My first time to the woodsman the waitress spilled water on my girlfriend and brought us the wrong order. I initially asked for a fish dish and our waitress responded, "she only sells that to asians." The second time the smoke alarm went off and the food was edible at best. The flavour profile of the pad thai was mostly sour, maybe they used too much tamarind paste and it seemed like they used ketchup in their sauce. I ordered the dish spicy, it wasn't. The service is worse than what you might see in a mcdonalds or applebees. One waitress seemed like dead weight not taking any orders or cashing out any customers at the bar. Food sat in the window for 11:32 min/sec, timed on my phone. The one star is mandatory, so I suppose that goes for making the effort of trying to run a restaurant with +/- 100 menu items. The Woodsman is an interesting place. It has the feel of an old lumber mill, with an all expansive menu. There are two menus, one containing traditional american fare (burgers, steak, etc.). However, the main attraction is the Thai menu. The menu is fairly disorganized, with an odd collection of printed and hand-written material, in no apparent order. However, the food is fantastic. The Pad Thai with Beef is great. The portions are huge. Two of us were able to get two meals out of one order. The hot sauces are also great. The chili peppers in oil are to die for. If you are in the Philomath area, there is no better food than at the Woodsman. read more

I've had a lot of Thai food - REAL , GOOD Thai food. Woodsman is not either. Yellow curry was ok. Teriyaki was obviously canned and way too salty. Pad thai was more like peanut flavored spaghetti. Thai basil dish had almost no basil and tons of salt. Even the Thai iced tea was wrong. They weren't busy but waitress was frazzled. read more

I was in Philomath Saturday helping a friend pack, and she offered to take me out for lunch to The Woodsman. Anyone who knows Philomath knows The Woodsman is the best place in town! I have to admit, I am a bit overwhelmed with the amount of food choices on the menu; on the Thai side, you have 58 items to choose from, not including the dessert menu, and on the American side, you have another 58 choices! My friend ordered the special that day ~ stuffed chicken wings, and I ordered the Thai Cashew Nut with tofu. I was impressed with the portion sizes! The chicken wings my friend ordered looked more like large drum sticks ~ I'm not sure what they were stuffed with, but they looked Really good ...and she had no complaints! My cashew nut was pretty good; I didn't care much for the texture of the tofu, but all in all, it was good and the portion was Huge! We were told about the Woodsman serving Thai food, so we decided to go for lunch. The place is more like a quaint tavern, and has a good selection of burgers, and such, but we were there to experience their Thai food. We ordered Pad See Ew, and Drunken Noodles. When our dishes were delivered, we were amazed at the quantity of these dishes. Clearly we should have shared, and we will next time. The Pad See Ew had a lot of gravy/sauce, so that was new to me. But like I always say, it's the interpretation of the chef on how each dish is made. The Drunken Noodles were good, and not nearly as soupy as the other dish. We will return. read more

We ate there again tonight and it was excellent. We both had the appetizer platter. Everything was great. Nothing was too spicy, but if you want it hot their chili oil is smokin. They give you a lot of food. 1 order of Pad Thai feeds both my girlfriend and I for at least 2 meals. Coconut ice cream is delicious. we ordered 2 ice creams to go and there was about a pint in each. We have gone several times over the last few years and has always been great. I would rate the American food as average. Had really good Thai food and very good service tonight. This place is such an anomaly for Philomath. Loses one star for atmosphere, splintery chopsticks, and wobbly tables. Ordered the Tom Kah soup which was excellent. We also ordered the pad see eew. It was really flavorful, but there was something wrong with the noodles. Most of them were broken little chunks. There were some good wide ones but usually they were spooning with another noodle or two. So you ended up with these wide noodle bundles. I would still give it 4 stars because I have had the same dish there before and didn't have that issue. read more

I absolutely love Thai food and this was hands down the best Thai place I have ever been to. The portions are huge but still very reasonably priced. Surprisingly good thai food for a quirky bar.

