Terrible. Not responsive, sent in paperwork, never received credentials. When I asked a fair question regarding what was going on in the private Facebook group I was kicked out as we're many others. AKC is in the process of removing them from the recommended list due to the volume of complaints. Go elsewhere. Very unprofessional and takes advantage of people with animals that would like to make a difference in helping bring some joy to others. They quickly took my money no problem. The organization contacted me once stating I needed to send $10 more to process the paperwork. Never heard anything from them again. I made several attempts through email and phone messages with no response. We spent a lot of hours and money preparing/training our dog. Please beware to not associate with this false organization. They take your money and you don't get your credentials. They don't answer the phone or emails.

I sent them my paper work along with my check in December. I have called & e-mailed them more then once . They don"t pick up their phone or response to the e-mails . Someone is there because they cashed my check on 1/17/25 . I have a copy from a bank in Gladstone NJ with no signature only deposit only to TDI . This is really disappointing . I sign up with them on 2023 . I try to renew for 2025 and they do not pick up the phone at all . I send my check and my dog medical from the vet . they need to send me my dog Id so she can keep working at the hospital . they are horrible for no answering me . they love my dog she make people happy and now she can't work there because of TdI are not responsible . they did answer me at all . who does this ? so many people complain and they do not care . now I have to go with another company and started all over again . I have been trying to contact TDI since September. NO RESPONSE. Emails, voicemails etc. I sent my dogs updated vaccinations in October and still has not been updated. I never receive opportunities of taking my dog anywhere and I have tried renewing my dues and can't even get that done because it says to call them HOWEVER, I can't get a call back. TDI allows a bias evaluator in Mukwonago, Wisconsin to only pass dogs she knows or trains, even one that showed aggression during the testing session. This is wrong and completely inappropriate. When made aware that the bias and rude evaluator did not pass 1 (Hogan) out of 13 dogs, TDI ignored the communication. Multiple attempts have been made to communicate with TDI. No one has bothered to respond. TDI was provided a detailed documentation of the evaluator's mishandling of the therapy dog test. She went rogue and did her own thing, not following TDI's own guidelines. At the end of the test, the evaluator stated "well most of the dogs passed the test". She then walked directly towards one of Hogan's handlers and stated that he failed because he did not do the "leave it command" (but according to TDI's own guidelines he should have passed). Passed dogs were having worse issues as specifically documented and should have automatically failed during the test according to TDI's own guidelines. The bias evaluator did not address nor make eye contact with Hogan' second handler, thus we do not know why Hogan did not pass with the second handler. As she passed out the papers for the dogs that did pass, the English Creme aggressively barked/growled at the evaluator when being handed her "passing" papers. This should have been an automatic failure since aggression was shown. She still was awarded papers and can now go into nursing homes with this uncorrected behavior. Hogan has been going into business and stores since he was 3 months old. He has spent multiple hours "working" at Sherpers, Port Washington Main Street and Port Washington City Hall. He also is able to go into new places and perform the required tasks. He has been to Cabelas, Duluth Trading, Auto Parts stores, Harbor Freight, Farm & Fleet, Tractor Supply, Hair Salons, Coffee Shops, Charter Boats, Restaurants, Nursing Homes, Schools, Boy Scout Meetings, Pet Stores, and even fundraising events. Hogan has passed his CGC, CGCA, and CGCU all on the first try. The CGCU was conducted in Tractor Supply. He has also passed and taken other classes like Obedience, Rally, Agility and Scent Work. Reputable trainers with extensive experience have told Hogan's handlers he needs to be a therapy dog. As stated in the mission statement on the website "The future goal for TDI is to continue to bring joy and comfort to those in need, to improve all phases of operations, and to make more TDI dogs available by striving to improve and expand the relationship between TDI, institutions, and individuals in need of emotional service dogs." How can joy and comfort be spread to those who need it if another dog that showed aggression towards the evaluator passed? But Hogan did not pass even though he demonstrated the ability to be a great therapy dog. TDI is not a reputable nonprofit organization, as they claim to be. They are bias and look the other way when one of their own evaluators acts inappropriately. I am appalled there is now a therapy dog allowed to visit nursing homes and schools that showed aggression and passed the test, while Hogan, a dog who did nothing wrong did not pass. read more

Therapy dog international is very unprofessional to deal with. They refuse to respond to phone messages and of course they never answer the phone. I sent my application and payment in two months ago and revieved nothing from them. After several unanswered messages, I finally got a lying email stating that their computer system is down. How did they send me an email then? At that point they already had my application for 6 weeks. How long does it take to send out a bandana?! So now it's two weeks since I received that email. I still haven't received anything! How are they doing business if their computer system is down for two months ? ! read more

