Ughh I hate having to rate them this low because most of my experience there was fantastic. However, the only thing I was really looking forward to was the worst tasting thing we ordered, and the most expensive. Oh crab cakes, I had such high hopes for you :( Now I'm a girl that loveeeesss fresh seafood, especially with a little squeeze of lemon, but this certainly was not that. The texture of the crab cake is mushy and stringy? Kind of like they used canned crab meat and whatever acidic component they decided to use just drowned out every other flavor it may have had. Other than my disappointment with the crab cakes everything else was pretty good. The artisanal cheeseboard is super yummy (I could do without the cheese with the green bits, holy cow that is a stronggg flavor). The wine flights are great and even as someone who doesn't like wine, the whites went down smoothly. The blackberries in thyme and chai espresso martinis were both amazing (thanks for not skimping on the alcohol ). The melted fondue is okay, just okay. It was pretty busy, which is expected for a Friday night, but the servers are on top of their game and bring things out in a timely manner. After the host told us to choose a place to sit, we sat down and waited 10 minutes for our server to come over. Without introducing him self or anything he rudely asked "What are you drinking"? We ordered the 5 cheese board as an appetizer and a single glass of wine but because of the poor experience and service we had, we asked the waiter, never got his name, to cancel the food as we were no longer interested in eating there. If you're in for lunch, they do a "blank and blank" that's like a half and half basically ANYTHING. There's not much you can't do option wise. Delicious bread. I love the decor and the coziness of this place much more than its sister restaurant in Dublin. It's a great spot near Ohio State that isn't too noisy at lunchtime and the food is always great. I got the salmon salad and the fish was cooked perfectly. The cheese plate is a wonderful assortment of varied cheeses, warm bread, jam, and fruit. This place has a great atmosphere and a super cool environment. I got the summer lovin' white wine flight and that was great. I loved all 3 samples! The food was great, I asked for no onions on my salad but it came with onions. The pasta was really rich but it was still great. I actually enjoyed that it was rich because that stopped me from eating too much of it. As for the service, it was less than ideal. It took forever, we were there for over 2 hours. They did provide a free dessert which was awesome and very kind but it was still insane how long it took especially since when we left, the restaurant was dead. I have come here twice in the last month and I'm still having trouble deciding between a 3 and 4 star review. I decided to go with 4 starts because I love the atmosphere and location of this place, the wine options are out of this world, and there are lots of things on the menu I would try. The first time I came here we were heading to a concert, so I made early dinner reservations on Open Table. It worked out well, although it was a Friday night so service was a little slow. We shared the fondue trio, which was honestly a little disappointing. The cheese is supposed to be wine-infused, but it was just not the most delicious thing I've ever had. It was also a little weird with the flatbread - a sturdier bread would've matched better. I had the crab cake sandwiches for dinner, which were a little dry, and my mom had the harvest salmon salad, which she said was pretty good. All in all, the food was just fine. You can order wine from their list or pick a bottle off their shelves, which change regularly - that part is SO much fun to me. We found a pretty incredible Pinot Noir for a good price for dinner the second time we went. We tried three of the flatbreads that time, sharing types, and they tasted a little over cooked. Still, they had pretty good flavor. I would love to go back for happy hour to try more appetizers - specifically the popcorn - and find another new favorite wine. read more

We decided to go here for restaurant week 2018. We got there around 7pm and had the option of sitting inside or outside. We started with some wine, I got the World Tour flight and was very satisfied, he got the Pinot Noir, folly of the beast, which was also a great choice. For the first course he got the braised veal meatball and it was delicious. It came out very hot and the cheese was melted perfectly with just the right ratio of meat, cheese and sauce. I got the baked french brie and though it was very tasty, I don't think I would get it again due to the messiness of the dish. For the main course we ended up getting the smoked chicken tortellini and the sesame orange-glazed salmon. My favorite was the tortellini, the sauce was creamy and tasty and it comes with little crispy chunks of pancetta so the mix of textures really worked well together. The salmon was also cooked perfectly though, the sauce ratio was off (I am a sauce girl). You get a lot of rice with a nice big piece of salmon, however there is not enough sauce so you end up eating dry, plain white rice. On to dessert. We went with the rustic key lime pie and the triple chocolate pot de creme. The key lime pie was very tart and I loved it. The chocolate dish was true to the description and was very rich. Our experience was great, I will definitely return, though I think sitting inside next time to really get the rustic feel. read more

