I'd been going to Pilates 66 until Covid happened. I loved going there and my teacher was wonderful. I had to find a new Pilates studio because Pilates has improved my health has improved. I searched three or four studios and I"m sorry I can't remember the names, (sorry) For one reason or another I didn't make the connection I needed with the Pilates teacher, which in my opinion is so very important. I ontoinued to browse Yelp and Google to find a place near me (York and 86th) and one day I saw one that I hadn't tried "Moving Strength". I was happy to see the fantastic equipment, but even more important, I found a teacher, Pavla at Moving Strength, who is so wonderful. She is highly trained, encouraging and kind. She understands my body. I"m getting strong! I feel lucky to have found this studio after the "extensive research" I've done! I never gave up. So, I went over to the East side this time and tried their TRX class. The studio is even smaller than the west side, but that just means more personal attention in my mind, so I am just stating facts, not complaining. The instructor was easygoing and very knowledgeable about form and exercise, and the class was hard! There were 4 of us, and I was not the only one huffing and puffing. The exercises were great, though repeating each set twice was kind of lazy (sorry I still enjoyed it!). I just feel if there was more variety and in more of an upbeat way, the class would have gone fast and felt fun, not just like working out. My arms were sore for 3 days, so I am not saying it didn't work, it just was a little boring- like you always knew you were working out. Other classes or workouts take you away from that through music, upbeat enthusiasm or unique exercises. We literally did one plank at the end, and one bridge laying on our backs with our feet in the straps. That said, this is straight upper body trx, beside for 2 sets of squat work in the beginning. It's the only class on classpass, called trx, where you walk in and know what you are going to get. I will be back, probably on the West side to try out a different routine. I am not against going again, I now know what to expect ;) read more

I took my first class here on Saturday. I would definitely say I am a very beginner level at pilates but I have been getting more and more interested in it and enjoy trying new studios in the city. I took this class via class pass and I really enjoyed it. It is a VERY small studio, only 5 pilates machines but I actually enjoyed that. It made the class intimate, not intimidating and allowed for a lot of personal interaction with the instructor and she was able to help and correct our forms. The instructor was great, fun yet challenging class. No locker room or showers or anything like that at this studio but they have cubbies and hooks for your personal items. I have attended several classes here through Class Pass in the last year (TRX/Pilates Tower, Jumpboard). For several months I was going every Saturday or Sunday and got great joy out of coming. I loved the instructors and the personalized attention you get at a small studio! Unfortunately, I had to seriously reduce/stop coming when they increased the amount of Class Pass points each class is worth. They went from 9 points to 11 and 22 points per class. When you only have 45 points to use for the entire month having a class take up 1/4th or half of those points means I am unable to visit the studio as often as I would like (or other studios). I very much miss coming and hope that they amend this policy. read more

I have been a client of Moving Strength for years but due to COVID, I was unable to take a class for 6 months. This morning, I took Sierra's class (Yorkville) and was blown away by her attentiveness as well as her thoughtful and detailed instruction. I literally walked out of there feeling taller and more aligned. I have missed Pilates Reformer so much. I just took my second Pilates reformer class with Raleigh Busser at Moving Strength and it was fantastic. I am a beginner Pilates student, but given the small size of the class, I was able to get plenty of personalized attention to make sure I was engaging the correct muscles and had the correct form when completing each exercise on the apparatus. Raleigh was amazing with every student from beginner to advanced. I can't wait to learn more from her as I continue on my Pilates journey! read more

This studio may be tiny, narrow, and a little out of the way... but Moving Strength East is winning as my favorite studio of Classpass (and trust me, I've been to plenty by now)! You are pretty much guaranteed the equivalent of a private / semi-private session, which is great for Pilates w. Equipment (my jam!) as the instructors will nag, nag, nag you to engage that core. And boy does it pay off! Sad that people are starting to discover this place, as I can't ever book a session via Classpass. Tempted to just buy a supplemental package so I can get my sessions in. read more

Can't say enough great things about Moving Strength! I have been coming a little over a year now, and I still love it. The class sizes are small and the instructors are informative. I think my only complaint is that the 'ballet burn' is pretty much the same thing as 'cardio pilates' - and since I don't feel i have enough strength to do 'cardio pilates' (you have to have a pretty great core to not use your hip flexors in that class).... and a lot of times these classes (ballet burn and cardio) are offered back to back, so i can't go to classes as often as I would like. Wish there were more equipment or TRX night classes (after 7). But the schedule changes from time to time, so you never know :) Regardless, still love the studio! read more

I have practiced Pilates diligently over the past 5-7 years at Sal Anthony (my favorite location for Reformer and Tower Pilates). I came across Moving Strength via Groupon and liked the instructors, both Rob and Patricia. My focus is TRX and I were pleasantly surprised that both instructors had good techniques. I have tried several other studios with TRX in both NY and NJ and many of the studios have rookie instructors who can easily injure you as they lack the basic common sense. Patricia, the owner, is excellent and so is Rob. I like the West Side location as you can find parking and it's easily accessible from the subway. I will definitely take more TRX classes here. read more

This place gets five stars because it's such a good deal for what you get. The group classes are really so small (just up to 3-5 people usually), that you get very personal attention. OMG I was so surprised to love working out in such a tiny place! The owner Patricia is insanely good. In fact, the place is full of great instructors. Don't let the tiny, hidden place fool you. With so few students and personalized attention, the environment makes you feel like a hollywood starlet working out in an underground studio. I went here last night using one of 2 passes in my NY Yoga Passbook. It's a little out of the way for me, but it's indeed a great studio. I took the Pilates equipment class and was a little nervous because those reformers have always reminded me of torture devices (I mean, just look at them!) and I had never used one before. It was just me and 2 other friendly students and Jose was friendly and very helpful. It was basically like a private session. I liked the class because it was hard but I never felt like I absolutely couldn't do anything. And I'm good and sore today! I'll definitely be back before the end of the year to use my second class pass. read more

Patricia, the owner, is accommodating, friendly, and an awesome instructor. Since using my Yelp deal for 2 classes, I have continued to purchase TRX classes. This is a wonderful, but very tiny (1 room!, no lockers no changing room or showers) Pilates reformer focused studio on the UES. I bought a Groupon deal for 5 classes because it was near to my former office. Every instructor there was friendly and enthusiastic, and the owner was very helpful. Many of the instructors were dancers. My favorite instructors were Jose Sepulveda (more challenging exercises), Iveta Polokova (good knowledge of body, and paid attention to form), and Monika Locke (like Iveta good at spotting and moderately challenging exercises). Of the students, there were clearly regulars, and the studio had a nice neighborhood vibe. I liked that you could pay as you go and purchase class cards online. The only downsides were that you had to sign up for classes by calling the studio or on the website, and if you cancelled less than 24 hours before the class you still were charged for the class on your class card. Not so convenient if you work late, or have a schedule that is not set in stone. The price is ok, it's on par with Manhattan prices for reformer classes (about $30 dollars), but I still think the quality of the classes and attention was much better than some of the other places you can take group reformer classes. I would love to go back, but it's too far from where I work/live. If you find yourself on the UES side though, I would definitely recommend it. read more

I've taken TRX with Jose. He's awesome. Very friendly and helpful and makes sure to correct your form when needed. The studio is small, which means smaller classes and more attention. At the most, there have been 4 of us in the TRX class at a time. The class is well paced and the moves can be adapted as needed. Highly recommended! read more
