I'm a bagel snob so I always have high expectations. This didn't meet them but still great option to have in the 518. The everything seasoning was mostly poppy and salt and there was barely any cream cheese on the bagel. It costed me $4.85. The bagels are also a little bigger than a mini bagel. I'm torn with my review. I would give this a 3.5 but alas that's not a choice. First, the menu has lots of delicious sounding dishes, which is a huge plus. I ordered a Cape Cod chicken salad sandwich. The chunks of chicken were very large and kept falling out of the sandwich. I opened it up and tried to break the pieces up a bit so I could spread the filling around the bread better. My plastic fork actually broke in half trying to do this . I did manage to rearrange the filling and spread out more which helped it stay in the bread. The flavor of the chicken salad was good. I really liked the addition of sweet potatoes - and that was why I ordered it because I wanted to see what that would be like. The bread itself is tasty. But.... very hard to bite through the crust. My friend and I both ended up pulling the crust off our sandwiches so we could actually bite into them. She had a panini and same problem. Having to remove the crust to be able to actually bite into the sandwiches was annoying, and a waste. So that is my struggle. I liked the place, I liked the menu options, but i paid about $10 for a sandwich that was hard to eat. I don't think I'll order a sandwich again. Maybe I'll stick with a bagel next time. read more

If you're in the mood for a tasty lunch or breakfast then search no longer. The Works is the place. When I walked in I was struck by the clean and cheerful interior. The menu is posted and is clear and easy to read. Everything is laid out beautifully. The staff was incredibly friendly despite them being busy. The menu is vast and has something for everyone. There are vegetarian options as well as gluten free. I had the smoked salmon bowl and the flavors went together nicely. The standout would be the tomato pesto which was phenomenal! I honestly could have eaten an entire bowl of it. My very picky 12 year old devoured his bagel. It looked like buttery perfection. Based on his comments while eating it was a huge hit. My friend and I stopped here on a whin. I said hey why not me try the new bagel place for lunch. It looked like another popular lunch spot that has salads, soups and sandwiches as we walked in. Prices are good. I ordered a chicken sandwich panini, called the super. The chicken was too thick, rather have it thin pieces to bite into and my friend had the sane sandwich and said the same. As you bit into it the sandwich fell apart. I ordered a jalapeño bagel to toast and eat at home, which I did and it was OK. I'm so glad this place is here!! So far I have enjoyed everything I've tried. This will be a very convenient place to stop for breakfast or lunch on work days! On our first trip we tried a few of their sandwiches hot and cold, soup and a maple walnut packaged brownie. All were good and made from quality ingredients. The chicken noodle soup was very mild with a thin broth but also filled with quality chicken, noodles and carrots. I much prefer that to something with fillers, msg and too much salt. All the sandwiches had fresh, crispy bread My Cape Cod Chicken was again not overly salty with subtle flavors and sweet potatoes. My son's panini had plenty of melty cheese and smoky bacon. The brownie while plastic wrapped still tasted fresh. The next time I went was in the morning so I could try the bagels. A big thumbs up for them!!! They have a nice crusty exterior and just enough chew. The flavor is just right. The dough is sweet enough to support the traditional cream cheese, lox and capers sandwich I ordered. It also has red onion and lettuce. The lox on the sandwich were generous and I could definitely taste the salmon flavor. I brought home 1/2 a dozen including salt, everything and sesame and some of their Vermont cream cheese too. I'm not the biggest cream cheese lover but I loved this cheese! I also had a yogurt parfait with granola, blueberries and raspberries. It was nice and creamy and not overly sweet. Most importantly I had coffee! I wasn't disappointed in the coffee. It's self serve so I mixed half house roast with dark roast. It had a deep caramel flavor. No sugar needed! So good to have another coffee place near work!!! I have come here a couple times (2 being b2b and the other being early 2023. My early 2023 visit was pretty good with my blended coffee being delicious. However, my last 2 visits (today and yesterday) left me wondering what happened. I ordered a mocha latte and it was extremely watery and tasted of nothing. Today, I ordered the Turkey and Avocado sandwich and it was not toasted and dripping with mayo. The bread crumbled