This may be one of the only reasons to visit the Rio. It's hidden in a beautiful rustic wine cellar, around a few corners and out of sight of the casino. It's worth the hunt to find it! Jose was such a delight- he talked us through some of the wine options and made great conversation. Joe was so lovely and kind as well! Both of them have been there for over a decade and clearly know their stuff! We enjoyed warm bread with two different wine flights before our dinner at Voodoo steak house as part of them anniversary special. $130 for a wine flight and a 3 course meal! What a deal!!! We walked right in & the place was dead with only 2 other tables filled. We got seated right away & service was polite & attentive. The ambiance felt like you're in a vintage cave similar to one of the wineries we've been to Napa. It felt relaxing & personable. Hubby ordered the worldwide red wine adventure which included 3 flights...a Malbec, Tempranillo, & Chianti. I had the Joe's the best of the best Cabernet which included 3 different pours of Cabernet. I'm from LA & have always been into cabs but recently have transitioned to old world wines bc it pairs better with food in my opinion. However, hubby suggested we have an open mind & order both the old world & new world wines. Surprisingly, I thought the cabs tasted better than the old world wines. The cabs listed on the menu are ones that I've never had before & it was bold as expected but solid. I've had better old world wines so it was just okay. This review has nothing to do with the wine, the tasting experience, the service, or the decor. We never even made it that far. We had a confirmed reservation for Friday, December 19, 2025 at 6:30 PM for a party of seven. The reservation was made online, accepted, and confirmed by email. I even received an email the day before asking me to confirm that we would be there, which I did. On top of that, I called the night before with questions about the menu. Although there is no direct phone line to The Wine Cellar, I was connected to a concierge who, while not fully familiar with every detail, took the time to review the website and menu with me. At no point was there any indication that the wine cellar would be closed. Everything showed as open, normal hours, reservations active. We arrived on time for our reservation and found the place completely closed. This was not a casual drop-in. It took effort to get this group together. We had friends in town visiting who Ubered to the location from The Strip, we drove in from North Summerlin, and others came from Henderson. We dressed up in holiday attire and planned this as a special night out leading into Christmas. It mattered to us. Instead, we were left standing there confused and disappointed, and ended up spending the rest of the evening sitting at another bar in the casino eating nachos. Not exactly the Napa-inspired wine experience we were excited about. If a business is closed, it should not be accepting online reservations, sending confirmation emails, or asking guests to reconfirm their attendance. Employees and concierge staff should be aware of closures. And if something truly unexpected happened, a facility issue or last-minute closure, then someone should be contacting guests with confirmed reservations. That would not have been difficult. We relocated to Las Vegas from Northern California years ago and were genuinely excited to visit a Napa inspired Wine Cellar because we miss that wine culture and wanted to share it with friends. As locals, it is incredibly disappointing to see a business handled this way. I want to support places where I live, but this experience left us frustrated and upset. Located inside the Rio Casino and Hotel. Came for a wine tasting event via an email received from the Rio Hotel and Casino. Arrived, inside casino and followed signs to the back of the casino (Near smashburger). The wine Cellar is on the bottom floor and is actually down a flight of stairs. As you enter you take a spiral staircase down to what imitates a winery tasting room, nice ambiance. On some nights they have dueling pianos. Which were hard to hear and seating was scattered and majority were not in view of the pianos. The wine tasting consisted of 4 Justin wines and light snacks (salami, cheese, crackers, bread, and chips). The snacks were obsolete for majority of the experience. I was able to see what the snacks were based on the other attendees plates that were piled high. Nonetheless the wine tasting was for a limited time and the pours were lacking literally a sip or two per pour. Service was friendly, overpriced for the selection of snacks and tiny pours. Recently reopened in April 2024, the Wine Cellar stands head and shoulders above everything the Rio Hotel and Casino offers. We visited the cellar on May 2nd as part of my wife's birthday celebration. It was just her and me, looking for a night of wine tasting and picture opportunities. We got everything we hoped for. She got a Riesling wine flight (#2), and I picked up a bourbon flight (#13) we were served by the amazing Joel, who offered a warm, welcoming tone as well as valuable insight as to what we were about to experience. This place was awesome! We had wine tasting reservations at an affordable price. The sommelier was amazing and very knowledgeable about the wines that' was presented for the evening. He had great character and good vibes. I believe his name was Dave. He introduced us to the John Elway wines, which started off with a Chardonnay then moved on to the reds like the Pinot noir and Cabernets. The reservation came along with an amazing charcuterie line that was self serve and all you can eat. It was very pleasant to pair with the tasting of some fabulous wines. All the staff here was excellent. The ambiance was great it had that Tuscany rustic feel to it. They even offered 50 percent off on all of the wines that was part of the tasting for the evening. We already explore new worlds so, discovering new places on terra firma is just one more step. This exploration is geared towards providing an individual with sheer decadence surrounded by beautiful bottles of bubbly and wine on fluffy soft leather couches! Do I have to ever leave? The decor of the entrance and whole concept is just beautiful with so much creative and charm present. The feeling beacons for those who love wine to come and share in this joy. When you reach the bottom of the staircase the Wine purveyor and our guide offered seating immediately. The guest feels like family here. We were shown where all the wine was kept. Plus a bonus for us the manager