I'm just getting back into yoga, and I really appreciate that Y7 has such a calming, nonjudgmental atmosphere. That said, this studio just isn't quite my cup of tea. I personally prefer a brighter space where I can see the instructor and learn proper form as I get back into yoga. I do sometimes have to look around to follow the verbal cues, which can be tricky if you're newer to the practice. It also is a little bit uncomfortable because of how close together we are. I wish the classes were smaller so that I had more room to spread out. However, I can definitely see why so many people love Y7, it's a great fit for experienced or moderately experienced yogis who enjoy a more immersive, flow-based practice. Also, I'm honestly surprised by some of the negative reviews I've seen online, especially I haven't experienced any of those issues myself. read more

Don't be late for 1 minute (even if your subway is delayed) because it's a "health and safety issue" after the door is closed - aka the instructors don't want to be interrupted while they are lighting palo santo and hyping up their playlists. The front desk check in girls are incredibly rude and unkind. At the end of the day, the classes are just okay, not challenging flows and overpriced for what it is. read more

I'm unable to actually book through their app and when I shared the issue, they said it he an easy fix. it's been three months and nothing. my classes will expire and they won't extend it. I've never seen a business so unwilling or uninterested in supporting their paying customers. they would disappear for weeks with no update and no one seems to care that I've spent money and my classes are held hostage I know many that have had issues w this management. they don't care. there are plenty of better studios nearby. There's a lot of one star reviews left recently that I think aren't all that fair. Yes, the staff aren't the warmest, but the person at the front today was way better than typical. He was friendly and helpful. Yes, try to show up early. The room is dark and they are strict about not letting in late comers. Yes, the space is a little cramped and people are packed in. However, I've never accidentally touched the person next to me. You can ask for a small towel (included in the price) for free. Yoga blocks are free. Larger towels and mats are not. You can also buy water. The locker room is unisex but there are separate changing rooms, bathrooms, and a shower. The yoga classrooms are dark and hot. There's not much airflow (done on purpose) and the space is lit by candles. The flow of the class is generally 3 sets of yoga flows and you do each set 3 times: once slowly guided, once quickly guided, then once on your own unguided. It doesn't matter if you can't remember all the poses. The music is generally upbeat except in the beginning and end. I'm not rating it 5 stars because recently they started adding short segments of core and cardio after the first and third yoga sets. I really don't like this new addition, especially since the last core/cardio combo starts after they tell you to lay down on the mat and start resting. I don't want to do mountain climbers in a hot yoga studio. Overall, I recommend it if you're looking for a hot yoga experience that is somewhat different from your typical yoga studio. The last time I did a yoga class was pre-pandemic and was part of a work event.... so my review is probably helpful for people who aren't super experienced. I had a nice time at y7 (evening weekday session with Shannon). The layout is a little confusing, since the lobby/lockers are up several flights of stairs and then the yoga studio is up another flight. Everything generally seemed clean considering how wet and muddy it was outside. They check your vaccine info at the front desk which is nice. The locker rooms are nice, with some toiletries like face wipes available for you. There's a couple of changing rooms and bathrooms for you to use. The session itself was an interesting experience. There's not much space between mats and they're basically right next to each other. Masks are optional and most people ended up taking theirs off... The class was also full so if you're very covid cautious, you probably would not like this experience. The instructor was nice and explained most of the movements/poses but I was still kind of lost sometimes.. but you can just do your own thing or copy other people. I never felt uncomfortable even when i was doing the wrong thing lol. The music really didn't do much for me but I guess it's part of the aesthetic. It's fun to try out - there's reasonably priced new client packages and single session passes so you don't have to commit too much. read more

To be honest I was on the fence about getting back into hot yoga for obvious reasons. But I missed Y7 so much that I decided to bite the bullet and return after a long crazy year. I went on a Saturday morning so it wasn't busy, they asked for proof of vaccination, it seemed super clean, very little foot traffic in the locker rooms and everyone respected each other's space so that was a relief. As for the class, it was the same as before COVID. The instructor guided us, we flowed on our own, the playlist amazing as always with songs to keep you motivated. So glad they reopened and now have more classes available so I can take more breaks while working from home. read more

