Earlier this year, my occasional low back pain began increasing and became very severe. I was referred to physical therapy, and I am so glad I chose Therapeutic Associates. Rachel, my therapist, provided exercises to correct the mechanics contributing to my back problem, and explained how they work. She listened carefully to any difficulties I encountered, and proposed alternative exercises when necessary. The exercises helped enormously, and I am so grateful that I have been able to resume many activities which I had difficulty performing before my PT sessions. I would give the staff of Therapeutic Associate, Ballard Physical Therapy a rating of 100 out of 5 if i could!! I have been working with Dr. Rachel and her aides for the past 3 years, for different injuries. The team has been Beyond Outstanding; Beyond Superb in making sure that I become healthy and well again!! Dr. Rachel would take the time to demonstrate the exercises, and then have me perform them, with a watchful eye looking for proper form; time to hold reps; and the number of reps per set! She would have me push myself to get better, but not enough so that I would injure myself! She welcomed any, and all questions on performing the exercises; even explaining the purpose of each exercise in reaching therapy goals! At the end of each session with Dr. Rachel, she would give me the homework exercises that I would perform over the week for improvement. I would diligently follow her prescribed program. and would then gain strength, mobility, and flexibility soon!! Dr. Rachel crafted a homework exercise program that made me reach my physical therapy goals in no time!! I cannot say enough great comments about Dr. Rachel and her caring approach to help the patient!! She cares for the health and well being of her patient, and it shows!! Other therapists that I had for a few days, Adrienne and Dre also made sure that I had tremendous improvement with my therapy goals! All of my therapists, including Dr. Rachel were so actively involved with my success, that they would sometimes work out with me, at the same time I performed the exercises!! Talk about investment in my success!! Physical Therapy Aides: Isobelle, Audrey, Francis, Elijah, Becky, Chloe. Patrick, and Mario would take over in the 2nd Half of my session. They showed me, and had me perform again, the exercises that Dr.Rachel had me do, and then also had me do additional exercises that Dr. Rachel had prescribed to help me improve even faster. The aides just like Dr. Rachel, watched me carefully for proper form; time for holding the reps; and counted the number of reps per set. The aides like Dr. Rachel pushed me hard to perform the exercises, but not enough to hurt myself. Aides also had me perform the homework exercises correctly, so as to ensure that I knew them well enough when doing them during the week!! I had 3 different injuries over the past 3 years. All of my injuries no longer exist!! I actually have much more strength, mobility, and flexibility than I had before my injuries!! I have reached levels of success in my therapeutic goals, that I did not believe were possible!! Should I need PT in the future, I will not hesitate to go back to Therapeutic Associates, Ballard Physical Therapy!! I would strongly recommend anyone who wants to reach their highest PT goals, to go to Therapeutic Associates, Ballard Physical Therapy!! I couldn't ask for a better physical therapy clinic! Physical therapy with Julie and her staff was my favorite part of recovery. In fact, I loved going to PT. They helped me through a torn ACL, MCL & PCL skiing injury. They seem to love their job and that makes it a place where I am always happy to go (can you imagine), and I always leave feeling better. An exceptional team of professionalism, knowledge, and understanding that I've ever met in the physical therapy world. Their quality of care is unparalleled. I've been to other physical therapy clinics, and this is by far the best. The whole team is very attentive and competent. They catered my recovery plan to my goals and ensured I understood the process. They even helped me incorporate lifestyle changes and develop workout routines to keep progressing upon completion of my time as a patient. Awesome team! Their passion for sports and the insights on creative exercises really help in the treatment of my Achilles. They rock it!!! I haven't seen my bills yet, but I must say that you always get what your money is worth. I went through the same treatment back in November at another PT facility and that didn't help me at all. They just couldn't relate much to my injury, and they were giving me blanket (one size fits all kinda thing) therapy. I did an online search for a Podiatrist who specializes in sports medicine and that's how I found Therapeutic Associates. My awesome new Podiatrist highly recommended this facility. On a side note, you know you have the right doctor when the first thing that comes to his mind is NOT surgery. They teach me sustainable exercises at Ballard PT too. This way I don't have to keep coming back for more PT sessions, and I learn how to manage my injury on my own. read more

I went into Therapeutic Associates today for my first visit after experiencing pain in the back of my knee. Everything about the experience was amazing! The booking process was speedy. They even called my insurance company several times to confirm coverage (I didn't have to do any of the work)! When I arrived in the office, they were friendly and quick. I saw Emily (PT) for my knee pain and she diagnosed it quickly as a strain in my calf from scar tissue. She went through the ASTEM process and showed me some exercises - all in my first visit! She was professional, friendly, down-to-earth, and in general exceeded my expectations. She was flexible with my timing and able to squeeze me in for another appointment this week before I travel. I am so glad this place was recommended to me by a friend - I understand why - they're great! Oh, and there's free parking! read more

I've been going here for about three weeks for an inflamed achilles tendon that prevented me from walking without pain. Emily immediately made it better by icing, hardcore and painful but very effective massage, and giving me instructions for exercises and icing at home. I've been to PTs in the past and have had electrical stimulation and it's done NOTHING (and the physical therapist seemed zoned out/lazy). Same with accupuncture - nothing. Emily is also really personable and I enjoy chatting with her during my sessions. My husband sees Julie and he's also very happy with his care. I also want to give a shoutout to Hallie, who was very helpful in sorting out my insurance problem - she really knows her stuff and talked me down after I sort of freaked out about my insurance denying my claim. I'm really happy that we found such a great place that's within walking distance of our home. read more

