Top 5 restaurant in central Ohio. Well deserved. Nice menu, but your choices are limited. I was surprised, of the five entree choices, two were pork (we don't eat pork) and no chicken option. We settled on the steak and black cod, although we really did not want red meat. Our server Kelcie, who was 5* by the way, helped us in navigating all the intricacies to the ingredients. Lots of nuance to the menu. Our choices: lamb appetizer, black cod, sirloin, and chocolate mousse; each were tasty, presented well, and excellent dishes. The potato cake on the steak was very different and well done. Our Old Fashion had a nice taste. The place is very small and reservations are a must. The GM Michael came by and chatted us up...to thank us for coming, and glad they were able to accommodate our food needs. Nice touch. Excellent bathrooms. Thanks for that. I was in town to celebrate my mother's 96 birthday and was out with my son and daughter in law. They highly recommended this unique restaurant and we were not disappointed. The small cozy atmosphere was a delight to enjoy a wonderful meal and conversation. The drinks were exceptionally great and since I'm coming from California, very affordable. The food was delicious, especially the braised beef croquets, chicken friend mushrooms, whipped ricotta, and sourdough. The pork collar and the tare squash were beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. I requested the sommelier to recommend a wine that would compliment our order and the Domaine de Ferrand Chateauneuf - du- Pape a fine French wine from the Rhone Valley was our selection. The service and atmosphere makes Genes a 5 star spot. The food is incredible everytime. The striploin is perfectly cooked with an incredible potato underneath. Appetizer wise, We enjoyed the beef tatki more than the lobster salad but both were light and fresh. The pork collar was prominent in pork flavor but overall a unique dish. Desserts are very unique and was more savory than expected. The way the servers are able to describe the menu is an art. read more

Enjoyed a Saturday date night at Gene's. The place is small and was completely packed, but we were glad we had reservations: however, when we were shown to our seats, they were barstools at the crowded bar. We were a little taken aback, and the host explained that the reservation system does note that some seats are bar seats and some are tables, but that the confusion does happen a lot. (If that's the case, something about the reservation system should probably be fixed for clarity.) Despite that disappointment, we settled in at the bar and chose some dishes to share. The food was inventive and artistic: for instance, we were served a "split pea" and lobster salad that was like a deconstructed split pea soup. Each plate looked like a piece of art, with colorful, rich sauces (like the horseradish creme beneath the striploin and pave entree). I was invited here by two of my friends last night and it was my first time coming here. Let me tell you, it was absolutely phenomenal. The dining area was so clean and just beautiful. The bar was gorgeous and the wine selection was to die for. The hostess and the waitress we had were the nicest people, they knew all about the wine and the food. Our waitress walked us through everything and made every dish sound superb. The food itself was absolutely breathtaking. I even told my friends the moment it hit the table the smell alone was enough to satisfy me. The food was truly amazing, all three of us split two orders of the crudo which were so tasty. The pop or the oranges and onions really gave it a kick that I loved. Then we also split one order of the ricotta cavatelli which was jam packed with flavor. I am a big artichoke fan and the addition of artichokes and peas into it was an amazing plus to the dish. Then I had the Black Cod for my main and it just melted in my mouth. It was so flaky and the sauce they poured at the table paired with it so well. There was not one bit of it left on my plate. Then finally for desert they had two option, a Venezuelan Quesillo and a Mille Feuille. We decided to get one of each and split it. They were both wonderful. The Mille Feuille was so tasty with a combination of the pastry, the cream, and the raspberry sorbet on the top. When you got a bite with all three it was heaven. The Quesillo was something new to me I had never had flan before, but the whole table was raving about it. The caramel, the custard, the pistachios, all were just magnificent. Overall, I had a fantastic first experience at Gene's and they will be seeing me again in the future. We had high hopes for Gene's and decided to give it a try for a birthday dinner with friends on a Tuesday night. The restaurant itself was very cozy--cute, fun atmosphere, and it was full when we arrived. We made a mistake with the reservation and ended up with bar seats, but the host was very kind and accommodated our request to switch to a table due to a no-show. The service was fine. It was attentive, but with the pricing, we expected slightly warmer interactions. Our server asked about our occasion but didn't offer or acknowledge anything after learning it was for a birthday--not even a candle on the dessert we ordered, which was a little disappointing. Lastly, the food. Again, we came in with high hopes since Gene's was mentioned by several local blogs as a fun new spot. We got the raw fish and croquetta appetizers--they were good, but for the price, you'd get much more at a Japanese restaurant. For entrées, we ordered the pork chop, steak, mushroom, and black cod. Everyone agreed the dishes were a bit underwhelming and needed more flavor. You get much more for your money if you drive another 15-20 minutes downtown to Basi, Veritas, Speck, Lindey's, etc. Our bill ended up around $400, but nothing was particularly memorable. Overall, it's a little sad to see that Gene's isn't much different from most restaurants in the Dublin area. I guess we'll stick with Kitchen Social at Bridge Park and the Pearl. read more

