Kudos to The Works staff for being so swamped with customers on Homecoming evening yet still giving great service. I was in a large group of bike riders today that stopped for dinner after riding the Loveland trail. Staff got our group seated and fed in a timely manner and we appreciated it greatly even if we couldn't all sit together. Our server Greg was great. Very nice and attentive. My table of 4 all enjoyed our food. I got a small Margherita pizza and it was FANTASTIC. Fresh tomato and basil gave flavor in every bite. The crust was perfection I will definitely order that again. Hubs got a steak hoagie. Said it was good but he was eyeballing our friend's Mahi sandwiches which looked grilled to perfection. They loved it. If I could offer one suggestion though to staff, there was quite a lot of cob webs on the window inside and outside our table. We sat at the first table to the left of the doorway going into the main dining room. And there was quite a bit of dust on the light chain in the bathroom and very smeared mirrors. The paper towel dispenser was not working either but the toilet was clean! In the mens bathroom the soap dispenser was not working, it was sitting on the counter and you had to pour the soap into your hand.

They have an actual train car you can eat in which is so cool. We were seated in the main dining room which had plenty of space and views of the TVs at the bar. The pizza menu was large and so was the beer list. We were all able to find something to enjoy. The pizza has good flavor and was cooked well.

I went there because of the cute train carriage. Even it has an old style and a bit out, the restaurant is clean. Our waiter was quick to see us to help with the order. The food was good and fast.

There is a new one in Covington. Nice and big with outdoor seating. The waiter explained how they use a rotating brick oven to evenly cook their pizza. The food came quickly. Drinks were refilled quickly. We tried fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and a hot honey pizza. The garlic sticks that come with the pasta were so soft and delicious. Pasta was amazing! Pizza was amazing! Also in a nice safe walkable area.

3 stars -- It was fine, just not a standout. We visited on a beautiful mid-summer day, and overall the experience was... okay. The pizza was decent but nothing memorable, and the bar area lacked ambiance. I appreciate the historic Water Works building and the nod to its heritage, but the space felt more big and industrial than warm or inviting. Service was fine, food was fine -- just not enough to make it a must-return spot for us. We might come back eventually, but it's not high on our list. The exterior setup with the rail car is actually pretty cool and ended up being one of the highlights.

I really liked the ambiance of this place. Very casual; great for a family might out. The service was good. The pizza, however, arrived lukewarm. It tasted fine.

The Works Brick Oven Restaurant is a fun, little place for pizza in an old railroad station. We recently went on a early weekday evening and they weren't crowded at all. Service was pretty good and they had an interesting selection of pizzas. Our table split the taco pizza and the mashed potato pizza, which were pretty good but the pizza fries were the hit of the night! Pizza toppings on top of french fries was surprisingly good.

With only a 3.5 rating on Yelp, I went here not expecting much and was still a little disappointed. Our server did a great job, but the food was just underwhelming. Our table split the pizza fries, a potato pizza, and a taco pizza. I didn't really enjoy any of the dishes but the rest of the table liked the fries. I do have to say that the building was cute and it was fun to check it out while in Loveland.

