Used to be excited coming. Not anymore. The past few times over about two months they re arrange things in a way that is still organized in itself but didn't help in any case. On top of this I was coming back to buy more Trek Badges. They never stocked up. Ended up buying somewhere else for a better price too. They never did til maybe now cause of comic con. I went today to hopefully buy a reusable bottle that was there last week. I understand pulling things for Comic Con but there were only about 4 bottles. They tell me they probably took them to comic con and that's why they don't have anymore. Just like Trek mighty wallets. Had em before. Now just not stocked. Very disappointing when you come back at least once or twice a month hoping the restock but idk Has been very disappointing this summer. I will most likely not stop on as often. After the woman tried to help me at the register looking for this item she told me things got moved around. I told her it's moved around quite a bit in the last few month so just when I get used to the order it gets changed again. I don't fall for the retail runarounds. And to be told as if I didn't know any better, that when new stock comes in the stock it out there for display. I'm not dumb. Obviously. My point is the layout has changed a bit so quickly in months more than once and that makes it confusing at first but it's no big deal. Very disappointing this year read more

This place is great! It's got a real fun atmosphere. Stepping into it off of Broadway feels like stepping into Diagonal Alley. You're immediately greeted with a colorful and bountiful costume. If you go downstairs you can find all your tabletop game needs. I came here specifically for miniature paints. They carry both the Vallejo and Games Workshop line of paints. They also carry a selection of different colored primers which is pretty neat. The employees are super helpful and friendly. Also, they do appear to have parking right next to the store so don't worry about street parking. read more

Neat store with a lot of character and cool stuff. However, the prices are way too high. If there wasn't a manufacture's price printed directly onto the packaging, it was marked up. some items were marked up nearly 50% above retail. I love shopping locally, but it's hard to justify paying such extreme prices to do so. Save a few bucks and shop somewhere else. read more

Oh the wizards chest, how I avoided thee only to discover how awesome your contents are. This place is geared towards (board) gamers but is clearly welcoming to all. The bottom floor is where we spend most of our time, awing over the endless selection of board games. Think monopoly and sorry are the only games out there? Well, you haven't been here! This is an amazing store in Denver. There is something for everyone here. The basement floor is all games. The top floor has costumes and a little bit of everything. A lot of the items on the top floor are easily found in other nearby stores so I walked out empty handed. Would definitely return. So creative and fun year round! read more

I took my family here and the experience was hurt by the conduct of the employees. I sent a message to them and never received a response, so I won't feel bad about posting my message here on Yelp: "Brought my kids to your shop for the first time yesterday. We were downstairs just after 5pm and I had to hurry my son along after walking up on 5 or 6 foul mouth employees cursing about who has "worked here" longer. Ridiculous conduct and extremely disappointing experience given the family nature of the store and the board game community." I'm no prude but it was a lot like taking my kid to a casino or card room. Absolutely ridiculous and sending them a message directly went ignored, so be forewarned, they don't give a damn. read more

I called ahead to check availability in their wigs. I expressed that I understand that there is NO guarantee the wig will still be in stock, but if I am driving 45 mins to their shop (INSTEAD OF GOING TO PARTY CITY/HOT TOPIC/SPIRIT HALLOWEEN) I just wanted to know if they are at least in stock at this moment. They refused to check. They refused to tell me if there were any left at all. They refused to check to see if they were sold out or not. I was told "everyone is using the computers for the customers in our store" I was told that I can come in and if its sold out, then they will help finding something else. So.....potential customers do not matter? As someone that worked in a retail costume shop for 6+ years during Halloween, this is absolute TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!! I also understand that it is the day before Halloween and it is probably busy. To not provide customer service because I am not standing in front of them is a crap way to run a business! read more

I am in the entertainment biz in Denver. This is one of the two best shops in town to buy theatrical make up, wigs, and costume items. If you are looking for games and novelty items items, this should be a first stop. It is always a fun place to kill some time. Costume and make up items are not returnable fyi, so choose carefully. I am not sure about the other genres of items. Also don't park in the art store parking lot they are not affiliated and will tow you. At least that is what the signs say. read more

Fun place! I was visiting Denver and wanted to see the gaming scene, heard this was a good store to check out. The first floor is magic tricks and costumes, which was unexpected but very impressive and complete. Downstairs was the board game area, plus a room for a designated play space. Their games selection was solid, and included some new titles as well as several games I already enjoy. The whole store was clean and well-organized, with plenty of staff on hand to help. My son just attended a Pokemon TCG event at The Wizard's Chest and I could not have been more impressed. So frequently kids are either ignored by adults or spoken down to. The employees at The Wizard's Chest treated each with respect. So refreshing! As I was waiting, I heard another employee teaching someone how to play Magic. Super awesome spot for last minute costume pieces! As most of the reviews have already indicated, they have everything one might need for a themed outfit or cosplay outing - and they're not a Halloween pop up. No way, this is year-round entertainment. I was looking for a plastic crown and one of the gentlemen who works at The Chest helped me find exactly what I needed - and it only cost $5. It would've been double if I'd ordered on Amazon and taken at least 2-3 business days to ship. Just goes to show that shopping local pays off! read more

