As an occasional practitioner of yoga and barre, I always have a positive experience attending and being a part of The Yoga Room in Astoria. Previously before 2020, I practiced in their LIC establishment when they were open. Their Astoria studio is very close to public transportation so it is convenient for those who use the Queens buses or M/R trains. I choose this particular yoga studio based on their hot yoga classes and highly recommend any and all classes and teachers. There are a variety of times to choose from, so I found time most of the week to take a class and get used to the flow. Besides the helpful and friendly staff, I find that their amenities are excellent if I accidentally don't bring certain things such as towels or even a yoga mat. The ambience of the studio is very calming for those who need tranquility. Membership is highly recommended over individual classes. Accepts cash and card. Mind Body and Class Pass users as well as drop ins. Bathrooms, shower and unisex locker rooms available. Open decently late. Classes everyday. Clean and safe. read more

My boyfriend and I tried the 3-week unlimited new student special at both locations. The spaces are clean, and the community is incredibly welcoming. The classes aren't overcrowded, and the teachers are great. We loved the variety--Hot Vinyasa is a super intense workout, standard Vinyasa brings total calmness, and Vinyasa Flow is the perfect middle ground. We dropped it to 4 stars due to the pricing and schedule. A $20 drop-in fee and monthly memberships are way too high for Queens--they're closer to Manhattan prices. Also, working until 6 PM leaves me rushing only to hot yoga. We'd love to see more variety in the later weekday schedule! read more

I recently started working out again after almost a year of sitting on my couch doing nothing and The Yoga Room was the right mix of a gentle welcome back and kick in the butt I needed to reignite my fitness routine. The space itself offers a calming atmosphere, mindfully decorated with Buddha statues with pleasant aromas and complimentary tea. The studio itself is spacious and welcoming with a large bathroom, plenty of room to hang coats and store shoes and multiple workout rooms. I took a morning Sculpt and Tone class which was full but not overly packed. The pace of the class was well timed with spurts of work followed by enough breaks to recharge and start the next section of class. The class was a mix of lightweight training and Pilates movements that worked every part of my body. I walked out of class feeling accomplished and ready to take on the day. Classes here are pricey, but worth the investment in my opinion if you're planning to come here on a regular basis. After purchasing one drop in class I received a gift certificate for $30 which will cover another (not sure how long this promo will last) so it's like getting two classes for the price of one! read more

After class on a Saturday, I overheard the person at the front desk and a teacher ( I won't throw anyone under the bus) speaking recklessly about the class the teacher had just instructed. Everyone started at the beginning is what some people forget. I've been going to the Yoga Room, off and on, since they were located on Steinway. It's grown to be a bit pretentious. They offer memberships as well as !10 community classes early weekend mornings. The instructors - most especially Sarah who is beyond amazing make the experience great. Don't waste your time or money. The studio itself is clean, nice, and the community is friendly. Unfortunately both teachers I had were terrible. I should mention that I am a professional dancer, certified Pilates teacher and personal trainer, I have been doing recreational yoga for 10+ years in several different states...I have NEVER had teachers so unprofessional and abrasive. One of the teachers told us we all "failed" the pose because we didn't take his correction (which was anatomically incorrect, I might add); the other interrupted the whole class to lecture about alignment which only pertained to about 3 students in a room of 30ish people. On top of it, neither instructor brought a sense of flow to the class, neither instructor encouraged modifications/strengthening your individual practice, and neither instructor gave me a satisfactory class. I hate writing negative reviews...especially because this studio is close to my apartment and the community is nice. Sadly these were the worst yoga classes I've taken in my life and I wish someone would have written a review like this before I spent my time/money at Yoga Room. Amazing!! I purchased the $49 starter package. I did 2 classes within 3 weeks and I wasn't able to go for a while because of my schedule. I tried to book my 3rd class online and for some reason they were not allowing me so I called the studio 20 mins. prior and found out that the 3 classes should be done within 21 days but they still let me go to the class which is a huge deal. First of all they're all very nice and the studio is really clean. I did all three classes with Veronika, she's awesome! Very motivational, she'll really guide you verbally and even walk you through all the poses. read more

