Bartender was super friendly, I wish I could remember his name. We told him how we were looking for things to do and he was more than happy to write down some recommendations for us. I thought that was super nice because I feel like sometimes, at least in the Dells area, it seems like they get tired of us tourists and aren't always as friendly as I feel they should be considering they know they're working in a tourist area. We happened to be sitting next to the lady that does the tours so we thought, awesome, we love seeing old buildings and hearing the history so we signed up! It's $20 per person and about 50-60 mins. It was super cool to see, informative, the lady was friendly, and answered any questions we had. It was pretty amazing to hear that people actually live on the 4th floor, I wasn't expecting that for some reason. After the tour was over she played the large organ for us which was great. We sat down for another beer, listened to the awesome music the bartender was playing and set up our next tour at the Driftless Glen distillery. This was on our list plus it was one of the recommendations from the bartender. If your in the area and looking for something different to do, I highly recommend checking this place out!

The house was built between 1905-6 and must have looked like a warehouse compared to average sized houses of the period. The history of the home is pretty extraordinary...I don't want to give away spoilers. In short, there are 24 rooms, many of which are being renovated. The basement isn't part of the tour but I hope once they complete it, that it will be, as I'd come back to see that as well. If you're hungry or in the mood for a beer, the brewery attached to the back is a nice stop. I tried a couple of beers and enjoyed them both. The tour gives the answer as to why they built the brewery as well (sorry, no spoilers here either). The tour is cash only and on specific times, so be sure to check those before coming. Cheers.

Like our being there was an annoyance. At one point my daughter was so upset that she walked away from the group and cried. Hardly the response you want your daughter to have when planning her big day. It's a nice venue with a lot of possibilities. Just don't expect a lot of help from the venue manager. Maybe she was having a bad day. Maybe she was annoyed that we were late. I don't know. What I do know is that they are in the wedding business and that means the bride shouldn't end up in tears because she was treated poorly.

I struggled about whether to give Wintergreen a three or four star review after our latest visit…read more If you are looking for a summary of this hotel, it's a very inexpensive, mostly clean, but somewhat outdated hotel and mini water park that's good for very young children. We stayed at Wintergreen twice in the last year with our young (toddler-ish) child. She had a great time in the small outdoor waterpark both times (she thought the indoor water park was too loud, although it's similar in size and amenities to the outdoor park). There's a few small slides, a big slide we have never seen open, a hot tub, a splash pad, and three pools ranging in depth from 1 foot to 4 feet. The 1 foot pool is nicely set up for a young child, with shade and a couple small slides. The whole outdoor area is in need of some TLC, with lots of paint chipping, some uneven pavement, and other cosmetic blemishes, but the whole area, including the water, also seems clean. The rooms are very basic, with small bathrooms, older furniture and carpet, and just so/so beds, but again, everything seems clean. We appreciated having rooms we could park right next to (a few of the ground floor rooms are this way). There's a couple nicer common areas where you can eat and/or play board games, which helps when the rooms are fairly small. Our daughter had a great time both times we stayed here, and for a child age 4 and under, this is a great place to stay, but kids who are older than 4 will likely get bored very quickly. All in all, while I have definitely stayed in nicer hotels, Wintergreen is a fine place to stay for a night or two with a young child if your goal is to have a water park on site that's not crowded and kid friendly.