I eat here when I want drunken noodles. Very good value for the price and well made. I order the extra vegetable with tofu, as tofu absorbs the sauces used so well. Those sauces are a treat. Service consistently excellent. Quieter family place. Lotsa variety on the menu--easy to feed the kids and please the adults. read more

Ate an excellent Thai dinner for four here. The spicy pork ribs with green beans was our favorite dish. We also thoroughly enjoyed the drunken noodles. We asked for the green curry to be spicy, and it certainly was! I only gave four stars because everything took a really long time, from getting our food, to getting the check, and paying for the meal as well. The waitress was very sweet though, and even comped an order of spring rolls for our long wait. Kooky atmosphere, but really just adds to the charm of the restaurant. read more

based on the Yelp reviews, I decided to have lunch at the Woodsman on the outskirts of Philomath. They purport to be a Thai restaurant and although they have an extensive menu, the dishes i tried were mediocre, at best....Their stir fried green beans were swimming in what tasted like beef broth from a can with a few spices in it.....and a flavor that I have to say, was uniquely unrecognizable. the crispy tofu was extremely rubbery I also had the Spinach Palam and this dish featured spinach drenched in coconut milk and curry...delicious fresh spinach, ruined by a bath of sauce...the few pieces of salmon i ordered to go along with this dish were completely masked by the overly rich flavor of the sauces. There was literally a pool of sauce in the trough of the very large plate that supported the food.. I was so disappointed. i love Asian cuisine, having experienced very good samplings in New York City, San Francisco and Seattle. i will give this place another try at one point, but i will steer away from these dishes and maybe now, ask a few more questions about how the food is prepared and served read more

Lots of choices, maybe too many. Can be excellent but biggest complaint is inconsistency. Last week the pumpkin curry dish was too weird to enjoy but other dishes were fine but unremarkable. No. Just....no. The food was disgusting and the service was horrible. Waitress was friendly enough, but she informed us right off the bat she would 'do her best', but it would probably be slow going getting our food and drinks. As I look around and see it's really not that busy I really couldn't grasp why she would say that, but she wasn't kidding. It took forever. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and took maybe 3 bites. It tasted like lysol, seriously. Massive portion of grossness. Way too pricey for the quality of food. I'm told the thai is pretty good so maybe that was my mistake not ordering thai, but it was so bad I won't be giving them the benefit of the doubt and trying this place again. What an eclectic mix. The Woodsman has excellent Thai food - there are so many menu options that it took a while to figure out what I wanted. The décor was a mix of the Thai culture as well as the local historical photos of the logging town and antique logging tools. The portions are so large that I had to take half home in a box. Average at best Thai food, that gets hyped up in Corvallis as being fantastic. Sure it's a strange ambiance, but not strange enough to make up for the way too big menu, and enormous quality variety in dishes. The portion sizes are MASSIVE! My husband and I ordered pad thai to go and it literally was piled to the brim of the container. We've made 2 meals out of it with both of us eating and there is still leftovers. The sauce on the pad thai was not what I expected and initially I wasnt too convinced but I do think it was better with re-heating. The salad roll appetizers were very good. The vegi pot stickers were so so. Overall, I thought the food was decent and would have rated a 4 star except service was iffy. We came in about an hour before close to place an order and were left standing awkwardly at the bar for a VERY long time. When we approached someone in uniform, they said they had punched out and we would be helped by the other girl who ignored us for quite a while. I would have been more understanding if we had at least been acknowledged. So overall, I might go back but I wouldnt go out of my way for it. read more

Stopped by the Woodsman on a busy Saturday evening, the server was doing a good job in a busy situation. The food was slow coming out of the kitchen, lots of to-go orders going out the door. I had higher expectations for the food given the reviews I had read. I had the stir fried cashews dish, it was really heavy on whatever sauce was used on the dish, so much so that what I thought would be fresh vegetables were absolutely smothered in the stuff, just a little too much of a good thing. One of the strong points were the drinks, mixed well and not watered down. We will go back but will explore different parts of the very large menu. The interior of the restaurant needs little higher level of upkeep, don't look up into the round hanging fixtures, spider webs, and nasty looking spots on the paint. It wouldn't take much to make the interior more acceptable , also the traffic in and out of the gambling room was a little distracting. read more
