One of my favorite places in Bend. Their food is incredible with great complexity and the wagyu melts in your mouth. Drinks and wine are fantastic, waiters/staff are always friendly and knowledgeable, and vibe is great. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Had an incredible dinner to celebrate a special occasion this evening. Sarah was incredible and created a classy, personalized, first class experience unlike any other dining experience in Bend. Thanks for the amazing food and for making BT the best restaurant in Bend!

Bos salad. The bits of pork belly was nice. The hard dried tomatoes were not good and vinegar in the blue cheese dressing was off putting.

Great service! So that gets 5 stars. But comfort level is low, quality of good did not meet expectations and prepare to spend a LOT of money. I ordered the $120 Bos A-5 steak sampling, the Bos wedge salad and a glass of wine. It was $180.00. Now that's fine and even expected but I was disappointed that there was gristle in the A5, the salad was overly vinegar'ed and the seating was not comfortable at the bar. But, service covers a multitude of sins, so I may try again - but not enthusiastically.

    Valentine's Day Negroni

If you're looking for a steak experience that borders on a religious experience, Bos Taurus is the place to be. My husband and I celebrated Valentine's Day here, and let's just say--it was love at first bite. We started with classic cocktails (because what's romance without a little old-school charm?) and fresh oysters that tasted like they were personally escorted from the ocean to our table. But the real star of the night? The A5 Wagyu tasting menu--a parade of rich, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth perfection, paired with their "experiences" (a fancy way of saying sauces and spices, but trust me, they are an experience). The restaurant is small and packed, but instead of feeling cramped, it had a buzzing, lively atmosphere--like you're at the coolest dinner party in town. We were also fascinated by the off-menu choices (a secret menu? Intriguing...), and next time, we're diving into those. Shoutout to our server, who was as friendly as they come, and our waiter, who patiently answered every one of our many, many steak-related questions. He might as well have a PhD in Wagyu. Final verdict: Bos Taurus is a must-visit for steak lovers and food adventurers alike. We came for the steak, stayed for the experience, and left already planning our next visit. Just be warned--you might fall in love, and not just with your date.

Excellent establishment. Top tier steak options and nothing to complain about. Looking for a date night out or some really good steak, this is your best choice in bend. Service was top notch. Explaining the details of each and every steak.

I was finally able to get a table with my best friend from the first grade. Our wives were back home and we decided to celebrate my "almost" birthday and the sale of his family business. My friend is a regular at Bos Taurus so I let him lead the way. We started with cocktails and later had the Hama Hama oysters followed by a Compressed Caesar for my friend and a Bos Wedge for myself. We also had a special treat called the Wagyu Tasting that had three one ounce portions of perfectly marbled beef accompanied by three pairing sauces. For our entrees I ordered the 8oz filet and my friend had the 16oz ribeye. We also shared the Yukon Gold Potato Puree and Sauteed Rapini & Spinach for our side dishes. A nice touch that they have at Bos Taurus is you get to select your choice of steak knives from around the world representing the U.S., France and Japan. Since we were celebrating we had a bottle of the Chateau Leoville Barton Saint-Julien 2008 to enjoy with our steak and sides. It was a dinner to remember. All of our selections were perfectly paced and the food was magnificent. Service was excellent and they have a full time sommelier to assist you with your wine selections. Cost for dinner for two people when you are celebrating 50 years of friendship? Priceless. Thank you for dinner my friend.

Had to try both A5 options side by side. Well worth it

Amazing service and food. The steak as always is amazing. We did the A5 options side by side to compare.

Small place. Good food, uses expensive ingredients. It's good to try once. The wagyu is fine. I wouldn't get the Foie gras mousse as a dessert next time.

Fried brussels sprouts 5/5 stars (so good)

Was able to visit with a walk-in for two. Service is definitely top notch here and very attentive. We ended up ordering the New York strip (medium rare) and the filet mignon. Both steaks came out at our requested temperature. For the sides, we ordered the fried brussels sprouts and whipped potatoes. The brussels sprouts were "out of this world" good but would pass on the mashed potatoes. They also had a very good wine selection.

Ask the Community - Bos Taurus

May we bring in a bottle of wine and if so what the bottle fee would be, please?

Yes, we have brought wine in a couple of times, I believe the corkage fee was $25.00

So, there a 2 oz minimum for the A5. That that mean I can actually just order 2 oz? Also, is everything served family style? My wife and I find family style easier to share versus eating off each other's plates?

Yes, you can order just the 2 oz. if you choose.

    Is there a dress code?

Nothing specific. Just keep in mind the price point of their menu and dress accordingly. I would not go in with shorts, flip-flops and a ratty blouse. But it's not like a tie and sport coat are necessary either.

Do you have any vegetarian options? As my party would be all meat eaters, and would still like to enjoy your food myself. 😎

Between the exceptionally good food at Hook and Plow, a most pleasant hotel experience, and a memorable trip to the High Desert Museum; our trip to Bend turned out to be a pleasure instead of the miserableness I expected. This was more than enough for the three of us and we left full, happy, and with three large to-go boxes. The flavors of the various dishes were amazing. We were greeted by the host and seated quickly. We started our meal with a delicious non-alcoholic drink and the Chef's Board: a charcuterie with an assortment of cured meats, rustic bread, and various spreads. That came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, our main courses came out much, much later and lukewarm. Luckily, the food was good enough that it made up for the temperature. I had the NY strip steak. The steak and the Boursin mashed potatoes alone were very good. The pickled onions and chimichurri complemented the meat very well. The meal was supposed to include brussel sprouts but came with a grilled broccoli cauliflower assortment instead. My wife had the Scallop Risotto which was also a great recommendation from the server. In reality, The Hook & Plow deserved 3 1/2 stars but that's not an option on Yelp. It may have been an off night for the staff, so I will give them the benefit of doubt. We would be open to trying it again sometime in the future.

So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

There were no check-ins at the table, a hostess walked around once filling everyone's water but that was it (so we had empty water for about half the time we were there), I had to flag down the bartender by staring at him from across the bar to get his attention for a check, once I got the check he again tried to immediately walk off even though I had the card & wallet on the table and nearly immediately put it in the book, and in general he was not amiable. I actually asked my friend after the first interaction of 'do you think he's having a bad day or hates it here?'. I found myself wishing other areas of the restaurant had been designed or decorated more intentionally to honor its soulful past. It wants to be a high class spot, but something about the interior design feels underwhelming. I enjoyed the drinks I tried although the menu seems a bit unimaginative. The energy was strange, maybe it was that night, but bar staff seemed to be a bit "altered" and on edge. One was wearing what may or may not have been an intentional cologne that smelled like the overpowering essence of hot rubber mixed with cigar smoke, and leather.