loves Star Trek. We felt like family here. Our extended Federation family of course. Awesome ambiance and service, but overpriced even for the The Strip. I've wanted to come here for awhile. My husband and I were seeing a show at The Rio so we came in before our show. There really wasn't much information about what's offered on their website so we went in not knowing what food and drinks were offered. Walking in I immediately liked the ambiance. Located downstairs from the main casino area it is a cozy space with a rustic winery feel. Seating includes a long bar, tables, and couches. Seating areas are nicely spaced out. My husband and I opted to lounge on one of the couches and thought it was a comfortable way to enjoy our wine. The woman that helped us was friendly and attentive. As soon as we walked in she greeted us and offered us menus. She encouraged us to sit anywhere we liked and she'd be over soon to take our order. We were given the perfect amount of time to look over the menu without being rushed. She continued to check on us enough that we felt taken care of, but not so much that her presence was intrusive to our experience. The menu offers many different wine flight options as well as wines by the glass. Flights start at around $30, but most are $50-$60. Each flight comes out to about two glasses of wine. I saw on Yelp that they were working to improve their food menu so I thought they might have a few appetizers. On our visit the menu only offered a couple of cheese flights, a couple (literally two) meats, and items you'd get with cheese plates like olives or nuts. We wanted a glass of wine each so we shared a flight of Pinot Noirs. Three of the wines in the flight were good. Ironically, the most expensive wine in the flight was not good at all. We ordered a cheese flight that included gouda, cheddar, and Parmigiano-Reggiano. This was a sad display with some dried fruit around the cheese. It did come with a large bread basket featuring the same breads served at Voodoo. For $30 and a nice wine bar you'd expect a nicer spread with mustards, jams, or nuts. We also ordered the meat plate which had five pieces of two different meats. The meats were delicious, but again the presentation was sad with just a small cup of olives on the side. All said, we had the equivalent of two glasses of wine, some cheese, some meat, and a lot of bread for around $140 with tip. I realized later that this spot offers 25% off to locals, but even with that discount this spot would be a hard pass. Next time I'd just skip this spot, spend a little extra money, and have a full dinner at Voodoo Steakhouse. read more

Descend the winding, wrought iron stair case down to the cellar. There is a feeling of being removed from the rest of the casino. While they have a great selection of wines if you are going in for a tasting/flight they need to open NEW bottles of vino and not ones that have been sitting on the counter for days. I have sensitive palate and enjoy good a nice glass of wine and the tasting I had were awful. As a tasting room, once you open a bottle of wine and you expose it to oxygen the aromatics and flavor start to reduce dramatically. This is the first step of your wine going bad. After 24 hours a bottle of wine is pretty much shot as it starts to develop stale flavors. I have traveled all over the world and this way by far worst wine cellar/tasting room. The Wine Cellar at The Rio is a good place to stop in for drinks either before of after going to dinner in Vegas and has become one of our regular stops when we go to Vegas. The Wine Cellar is located downstairs from the Masquerade Village in the The RIO. You really need to look for it to find it. The Wine Cellar keeps the noise from the casino floor to a minimum so you can sit and enjoy your wine. Once you get downstairs, you'll find yourself inside an actual wine cellar where you can either sit at the bar or plop yourself down in one of the several couches they have there. There is a wide variety to choose from. You can order wine by the glass or if you're up for experimenting a little, one of the several wine flights they have. We trusually get the flights when we visit there. Surprisingly, we found the prices pretty reasonable and the pours rather generous. There is a limited menu of cheese and snacks if you want a little something to nibble on with your wine. They have recommended pairings but I wouldn't be afraid to order the food according to your own ideas if you know your own palate. I won't attempt to drill down too much into the individual wines since everyone has such different palates. Half the fun of this place is learning about everyone's different likes, dislikes and food bigotries. Started with flight 5 Grassy Fields and Flight 1 Fresh Cheese. Cheese was served with sliced baguette french bread. Cheese was good but nothing wowed me. Enjoyed the Frogs Leap Sauvignon Blanc, Craggy Fields S.B. was just ok, Surprised by the Compte LeFond Sancerre! Not usually a big Sancerre fan but this one won me over. Mentioned to our server that I liked stilton and she produced some to try next. It was delicious and worked perfectly with the red wines we ordered (Frei Bros Merlot, Grgich Zinfandel, Atardi Tempranillo Rioja). Had some grapes, cheese and the reds and was in heaven. The Rioja was easily the best wine I tried and inspired me to order some extra Manchego cheese to pair it with...YUM. At this point the entire bar was covered with wine glasses, cheese and smiling happy customers. Servers here are knowledgeable and friendly. Atmosphere: Cozy downstairs setting ... reminiscent of a cellar (surprise); however, music from the band which plays upstairs is somewhat loud and intrudes on the setting. Pricing: Yes, it's overpriced ... but it's also Las Vegas; I can't think of a wine bar or cigar lounge located in a Las Vegas casino that isn't overpriced. Great place. I love the way they have flights set up so you can try several different wines within a particular style. My wife had Flight 5, Grassy Fields. This consists of 3 different Sauvignon Blancs. I had Flight 16, Planes Trains and Cabs. This consists of 3 different Cabernets. We also ordered a cheese plate which compliments the wine nicely. We accidentally found this gem while staying at the Rio. Don't stay at the Rio but take time to go to Wine Cellar & Tasting room! We were greeted like special guests and had the most delightful conversation with our server and the manager. The wine flights were amazing and the cheese selections and bread incredible! Highly recommend! We went here twice during our stay. read more
