in a creamy and pleasant way. I visited on a Thursday night and the place was packed! We ordered the fried chicken, catfish, mac & peas, and mushroom & noodles -- every dish was comforting yet had its own twist. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy without being greasy, the catfish was tender and flavorful, the mac & peas was creamy with just the right amount of bite, and the mushroom & noodles had a rich, earthy flavor that made it impossible to stop eating. I've been wanting to try this restaurant so we stopped in on Saturday. First, it took us 10-15 minutes just to find the entrance. Nice atmosphere on the inside and the staff is also very friendly and conduct themselves as professionals. Now, let's get into this Chicken!! The chicken was beautiful and fried perfectly to perfection but the only disappointment was the lack of SEASONING! If you're selling fried chicken, it needs to be able to stand on its own without the sauces! Once I dipped it in sauce it was much better but I'm just not a dipper. As far as the sides went, both the collards & the pasta salad were screaming for SUGAR & SALT!! I'm from Charleston and we put sugar in our greens & mayonnaise based salads. We just came in from out of town looking for an elevated casual dinner and definitely made the right choice with Edmund's. We've been several times both inside and outside - usually have had great experiences and service but this last time was lackluster and a bit disappointing. Leaving this 3 star review to try and balance the feedback. We love their outdoor patio - easy service at the bar even when busy and lots of different seating options. Inside is nice for a special occasion or date night. We ended up with disappointing service on our most recent visit - enough so that we provided feedback to the manager who received it well and was conciliatory. We hope this was a one off but it will likely make us not prioritize returning anytime soon. Our food on the most recent visit was all fine - we had two excellent dishes and 4 that were mediocre. The pork steak was wonderful as was the mushroom and rice noodles. The salt chicken was a sham - basically bread crumbs and a tiny amount of ground chicken in a thin patty on top of plain basmati and a small amount of green curry sauce. read more

I arrived at Edmund's Oast shortly after a full day of air travel delays. I hadn't eaten yet and was rabidly hangry. My friend and I decided to sit outside given the nice weather, and we ordered at the counter. The guy working was brand new and had some trouble with my light order modifications. I ordered the Italian sandwich plus a side of curly fries. Both were huge. I definitely overate. Everything was tasty though. After we had a couple beers outside and finished our meals/cleaned up after ourselves, we headed inside and sat at the large bar. The ambiance inside was so cool, but also the a/c was blasting, like it was genuinely frigid. We had a few beers there, all sours, but ended up bouncing after that because it was far too cold to be enjoyable. If you're looking for quality beer, be sure to check out Edmund's Oast. My family and I came here as a party of 8 and we were sat in Shane's section. She was wonderful and helped with great recommendations, gave plenty of time with the menu and looking over the drink menu. My family loved everything they ordered and one of the absolute favorites was the fried chicken! Everyone could not stop talking about how delicious it was. I personally was unable to try the other food due to my celiac disease but I spoke with Shane and she was super kind about finding options of what I could eat, I went with the salt chicken. I must say the dish was mainly rice, green curry and parsley but you get a cutlet of some kind of breading that's salty and does fall apart with very thin amount of chicken protein. Tough review to decide on. Artisan Burger (7.5/10) - this is a good burger. It's a double patty with white American, bacon jam, shredded iceberg lettuce, white onion, jalapeño and mustard. The burger blend is good, the patties are thicker than a smash burger and had good seasoning and a good sear. They were cooked medium-well but still juicy. They were densely packed though, so they had a bit of a spongy texture. The bacon jam was almost nonexistent and imparted a little sweetness and no detectable bacon flavor. The burger could have used more. The white onion slices are cut too thick and can over power a bite. The jalapeños are a nice addition and weren't too spicy. Slightly disappointed given the hype. Fries (6/10) - a large basket of curly fries that could feed 3. That makes the $7 price reasonable if you are sharing, but ordering it just myself I would prefer less fries for a cheaper price or a homemade fry for that price. This place is not new but their Brunch Buffet is. Let me tell you for all the food you get it's worth it. Prime rib is their star and it is