Some like their open level yoga classes, some like their barre, some like their Pilate classes. I love their hot room. They offer both hot vinyasa and hot yoga 75. I have been here couple of times before taking classes in hot yoga, Pilates, and then aerial yoga. Each time when I engage in a class, I feel a change in my body. That's a good thing. I come here for HOT YOGA...and this place sure delivers. Nothing feels better (post Covid) than getting the body back in shape. Yes, it's hot, but after the shit we've all been through in two years, you are now better built to handle this. The instructors are awesome! Each with their own wisdom in his or her way. As I called the studio prior my arrival to alert them I'll be coming in for a class and to make sure I'm all good for a 3 class trial for $49 and taking an hour to get there ... to find out I can't do the $49 trial because I was there once 7 years ago. I've been coming to this place for about 2 years. It's definitely one of the leading yoga studios in the NYC. Clean, well-organized and a sanctuary space for relaxation and yoga study. All the teachers are good, but the one's that stand out are: Kevin (Sun morning) Danielle (Mon morning and Tues morning) Yuval (Sat morning) One observation I have about the teachers is that they've all been doing yoga for some time and are not bright pretty 22 year old former dancers making a career switch. read more

Best lay out ever. There are three amazing rooms, all spacious and with their own charm. It is clean, calm and the best studio I have ever been to for a variety of resaons (probably 15 or so). The classes are never crowded, even the 6pm ones, and the teacher in most part are helpful and constructive. That said, they do not have a level rating for their regular ashtanga flow, so it could be a pretty beginner class you are taking depending on the teacher, or a more intermediate bordering on advanced asanas. I prefer a level system, so I don't get stuck in a beginner class and feel like I am just doing the basics....I wanna sweat and be challenged. So far, the most challenging and fun class I have been to is Eric's Thursday 6pm class. He is a great instructor, has a nice flow to the asanas, and allows you to explore your practice further. I do wish they had an advanced like level 3 class, as I feel all the classes are very similar and I am stuck in level 2. That said, the LIC studio hot ashtanga felt more advanced, I just dont do hot. Very negative energy in the place. I walked in, in person since they never pick up the phone. As soon as I walked in I felt the bad energy and it just got worst. I wanted to get a day pass for my girlfriend to see if she'll like the space and classes before signing her up (normal request). I was immediately given a lecture about "how they can't run a business like that" I walked in as a potential client and now here I am writing them a negative review. They only care about taking your money and not interested in you or they type of services they provide to their members or potential customers. I have been taking Wesley C's class for almost ten years now - he's one of my favorite instructors because of his unpretentious, accessible, and challenging flows. I've followed him from studio to studio because he makes yoga fun and helps me to enjoy the process rather than focus on the result of "nailing a pose". Let me just tell you that I found an instructor in Manhattan around 2010 (maybe earlier?) and followed him to Astoria and if you live in Manhattan you know we have plenty there and don't need to go to Astoria at 7pm for hot yoga....but this guy (Wesley) and this place is worth it. Unrelated note but he is drinking some potion of youth because this guy is like 50 and looks like he's in his early 30s...and moves like it, too. I can't speak for any of the other teachers but Wesley teaches an incredible, and hard, class but never takes himself or Yoga too seriously, even though he's serious about Yoga. So if you are a beginner like I was when I started with him, it's no biggie. He taught me everything I know with patience and humor. read more

This is the best studio I've been to. I moved back to NY this year for 6 months. I originally thought I'd want to try out all the different fitness studios in the area, but after my 3 week intro pass I was hooked on The Yoga Room. This is a beautiful and spacious studio. Walking by it doesn't look like much, but upon entering I was amazed by how much this studio felt like a spa. They have lockers, super clean bathrooms, showers, changing areas, and (I think) 3 different classrooms. They also have loads of props and the instructors generally make good use of them. The check-in process is efficient and the people who work there are friendly and helpful. I've liked most of the instructors, but my absolute favorites are Jenn S., Jennifer B, and Stephanie. Jenn S. has a very commanding presence, teaches the most physically challenging classes, and her barre and sculpt & tone classes are more fast-paced. I spend 25% of class with her wondering why I'm torturing myself, and 75% of the class feeling like a badass bitch who can conquer the world. I'm in the best shape of my life mostly thanks to her. Jennifer B's classes, on the other hand, tend to be deliberate and methodical. Her sculpt & tone class is slower, but in an amazing way. I always feel stronger and more flexible after attending her class. I've only been to Steph's classes a few times, but really enjoy her cheery teaching style and feel thoroughly worked out afterwards. I love love love that the instructors don't comment on bodies, don't encourage weight loss or make weird remarks like "get beach body ready". They also have the perfect balance of motivating their students to give it their all while still being gracious if you need to take a break in child's pose during class. My few criticisms would be that sometimes the classroom floors get a little dusty and have debris on them. I'd love if there was more of a focus on sweeping the room before classes. Canceling my membership was trickier than they originally made it seem. (I'm only canceling because I'm leaving NY) I had to call in and be guided through the process. Remember you need to cancel 15 days before your next billing date or you will be charged for the next month. Also, if you've never been to an aerial yoga class I wouldn't start with Katrina's Friday class. It was really fast paced and geared towards intermediate level students. Apparently the Sat & Sun aerial yoga classes are more chill, but I haven't been to them yet. All in all The Yoga Room is awesome. The people are friendly. The classes are phenomenal. Buy the 3 week introductory pass and take it from there. You won't regret it. read more

