I strongly do not recommend taking your kids here for care. My son is 5 years old, and I have been…read morebringing him here since he was born. His primary care doctor is Laura Abeyta at the Golf Course location. We have never had complaints regarding Dr. Abeyta, but after what recently happened to my son, it is not hard not to question the whole practice. On July 10th I took my son to the Holly location around 8:45pm; as he was having symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting. The provider he saw at the time was Rebecca Webb. I had given my son pain medication prior to the appointment so he seemed okay so only a physical exam was given but no further testing was done nor medication prescribed or recommended. The provider stated it could just be a stomach bug as something is going around, so we then proceeded to go home. My son and I were going to be traveling the next day so I was very persistent with letting them know we would be traveling, and I was scared my son would get worse on the way. The following morning my son woke up with a fever and had exploding diarrhea, I then called After Hour Pediatrics back to let them know my son's symptoms had worsened and I asked if they recommend, I take him in to be seen again? They stated he would be okay to just "let him go through it". I listened to them. I trusted them. As my son and I are traveling he is not doing good. We were traveling to Juarez and as soon as we made it in, I took him to a doctor, and they stated he was not well and needed to be taken to the hospital asap... We immediately crossed over to El Paso and took my son to the El Paso Children's Hospital Emergency room where he was immediately checked in and properly checked, come to find out that he had appendicitis (inflammation of the appendix, if ruptured you can die or cause complications). Unfortunately, my son's appendix did rupture which caused him to have more complications during his recovery. During recovery he absorbed an ileus (where your small intestine becomes paralyzed causing bowel obstruction). My son had to have 2 back-to-back surgeries; he was in ICU for 3 days... He was hospitalized for 10 days. Thankfully to God, powerful prayers from family and friends, and the amazing El Paso Children's Hospital Pediatric team my son is healthy and alive. I just wanted to share my story because my son could have died... I do not want any other parent or kid to go through what we went through... Had I not taken the extra step he would not be here. I put trust in After Hour Pediatrics and they let my son and I down. I am very disappointed with the way my son was not properly attended here. We will not be returning to any After Hour Pediatrics, although it may not have been all the providers fault but my son has had complications of constipation since he was a newborn, I never thought anything of it but now with finding out what my son had, could this have been prevented had Dr. Abeyta done more throughout testing during the constipation visits and maybe would have had the surgery done sooner? and the provider he saw that night, seemed like she wanted to go home as she did no testing, no labs, no ultrasounds and no medications were given, nothing was done besides an annual physical exam, if that, then the following morning another provider basically was trying to get me off the phone and did not properly advise me. It seems like the whole practice could learn something from this. Regardless I feel like this could have been prevented by After Hour Pediatrics had they properly diagnosed my son. Please never stop trusting your own gut and always stay fighting for your kid, be their advocate.

Upon arrival I filled out the appropriate forms, and was promptly seen by Physician Assistant Susan Blair-Buckley. She diagnosed my eye infection as well as a sinus infection. Because I was going to be in Santa Fe that afternoon, she recommended a CVS up there. A few hours later in Santa Fe I picked up my prescriptions and was immediately on my way to recovery. I appreciate the care I received. My vacation was saved!

No "we can get you in in 6 months" kind of place, and I almost always go online to set up an appointment, although they are a walk-in clinic, too. Never had a long wait and always got some kind of help, which is what you want in an emergency, or if you're in pain. NP Deana was fantastic, a huge smile behind her mask. Amber, at the front desk was, as well. I hope we never need to use places like this, but if we do, I don't miss the factory feel of some of the larger, busier ERs or Urgent Care places I've been to.

We waited 90 minutes to see a doctor and there was only one patient before us, with an additional 30 minute wait in the exam room. We were told we were seen as a priority because of our "young 'un" which was totally untrue. As we waited in the waiting room, one patient came in profusely bleeding from his mouth, held together with bloody t-shirts. The other clientele were "sketchy" to put it nicely. When we finally did see a doctor he was completely incompetent. The prescription for my one-year old's ear infection was for the wrong drug, wrong dosage strength, and wrong frequency. Luckily the pharmacist caught this or else would would have been giving my son something other than an antibiotic. I would not return if I were on my death bed and could not recommend this facility to my worst enemy.

However the rudeness of this Dr deserves negative stars. The reason for my visit was that I had been to 2 doctors over the last few weeks and still had ongoing problems. They had suddenly gotten worse. His response was, what do you want me to do that they haven't already tried? He prescribed a medication that turned out to be the exact same medication the first doctor had prescribed. It was another doctor in the ABQ health system. He had those records right in front of him. He was so sure he couldn't help me that he didn't review my records, nor try to help. Waste of time! If I had a grave medical issue this man surely would have put me one step closer to deaths door.

I am probably one of the most sympathetic people to the difficulties of the industry. After a broken femur in my hip I was transferred from Lovelace to Advanced. First note was started by Physical Therapists. And is a beautiful facility which is saying a lot because in my last job we opened 3 new facilities in different western states. So I have seen new facilities and have also seen SNF's aka skilled nursing facilities. There is a reason Ron Bell the "attorney" always talks about them The staff is really good specially the therapists, OT's and PT's. Kind knowledgeable and they listen. The nursing staff is mostly good and especially the day nurses. As with ANY hospital the doc may have one opinion, the nurses another, the therapists another and the PA's and NP's another. This is called healthcare and it is just getting worse with all the government issues. I pray they are not too adversely affected by the inevitable government cuts. Also you HAVE to advocate for yourself and your loved ones if it is them who are here. Believe it or not docs and clinical staff are human. And unless YOU (like me) are the patient you truly have no idea what the patient is feeling and going through. I have been very verbal about my concerns and there have been issues but the staff listened. Did they always agree, no. Were we able to come to mutually acceptable conclusions, pretty much every situation. If you sit back and bitch quietly it only affects your mental health. And note I have a mother in law who does this at the facility she is at in CA. If you don't like the current healthcare situation (don't even get me started on Optum) read, talk to your NM reps, read about what is going on with the government and best go into the industry. Albuquerque is woefully understaffed. At every facility. Compared to when I was in healthcare the demands and hours are much crazier. So unless you speak up don't complain. I am still at facility and am very happy to be here. Will update post discharge.

Also they didn't give her pain medications for 8 hours when she needed it. I worked here as an LPN 12 years ago. I wouldn't recommend. I was very disappointed when I worked there at their patient safety standards. And now I'm even more so. The facility looks very nice and home-y. But I remember the med carts always missing the medications some patients needed. And techs I worked with were not great at that time. Patients had a lot of neglect. They need more techs or nurses there. Too cheap to hire more? As an RN of 14 years with an advanced practice degree I am extremely extremely dissatisfied with the company's inability to prioritize patient safety.
