We sat outside along Carroll Creek on a perfect evening and honestly the setting alone is worth the visit. But the food is what will bring you back. The pressed watermelon, feta and pistachio salad with vanilla onion jam was a nightly special and was outstanding... one of those dishes that sounds unexpected but every element makes complete sense together. The dill pickle hummus was a standout starter as well. The pork belly and grits is a classic on their menu for a reason... rich, perfectly executed, and totally delivers on the hype. The duck breast and filet with foie gras butter were both exceptional mains... the kind of dishes that remind you why you go out to eat. Do not overlook the sides. The potato salad especially is criminally underrated. We stopped in for Sunday brunch, and it didn't disappoint. The service is always friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is one of my favorite parts of dining downtown. My friend and I arrived around 1pm on Sunday for lunch. We didn't have a reservation but were seated away. They were on their brunch menu. We ordered a (French press) coffee and we split the Burrata Toast to start. And because we weren't in the mood for "breakfast" food we both ordered the Wagyu Burger. The first French press coffee we received was full of grounds so we had to send it back for another one once we were able to get assistance (our server was nowhere to be found). Wow! This place blew us away! From the cozy booths to the menu, everything feels very curated and elevated. True to its name, it's literally along Carroll Creek with beautiful views and many other local businesses nearby. Staff are friendly. When I popped in around 1 p.m. on a Thursday in January, I sat at the bar. Their wine menu is robust with many fun flights. Since it was winter, I got their flight featuring white wines for cold months. One was from Italy, another from Greece, and the third was from Slovenia. I love that they included Balkan wine. The service was outstanding and the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. We ordered the braised short rib for two and ordered some sourdough bread while waiting for our entree. The bread was amazing and came with some butter and some type of homemade ham. The bread was so warm and soft on the inside and crunch on the outside. We were able to converse while eating the bread and sampling the wine under the lighted stars ceiling (I swear I saw a shooting star in the lights). The entree came with plenty of food and included a gravy on top of the beef, Yukon mashed potatoes, and green beans. The food was seasoned perfectly and the mashed potatoes were SO good with the beef. They weee buttery and had enough salt to where I didn't need to add any. I really liked this restaurant, but my dining experience was a tiny bit abnormal. My first impression when walking in was, "wow, it smells weird in here." I can't explain the smell, just that it was stale and didn't seem to come from the food. Perhaps it was the building itself, but with having a sensitive nose the smell affected my enjoyment of the food. I ordered the wagyu burger and beef fat fries as my entree and the sweet potato cheesecake for dessert. The wagyu burger was big and hard to eat - not just because the burger itself was tall, but a lot of liquid leaked out of the burger with every bite and was quite messy for my hands and the plate. Otherwise, the burger was good. I enjoyed the beef fat fries. They were crispy and soft and perfectly seasoned. The sweet potato cheesecake isn't my typical go-to, but I decided to try something new. I'm not a fan of cranberries and they were a bit too sweet for me, but the rest of the dessert was perfect - sweet, savory, creamy, crunchy and soft! The service was above par. Typically, at restaurants the only waiter to engage with me (aside from "Welcome/Bye") is the one waiting my table. I talked to several waiters and staff here and they were genuinely friendly. Great spot in downtown fredrick! The location was a tad hard to find for a tourist in the area but I eventually found it after going through the elevators across the library parking structure. There was some miscommunication about the drink specials as the drinks on the bill at the end of the night did not reflect the prices on the menu. Aside of that, the food and ambiance was great. The beef fat fries were yummy but you couldnt tell the difference between the beef fat and regular fries tbh. My table split the salad, which was plenty and an entree essentially. The service from front of house staff to waitstaff was exceptional--warm, welcoming and attentive. The burgers received 5 stars from the meat eaters at the table. As the vegetarian at the table, I enjoyed the $27 two-course deal, ordering the Burrata and Mushroom Hash. The Burrata was beautifully plated and screamed creativity with the paired flavors and components, elevating beyond the usual tomato/balsamic pairing. The focaccia was fresh with just the right level of crunch, and the perfect vehicle for enjoying each texturally complex and flavorful bite. The Mushroom Hash (I sub'd egg whites) was similarly bold in flavor. A touch over salted for my taste but not overwhelmingly so. It also would have benefit from a bit more of the underlying sauce to provide a bit more cohesion to the dish. I celebrated my birthday today at The Wine Kitchen in downtown Frederick and it was fantastic! We didn't have reservations, so we were seated at the bar while waiting for our table. Our party of four sampled a wine flight, a delicious cocktail called the "Gone Girl," and two local beers. Everything was excellent. We had barely taken a few sips before our table was ready. We were seated by the window, which was perfect because the natural light made the space feel bright and inviting. The service was stellar and the restaurant runs like a well-oiled machine. We had four different staff members taking care of us, the hostess, bartender, our server, and manager who kept the table spotless by clearing plates and refreshing silverware between courses. We started with the dill pickle hummus, which was a vibrant green hummus infused with fresh dill pickle flavor and chickpeas, served with a generous helping of fried falafel balls. It was unique and