as I was taking a bite. For nearly $11 for a sandwich I was wishful for some kind of side and a decent sandwich. Not sure what changed over the course of a year but in combination with the lack of personnel being helpful and subpar items I am not sure I would return. I will say that the ingredients on the sandwich were fresh but couldn't make up for the experience that was had. Their coffee isn't freshly made, and they have very limited espresso or other coffee drinks (my wife ordered an Iced Latte and their employee made a comment about how she didn't even know what that was - luckily another employee was able to make it for her). I didn't enjoy the flavor of the house blend coffee from the pot they have set out to get your own. The bacon, egg, and cheese bagel was pretty good. I ordered the Western wrap. It's decent for a light breakfast. I will come back to try the smoothies and lunch paninis, which it seems like may be their primary fare. I was happily surprised to find The Works newly opened by my hotel in Latham. The location is really nice - and there's plenty of parking in the plaza with a nice assortment of other stores. I tried to go in on a Thursday evening but they were closed for a tasting event. I had no idea they held tasting events - wonder how those work. I left disappointed but knew I'd be back soon as their ancient grain power bowl has become my favorite meal. I went back Friday and it was very quiet. I ordered the smoked salmon ancient grain bowl and a turkey avocado bacon sandwich on sour dough bread. The bowl was great - it's very plentiful and has a nice amount of quinoa (love the sprouts). The sandwich was pretty good. I'm not convinced it was on real sour dough as it wasn't very strong and that worried me a bit as I'm not supposed to eat white bread and I have to trust places when they say things are made as described on the menu. I only had about a quarter of the sandwich as I was worried upon first bite. Luckily, even half the grain bowl and a quarter of the sandwich is very filling. Stopped in after my wife told me there's another bagel place in the area. I stopped after work and got an everything bagel with salmon cream cheese. The bagel was light in color but still had some crunch on the outside. It did have everything seasoning on both sides of the bagel which was good. I didn't see any dark, extra crunchy bagels in the bin. It seems like the only place with balls to make dark bagels is Price Chopper. Dark and crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside - that's how a bagel should be and then you don't have to toast it. I asked for the bagel to be toasted since it was so light in color. One pass and only the very edge on parts of the bagel showed signs of toasting. It needs two or maybe three passes through - or maybe they should turn up the toaster. They didn't put a lot of cream cheese on the bagel. There was hardly any salmon in the salmon cream cheese. It was barely pink. I even tried just the cream cheese without the bagel and couldn't taste any salmon. The cream cheese was very tasty though. I just wish I could've tasted salmon. All in all an okay bagel but nothing that I would go out of my way to get. I might try again in the morning to see if the bagels are better right out of the oven but I don't think it'll be anytime soon. I'd go with plain cream cheese since I don't think it's worth it to pay extra for the specialty cream cheeses. read more

The food is your standard not-healthy sandwiches trying to pretend they are "healthy," and completely unremarkable. They were selling bottles of beverages that were un-open-able and they did nothing to rectify the situation. I wound up grabbing a coffee cup in the beverage self-serve area and getting some ice water to choke down my sandwich with. When I brought it to the attention of the person at the counter, they looked completely befuddled and said nothing. I just told them I lost the money for the beverage and not to sell it to anyone else and I left. I know restaurants can't afford to be very picky about who they hire these days, but, this was so easily dealt with and everyone just stood there. Maybe the people working there aren't inherently clueless, maybe it's just terrible training. Regardless, it doesn't say anything good about a self-service restaurant noteworthy for its bad service. Given that there are 50,000 sandwich shops (many even locally owned), you can easily avoid this less-than-adequate chain restaurant. Oh, and as I worked my way through the sandwich I got a nasty surprise--the bacon was loaded up with sugar!!! A near perfect smoky, savory food and it they decided to ruin it with sugar. Needless to say, I threw the rest of the sandwich out as the rest of the otherwise savory food in the sandwich was contaminated by the contact with the sugar. Ugh.