The crab cake itself will not impress if you had crab cakes from Baltimore. DELIBERATELY KNOCKING THEM DOWN A STAR for the new corkage fee (read on) ... Wine Bistro in Upper Arlington is one of our favorite places - really good wine selection, great food, big space with lots of indoor and outside tables, great service. There can be a wait to get at table, though, especially on weekends. I would give them 5 stars, but they recently added an $8 corkage fee per bottle, which frankly pisses me off. They make good money on the wine, even at retail, and we spend plenty on food while we're there. One of their best "hooks" was being able to buy a bottle (or two, or...) and enjoy it at retail price with your friends. Now they've ruined that. The $8 corkage fee rubs me the wrong way - it isn't about the money - and it makes me think another moment before coming here. Maybe I'll get over it. Maybe not. Only complaint was where we were seated - by the large wall of wine on the north side of the restaurant. One of the employees, maybe the owner would come by often and grab bottles or explain bottles etc to customers. I think I just found my new favorite spot. Bf & I weren't sure where to go for dinner and ended up here. I was not expecting the cozy ambiance, as I drive by here frequently and just kind of assumed it had the same vibe as Carsonie's across the street. Um, hello! This place is so great! I LOVED the decor and big walls of wine and I'm sure much of my joy was just being someplace new. We opted to sit at a high-top by the bar and had a great perch for people-watching. I like that you're able to shop the wall for your bottle of wine (if you don't want a full bottle you can buy by the glass). The best thing was that I saw bottles as low as $10. Kind of a bummer the corking fee is $8, but oh well. I hear the corking fee is waived on Mondays and Tuesdays. Bf & I each got a Winery Salad, which had great flavor. The proportions of ingredients were nice too - just enough gorgonzola to match the tartness of the dried cherries and counter the sweetness of the candied pecans. Really enjoyed this salad. The bread that came with it was hard as a rock though. Kinda tossed that aside. For dinner we split the Fondue Trio and Veal Meatball. Both were amazing and I would definitely order again. The fondue consisted of 3 cheeses mixed with wines. The cheddar and port was AMAZING! It came with italian bread and pita, though I could have done with just bread. The meatball was equally amazing. Tender and flavorful and covered with a delicious marinara and melted gooey cheese. (Yes, there was a lot of cheese going down at our table). For a bottle of wine, 2 salads and 2 small plates our total came to about $65. Is it great for every night? Nah. I came here with my mom on a random Monday for an afternoon snack, so the place was pretty empty except for two other tables. We both ordered the blank + blank, which means you can order a soup or salad with something else. We both opted to select a soup with a salad. I ordered the winery salad (candied pecans, dried cherries, and crumbled blue cheese atop mixed greens with a balsamic vinaigrette) with the tomato basil soup. My mom also ordered the winery salad but with the French onion soup. Both soups were fantastic and flavorful. The salad was delicious as well, but had too much dressing to the point that I could barely finish it. Next time, I will order the dressing on the side. The waiter was okay...he didn't seem genuinely friendly but was at least quick to take our orders and bring the check. The second time I came, I decided to check out the happy hour with my husband and some coworkers. Happy hour runs from 3-6pm Sun-Wed and 11-5pm Sat. You can get $5 house wines and well liquor drinks, $1 off their draft list, and discounted select items from the menu. We ordered the pepperoni flatbread (1/2 size for happy hour) and the half hummus trio. I thought both of these items were tasty, but not blow-my-mind delicious. I would definitely want to come back to try the meatball and the Juliette flatbread (brie, pear, garlic, caramelized onion, and parmesan). There's parking in the back, which is convenient. However, if you come after 4:30 pm, the lot may be filled up completely. They do take reservations so I'd recommend doing this if you have a larger party, as the place gets pretty busy. If you're looking for an intimate atmosphere, this may not be the best place since it was loud enough that it was hard to hear even the person sitting next to you as they spoke. Overall, I love the atmosphere, as the walls are filled with many varieties of wines that you can purchase to go or to drink in house (no corkage fees on Mondays and Tuesdays!). So from what I can tell, there are 2 similarly named chain wine bistros in Columbus. One is named The Wine Bistro (Upper Arlington, Clintonville, Worthington, Westerville), and then there's The Wine Guy Bistro (Gahanna, New Albany, Pickerington.) I've been to both, and can say with confidence that The Wine Bistro is superior to The Wine Guy Bistro. First, the ambience. The Wine Bistro in Upper Arlington has more of a warm, cozy, classy decor which I prefer to The Wine Guy's post-modern look in Gahanna. I also appreciate their patio seating during warm weather months. Second, the food. The food here in general is tastier, and better suited to a wine tasting in my opinion. On my most recent visit, we had an order of the cheese platter, the antipasto platter, butcher's choice, and chicken pesto flatbread. The butcher's choice hanger steak was phenomenal. While I love seafood, the Wine Guy's menu is too seafood-heavy, which really limits my options when I want to do a flight of red wine. (Red wine and seafood is probably the worst food-drink pairing known to mankind, in my opinion.) The one thing that this place could do better, I think, is to offer a wider variety of wine flights. read more