absolutely delicious. For entrees, our group had a great mix. The mushroom strudel came with a lovely side salad and was buttery, warm, earthy, and full of flavor. Two diners chose the smash burgers with beef tallow fries, which were a big hit. A big standout was the KBBBQ riblet with fries, a substantial boneless BBQ rib slab that got rave reviews. We got the shareable prime ribs and they melt in your mouth, so delicious! They had a 3-course menu ($55) for Restaurant Week which everyone in our party took advantage of except me and my husband who ordered off the regular menu. The food was exceptional. Hubby and I ordered Maple-Glazed Pork belly for our appetizer and the Short Ribs for 2 for our main course. The pork belly came with grits. Although it was delicious, it was pricy ($18) given the portion. Literally just two bites per person. LOVED the short ribs. It was so tender and wonderfully flavored. We ordered the mac & cheese and mashed potatoes for our sides which were equally amazing. For convenience, I would have preferred if they served it on individual plates rather than putting it on a platter. For dessert, I ordered a scoop of the Salted Caramel. The sea salt was not dispersed evenly so some bites were very salty compared to others. Also, the ice cream was semi-melted and runny. I want my ice cream to be firm and solid. My friends and their spouses enjoyed their meals and alcoholic beverages. We enjoyed the food, drinks, service and each other's company. I haven't laughed that much in a while. It was a fun evening. Especially those magical brussel sprouts... I am a brussel snob and these were by far the most scrumptious, luscious and tantalizing! I love it here! This was my second time and it's better than the first. I got some of my favorites... oysters, steak, fries. Everything was delicious, but the standout was the beef fat fries. I had an out of body experience... I felt like Keanu Reeves in "Beef". If you haven't seen it, do! Service was very attentive and made good recommendations. It was a bit liquid-y but that's because it came out hot. The smash burger had a crispy, well grilled meat, and a light sauce at the bun. Fries are crispy enough for its thickness. The shrimp and grits are such a good entree. The shrimps are huge and the sauce is just lightly spiced. We loved our meal: the dill pickle hummus; the sparkling wine flight and the Rhône wine flight; swordfish; and tuna tartare tacos and bulgogi mushroom tacos (one of us had two appetizers as an entree). Each dish was thoughtfully presented and very tasty. The tuna tartare tacos were the standout hit, somehow retaining the taco shell's crisp texture despite being packed to the brim with delicately seasoned tartare. I've visited The Wine Kitchen On the Creek in Frederick, MD, twice. The first time was stellar, but the second visit, not so much. The restaurant, located on Carroll Creek in Downtown Frederick, allows patrons to enjoy the views of the Creek and people-watch the many passersby. There is a parking garage nearby, so parking is very accessible. The inside of the restaurant has a very cozy feel. The service is impeccable and all of the staff are friendly and helpful. Visit #1: While celebrating my husband's birthday, we had a wonderful time experiencing the incredibly delicious food! I loved every single thing I ordered and my husband did as well. We left the restaurant extremely happy and looked forward to visiting again. Visit #2: We returned to The Wine Kitchen to celebrate another occasion during Frederick's Restaurant Week. There was a special menu where patrons could select an appetizer/salad, entree and dessert. The food, for the most part, was still delicious. The chef was a little heavy-handed with the chili oil in the crab pasta dish, but overall, we had no complaints about the food. We also had no complaints with our waiter. He was very accommodating and pleasant. The issue we had was with the timing between each course. Taking approximately 40-45 minutes between the courses was excessive. The restaurant was full since it was a Saturday evening, but not overly crowded. We watched as patrons who were seated after us received their courses ordered off of the regular menu much faster. Our waiter could tell it took a long time for our food to come out and apologized profusely. It wasn't his fault at all, but we appreciated the gesture. Another staff member approached the table and apologized for the lengthy service, offering to comp our cocktails. Again, we truly appreciated the gesture and did not hold it against her. I'm unsure if that particular night was rough for the chef and his staff or if our orders were pushed to the back burner (no pun intended) because they thought they had more time to work on other requests, but I will not order from the Restaurant Week menu again. Service was painfully slow. Had a 230 lunch reservation, so no lunch rush. It took almost an hour for our food. Husband had to wait another 30 minutes just for the fries he originally ordered because they gave him the wrong side. All the drinks came at different times, and a few of us who asked for another drink didn't get it until after we were all done and moved on to dessert. Same with a simple order of ketchup, which didn't come until we were all done with our meals. Food was okay. Service and Ambience were an absolute 5 out of 5. The decor is upscale and this is a great place to impress - it's right on the creek if you want a view, too. The server was attentive and checked in with us often, but not too often that is annoying. She made sure my friend's steak was cooked to her liking , brought it back for more cook, and when she noticed she was slowly working her way through eating , she ensured she liked it again. She was patient as well- we had a slow poke in the group and came back at least three times to take our order. The food was good, but nothing I would order again. I had the beet salad (I'm obsessed with beets) and I did not see the purpose of the cocoa crumbs but the cheese fritters that accompanied it were melt-in-your mouth delicious. I also tried the Gorgonzola flatbread. It had a sweet bacon jam (I love salty sweet) and a good amount of arugula on top - I think more Gorgonzola was necessary - hard to taste it.