cooked just beautifully. Also at the carving table you will see pickled shrimp and salmon toast. In the library you will have access to two types of salad, fried chicken, green beans, butter beans and a curry pasta that I thought was a broccoli casserole. Expand your taste enjoy the ambiance. I've been for dinner inside before and was very impressed. We got a few drinks (the best part imo), fries, Mac n peas, the artisan burger and the shredded pork po boy. And buttered noodles for the kids. The drinks were good! The fries were basically like Arby's (although to be fair, I haven't had them in years). The Mac n cheese is curried, so while that's a fun twist for adults, it's a bomb for most kids probably, ours included. The artisan burger was fine, not bad, not great. Nothing special to it really. The po boy was good flavor, but again really simple. The hubs mentioned it would be nice If it had peppers or anything else with it. My Girlfriend and I spent this past weekend in Charleston and hit all the recommended spots and this was easily the surprise of the weekend. First off, a huge shoutout to Vinny at the bar, was one of the best bartenders ive had in a while, making great drinks, super friendly and gave us the best food recommendations. Now to the food: we started with the BBQ Escargot which was surprisingly delicious as a person who is not a fan of escargot I really enjoyed. I've always loved this location because the outdoor venue is wonderful! My friends and I sat at one of the long picnic tables and it was very comfortable temperature and really beautiful lighting. We ordered the spicy pimento cheese dip as an appetizer. It was a little bit of a flavorful punch, which is the different textures and taste. I ordered the spicy Korean meatballs, which were absolutely delicious. They had the perfect level of space along with very fresh ingredients. The only thing I would say is that I wish I had a little bit more rice in my dish to balance out the heaviness of the sauce and meatballs, but I would still order this again! I'd heard so many great things about Edmund's Oast restaurant (I've been to the brewery) and was excited to try it this past weekend. I'd heard the burger and dessert program were amazing. The day we went, the restaurant inside was closed for a private party, so we had the somewhat more limited (but not that much) menu for the outdoor area. The outdoor area is big and there's a variety of seating choices. I really liked the nice backyard vibe, and it's cool they share the lot (somewhat) with B&B. The line for the bar (where you also order food) is long, but moves quickly. One weird thing is that they have table numbers for food, so when you get to the front and order food, they ask which table you're sitting at. But if you're alone or paying separately, you can't wait at a table, and I wasn't sure what the culture call was on holding a table with your purse or whatever. The service was great - they had a hostess outside even though the seating was first come first serve for people like me who don't ever know what's going on. Anyway, we had heard so much about the burger so we got one. The Edmunds Oast burger is basically a classic burger with chopped onions and the works and we ordered a side of fries. After so much hype, I was really excited, but it really just tasted like a standard burger at a backyard cookout. I was pretty happy with that, but I did expect it to be on par with other restaurant burgers in the area. The patty was also cooked well done which I thought was a little odd. It wasn't tough or anything, but also not remarkable. The bun was well toasted ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The fries were good, but weirdly they looked different than the ones I'm seeing on Yelp. Maybe they changed them or something? But they were crispy and good, just basic, almost snack bar type fries. We ordered a couple of their frozen drinks and they were delicious and refreshing on a humid day!! We originally planned to eat I doors, but there was only one table open in the whole place, and the outdoor area was SO neat (and surprisingly cool on a very hot day), that we opted to sit outside. Drinks were good, most of the food was delicious and service was great. My husbands food was very overcooked and when the person clearing plates asked him about his mostly uneaten dinner, he told him so. Need a restaurant for 13 people? Look no further than Edmund's Oast Restaurant! Out of all the group meals I have been to I was quite impressed with our entire experience. I booked our reservation three weeks in advance. I had read the reviews that said Edmund Oast was a must-dine restaurant for large groups so I figured best to get our reservation in. They were gracious and accommodating over the phone. Upon arriving I was impressed. They had a slightly covered patio area that was large enough for our large group as well as everyone else. There was a bar