Thieves! Be very careful when you cancel. You basically have to do it in the middle of your billing cycle or be forced to pay for another month you won't use. I even e-mailed the manager, Jennifer, before my billing cycle so they could remove me from the payment cycle (which they have the capacity to do, they just want to hustle you out of more money). It would have been very easy for her to avoid charging me, she just didn't want to. I stupidly didn't change my card info in advance to avoid the charge, but instead later disputed it after I saw she charged me anyway! She actually fought with my cc card company over $140. Pathetic! I guess there aren't enough kept women in LIC to keep the place afloat. They have to resort to pinching every penny from their customers. read more

It was hard to swallow the price tag, but the upside is that I am motivated to go almost every day! The instructors are excellent and the studio is lovely, which makes it all worth it. I love the funny barre teachers (Will, Daniel, Cameron) and Victoria's flow classes are top notch. I have noticed a big difference in my attitude, stress level, and body. TYR is often the best part of my day. The front desk staff even greets me (not a chatty person!) by name. I still love yoga room. But avoid Franciscas class at all costs. She didn't ask if anyone was beginner or injured at the beginning of class and for the first 20 minutes was almost reprimanding people for not staying with the group (me-a person with three injuries who had been practicing for 10 yrs and who knows how to modify and listen to my body). Her style was the opposite of any yoga I've practiced. Constantly saying "listen to the instructions", and "concentrate" which is not really how I would describe the idea of where your head should be at during yoga. Also kept describing how u should hold positions or stay in certain poses even if they don't feel good or you don't want to-like a self-discipline philosophy-almost like no pain no gain- again the opposite of how I've learned to practice. Oh I almost forgot, I was returning to yoga for a much needed break from family and life to focus on myself for once in a blue moon---so when she said to set your intention for the practice, I thought "me-self care" and she continued, "your intention should not be about me, or I" blah blah something about outwardness. Honestly the entire class was stressful and rigid and nothing about her approach is welcoming, inclusive, mindful, and healing. I love all the other teachers. This was the only such incident in 3 years of going to yoga room. I'll avoid her classes at all costs. She also kept referring to beginners (which I am not) in terms of the people who were modifying, again having not bothered to ask about injuries. When she demonstrated advanced poses, it seems more as if she wanted everyone to see that she could do them, more than for teaching purposes. Just, no. Let me add some of the excellent teachers there are Juliana (lovely person, funny), Angela (caring soul, excellent teacher), victoria (fast vinyasa not for all but great teacher), Eddie (always interesting), jenn (solid), Chelsea (lovely spirit-may not be there anymore), Anne T (different style, funny, excellent). read more

This place is fantastic. Clean. Friendly. Zen. The whole atmosphere is optimistic and has an energizing quality to it. I've practiced in several yoga studios and TYR is a place where I feel the most focused on myself and my practice. They cultivate an easily accessible and self-reflective style of yoga that is both challenging and empowering. Even the most crowded classes feel spacious. The instructors are deeply knowledgeable and it's always apparent that they put great care and effort into their classes. I'm very impressed with the attention to safety and form during the Pilates and Barre classes. There are many options presented for more or less difficult variations to optimize the classes for each student. Some of my favorite classes are Pilates foundations with Stephanie, Vinyasa Flow with Victoria, Alida, or Francisca, Barre with Jaime, and Hot Pilates with Jen. Even the bathrooms are calming. The air is often humidified, which is great during these cold, dry winter days. It can get crowded at times, but the other ladies are generally quite friendly so I don't mind. There are also lotions, soaps, shampoos, etc and a hair dryer if you don't want to carry all that around with you. With the world seemingly going mad, this is the perfect place to get a great workout while unplugging from the chaos and tuning into your own needs. I love TYR. read more

