    Tomahawk steak

My family took me here for Mother's Day dinner and it was fabulous! Shawn and Joel took good care of us all night. We tried the Tomohawk steak and wow, was it good! We also had the kimchi potstickers appetizer and afogatto for dessert. Everything was delicious and we had a really fun night.

Happy hour chicken wings, garlic truffle fries and Hung's Margarita.

We met several times over a 7 month period to prepare our wine. We'd make a party out of it each time. We each brought a bottle of wine and an appetizer to share. They have an area set up with tables for us to place it all. They provided us with wine glasses and pitchers of water. The staff is so knowledgeable about wine production and they did a great job explaining the process to us on each visit. On this particular visit, our wine was complete, so we were all part of the assembly line that got to bottle it up. We each took a case of wine home. Now I have 12 bottles of delicious wine to continue enjoying!

Last night was my first time visiting in over two years and it was such a nice treat. My friend and I showed up around 5 and sat at the bar to grab a tasting. There is a really comfy cozy vibe inside. We picked which option we wanted and started from there. About three tastings in (we don't really drink) we needed to add some carbs to the party so we checked out the food menu. $10 for a small pizza, not bad at all. The pizza is made in the oven right there and smells so good! I think we spent two or more hours at Vegas Valley Winery and enjoyed every minute. I can't wait to come back and bring one of our other friends too. I highly recommend you check out VVW if you haven't yet!

Along with a very potent cocktail, he showcased his Riesling and Vidal Icewines, and some lucky guests were treated a "sneak" taste of his third Icewine, the Cabernet Franc. The Equifera Icewines (Riesling and Vidal) + Icewine Martini were fantastic, especially paired with the hors d'oeuvres (mini crab cakes, potato and duck egg rolls, and assorted chocolate truffles). The brief presentation by the father of modern icewine making, Donald Ziraldo, was informative and insightful. I love dessert wines, so hearing about the microclimate, harvesting the grapes, and non-traditional pairings for the exquisite icewine was especially interesting. Donald was definitely the right man for the job of Global Ambassador for Canadian Icewine. The sampling of the icewine was a nice treat. I really enjoyed the Vidal Icewine, which has a really nice bouquet of tropical fruits flavor notes. And getting a sip of the Cabernet Frac Icewine was really a nice treat (Thanks Dean!) I am for sure going to Total Wines to get me a few bottles. Thank you Yelp (Misti) and Patricia Nims (Kruger Wines and Spirits) for partnering up and offering this wonderful evening of extreme icewine tasting, and providing a great function for networking with other professionals. The banquet staff at the Trump International Hotel. And a big shout out to Donald Ziraldo and the folks at Equifera for creating this awesome wine! 5 stars all the way! Now go out and treat yourself to a nice bottle of Equifera Icewine :)

But over the last year, I have discovered I like the taste of whiskey! Call it age....call it a more advanced palate....whatever you call it....mama likes! I never want to do things without educating myself, so what is a lady to do? Go to a class of course! Seriously....if I could have taken these classes in college....I would have been class Valedictorian! First of all JD was so accommodating, we had a change in our schedule and he came in on an unscheduled night so we could have the class before leaving early the next morning. The Whiskey Attic is located about a 10 minute drive off the strip in a quiet more industrial area. I like to point these things out because I like to know what to expect when driving to unknown areas. We took an Uber and it was easy to get a car to and from the location. JD greeted us at the door and right away we picked up on his brilliance about everything from sports, history and Whiskey of course! Because we were the only two there for this course it was a nice date night but honestly this would have been fun to do as a party, business ice breaker, or just something different. We did the introduction course, and not only did we learn about whiskey but wines, beers, anything you could want to know. And because The Whiskey Attic isn't trying to sell you product, you get to learn about all varieties, countries, and regions without being pushed to a particular brand. JD walked us through how to taste whiskey and how to drink it! After our class, JD asked us a series of questions and chose a selection of 6 brands he though we would like (the place is beautifully full of whiskey and JD knows where every bottle is) and we commenced tasting his selections! He nailed my tastes down to a tee and I enjoyed every one of the sample! We definitely want to go to the more advanced class next time we are in Las Vegas. I feel much more confident about ordering whiskey when I am out and about knowing what I like because of this class! Loved meeting JD and am looking forward to our next visit!

I had no idea I'd be committing to 20 tastings when I signed up for this event, honestly, I thought maybe 8-10 tastings. But as a wine aficionado, how does one say no? The event came with a wrist band, a souvenir wine glass, a punch card and a raffle ticket. The wine walk had 20 tasting stations, everything from Riesling, to Merlot, to Muscat to Shiraz. Each wine ranging from $10-$20 per bottle. I have to admit, I only liked about 1/2 of the wines. But what a joy it was tasting everything anyway. It seemed like all of the red wines were on one side of Town Square while all of the whites were on the other. I wish they would have mixed it up a little bit more. With 20 tasting sessions, Yelp was hosting 2 of them. It was fun to meet so many of my friends such as Mel C., Terri R., and Tracy P., plus see other familiar faces like Ron L, River H.and Molly T. With my Yelp check in, I received a wine charm, another added bonus to the evening. I'm told each event has different wines, but from the 4/29/13 event - The best wine by my book? By far the Truffle Merlot at stop 15. The worst wine?? The Ed Hardy wine - *bleh*! This was the only wine that William tossed in the bushes (it was one of 3 I did). I love events that give to charity, and I also love wine, this was a perfect mix of both. I'll definitely do this again, only next time I'll arrange a designated driver!