Met my cousin for her birthday, walked in at 5:44 and the clock was turning 5:45 as I was giving my name to get checked in and they locked me out of class. The front desk workers couldn't have been more rude and hardos about the situation. I work with clients every day and use to work at a gym and never received such rude customer service. I waited until I did my three classes from my beginner pass before writing this review. This is definitely a different yoga than anything I have ever been exposed to so I really wanted to give it a fair shot. I am well versed in hot yoga, so heat was no issue for me. The first class I took was very difficult for me. The "flow on your own" thing was awkward to me and, honestly, in my three visits, I still did not get used to it. Additionally, I know that my positioning was wrong, I know that I wasn't doing things correctly every time, BUT no one tried to fix me. Yes, when the instructor saw incorrect things, she did stress them as she guided us through our early flows, but I am very used to being guided into correct positioning... this felt like a free for all. I'm sure is nice for some people, but definitely not what I am looking for. It was stressful to me... yoga should not be stressful. The classes are listed as a all levels classes, but if you do not have a good knowledge of yoga practice... you're going to be lost. The darkness of the room makes it even harder because its difficult to follow others. Surprisingly, the loud music drowned out more than I expected it to. There are two studios named Biggie and Smalls, both candlelit and all black everything. This place is very 90s hip hop/ rap themed.... A Tribe Called Sweat, We Flow Hard, Money Cash Flows.... it goes on and on. The check in process was quick and easy. The women behind the front desk were friendly and helpful. The rental towels and mats were seemingly clean. I was worried about the cleanliness of the rental mats, but everyone seemed to use them and I watched staff clean them, so I felt comfortable following suit. The locker room is clean and spacious enough. There are plenty of lockers, bathrooms, and changing rooms. There is a nice selection of lotions, face wipes, spray deodorants, dry shampoos, etc for everyone to use. All of those items have been well stocked each time that I have gone. I've never considered myself a yogi, or even someone would would dabble in the yoga world. Over the past year or so, I've begun trying out various studios across the city, but none have really captured my attention. That came to a halt once I discovered Y7, which has now superseded any HIIT, Spin, and all other studios that I frequent. Y7 itself has multiple studios across Manhattan. Brooklyn, and Los Angeles. Of those, I've only visited their location in the UES, so I unfortunately can't compare the amenities across them. Nonetheless, I have been more than satisfied with Y7 Upper East Side. Located on 3rd Avenue, between 82nd and 83rd Street, it is conveniently located near 2 subway lines. Before you make your way into the studio, there are 4 quick flights of stairs that you'll have to traverse. Upon entering, you'll be greeted with the front desk, accompanied with a slew of merch. This location has plenty of lockers to go around, and 3 private showers. There are 2 studios here, aptly named "Biggie" and "Smalls." If you're new to Y7, they're known for hip-hop yoga. While you go through your vinyasa flow, you're in a heated and candlelit room. Flows are led by the instructor verbally, where you're led through 3 sets. My only gripe with Y7 is that you only have about a foot of space between you and your yogi neighbor. Depending on the pose, there's a chance that you'll hit each other. Nonetheless, the environment is welcoming, music is amazing, and the flows themselves vary day to day. All in all, Y7 has quickly ascended to my #1 yoga studio in the city. read more