I really, really wanted to love this place. I'm sad that I have to write a bad review. But honestly, I have NEVER had such a negative experience at Yoga studio. I recently moved to Astoria and have been looking for a yoga studio to call home. I had high hopes about The Yoga Room due to the positive reviews I had read online and some word of mouth suggestions by my friends. It also seems to be the only show in town, so I was crossing my fingers that it would not be a disappointment. This week I finally went down to try it. My heart was open to all The Yoga Room had to offer. First of all, the front desk woman was extremely rude and unprofessional. There was no beginner student special...only a monthly unlimited for like 150 dollars. That is a really big cash commitment when you are just feeling the place out. Usually a yoga studio will offer a 3 class card for 30 dollars(or something like that) so you can try out a couple instructors and get a good feel for the place. "No. We don't do that," snapped the curt lady behind the desk. She pushed me to buy a package( Why would I buy a huge package when i haven't even tried a class yet?). I decided to stick with a single class. So...my first class and yoga mat rental totaled 20 dollars. I expect to pay that much in Manhattan...but Astoria? Sheesh. Also, the tiny mat was smelly and dirty I was ushered by a fellow student to the classroom( the space IS big and impressive, with lots of nice Pilates equipment). The teacher's name was Tzahi, and I am really, really sorry...but it was one of the worst classes I have ever been to. No focus, poor adjustments, demonstrating incorrect form. It was a Vinyasa class with no flow and very little focus in alignment. I felt like unsafe, like I was going to get injured at any second. I have studied Yoga for seven years and taught for five. I would not recommend that any of my friends or students go here. Perhaps there are better teachers and more welcoming work studies at the Yoga Room. But my first impression left me with a terrible taste in my mouth. I'm sorry...it's back to Manhattan for good quality Yoga teachers that I can trust. read more

I share with other reviewers the opinion that TYR meets or exceeds expectations for layout, staff, vibe, and so forth. I share also the opinion of many reviewers that the place is overpriced, and, I add, inflexible if you are in a tough situation. I was only to be in NYC for a month so I sought the introductory $39 special. I was declined that as I was not a NYC resident. Fair enough. I paid a few drop-in fees at $20 a pop and then decided to get a five-class card at $90. As luck would have it, I had to leave NYC immediately after buying the card to see to matters in California. I asked TYR if I could transfer the card to my fiancée, who remains in NYC - please, I said, I had spent a lot of money for just a few classes ($130 for three classes), can I please just transfer these to her? No reply. I had to bump the message two times over the course of nine days. Then they said no. Policies are polices at TYR--fair enough, but the rigid inflexibility is disappointing (and somewhat ironic), and the poor communication frustrating. Update: half a year later I have returned to NYC, now in the UES, where I have taken up at Pure. ... I stand by my assessment that TYR is a quality establishment (with, in my case, unpleasant customer service), but it cannot compare to Pure in terms of class selection. Throw in the fact they are similarly priced (Pure was actually considerably cheaper once you factored in free month and friend referral bonuses), I strongly prefer Pure. read more

Hot vinyasa flow is your super sweaty, challenge yourself like never before workout. The standard vinyasa class is great when looking to feel a sense of calmness at the end of your class. Vinyasa flow is somewhere in the middle. Why I didn't give it 5 stars: price & schedule. $20 to drop in is a lot for queens! Monthly memberships are at Manhattan prices as well. Same story here as the Yoga Room LIC. It is clean, the teachers are genuinely nice people, the vibe is easy. Good-looking staff. I caught the Sunday vinyasa beginners class at first and was quite pleased with it. Our teacher mentioned to me that I didn't have to be familiar with all the terms in order to go on with my practice. I love that Yoga Room emphasizes making your practice your own - go at your own pace, don't overdo it. For example, you don't have to be able to do the headstand that that show-off on the other end of the studio is doing. You can grow into it, or you can leave it off your yoga agenda. Up to you. Wesley's hot vinyasa power hour is a favorite. I can't handle bikram - the poses and having to do them in a searingly hot room for so long. Hot vinyasa is perfect - one hour, vinyasa asanas, yet you get the same benefits as bikram (getting rid of impurities, warming up your muscles, etc). Wesley is a lot of fun, too. The one problem I have with this place is that it is a lot of money, especially compared to other yoga studios in Astoria. I wish TYR Astoria would ease their prices a bit. I get that LIC has pretty much been annexed by Manhattan, so the prices make sense there, but they don't in Astoria. However, I realize that they can't make LIC and Astoria prices different, and yes it is a really nice studio and the level of cleanliness is not easily found in other studios. I chose the Yoga Room as an alternative to the gym. You can get fit without having to sweat it out on a cardio machine. You still sweat it out, but in a much better, more relaxing environment. There's more of an opportunity to get to know yourself and what you can do and be happy with it, or push yourself if that's what you're after. Looking forward to taking more hot vinyasa, beginners and restorative classes. Casually ignore the 5 Napkin Burger across the street. read more