Hey, so I know this place has the word "wine" in the name, but could I please talk to you about the unexpectedly amazing food? I visited this place for lunch today with my mother and grandmother, and I didn't talk to either of them because I was too busy inhaling my California Garden Patch Baguette. So saucy. So oily. So cheesy. I'm going to be dreaming about it longingly for the next month. I also had a salad of field greens (a.k.a. fancy-pants lettuce) in a sugary-sweet balsamic vinaigrette that's worth a shout-out. I paired my meal with a dry but fruity white Bordeaux, which didn't taste bad, but was so reminiscent of Welch's white grape juice that I couldn't think of anything else while I drank it. I would get something else next time, or if I was going to be staying for awhile, I might try one of their tasting flights before ordering my meal. I tend to go a little hog wild when it comes to ordering wine by the glass, so I really had to rein myself in here, and pick only one. If you visit this place, you should know that I was wearing (nice) jeans, an old black sweater, and my somewhat beat up leather jacket, and I felt pretty under-dressed, even in the early afternoon. Everyone else was noticeably more dressed up than I was. Also, my mom and dad tried to go during the evening on a Friday night and waited for more than an hour to get their table because it was so crowded inside, so if you want to avoid those shenanigans, try it for lunch or during the evening earlier in the week. read more

I am the furthest thing from an oenophile--I'm still in the red wine with red meat and white wine for everything else phase, but I love this place. The food and wine are pretty good and the service is great. The wife and I have been here twice, both times on spur of the moment afternoon dates. had the melted fondue trio twice, now and loved it both times. The Ementhaller and Sauvignon Blanc fondue will keep us coming back again and again. We also have had the "Blank and Blank" each time. Most recently, I had the Bistro Meatball Baguette as part of my combo, which was darn tasty. I've also had the Braised Veal Meatball flatbread (basically the same thing, now that I think about it), which was decent but a little less successful. The tomato sauce they use on this is a touch too sweet for me. Plus, I always feel a little guilty about eating veal. Most recently, I had a 2008 Malbec that was very smooth. Like I said, I'm no oenophile so I can't invoke any more sophisticated comparisons like "oaky", "smokey" , "woody", "grumpy", "sneezy", "doc"... wait a second. Anyway, it tasted pretty good and lunch for two with drinks came to a little less than $50. Pretty good value, I think. The ambiance is quite nice. This is one of those places that always makes me feel slightly more sophisticated than I actually am. Or maybe it's the wine. There are several two and four tops, a bar area and a larger table near the front of the space for large groups. Additionally, there's a neat private dining room that would be a fun night out for a smaller group or a few couples. Perhaps one day when I retire and have sufficiently pickled my liver enough to become knowledgeable about wine, I'll turn up my nose at places like The Wine Bistro, but till then I'll keep coming back for good food, good wine and friendly service. read more

The best salads and hummus anywhere. I'm not a salad or fish fan but the Harvest Salmon Salad has changed that for me. Salmon done to perfection, salad greens that are fresh and dry, and the addition of plump blueberries and walnuts. Best I've ever had. They also have really good hummus and outstanding olive tapenade. Small parking lot behind the store but you can park in Lane Avenue Shopping Center across the street. Lots of annoying construction right now, too. Hope the additional apartments and businesses won't make traffic and parking an issue for visiting. read more

I went with my friends for restaurant week. We ordered a bottle of riesling and we all ordered from the restaurant week menu. I ordered the bAked french brie, chicken saltimbocca and chocolate custard dessert. The baked french brie was very sweet but a good mix. I didnt appreciate the fact that they cut up the apple slices without cleaning the top of the stem part. The apples should be cut in half to put on top of the bread. Since its thin, it was hard to slice. Once i cut into the brie, i felt like there was less brie than the actual crossiaNt. So at times i felt like i was putting bread on top of bread and no cheese. I like carbs tho so it was still tasty for me. My friend ordered the tomato bisque which was creamy and went well with the bread. I then ordered the chicken saltimbocca, that was delicious.. probably where all the stars are given! The chicken thigh was juicy, flavored and the potatoes were great! The oven baked penne that my other friend ordered was bland. It was just cream but no flavor. It needed pepper or .. something... my friend left quite a bit. The desserts were okay.. way too sweet. The apple crisp didnt have any crisp part to it.. and if u finish the granola with it, it was just to cinnamon-y. DaRk chocolate mousse was too rich that it wasnt smooth like mousse. Be careful when you order the wine because it includes a corkage fee of $8 which is included in the price shown on the menu unless you take the bottle? I'm not sure if i understood it correctly with the sass our waitress shown us.