It has two practice rooms ("Biggie" and "Smalls," of course) one flight of stairs up from the front desk. While the Union Square location has a changing area that's just an alcove off the main lobby, the UES location has a legit locker room with digital lockers. There are shower rooms you can "reserve" with the front desk, but they seemed to always be empty after class. I think most people just don't bother. Embrace the sweat. The larger practice room here has an awkward asymmetrical layout, so mats line up unevenly and someone's half moon might involve kicking you in the face. The smaller room is comparable in size to the Union Square location's, with space for two rows of mats. While some yoga studios keep a small altar in the room, to anchor the room and give a sense of gratitude and worship, Y7's practice rooms have large murals designating the front of the room, with phrases like A TRIBE CALLED SWEAT and other rap/hip hop puns. Kanye Blessed, Flowtorius B.I.G., Fetty Wrap, Brooklyn We Flow Hard... it never ends. One thing I really appreciate about Y7 is that they know what their selling point is, and they sell the crap out of it. I am not consistent with my yoga practice, at all, but I practice enough to know the names of poses and follow along. One of the many things I love about the UES studio is that there is a legit co-ed locker room so you can change instead of awkwardly waiting for a bathroom to change in like the other studios. The classes are challenging, and you can modify to make it harder, and I love the 1, 2, 3 structure of the flows. It lets you listen to your body and adapt the flow to what you need without feeling judged. Sometimes your arms want to crow and sometimes they don't! The instructors are all very nice, approachable and they develop really creative flows so you're not doing the same thing every week. My biggest complaint is their lateness policy. The NYC subway is TERRIBLE and when you're commuting from work, delays happen and the stress of getting to the studio on time is so real. Though I've learned that if you're in the studio changing, for example, they'll keep calling out "last call" to get you in to the studio ASAP. read more

If you're looking for a non-traditional yoga experience, you'll find it here. With the loud music, and body workouts (sit-ups, planks) thrown in, it almost feels like a gym class. The studio is clean and they offer some personal products free to use afterwards (face wipes, lotion, deodorant). Masks are recommended though not required during class, and proof of vax is required. There was a literal flood in the city and I was 1 minute late and not allowed in. Disappointed

Y7 is not for me. It's my least favorite part of Bikram (the heat) and my least favorite part of vinyasa (the speed), combined with a pitch black room, bumping music and almost no space - we were absolutely crammed in. Another yogi reviewer put it well, "like sardines." I found the darkness made it difficult to focus on one spot for balance or copy the person in front of you. In some classes, the flows have been a bit convoluted, like an iyengar flow with the speed of vinyasa, including balancing poses and strength poses I would generally spend a few breaths in. The odd mash-up of yoga disciplines and stimulus (loud music) versus lack of stimulus (pitch black) didn't work for me. I like that the instructors don't give you a hard time for changing things up to suit you. On the third flow sequence, I frequently focus on one pose I want to perfect rather than rushing through a sequence and I feel comfortable doing that here. Furthermore, heated yoga is always great for feeling flexible! The format of the class, with three flows done three times makes time fly. That being said, just because I didn't like it doesn't mean it's bad. The studio is clean, the instructors overall knowledgeable and friendly, and I commend the gender neutral locker room. I love Y7 so much!!! My first time to the UES studio was on Friday 8/5/22 (I frequent Flatiron and East Village). The only con I have is the stairs! lol You have to walk up 4 flights of stairs to get into the check in area and locker room. The studios are an additional flight up. The lockers are a bit bigger at this location too! The bathrooms in all black were a stylish touch! I flowed with Alexa to her Taylor Swift themed class. One of the hottest studios I have been in, the sweat was pouring! Some of the moves were more advanced for me, but I modified the best I knew how (I.E. high lunge turned into knee down lunge). Alexa did a great job of offering modifications, different poses, etc. I love the flow on your own portion so much, and happily flowed to TS "welcome to New York". She did a great job with the music. The floor IS pretty slippery at the end of class. Which we were also warned about, so that we could be careful. I thought the mats were cleaned well. The towels smelled so so fresh! I couldn't help but smell them as I wiped off after each flow. Overall, I loved this studio. And would return again! read more

I love the classes here and the instructors! Chloe's classes are amazing because they are challenging and make you sweat a ton. She's also clear in the way she speaks and makes the class go by quickly and corrects your posture to prevent any injuries. I enjoy coming here because the classes are truly unique and enjoyable. It's a fun and relaxing workout. The space overall is a little dirty (for my liking, I'm really OCD). But other than that I love it and will come back again and again. I visit the Bryant park studio too since it's close to where I work. I highly recommend if you are looking for a relaxing yet challenging workout that will wake you up and open your mind!! read more