I've been involved in athletics most of my life. Blew out my ACL, ruptured my Achilles, had back surgery, knee replacement, and bursitis; all of which required physical therapy. I've been to a number of clinics over the years, but I have to say the treatment and support from the staff at TAI has been nothing short of exceptional. I've been working with Mike Moore for the last several months on back issues and bursitis and he's just the best. He spent a good deal of time assessing my symptoms before coming up with a plan of action. He's done a great job of explaining the exercises and what I should expect to see as I worked through them. He's spent time going over my anatomy to explain why I'm experiencing problems and how the exercises will help. The office staff at TAI are also great to work with. I am always greeted by name when I come in and the staff is helpful in booking appointments and handling any changes do to my schedule. If you're tired of PT staff who just go through the motions with a canned set of exercises, these are the folks for you. read more

Went here thanks to my PCP's referral and it was right next door. My experience there was not great but not terrible either. The most upsetting thing about Ballard PT is how abusive they are in billing. I concur with the other reviewer, Barbara L. I went there for exactly one visit, one hour long. The PT was 5 min late and then we finished the session in 55 min. It was the initial consultation so, understandably, a lot of it was just trying to understand my needs. But at the end of it, I literally walked out feeling no better, still not understanding much about my symptoms, and was just told to schedule many more appointments. Good thing I didn't get a good feeling about the place and decided to go elsewhere because I've just received the bill. Somehow, they've managed to charge "manual therapy techniques" ($53), "PT evaluation" ($140), and "therapeutic exercises" ($57) all in a span of an hour long session. Good thing my insurance paid for most of this but this is nonetheless utterly unacceptable. These people are borderline crooks. read more

The team here makes a funny old Ballard building a worthwhile place to visit! Everyone brings a bright attitude and fun to a clinic. The equipment is nicer than the average gym and always is more than enough to serve the scheduled patients. I've now been a patient with Jacque Scott for a month and already see marked progress. I get all sorts of extra tips by bringing up my activities, what I still experience pain doing and am always well educated with the purpose of the treatment exercise. My care is tailored to my current issue and long term desired strength. She encourages revisiting different challenging items and my assigned activities to keep me on the right track! I already feel vastly different in strength and pain improvement from a month. *Note that I bother to follow the Recommended Treatment Plan and do my exercises 5-6 of the 7 days a week that I am supposed to. Remember that it's your body, it's your job to put in the effort to heal it. The Physical Therapist puts a plan together and guides you through while verifying progress and attempting to prevent other issues. Don't be one of those people that torments them by not being an active participant in your own care. I have had no poor experience with billing, I have seen bills and they matched the amounts I expected based on the knowledge of my insurance coverage. They do make it easy to pay in the clinic at the front desk and can provide all the necessary paperwork for FSA and HRA accounts. Anyone who has issues with billing, that shouldn't reflect the actual care your provider is giving. Often your actual doctor doesn't have a lot of control, when, how and what rate that they charge matches your insurance plan's allowed maximums and negotiated rates, especially for a national provider. Take that up with the over arching Therapeutic Associates, not the Ballard Clinic. read more

Ballard PT is located in a quirky 60s building in Ballard. While It doesn't have all the fancy bells and whistles as some other physical therapy establishments that I have been to, I found the office staff pleasant and the physical therapist, Julie D. very knowledgeable, compassionate and thorough in her exam and determining a game plan. I was disappointed with everything at this establishment except the personable manner of my therapist. This included a gossipy front desk, minimal equipment and, seemingly a lack of skill. The therapist didn't figure out that my shoulder wasn't staying in it's socket, my massage therapist did. But since each appointment was only 15-20 minutes, most of it not hands on, it's not all that suprising. I quit after about 4 weeks with minimal progress made and went to the place around the corner where a session is less money and about 2hrs give or take. I have made extremly good progress with a kind and caring staff. Sorry folks, just 'cause you are a national chain doesn't make you good. read more

I have nothing but praise for my therapist. I had two total knee replacements at different times in 2010. We spent three months on each knee for a total of six months. If one exercise didn't work for me, they found another that I could do. I had ups and downs and we worked through them. You get out of it, what you put into it. I would have no problem recommending them to family and friends. read more

This is a great place to go, if you like being over billed. I looked into billing procedures and confirmed my suspicions that I was being overcharged. My sessions were never more than 30 minutes, but they billed me for more than that. My therapist, Roger Wegley, also left the room a few times during sessions to go check on other patients, I presume (always, cheerfully, saying, "I'll be right back!"). They are not allowed to bill you for the time that you're left alone, but he did. I get the sense that they try to book as many patients as possible -- they'll find a way to squeeze you in. I'll bet they are raking in the bucks... I went back and forth with the main billing office of Therapeutic Associates, trying to get them to adjust the charges. Finally, after a couple months of this (it had to go to some kind of review board), I was told they would not make any adjustments. This really feels like a racket to me -- I'm sure most people don't look at their bills that closely or question them, so they just bill whatever they want. I would not recommend this place at all. read more

I think that some of these other reviews must be out-dated. I have been a patient at Ballard Physical therapy for two months now, and I am very happy with the experience I have had there. The front desk staff are extremely friendly and helpful. and Julie is an amazing therapist. I highly recommend Ballard Physical Therapy. At different times over the past few years, I've been treated there for shoulder pain, a back injury and a broken ankle. They are honestly miracle workers!! Both Amanda and Emily worked with me when I herniated two disks. When I first started, Amanda promised me I would be back to my old self in 4-6 weeks. At the time, I couldn't even imagine it. Then 4 weeks later I was cleared and back in the gym. I am still shocked that I could go from couch bound to full activity so quickly.