outside that we were able to grab a drink to sip on while we waited for our table to be available since we arrived early. Just as reserved our table was ready and we were told to sit at the second of the two long communal tables. I was captivated by the decor. It felt like I was dining in a modern day brew hall with the small kegs along the one wall, the long communal tables, and the dim light. It was a very warm atmosphere. We had two waiters who assisted us - one was in training and the other was mentoring. They were fantastic! They never missed a beat and provided personal service as though we were a small, intimate party. It was incredible. I loved their recommendations and I appreciated their humor. The food was wonderful. The pimento cheese was interesting; spicy a bit? It was good enough our table had two. I ordered the Edmund Oast burger and couldn't have been happier. It was juicy, savory, and just delicious. I also ordered the crispy garlic potatoes which I didn't like as much but that was a texture preference since it wasn't quite potato pillows and more like potato pancakes. The cocktails were great. So I got a gift card for my birthday last year and finally decided to use it for a pre-Valentine's romantic dinner. We had called ahead, so when we arrived there was a less than 5 minute wait wherein we absorbed the relaxing if slightly damp outside dining area atmosphere. It looks like a great place to wile away an afternoon trying any or many of the 48 beers on tap. I saw a Tiki bar at one end, which would have mad appeal on a sunny day. Summoned to our hefty wooden booth, we were immediately enamored with the libraryesque atmosphere. This is our kinda place. The booths, wood with sunken candle niches with fake candles and real votives on the solid tables. The table seating, gorgeous high-backed studded leather chairs surrounding solid wood tables. Masculine but not exclusionary. I wanted to try many beers, and asked if there was a flight available. Like many airlines today, I was told no, but unlike air travel, I was offered another option: tasting glasses at ~$3/ea. Exactly the same thing, different name LOL I perused the fantastically written beer menu which is on the nose as far as description. I can't do better. My choices were exactly as advertised! I put them in the correct order for enjoyment and will be back for more! In the order I enjoyed them (of course I did intermittent sipping) which is opposite the pic: Little Brett Corvette (the funk is banana), Paloma Gose (kinda flat. She brought me some from the other tap and it was alive with pleasure), Sour Cherry Pineapple, House Belgian Dubbel, and the guest star NC's Divine Barrel Carolina Cobbler. OMG Y'ALL this is dessert in a glass. You smell the tart cherry pie filling, the flaky crust, the butter. You taste it ALL. This sweetness is my weakness. The holidays in a glass. A hug in Grandma's kitchen. A perfect wrap to a lovely meal. And I have yet to get to the meal. Appetizers of escargot and pimento cheese with a unique spin. This place wants to honor true Southern cuisine and the contributions of all cooks, not just the fancy ones. You feel the Gullah/Geechee influence in the spiced and nutty pimento cheese, with simple homey Ritz crackers to enjoy, and sweet cane syrup that makes it decadent with the peanuts. The escargot was perfectly tender, grounded with a green and herbaceous garlicky sauce and crispy bread to sop up the fragrant flavorful oil. They brought us a complimentary fried cabbage salad and again I was impressed by the melding of classic Southern cuisine with a dash of Asian nuance. I see where they're going and I like it. Hubby ordered a steak with crispy potatoes and it was heavenly. I need to know the secret to these potatoes because he may start camping out in that booth if I don't. I ordered the pickled shrimp because I love seafood and always want to try new things. Unfortunately, the pickled shrimp was underwhelming. The rye and pickled vegetable flavor overwhlemed everything else. The shrimp were kinda sad and small to begin with and then they had been cut in half! However, my server noticed my sad face immediately and asked what was wrong and how could she help. Incredibly attentive and caring! I hate to complain but told her the deal and we decided I should try a crab cake. She left me to pick out the shrimp to eat (no shrimp left behind!) and took away the rest and brought me a lovely, lemony, meaty crab cake with her apologies and meanwhile I am apologizing for complaining LOL Anyway the crab cake was great and we were stuffed, but we got dessert to go: 3 Layer Almond Toffee Cake. They packaged it beautifully with the toffee and mousse separate, and it was as incredible at home as in the restaurant. I will absolutely be back, this is a place you can take anyone from casual friends, to businesspeople you want to impress, to family you want to show the best of Charleston.