This studio has a VERY strict late policy that is not posted on their ClassPass page. I arrived at 7:02am for a 7:00 class and was not let in. I completely understand and respect that a policy is a policy and exists for a reason, but I really wish that this information had been posted publicly so I could save myself a 20 minute bus ride there and back at 6:30am. The girl working at the check-in desk was very sweet and offered to refund my class, which made this a little easier to bear. Not enough space in between mat brackets for people to comfortably practice yoga! How can you expect a room full of people with only 6" of space in between mats to be able to do a wide legged forward fold without bumping into a crotch? And after the height of a pandemic, y& is not trying to add more space? After raising class rates by about 20%? Y7 charges Equinox-like rates for Planet Fitness type of quality. Shameful! read more

It's surprising this place has any reviews lower than 4 or 5 stars - it's fantastic. Clean, spacious enough (considering it's the UES), pleasant staff, and an awesome concept. Y7 puts a new creative bent on traditional yoga that seriously resonates with those of us who may have tried yoga many times before but never connect to it. Classes are heated and done in candlelight. Music is old-school R&B/HipHop which may sound bizarre for a yoga class but totally works. Two kinds of classes - WeFlowHard (more structured sequences) and SlowBurn (better for stretching). SlowBurn is my fave - I'll never be able to go back to regular yoga again! read more

I have done Y7 3 times at this point and its very nice for a good sweat but there are some overall improvements I would like to suggest to whoever might be reading this. Here are my two issues: Space: Let me tell you an anecdote- my last time at Y7 the guy next to me with absolutely no spacial awareness or respect for those around him made the active decision to invade my space as much as possible. When this actually became dangerous was as we moved through our flows. For example, while I was balancing in Warrior 3 he was doing Rockstar, and smacked into me causing me to lose my balance and fall. I have the same right as him to move mindfully through my practice without having to be concerned about jerks being aggressive and trying to show off. My suggestion for this is that the instructors that are leading the class should be monitoring the classroom and make announcements to be mindful about respecting the space of the people next to them and secondly, when dangerous situations are identified they need to speak to the individual. Locker Room: The locker room being co-ed doesn't bother me in the slightest. The bathroom and shower rooms can be used for those who would like to change clothing. However, gentlemen walking around fully naked makes the locker room feel uncomfortable. Signs should be posted in common areas that they are not for changing and individuals should be directed to a private room in order to change clothing. Overall the facilities and staff are very nice and the workout can be very fun but packing people into small spaces does require some responsibility on the part of the staff to make sure everyone is comfortable in your space. read more

I hated it. It felt like really bad sex! Like; when you're into a deep sexual groove and your partner starts talking some whack shit... ‍ Why the 5 stars? I'm giving Y7 five stars because the staff is utterly amazing, from checking in to me walking out after the 3rd instructed flow my experience was never awkward. Lauren (the instructor) is a dream to work with. The studio is f*cking stunning. The girls at the front desk are angels. It's also a dope option if traditional yoga is too traditional for you. I; however, need quiet and traditional. The instructed flows were awesome although I had to strain a little to hear her over the music. Once the music cranked up (really loud) and we were asked to freestyle yoga (do whatever we want) - that's when they really lost me. The heat is beautiful, it's infrared, not sweltering. The candle light is dope. It's well worth 5 stars even if it's not for me - I say try it - you may live for it. read more

Love this Y7 studio. The staff is super friendly, and it's always clean. They have 2 practice rooms, however, b/c I usually do the slow burn class, I have only practiced in the larger room, Biggie. Great for people who want to sweat/move, but to do it in an environment where you can wholly focus on your movement without distractions (the room is DARK). Speaking of distractions, my only issue with the studio is that some of the other yogis should buy a ticket on the hygiene train. I get that most people (not me) just roll out of bed and head to the studio for early morning classes, but if you haven't showered in 24 hours, spare us the hamburger and onion scents. It's hot yoga, take a "bird bath" before hand if you need to do so. I can't focus on my warrior 2 when my olfactory senses are under assault. I'm certainly glad they smudge the room with a pleasant scent between classes, but that doesn't really help when Onion-y McGrue is next to you hitting chair pose with a sweep of his allium scented arms. Anyway, Kendra Thomas is the best instructor ( she is currently out for about a month ). I also love classes with Chelsea Finke. As an aside, my fave Y7 studio is Tribeca, but only b/c the practice room is bigger with a nice high ceiling, so the room doesn't feel so close. read more

