The yellow curry was watery, and the mixed seafood (that I paid extra for) was pretty much non existent. Took forever too .. they won't earn much business if this is what customers will experience. This restaurant has just shot to the top of my list of favorite restaurants in the Corvallis area. The crispy basil chicken was outstanding...great flavor and texture, with lovely crisp green beans. The owner is delightful. She stopped by our table to ask how our meal was. When we informed her that it was our first time there, she brought out a large sampling dessert plate of her homemade coconut ice cream and purple rice pudding. Both were delicious, but the coconut ice cream (with chunks of coconut) was divine. The menu was very extensive, and had both American and Thai items. I was particularly impressed at the selection of local Philomath area wine on the wine list; very reasonable by-the-glass prices. Portion sizes were large, prices were reasonable, and the spiciness level matched what the menu had indicated. Service was good and also quick. We will definitely be back! read more

I'm not sure what you could want more in a great Thai restaurant. The food was amazing and the service was fine. Pad Thai is always the test dish. It was fresh and had that perfect balance of sweet, salty, and savory. The veggies were crisp so you also had a nice balance of textures. We also got the yellow curry with beef. Really well done as well. The curry had a heat that sneaked up on you and was just sweet enough, but not too sweet, as so many currys can be. We had so much Pad Thai that the curry is today's lunch! you. The potstickers for our appetizer were equally great. Freshly made and they stradled that fine line between chewy and tender. Yum! One of the best kept secrets in Philomath. Great food, interesting decor. Good beers on tap, all in all a good place to visit. A few of our favs: Basil Chicken is great, spicy and hot...love it! Drunken noodle, I'd never had this before and was not dissapointed, spicy and delicious. Sri-ra-cha, sweet and spicy and oh, so good. If you're a desert kind of person, or even if you're not, you've got to try their homemade coconut ice cream, sometimes they serve it with mangoes, but by itself it's a special treat. I feel like Yelp led us astray on this one. A four star rating? Some of the best Thai food you've ever had? We did enjoy the salad rolls, but that's it. My Pad See Ew was drowning in what tasted like a sweet bottled stir fry sauce. The fried tofu, normally one of my favorite parts, tasted like a grease sponge. Vegetables were overpowered and the noodles were over cooked to the point that they were mostly small bits. My husband's drunken noodles were not at all spicy and, again, were drowning in a sticky sweet sauce with a really awful aftertaste. I tried one bite of his and apologized to him that he had something so bad. We both ate about five bites of the massive portion of food. When asked about a container we said yes to be polite, but the food went straight into the compost once we got home. The next stop was the bathroom. We had thought we ordered the lunch special version of these meals, but when presented with the bill saw that we were charged the full dinner prices. After tip (the waitress was very friendly), we paid nearly $35 for the worst meal I've ever been served in a restaurant. read more

I would NOT recommend this place. I remember going when I was younger and had a great dining and food experience. I went back recently and everything had changed. My party and one other family were the only people in the restaurant at 12 on a Sunday afternoon. They ran out of iced tea and were out of many appetizers. I know they serve Thai food, but they also serve burgers, sandwiches, and some other American appetizers. I ordered a chicken tender sandwich with cheese and no tomatoes. It came with no cheese and tomato. My chicken strips were burnt and had no flavor. The service was terrible, the ambience was cold and dark, and the food was awful. I will not return. read more

I had a bad experience on a take out order where the service was horrid. I paid the bill with cash and the guy put my money in the tip jar and made change out of the tip jar. Doesn't seem like that was on the up an up. The food was good, but a "I'll be right with you," would go along way to improving the service. Had my first beer in Philomath here. Love this old biker bar turned random secret Thai food place along HWY 20 to the coast. We always stop and get dinner here when the opportunity arises. This restaurant came highly recommended to me so my wife and I biked 6 miles from Corvallis to try it out for a fun date. We had high hopes but sadly it fell short of our expectations. The service was fine but the food tasted unlike any other Thai food we'd had before. The pot stickers weren't too bad. The pad Thai dishes were HUGE, which might not be a bad thing but if we had known that the lunch size would feed 3 people we wouldn't have ordered two plates. The sauce they used didn't taste like pad Thai should, it was more of a bbq flavor or something odd...all in all we spent $26 during the lunch hour for way more food than we could eat (again, great news if it's delicious!) and we ended up having to toss it because neither of us were into it. I tried the Woodsman the other night. I don't care for the decor and old saloon look. The waitress was nice, and the locals were a bunch of hams. I had of course the fish and chips. Since my initial review we've been to the Woodsman several times and it just keeps getting better and better. Each time we've had the same waitress, her name is Megan but spelled more uniquely (I just can't remember). She's really the only person working both rooms and I don't know how she manages it sometimes. Sometimes it is a tiny bit of a wait but this girl clearly works her butt off as the only server/bartender/hostess there, and she does a great job. We just recently had the papaya salad and it was SO good!! The yellow curry, green curry, dumplings, jack fruit curry, spicy basil, all so good! When the Woodsman first started serving Thai food many years ago, it was good: crisp, fresh vegetables, balanced authentic sauces and an astonishing menu. Now, it seems like no care goes into preparing anything. Overcooked -- precooked -- vegetables, including huge chunks of potato (huh?) and what seem like canned sauces dumped on everything. The portions are ridiculously large and the service is slow because there are usually only one or two waitpersons. I ordered the spinach palam and it consisted of the equivalent of a bag of large uncooked spinach leaves drowning in peanut sauce. With only toothpick-like chopsticks and a fork, eating this was a challenge. Take it from whence it comes when reviewers say the Woodsman's food is the "best Thai food in the Corvallis-Philomath area." The "Corvallis-Philomath area" is hardly a culinary paradise. read more

This is a shocker! While most small towns in America have their favorite greasy spoon, Philomath's Woodsman Tavern is a surprise with a twist. The lumberman ambiance will fool you, because the owner and chef are expert Thai cooks. Besides having the usual USA stuff, their huge Thai choices are not only fabulous, they are varied.
