Wizard's Chest is a cool , whimsical costume/game/ unique toy shop located in Denver. I had the pleasure of visiting this shop back in 2015 a few years ago before they moved to this location and it's nearly identical to their previous shop. On my most recent visit around Easter they were strong on their Covid compliance by limiting visitors and having us stand outside in a line. We had to then make sure we were answering their health questions before proceeding to shop. Once inside making sure we were all distanced. I was looking for very specific items and for the most part I found a few items. They have a gag gift section, a costume section, a small learning toy sensory section, as well as unique game board games , dungeons and dragons games , dice , role play figures, and lastly little trinket items upfront at the cash register area. The prices were reasonable and nobody shooed me to get on with my taking my time to look at every single item. I love visiting here and enjoy the varying shopping experience. read more

This store is so cool! It has the most unique painting and architecture and there is just SO much to look at. I got totally distracted looking at all the flapper girl costumes and I wasn't even there for costumes! I can only imagine what this place would look like through the eyes of a child! They have an incredible assortment of puzzles and board games downstairs. They also have a huge selection of models for painting, if that's your thing. We were there for Pokémon cards but they didn't have any. Actually the employee told us when they last got some in, they restricted it to one item per buyer and still sold out in under an hour, so probably if that's what you're coming here for I'd go somewhere else. Totally a big and small kids heaven. It's like a wizard wonderland with lots of fun things inside and a huge puzzle collection downstairs. You can find orcs and three degree wizards. You can find all sorts of games for kids here-both small and large. It's also very children friendly and can bring the family here. We've driven past here dozens of times and never given it a second look - other than "Wow... what an interesting building". Today, we went in and found ourselves immediately having a good time. The upstairs is filled with silly little toys like finger puppets, super-cool wigs (I tried on a couple) and pretty much every kind of costume you can imagine... including some really skimpy ones I want to get for Wonder Wife, although I'd never let anyone else see her in them. My wife was near by today and I asked her to stop by and pick up a few boxes of minis for me.I always am the one to get this type of stuff so my wife did not realize the condition the boxes were in. I asked her and she said that the boxes were out on a shelf and self serve. Well. All 3 boxes had been slightly opened so that someone could see what the large minis are. Nothing was missing but that means that all of the rares are gone and the chances of getting a really cool mini is gone.They need to get a tighter control on items like this. read more

They had strict mask and social distancing requirements, so I felt safe shopping here. I picked up two Ravensburger jigsaw puzzles and their selection was pretty good compared to what I had seen online. Some board game shops are a little dusty and dingy - not Wizard's Chest, which is styled around a dramatic two-story castle theme. You can spend at least an hour shopping for trinkets, costumes, games, models, books and more. REPLAYABILITY: 10/10 Visiting Wizard's Chest simply doesn't get old. I frequently see games stocked there that I've never seen at other stores, and the recent addition of a consignment shelf in the back adds new, old and eclectic games to the mix. PLAYER INTERACTIONS: 10/10 The staff are delightfully knowledgeable in the way that only serious board gamers can be. One of the hardest parts about buying an expensive new game is not knowing if you'll like it or not, so it's nice to be able to talk engine building, resource management and asymmetric strategy with folks who have played the game in question. Found the Star Wars stuff I needed in a quickness here when most other locations had sold out of the storm trooper accessories I was needing to complete my Halloween look! I called in and asked if they had storm trooper leggings, they did. I then asked them to put them on hold for me, they did! Ah! So The Wizard's Chest is now on Broadway and no longer in Cherry Creek?! Something I did not know until we were walking along Broadway and discovered this. The Wizard's Chest has always been great and continues to remain to be so at this location on Broadway. There are still a ton of costumes, games, toys, gag gifts and other fun knick knacks inside that you can enjoy. In my opinion Wizard's Chest seems easier to get to now than when it was in Cherry Creek. Parking always seemed so complicated there and it seemed. Of course I bought something here. How could I not? I got plush stuffed "animals" of a virus and and a ton of marbles. Some of which to keep in a slowly growing collection and some to be hidden in my local community here in Tacoma where we hide painted rocks and marbles for others to find and enjoy through finding, hiding or keeping! Instead of being like Johnathan and giving the shop 2 stars because I disagree with a logical and health related policy that isn't even a policy but a request I'm going to give this establishment a fair review. Every employee was insightful, knowledgeable and extremely helpful and approached me a few times to ensure I was taken care of. The interior design is absolutely magical and the murals scattered about are incredible. The upstairs is a toy store/costume store and the downstairs is a game store/escape room and has an area for playing games(either TTRPGs or board/card games. A fun costume, board game, and novelty shop that's reasonably priced for a good amount of their inventory. The top floor is definitely where you will spend most of your time. I like that you can actually try on the wigs, as long as a sales associate is there to assist you. You can also buy some high quality ben nye makeup which i think is awesome. There's even a in house magician that does card tricks (dont know if he's there every day). Downstairs, they have some seriously nerdy boardgames like Power grid and Warhammer 40,000 stuff. Little ones must go nuts for this place, I'm sure, but I'm pretty obsessed and there are no small children in my Denver life. Being in the event planning business means you'll be involved in a theme party or two (or dozens), and The Wizard's Chest has all the costumes, wigs, accessories, etc. that you could ever need. I recently had a burlesque party and stopped by for extra feathery headpieces, gloves, boas, faux cigarette holders, and candy cigarettes. I gotta give it up for The Wizard's Chest who has saved my ass in several costume crises. Most recently for a little festival called Oktoberfest. Yelp has a booth there and it turns out anyone working at Oktoberfest should be "festively dressed." Now I have a whole closet full of costumes, but funnily enough I've never found myself in need of one for beer wench. Until now. Two hours before the show starts I dash into Wizard's Chest to be told by a helpful employee they have a whole wall dedicated to Oktoberfest outfits. And it's true - you can get the short, scandalous froofy dresses, something that intern Kim I likes to call "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" dress, or even the guys long shorts and suspenders get up. I picked one up for about $50 and I have to say it's pretty high quality so worth the price I paid. Thanks to The Wizard's Chest for always being there for me in my time of dress-up need. My friend and I have driven by this place and done the double-take a few times but finally decided to go in today. She was looking for some stuff for an ensemble for a festival. The Wizard's Chest was perfect! There were so many different options for accessories. The staff were super friendly and very knowledgeable as well. They embrace your inner geek, so it's fun for adults and kids too. Love the new location (they moved out of Cherry Creek about 5 years ago, so it's not that new, I guess).