I had my first Hot Yoga experience at The Yoga Room and I haven't looked back. You receive a key tag when you purchase sessions. Check out the website for a rate sheet. They offer discounts to students and actors. They also have really good deals for first-time students. Taking your shoes off before entering the actual back area is very important to them. When you're a new student, you will get a tour of the whole space. There's a pilates room, hot room and a couple other regular rooms I think. Gorgeous space and layout. Very relaxing environment. EVERYTHING IS SO CLEAN!!** You would assume you would smell the most foul odors since you're sweating buckets. There are always staff mopping down the rooms and hallways in between classes. My first class was with Wesley and he made me feel so comfortable. The instructor asks if there's anybody new and they give you a brief run-down of what you should know (i.e. water breaks, light-headedness, etc.). The three or four instructors I took classes from are extremely encouraging, non-judgmental and helpful. They will not push you to your limit, they're there to make you aware of your potential. The locker room is fairly tiny and it lacks cubby spaces. There is basically an "honor system" that you stick by. I NEVER had an issue with theft. I would hope that this remains this way. I always leave the studio feeling fantastic and amazing. It's worth every penny and I highly recommend your first hot yoga experience be at this studio! read more

I LOVE TYR! The instructors are amazing and the facilities are beautiful. The unlimited is a little pricey for Astoria, but I consider it worth it... I just run outside for my other workout activities. A sacrifice well worth it, the classes here are so much more fulfilling than at Equinox or New York Health and Racquet Club. How could they get 5 stars? Super easy....more non hot classes, and some 6:45 to 7:15 start times! I don't really enjoy hot yoga on the regular as I don't feel it really deepens my practice...but since I love the studio, I continue to go and recommend it to all of my friends :) read more

Best yoga studio in queens. Whether you're an experienced yogi or newbie yogi, they have a class for you! They have classes at all different times so they cater to work schedules. Clean studio with friendly knowledgable staff. The yoga instructors here are so great that they can verbally guide you to the different poses without even showing you! Anyone who knows me would probably say that I was the "anti-yogi". I had always preferred high impact high intensity boot camp style workouts over Pilates and especially yoga. Then 3 months ago I had surgery to have a tumor removed from one of my parathyroid glands. Doctors' orders were no heavy lifting or strenuous exercise. Exercise had always been my form of therapy and I didn't want to lose that for the next 6 weeks, so I decided to give Pilates and Barre class a try and I couldn't believe it, but I loved it! Then a little more than 8 weeks after my surgery, I went through some personal things that physically made my heart hurt. I'm not one to really carry things on the surface or allow things to bring me down, but I thought nothing would make that feeling stop. Then tried yoga. If I said that I got it right away, I'd be lying. I am definitely one of those people that the instructor (Wesley) tells to stop making faces when something is difficult. The feeling I had when I left that class was indescribable. Not only had my chest stopped hurting at some point during the class, but I felt this energy. My friend asked me after class how I felt and the first thing that came to mind was..... "I feel like a ninja!" LOL. It was the first time in while I felt like me, but an even better me. I've been back every week since. It may sound a little cheesy, but the vinyasa classes here just may have saved my spirit. In a situation where I could have easily carried a lot of heaviness, I was able to let it go and be calm (for the most part). I'm incredibly grateful to this studio for having such amazing instructors and thankful to the instructors (Nil, Wesley, Victor, Stephanie, Tanya & Hannah) for welcoming this "anti-yogi" to the practice. read more