So far, not a good impression. I submitted forms to TDI over a month ago to enable therapy visits to my mother and they have neither confirmed the receipt of my paperwork, nor returned any of my calls to let me know if there has been any volunteer response to our request. My poor Mom keeps asking and asking when a dog will come to visit her..I wish I hadn't gotten her hopes up. TDI is one of the only orgs that will visit homebound nursing care patients and I had really hoped to cheer my mom up after the death of her kitty. read more

I have been with TDI for almost 10 years. Early this spring of 2021, I have tried to contact them numerous times by phone, have left requests for my calls to be returned and been met with utter silence from TDI. I have emailed several times and received no reply. I've been taking my dog to a respite home for abused women and children and to an assisted living facility. Great places where my visits with my dog have been looked forward to and been well received. I don't understand TDI's inability to communicate with me. But, I would strongly urge anyone looking to this organization: LOOK ELSEWHERE AND GO WITH ANOTHER ORGANIZATION. read more

Summary: TDI was unresponsive and dishonest; do not recommend. Details: I had asked TDI to help look for a dog to visit my grandmother, who adopted many dogs during her life but is now unable to leave the house much after a debilitating stroke. After some initial communication, TDI did not respond to any of my last phone calls or 7 emails to them over the last 1.5 years. I had to contact a local chapter director to finally receive a response from TDI. The chapter director informed me that TDI claimed it never received any communication from me since October 2016. TDI even forwarded an incomplete set of emails to support their claim. I thus provided the full set of emails for TDI to review. The chapter director attempted to help by inquiring with the TDI president; however, the president repeated the claim, saying "We have no record of the so called sent emails to TDI." She then dismissed me by saying "Enough said about this. This will be the end of this subject." The lack of response and repeated claims all the way to the top leadership at TDI is unprofessional behavior by this nonprofit. I recommend that if a loved one needs visits, if you're a dog owner looking to volunteer, if you're looking to donate money or time, if you're a healthcare professional helping patients, look elsewhere for an honest and responsive organization. read more

However, I called and pressed the appropriate option, spoke to a very nice lady who was very informative. There are -1 STARS! The day of testing, the instructor asked each of us why we decided to register our dogs in therapy. I specifically said "for hospital visits". My brother (who has now passed away this year) and sister-in-law both have battled cancer and I wanted to be able to bring my Golden Retreiver for visits to the cancer center at Methodist Hospital in Minneapolis. Did you know, that most Minnesota hospitals allow only Pet Partners?? NOT TDI. So, after spending the money and time involved, I still couldn't visit the cancer center for my family and other patients at the hospital because we weren't with the right group. The instructor had the PERFECT opportunity to tell me this information BEFORE we tested, and didn't. I have kept up the registration but will drop them this year-Pet Partners requires a lot more from their members but I believe this is a better fit for me and my therapy dog. read more

I have been with TDI for over 7 years. My dog has been an amazing therapy dog working in many capacities including schools and hospitals. We've always paid our fees to TDI and provided our medical records promptly, never once delayed in over 7 years. He is so special with children that he was particularly chosen to work in a particular school directly with children who have serious physical, medical and learning challenges. My dog and I have been an active team and loved by all where ever we went. Unfortunately he became ill. We had difficulty getting a diagnoses, which as it turned out is Cushing's disease. The process to a diagnoses was arduous, expensive and emotionally exhausting. It is a complicated disease. We stopped going on therapy visits during this period. Once we figured it out, I worked with both veterinarian specialists as well as holistic specialists and a year later we came out the other side strong again. Cushing's disease is a lifetime ailment. It will need to be managed for the rest of his life. Once we had him doing well, I went to the TDI website and learned I was shut out, my account was not accessible. I had lapsed for the first time in 7 years. I wrote a long letter to Ursula TDI president explaining our circumstances and never received any kind of reply, nothing. Perhaps she never received my email? I pursued with numerous phone calls, leaving messages and never once got a reply to my calls. After 2 months of persisting I finally spoke with someone who informed me I had to begin the process of being accepted anew. My dog had to be retested. They have zero human interest in a long time successful therapy dog and his owner going through an illness, not even enough to bother communicating, or returning emails or phone calls. I have zero problem retesting my dog, which I will do with a different group, such as Alliance of Therapy Dogs. I would NEVER, ever give my money or my time to such a disrespectful, unprofessional, unkind, discompassionate group. TDI takes your money and gives absolutely nothing in return. I have had zero benefit from this group and paid into it for many years. Any group that refuses basic communication, such as the returning of phone calls and emails is not worth investing in, especially when there are so many other good and caring groups to register your dog with. When your long time TDI dog becomes ill and they clearly do not care at all it surpasses lack of professionalism and exposes a heartless organization. read more