Was in town for a mom's weekend away and decided after talking to our hotel bartender, Neil that we wanted to visit Gene's. We were nervous at first because no one we talked to knew what Gene's was BUT we are SO SO SO glad we went! From the moment you step onto their property it was such an incredible experience. Who knew such a cute and quaint little restaurant could pack so much flavor and art into their food and such a personalized dining experience. While we had a reservation at 8:45, we decided to eat in at the bar after having the most incredible espresso martini of our lives and talking to John. My sister and I opted to share multiple courses - each of which was better than the last. It was an amazing experience and we were lucky enough to compliment and thank the executive chef in person. We left full and satisfied but not stuffed which is exactly what we were looking for! Packed to the brim, our reservation for three landed us at the bar--no complaints here, as the host's warm intro to the bartenders (rocking suspenders like it's 1925) set the tone. Service? The minute we got to the door, we were greeted by a greeter who opened the door for us. They were smiling, happy, and inviting. We ordered the whipped ricotta with grilled sourdough and radishes. The ricotta was topped with olive oil and it was delicious. The sourdough alone was worth ordering. We then ordered two seasonal cocktails which were incredible. Not sugary, plenty of flavor (including the flavor of the liquor itself) which was perfectly crafted for the season. The "Tequila Mockingbird" and the "Drawing Room" are great if you visit soon. Then, our waitress was kind enough to offer her opinion on wines which ended up being great. The entrees were incredible. The cavatelli and striploin were the perfect end to our meal. The horseradish sauce that came with the steak made me actually enjoy horseradish for the first time. Atmosphere: Small, cozy, chic, and homey. It felt familial and warm while still feeling upscale. Service: The staff were so kind and helpful. They were around the whole time (without hovering) and they really added to the experience. Food: Worth every penny and perfectly crafted by the chef. Gene's is a very cute restaurant that's opened up on high street. The service is wonderful. The only hitch was that when we arrived at our reservation time it took them 20 mins to seat us, but they were very polite about it, so all good. The menu is ordered in terms of small, medium, and large plates and served family style. We shared their ricotta with toast (which I guess was like a small plate, but quite filling). The ricotta was good but the toast was too salty, which was unfortunate. We shared their pork chop for dinner, which was fabulous. Cooked perfectly and on a bed of salad with the most delicious dressing. Oh, and my wife really liked her cocktail as well. We are looking forward to returning! read more

GUYS HOLY HECK!!!! How have I not been here?! Superior place in downtown historic Dublin. You definitely have to make reservations considering the size of the place. But totally worth it. Old French vibes. Very me. Service was good, staff was nice. You know I got a nice, crisp glass of Sauvy B. I went with my friend and it was the most perfect night. We got the ricotta whipped spread app and come on people. So yummy. It came with amazing sourdough that was super fresh. We both got the pasta that was alright. I wouldn't get that again, I would no doubt try something else. But from start to finish, the whole experience was awesome. I definitely recommend for any occasion. Great vibes with clean lines and decor. The host is friendly and polite. This place is a hidden gem that invites you to get lost in good conversations and well curated cocktails. Each meal is prepared with technical precision and presentation. You can tell with each bite that the chef has prepared the meal with intention and love. Found out about this gem of a restaurant while browsing list of best new restaurants of 2024. We had dinner there on a snowy January night and the experience was well worth the trip out on the snow. The cocktails we ordered were the Good Hearted Villain, Vieux Carre and a wonderful Syrah. We started our meal with oysters, and an order of the squash. For dinner we had the chicken fried mushrooms, bone-in pork chop and wrapped it up with chocolate mousse. Our server George was fun and had great suggestions. Been here many times and typically found it very good. As a 30 year New Yorker (transplanted to Dublin) i admired the look and feel of the restaurant as it remined me of the little places i liked in the west village. Last night was unfortunately a big miss. Service and Oysters were good but down hill from there. The croquette was beautifully made, but dry and stringy. The eggplant tonkastu, so promising in the description, was bland, lifeless and boring as a total flavor profile. My MIL liked her chicken fried mushrooms, and the pork chop was good as always, but its pairing with the grits was a miss - they were perfectly rich with cream, but again lifeless, boring and under seasoned as was the entire meal. The menu does a wonderful job painting a picture of inventive food that i want to try but the execution fell short in almost every category other than presentation. read more
