Another review I've already written and yelp disappeared it. So here we go again. Clean somewhat sparse decor lacks personality, almost to the point of feeling sterile. I hope they spruce the place up over time. Like many places post-COVID they have things on their website menu they no longer sell. My wife made a point of praising the hushpuppies, some BBQ joints are not worth eating but these were good. I was hoping for spare ribs, Kansa City style ribs or beef ribs but they don't do those anymore. The beans were good and worth eating, the brisket was moist and not too smoky. We generally liked everything. One thing for oaths with sensitive hearing, because there are few decorations and hard walls and floors the room is kind of loud and echoey. I hope they make some effort to soften the sound, hang some soft decorations or do something to make the sound more appealing instead of the sound of an empty warehouse. read more

This review is long overdue. Can't believe I haven't reviewed this restaurant yet. My experience with Thig's BBQ goes back to around 1999. I was stationed at Courthouse Bay and it was the first time I experienced Carolina whole hog bbq. Dan worked on base, but also provided the instructor staff with Carolina bbq and all the fixins'. I was hooked! After years of serving all over the place, I was happy to find out he opened his own place, Thig's BBQ House & catering. The family and I ate here a few times trying everything they had. Every time we come here, we know the food, service, and atmosphere is great. We enjoyed it so much, Thig's catered my retirement. All communication was through the daughter, who I believe handles the catering. I gave her the back story which she appreciated. She delivered the catering on time and set it all up. There was so much food! Brisket, pork, fried chicken, vegetables, and tea. Everyone raved about the food! I think we ordered too much, but it was worth it. We ate leftovers for as long as we could. I'm definitely impartial to Thig's for Carolina BBQ. I'll continue to enjoy this place as long as I can. Highly recommend giving Thig's a try! read more

The lumpia is good. Which they don't make there per one of the servers mouths! That's about it for what I think is good here! Everything else tastes pretty processed and not homemade or bbq at all. Spend about $80. Not even the full order was correct because we ordered a side of mash potatoes and instead we got fried squash. None of us enjoyed the food, and so I will not be ordering from this place again. Just felt like a complete waste. We ordered the brisket special, the country fried steak, and the kid's corn dogs. The Mac and cheese is ok. The stew that they have as a side is also alright. They also gave me the pulled pork instead of the brisket when I was charged for the brisket. I love love love Thigs, mostly for the customer service and the food. Our waitress recognized us because we stopped by twice within a week and her recommendations were amazing. Everything I tried here was yummy. My favorite is probably the bang bang shrimp but ask for it to be in the chicken fryer first. The food is hearty and great for the price. I've been going to Thig's since 1993 when I was a young Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune. I would make that drive to Thig's (which is not really close) for there hush puppies alone. The pulled pork is a whole other topic. I would drive from Florida for those sandwiches. And I seriously have. Every-time in the last 33(ish) years when I went to the Jacksonville area, Thig's was my first stop. I moved back to NC a few years back, and now live in New Bern and I will drive the hour plus drive whenever I get the hankering for great home cooking. God bless that place. Folks we got a new leader in the club house for best nc bbq. Called in a take out out order of the family meal, was told it would be 20 minutes because the chicken is cooked to order. Chicken was pretty standard but the bbq was outrageous. Exactly how it should be done. Chopped but not fine, sauced to perfection. It is very nice inside, but the seating is not comfortable. I had the brisket which was excellent. The hush puppies are probably the best I have ever had. The waitress was very attentive. I lived in North Carolina during the late nineties and developed a taste for their pork barbecue. I really enjoy the pulled pork, hush puppies, and the Apple vinegar sauce that goes along with the meat. Trying to find a place with graver views and this was the best I could do on my way back to Virginia. I started off with a side of hush puppies and chose the barbecue pork sandwich with a cole slaw topping, and banana pudding for dessert. Everything started off great when the waitress brought me out my own pitcher of ice tea and a basket of hush puppies. The pork sandwich had a decent portion of meat and a small spoonful of coleslaw on top. A spoonful? Yes a spoonful spread out like a thin layer of butter. The pork was average and nothing spectacular like I was expecting. I beleive the meats were smoked with apple wood that compliments pork - not today because I didn't taste any smoke even on the bark. I should've taken a picture but once I opened the takeout box, I started eating. The ribs were very meaty and the sauce was the thicker, spicy kind I like. The coleslaw and white Mac&cheese were tasty too. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that it took a while to get the order and I didn't like the hush puppies that were included. This place is so good! I always order the lumpia and the sauce that comes with it is this spicy and sweet chili sauce. The Buffalo chicken tenders are really good too as well as the chopped steak. The tea always tastes fresh and their hushpuppies are delicious. We typically order to go but we have eaten inside, and the restaurant is very clean. The customer service is really good too, the waitresses are very attentive and check in with you. My kids always get chicken with a side of baked beans and they never have any complaints, which is rare for them. They also sell a variety of pickled foods and stuff inside by the cash register which is pretty cool too read more