IN A STRIP MALL. And honestly, I'm not mad about it. I'm always on the hunt for somewhere local, somewhere new, and somewhere that gives me an excuse to eat entirely too much food. The Cute Dimpled One somehow found Bucks Tavern on the World Wide Web. Apparently the internet isn't completely useless. We needed somewhere to grab some fuel before heading off for a Nippert at Night experience. Now here's the problem... The game didn't start until around 7:30. My bedtime is 8:30. So basically, this was going to be an extreme endurance event. THE ATMOSPHERE Bucks Tavern is tucked into a strip mall in Loveland. Parking wasn't a problem for us, although I'm guessing things could get a little more interesting during the busy times. From the outside? Meh. Then you walk inside... WAIT A MINUTE. The outside says strip mall. The inside says "somebody's uncle owns a cabin in the woods and has been collecting deer heads since 1974." Warm colors, plenty of seating, a fireplace with a deer head hanging above it, high tops, low tops, a fully stocked bar and TVs everywhere. And speaking of high tops... Who decided these tables were a good idea? You sit down and suddenly you're back in elementary school sitting at the Big Kids Table, except now your legs are dangling and you're wondering if you're going to need a step stool to get back down. I really liked the decor. It was comfortable, welcoming and had that neighborhood tavern feel. And there were plenty of people inside who clearly weren't first timers. The staff seemed to know several of the customers. That's a good sign. It had a little bit of a Cheers vibe. You know the kind of place where somebody walks in and three people yell, "HEY BOB!" That's what you want in a local tavern. Mrs. Patty L. was our server and she was fantastic. She kept my water full, which is basically the gold standard for me. #Score THE FOOD Mrs. Patti L stopped by and got us started with the Mozzaluna Breaded Cheese. Basically breaded mozzarella triangles with marinara. The cheese was creamy. The marinara was good. Plenty of food. But... $13? I'm going to need the mozzarella to start telling me its life story for that price. It wasn't bad at all. I just didn't think it was a $13 appetizer. The Mrs. ordered the 5 Mini Burgers. Her review? She likes the mini burgers. Same price range as a regular burger, but she likes having five little burgers staring back at her. And naturally, she didn't eat them all. Because apparently we ordered enough food to feed a small township. I started looking through the menu trying to find something different. Bucks has a pretty traditional tavern menu with burgers, sandwiches, Reubens, club sandwiches, brats, tenderloin, chicken, fish, salads, soups and desserts. But then I saw it... THE MEATLOAF SANDWICH. Ladies and gentlemen... WE HAVE A WINNER. MEATLOAF SANDWICH A "Signature Sandwich" they say. Homemade meatloaf, lightly grilled, on a telera bun with pork barbecue, fried onion straws and barbecue sauce. And crinkle-cut fries. When it hit the table my first thought was: "Holy crap. That's a lot of sandwich." My second thought was: "Well, I guess we're doing this." I am a BIG fan of meatloaf. My grandmother and mother both made great meatloaf, and despite years of trying, I have never managed to duplicate either one. So whenever I see meatloaf on a menu, I'm probably ordering it. This one did NOT disappoint. The bun was delicious. The meatloaf was excellent. Then you get the pork barbecue and barbecue sauce kicking in, and suddenly your taste buds are having a little meeting. It was messy. Not "grab a napkin" messy. I'm talking cut-the-sandwich-in-half, deploy-the-napkins, accept-your-fate messy. I have a big mouth. No comment necessary. It was a challenge. The crinkle-cut fries were also cooked perfectly. Crispy without being burnt. And yes... I ate the whole thing. I was absolutely stuffed. Which brings me to something I need to address with myself... I NEED TO STOP ORDERING AN APPETIZER. Every single time. I walk into a restaurant hungry and suddenly I'm like: "Yeah, we should probably get an appetizer." Then the food arrives and I'm sitting there thinking: "Who authorized this?" #SaveTheAppetizer THE GOOD STUFF Friendly service Clean restrooms Comfortable atmosphere Full-service bar Plenty of seating Lots of TVs for sports Food portions that don't leave you wondering where the rest went Local neighborhood feel Staff that actually seemed to know their regulars Bucks even advertises eight HD televisions and Sunday Ticket, so if you're looking for somewhere to watch a game, they clearly came prepared. They've also been around since 2009, s

The ground floor is a traditional dining area, nicely appointed. The second floor was closed so we didn't get to see it. We were seated on the third floor, which is more sports bar themed and includes both indoor and patio options. The patio was not in use due to the threat of uncooperative weather. We had reservations and were seated quickly. The service was attentive and friendly. Despite the New Orleans vibe, the menu had only a handful of Louisiana style dishes and was more in line with a typical variety menu. I was down for some Cajun cuisine but there were few dishes that looked attractive. We shared apps of flash fried Brussels sprouts with remoulade and some Cajun dry rubbed wings, both of which were enjoyable but far from exceptional. I also ordered the jambalaya, which was more of a very spicy chicken and andouille stew with a scoop of rice in the center, not my usual experience with jambalaya. I'm a spicy food guy but even I thought the spice level of the dish was pretty aggressive and probably too much for the average diner. My companions' dishes were merely okay. The place boasts a bourbon emphasis, but I found the wine and beer selections to be lackluster. At the end of the exercise the bill for four people with two or three adult beverages each, plus tax and tip, was a little under $300. Overall it was a decent experience but not sure if I would be inclined to repeat it at that price point.