What an amazing find!! On our way to dinner one night - we noticed a very whimsical looking store front and decided to check it out. WOW - if we hadn't been starving - we definitely could've have spent HOURS in this store. For starters, it is HUGE with two full floors of toys, costumes, games, and NOSTALGIA galore! For the inner nerd - I spied a room downstairs that looked like where MTG might take place hahah. I couldn't believe the inventory of costumes and accessories the store had available. This place must be PACKED before Halloween! Are you a POP doll collector? They had a shelves and shelves of them - fun to browse! The downstairs is packed full of every board game imaginable for kids and adults of all ages. The MTG area I mentioned had a shelf dedicated to just DICE - so much DICE. I picked up a few stocking stuffers including Sanrio stationary sets, a couple TROLLS PEZ dispensers, and a few squishy toys for toddlers. I seriously wanted so many things in there - I'm glad we sort of were crunched for time. If you are in the area and looking for a fun place to check it - look no further than the Wizard's Closet. I have literally been shopping at the wizards chest since I was a BABY. I learned my first magic tricks here, and is my go-to shop for costumes, stage makeup, and more recently games. my partner has been teaching me Magic: The Gathering and this is a GREAT spot for gaming accessories and booster packs. I wish they had a bigger selection of MTG singles, but it doesn't matter because their staff is so kind and knowledgeable. This could go on and on, but you get the point. At The Wizard's Chest you can proudly fly your geek flag. Costumes, games, action figures, masks, and other gag gifts are in great supply. The costumes are ther year round, so don't feel like you are limited to just Halloween. I am not much of a gamer; however, I know that there are many card/board games that exist. Wizard's Chest has a large selection of board games and card games. For the Star Wars, Star Trek, and Super Hero fans out there, there is a good selection. I love this place. I took my son to look for Wizard "stuff", and no wonder he wants to be a Wizard - wizards are cool. I want to be a Wizard too! Although, the young man who kept touching me as he explained the costumes weren't just for halloween (wink wink). Dude, slow down. Back on track. They had a guy doing magic tricks downstairs and explaining anything and everything about trick-mastery to the kids (or anyone that would listen). We could have stayed here all day. There was something weird going on with 2 tables of grown ass men on the first level. It looked like they were playing cards, but not. Mistakenly, my son asked one of them to explain what one of the toys did, and he impolitely explained that he didn't work there. This is when I realized how many of these guys were just hanging out...in the toy store...doing whatever the hell they were doing...on a saturday afternoon. And the parking...one more reason to be disgruntled in cherry creek. A teeny tiny lot in the back - don't ever think you might get a spot there. I had Bridget help me today. A return of Hermione Granger wand that was broken a day after Christmas. It was a Santa gift. She helped me get a new one and talked to me about wand care. I brought it home and told my daughter that I did a spell to fix it. She had this look you rarely see from a seven year old daughter that thinks dad is magical. That's what Christmas is all about. At first glance, a castle-shaped facade in Cherry Creek North called The Wizards Chest looks so out of place, one might mistakenly think it an upscale gentleman's club, or perhaps a clever construction barrier for a shop about to peddle overpriced Italian footwear. Far from it - inside is a magical world for, as they say, for kids from 1 to 92. I've never seen the likes of it. The upstairs consists of all sorts of costumes and fancy getups, applicable mostly for Halloween (and those mystery balls where you dress up like Zorro, only to reveal yourself at midnight to the buxom Lady Antoinette - just like in a spy movie). But the real action is downstairs. Games - real games, games you can play with people, games you've never heard of before - games that require humans to interact in imaginative and/or intellectual ways. Kid to kid, adult vs. adult, the whole gamut. Sure, there are some D&D types in the clientele, totally expected, but they're quarantined in the back left corner ;-) Tired of Risk, Trivial Pursuit and that ilk? The staff is friendly and helpful, and is more than glad to help you pick out a killer new game you've never heard of that's 10x better. Plus, on select nights, people get to hang out and play some of the games, so you can try before you buy (many of the best games aren't exactly cheap, and yes - they have to pay the rent in Cherry Creek). Plus parlor tricks, games to bend the mind, and puzzles galore. The closest thing to Weasleys Joke Shop this side of an overpriced theme park. If your tastes run down to a small plastic dinosaur for Junior to slobber on, or the good ole hand buzzer, well there's that too. Stretch your imagination, re-establish the fun of sitting down with friends at a dining room table for a few hours and laughing like kids, or with kids.