I enjoyed my class with Kendra! The studio is large - you check in on the fourth floor and then can put in your belongings in a digital locker; there are some showers and bathrooms. Bear in mind that this is a co-ed locker room! Then you can head upstairs to 2 studio spaces, named Biggie and Smalls. The studio is dark, candle-lit and I thought Kendra was tough but the hot yoga practice was wonderful. She goes through the set of flows with you twice, and then you do it once on your own at your own pace. Sometimes it's hard to remember all the sequences, but just do what you can! You can rent a yoga mat, full yoga towel or just bring your own. They'll give you face towels/shower towels, you just have to ask at the front desk. My favorite yoga studio in the city. Not only is it the biggest studio of the y7 studios in the city, its super clean and tidy. They have gender neutral bathrooms and the place is super cool. It's all black. The theme to the yoga is special because it's yoga with a hip hop kind of twist. They offer two types of yoga: slow burn and vinyasa yoga. The instructors are really nice. I definitely recommend coming here! read more

Y7 challenges many of the yoga principles I've picked up over the years, but I'm kinda digging it. 1. It can be tough to find time to dedicate to my practice throughout the week. 60 minutes is the perfect amount of time to get your sweat on and re-focus. 2. Candle lit yoga is seriously life changing. You can leave any insecurities at the door and truly focus on your practice. Note: While nice, the dim lighting can make it tough to balance and follow along if you're not familiar with the poses. 3. Their 1,2,3 sequences make class go by wicked fast. 4. All. Black. Everything. Their studio aesthetic speaks to me on a spiritual level. So why only the three stars? While I'm a fan of Y7, there are a few things that keep me from giving it a higher rating. 1. Living in NYC you're bound to be running late thanks to circumstances outside of your control (shoutout to the MTA). While I appreciate punctuality, it would be great if they extended empathy to their customers and re-considered their late policy. Life happens! 2. Please please please fix your lockers. I'm a big advocate for the lockless lockers, but it defeats the purpose if I need to call over a staff member to unlock it. All critiques aside, I definitely recommend giving Y7 a try if you're looking to switch up your yoga routine. read more

First time coming to Y7 (any of the locations). The misses and I were popping by before a dinner with family in the UES. Overall I had a pretty good experience The flow wasn't my favorite with Jane, but that's just me. She was very instructive but seemed at times more formulaic. The facilities are really something, first and foremost the hot is under UV light and not just swamp heat from above. As someone who has done Bikram for years, I really appreciated this. The room was a wee bit dark so sometimes balance was hard to find, but again that's just me take it with a grain of salt. On to the locker room - FYI THIS IS A CO-ED LOCKER ROOM. I've seen a lot of these now, when you think about it, it makes sense, far cheaper than having two separate rooms. The showers were rain-like showers from above, and there were Q-tips, lotion, you name it to choose from. Large self-locking lockers to choose from. If you're weirded out by changing with someone from the opposite sex, this might not be your joint. There are multiple private bathrooms to change as well. I don't go to the UES that often, but I'd definitely go Y7 again, or at the very least check out their other locations. read more

I was excited to try Y7 it sounded nice. This studio is complete BS though. How can they even call themself yoga? Stripped from any principals or lineage, in this class yoga poses are woven together and instructed in a hot room. The decor is appealing to those seeking a trendy environment but I'm not sure what they have to offer besides that. I bought a 3 for $45 package as a new student but you only had one month to use it. You have to schedule a class and there's no changing it, which in my opinion is just a money grab. If your buying drop in classes you should be able to just jump in. Changing or canceling is a $10 fee. Not exactly the most welcoming way to bring in a new client. This is not yoga at all just a trendy BS money grab and I wouldn't recommend going besides maybe one time if you want to take an Instagram of the space, because that's all this business is worth. read more