The customer service was really great , good people. Food wise it's bad , the brisket had no seasoning and very dry no smoke ring or any type of smoke to it. No bark at all .The ribs were the biggest issue . I literally had to tear them apart, there was no seasoning and not tender at all. They were very gray just like the brisket. I tried getting a refund and was promised a phone call back. Haven't heard a thing since. If you are a bbq person please look somewhere else . Thig's BBQ is located just down the road from the airport and would be a great stop for anyone visiting Jacksonville area on their way into town. The prices are reasonable and the portions are plentiful. They have daily specials as well as everyday staples and have quite a bit of homestyle cooked options to choose between. On a recent visit to Mike's Farm we opted to have dinner at Thig's as there are very few dining establishments in the area. Immediately upon being seated we were brought a basket of hushpuppies and the waitress sat pitchers of water and sweet tea on the edge of our table so we could refill ourselves as needed. Although this meant the waitress didn't need to visit our table as frequently to check in on us, she was still very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. One person in our group ordered fried chicken which we were told would take about 20 minutes. This news was much appreciated since it meant food was being prepared fresh and made to order. Between us we had fried chicken, fried shrimp, and country fried steak with a variety of sides including mac and cheese, green beans, bbq, and mashed potatoes. Everything that was brought to our table was delicious and the fried chicken had some of the crunchiest, thickest fried skin I have ever had. The only complaint I have about this restaurant is that their menus are sheets of paper in plastic protectors on a clipboard and in terrible need of replacement/updating. Although this DIY type menu is not really the issue, the problem was the condition of the menus being handed out to customers. The papers were crumpled, the plastic sleeves torn and tattered, and the clipboards showed visible grease and wear on them. I think a reprinting and laminating of their menus could make a big difference for their presentation. read more

The bbq was solid but the fries were cold and this was coming off of a food truck. Their building is almost complete after a fire took it out. Next time we head out to Mikes Farm we'll stop here again - once we can sit down to eat. I love a good refill on my $3 tea! read more

The food is excellent. Specially, their pulled pork. Their barbecue sauce is to die for. The biggest thing is their customer service. I'm sick and can't eat a lot. Things seem to not agree with me. They have a special of turkey and gravy that just hits just right they sell out of it all the time I called and was griping to one of the waitresses name Susan that it was the only thing I could eat that didn't make me sick. The next week I got a phone call saying there was a turkey and dressing dinner with my name on it! She actually saved my number and called me to tell me that I Had a meal waiting on me! Right when you walk in you seat yourself, a great southern down home vibe. We had the pleasure to be served by Ashley, great energy and very fast and efficient service! Right after we demolished the hush puppies we ordered a serving of chili cheese fries to start out. Between our two meals we tried the barbecue pork pulled, barbecue ribs, barbecue chicken, mac & cheese, green beans, baked apples, baked beans, and cucumbers with vinegar. I've been wanting to go here for the last couple of years, and finally made it in. The food is amazing! Hushpuppies were hands down the best I've had. The Easter Carolina BBQ pork plate was outstanding, and the portion hey serve was even better. I got the white cheddar Mac & cheese and slaw for sides. Im pretty picky when it comes to slaw and I thought it was fantastic. The cheddar Mac was good but not the best I've had at a BBQ place. My wife had the brisket sandwich and said it was great, which is saying a lot because she's usually not a fan of BBQ places. So if the food is so good, why only the 4 star rating? Two things... the service left a little to be desired. Our waitress was very friendly but wasn't the most attentive. I pride myself on giving benefit of doubt to others but it was a little hard this time. Second, were sauces or should I say lack of. The meat was delicious and I had no problem eating it without BBQ sauce, but having some would've been nice. I guess I'm just used to having a selection to choose from and try at most places. The vinegar sauce that was at the table was good but I was hoping for more choices. All in all I will definitely be going back for more!
