Different take on a review, how do I review a yoga studio? Anyways, amazing isn't a good enough word to describe my first experience here. I've done some yoga in the past (like 4 classes tops) but I've never actually practiced in a studio. I have a very stressful job and I was recommended this by a friend who told me that it will definitely relax me. I told myself, "why not, I need self care" and I went ahead and bought all the gear, and signed up for the monthly membership KNOWING this was gonna be what I desperately needed. Went in today for the first time and Jasmine was tonight's instructor. She blew me away, super relaxing and chill person who just made it all that much better. She has a great personality for this type of stuff, couldn't have asked for more for my first time here. I'm really looking forward to attending more classes. The location is also perfect, the studio is a nice little place that's warm (literally) and inviting. Lol. Anyways, the reason why I was there in the first place was to relax, and boy did that happen. Even if you're not into yoga and just want an alternative way to workout your body or let the days stress blow away, check this place out.

I was nervous about looking clueless, breaking something, or holding the class back. Kim met me exactly where I was. She clocked that I was still pretty new to the reformer, and gave me more hands-on guidance while the more experienced people in the room kept moving. Same as TYR: the teachers read the room and meet everyone where they are. She challenged me without ever making me feel feel behind or inexperienced. The studio is clean, smells great, heated but not brutal, and the teachers clearly know what they're doing. It's a different kind of sore than yoga/mat pilates. A great supplement to a regular yoga or sculpt practice. If you've been curious about pilates but scared of the machines, start here.

The instructor and staff came across as unfriendly and unapproachable from the moment I walked in. At one point, I was told, "and that's why you don't wear shorts to Pilates," which felt unnecessary and embarrassing rather than helpful or professional. There also doesn't seem to be a proper front desk or welcoming environment for new clients, which made the experience even more uncomfortable. If you are truly beginner-friendly, instructors should create a supportive atmosphere instead of making people feel judged for not already knowing studio expectations. Unfortunately, I left feeling discouraged rather than encouraged. I've had much better experiences at LUMIX, where the environment feels welcoming, supportive, and genuinely inclusive for all levels.

If you've never done Pilates (I hadn't!) or never worked out they will get you the specific guidance you need and there are different class levels so you can progress. These types of studios start at the front desk (no way I want to work out somewhere when the first person I meet is rude, but I've never had that issue.) Each of the front desk staff has always been welcoming and helpful...they get to know you so they check you in before you even tell them your name. Heck you'll even see the manager checking people in! The instructors each create an inclusive environment where all body types and fitness levels are celebrated, making it easy for beginners and seasoned athletes and everyone in between to get a good workout in. You may not feel like you're working hard but you'll feel it the next day! I also like that they will correct your form so you don't go months with doing it the wrong way. Unfortunately, my experience today, September 12, 2026, was very different. At approximately 11:10 a.m., as I was leaving the gym, I noticed that the location had received a new scale. I approached the front desk, which was occupied by two staff members, Aaron, the supervisor, and a female employee. I asked the female employee if I could use the new scale. Rather than responding or attempting to assist me, she simply stared at me. Aaron then stepped in and informed me that the scale was not available for use. I then returned to the restroom to retrieve something I had forgotten in the locker. When I came back out, I approached the front desk again and asked Aaron about the intended functionality of the new scale. While I was speaking with Aaron, I noticed that the female employee was looking at me with what appeared to be a very unpleasant or disgusted facial expression. I asked her if there was a problem. She asked what I meant, and I explained that when I initially approached her about the scale, she did not attempt to assist me and instead looked at me in a manner that I perceived as unwelcoming. She responded, "That is my face." I told her that if that was the way she presented herself to customers, she should reconsider working there, since her position involves customer service. I then asked for her name, and she refused to provide it, stating that she did not have to give me her name. I subsequently asked Aaron whether company policy requires employees to wear a name badge and/or provide their name when requested by a customer. Aaron informed me that employees are not required to wear a name badge or provide their names upon request. This was a very unpleasant and unexpected experience, particularly because I have been a customer at this location for more than three years and have generally had positive experiences with the staff. I believe this employee could benefit from additional customer service and de-escalation training, particularly regarding how employees communicate with and respond to customers. I would also appreciate clarification from management regarding the policy: Are employees not required to wear a name badge and/or identify themselves by name when requested by a customer? Thank you for taking the time to review my concerns. I hope management will address this situation appropriately and ensure that all staff members maintain the level of professionalism and customer service expected at this location.

They're always nearby to make sure my form is correct, and they never lose patience when I ask them to remind me how to do certain moves. Speaking of supervision, I went to Lift today for the first time in about a week and a half, and I told Chenell that I've been experiencing some pain in my left shoulder. She sent Dirk outside to talk to me about it, and after I described my symptoms, he re-wrote part of my workout and continued to check in to make sure I wasn't in any pain. I felt super safe and respected, and there was ZERO pressure for me to push through any discomfort. Hiiiighly recommend this place!

It has been years since I've stepped foot in a gym, and I'm not young, so I had misgivings about how the training would go, but those misgivings have disappeared. I have always been active in one form or another, first as a (modest) school athlete, then in the military, and finally just interested in general fitness, but my time with Chenell, Dirk, and Emilie has yielded results (already?!) I've never felt or seen before. Going into this, I submitted information about my background and goals, and I feel it's clear that the team really listened and that I am on a tailored program directly addressing my goals. I am by no means an expert in weightlifting, and thus far have needed many reminders about which exercise is which, what the movements are, etc. but I always feel comfortable asking for those reminders. Dirk and/or Chenell, and/or Emilie are consistently close by for those reminders, or to help with adjustments to form, and pointing out if it might be time to increase resistance (weights) because of increased strength over time. I told myself I was "only" going to do two workouts per week when I started, and almost immediately (and eagerly) bumped it up to three workouts per weeks since I could feel and see positive results almost from the very beginning. I've since discovered that some close friends have also had great experiences at Lift Silverlake, and I've already found myself recommending it to friends based on my experience there.
